  • is it better to query database or grab from file? php & mysql

    I am keeping a large amount of words in a database that I want to match up articles to. I was thinking that it would just be better to keep these words in an array and grab that array whenever needed instead of querying the database every time (since the words won't be changing that much). Is there much performance difference in doing this? And if I were to do this, how to I write a script that writes the array to a a new php file. I tried writing the array like so: while( $row = mysql_fetch_assoc($query)) { $newArray[] = $row; } $fp = fopen('noWordsArr.php', 'w'); fwrite($fp, $newArray); fclose($fp); But all I get in the other file is "Array". So i figured I could write this and then write have a chron hit up the file every few days or so in case things have changed. But I guess if there is no performance advantage then it prob won't be necessary and I can just query the database every time I need to access the words.

  • As3 & PHP URLEncoding problem!

    Hi everyone, I'm stuck with a stupid problem of encoding. My problem is that all my accentuated characters are displayed as weird iso characters. Example : é is displayed %E9 I send a string to my php file : XMLLoader.load(new URLRequest(online+"/query.php?Query=" + q)); XMLLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,XMLLoaded); When I trace q, I get : "INSERT INTO hello_world (message) values('éàaà');" The GOOD query My php file look like this : <?php include("conection.php");//Conectiong to database $Q = $_GET['Query']; $query = $Q; $resultID = mysql_query($query) or die("Could not execute or probably SQL statement malformed (error): ". mysql_error()); $xml_output = "<?xml version=\"1.0\"?>\n"; // XML header $xml_output .= "<answers>\n"; $xml_output .= "<lastID id=".'"'.mysql_insert_id().'"'." />\n"; $xml_output .= "<query string=".'"'.$query.'"'." />\n"; $xml_output .= "</answers>"; echo $xml_output;//Output the XML ?> When I get back my XML into flash the $query looks like this : "INSERT INTO hello_world (message) values('%E9%E0a%E0');" And these values are then displayed into my DB which is annoying.     In the footer of my page, I would like to add something like "last updated the xx/xx/200x"; with this date being the last time a certain mySQL table has been updated. What is the best way to do that ? Is there a function to retrieve the date ? Should I make an access to the database everytime my footer is displayed ?

  • mysqldump is not dumping my data

    I am running mysqldump on Ubuntu Linux (10.0.4 LTS) my mySQL version info is: mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.41, for debian-linux-gnu (i486) using readline 6.1 I used the following command: mysql -u username -p dbname dbname_backup.sql However when I opened the generated .sql file, I saw that most of the tables had only the schema dumped and in the few cases where the actual data was dumped, only 1 or two records were dumped (there are ATLEAST several tens of records in each table). Does anyone know what maybe going on?

  • Cannot use a Like query in a JSP prepared statement?

    OK, first the query code and query: ps = conn.prepareStatement("select instance_id, ? from eam_measurement where resource_id in (select RESOURCE_ID from eam_res_grp_res_map where resource_group_id = ?) and DSN like '?' order by 2"); ps.setString(1,"SUBSTR(DSN,27,16)"); ps.setInt(2,defaultWasGroup); ps.setString(3,"%Module=jvmRuntimeModule:freeMemory%"); rs = ps.executeQuery(); while (rs.next()) { bla blah blah blah ... Returns an empty resultSet. Through basic debugging I have found its the 3rd bind that is the problem i.e. DSN like '?' I have tried all kinds of variations, the most sensible of which seemed to be using: DSN like concat('%',?,'%') bit that doesn' work as I am missing the ' ' either side of the concatenated string so I try DSN like ' concat('%',Module=P_STAG_JDBC01:poolSize,'%') ' order by 2 but I just can't seem to find a way to get them in that works. What am I missing? :) Thanks!

  • Is there a way to listen for changes in an MySQL database table using Java and JDBC?

    I have a number of users which are logged in at a time in my desktop application. They are working on the same table (create, read, update, delete data) so I have to update their views, to reflect changes, every few seconds - currently I am thinking to use a different thread to do that. I am using the MySQL database engine. Is there a way, using JDBC, to listen for changes on a specific table in the database and triggering a Java method only when changes are made?
