• How to Enable Ports 25 - 28 on a Cisco Catalyst 3750

  I am trying to enable ports 25 - 28 on my 28 port Catalyst 3750. These four ports are my fiber ports. I am using the following command to bring up that interface. interface range Gi1/0/25 - 28 That works and it dumps me in the config-if-interface prompt. This is where I get stuck. I just want to enable these four ports and have them be in VLAN1 and On just like ports 1 - 24. How do I do this?

• nginx not acknowledging passenger_root option

  I'm running a sinatra app on passenger, and trying to hook it to nginx. The relevant part of my config looks like: http { passenger_root /path/to/gem; #this is a valid path passenger_ruby /path/to/ruby; #ditto #etc... server { listen 80; server_name hello.org; root /path/to/stuff/public; passenger_enabled on; } } Whenever I start nginx however, I get: Starting nginx: [alert]: Phusion Passenger is disabled becasue the 'passenger_root' option is not set. Please set this option if you want to enable Phusion Passenger. What am I missing here? Thanks!

• How to configure JAAS on JBoss?

  Hey Im having a problem with "Failed to load users/passwords/role files: java.io.IOException: No properties file: users.properties or defaults: defaultUsers.properties found" error from jboss. No matter what I change in conf/login-config.xml always that same error. Turning on TRACE for org.jboss.security shows that it does Security domain: myapp followed by findResource: null and the above error. Ive tryed adding a users.properties to my .war WEB-INF/classes/users.properties to no avail. Why is jBoss doing like this? What is this JAAS and why does it need it? What does it require, where to put what files, if its possible Ill remove all of this org.jboss.security.auth.spi.UsersRolesLoginModule completly, just let me use my app. Thanks

• vim: how do I keep 10 lines visible when scrolling up to EOF with CRTL-F ???

  Hello! I am used to use vi, not vim. What I find annoying in vim is that when you are scrolling with CTRL-F and reach EOF, vim scrolls down to the very last line and put this line on the top of your screen, and you can't see the lines above. You must scroll up a little bit so you can see the context. All this happens with CTRL-F only, not with j or the down cursor key. In vi, you scroll down (with CTRL-F), but when you reach EOF it still show you, say, 15 lines and then the tippical ~. I am using Putty for remote access. How can I config vim to behave like vi in this case? Hope you understand the question. Thank you! Gaston.

• Exim4 Disable local delivery?

  Hey all, I'm running exim4 as my MTA and it works great to send emails to outside emails other than my hostname. When I send an email to my gmail via command line (sendmail [email protected], etc...) it works fine. When I send an email to my website's domain, which is also the hostname for the server, i'm assuming it just does local delivery... which won't work because my email is received by another server (Google Apps). So how do I disable local delivery in Exim4? dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config did not give any real results.

  One time I searched for Orange Juice in Chrome's Omnibar. Now, every time I start typing Orange, I get the search suggestion: How do I get Chrome to stop offering me this search suggestion? If I need to edit some config file, I can do that. Please don't post answers if you haven't ensured they work first. (This is intended to prevent people from answering "Press Shift-Delete.") Clarification: I'd prefer a solution in which I can selectively delete entries, not just by time segment. I also prefer a solution that does not involve cancelling any Chrome functionality.

• Juniper J4350 out of order

  I have got two (2) Juniper routers J4350 that are out of order : All the interfaces are down (leds on the interfaces don't ligthen, ping dosen't respond) No output on the console port (even when booting) I've tried to reset the router (holding the RESET CONFIG button on the front panel during 15 seconds) and nothing happened, even while booting the device I've opened the router to check the fans. I've removed some dust and nothing has changed. I wanted to precise that the leds on the front panel are all on: The POWER led is green The STATUS led is red The ALARM led is on and is orange The HA (High Availablity) is on and orange as well I have found nothing on the Internet to solve this problem... • Nginx no static files after update

  First, i must say that i am not expert in server administration, my site was setup by hosting admins (that i cannot contact anymore). Few days ago, i updated Nginx to latest version (admin told me that it is safe to do). But after that, my site serves only html content, no CSS, images, JS. If i try to open some image i get message "Wellcome to Nginx" (same thin if i try to open static.mysitedomain.com). More details: Site has static. subdomain, but static files are in same directory as they used to be before setting up static files. I was googling for some solutions, i tried to change something in /etc/nginx/, but no luck. I feel that this is some minor configuration problem, any ideas? • SQL Server Management Studio - Error connecting to remote DB

  All right, here is the deal: I'm connecting to a Windows 2003 Server using VPN. On this server, there is a remote SQL Server 2005 Express engine. I can connect to the database using Visual Studio 2008. What I can't do though, is connect to this same database with SQL Server 2005 Management Studio (Standard). I have checked the connection info a hundred times and still nothing. One thought: do VS ans SSMS use the same sql provider? Note: I'm running Windows 7 RC. I had absolutely no problem using the same config under Vista. This is the error I get when trying to connect with SSMS:

  I have WebLogic 11g installed on my machine under /srv/wls, and I start Node manager on it with /srv/wls/wlserver_10.3/server/bin/startNodeManager.sh. I create my domain with config.sh, and then I want to start the Admin Server of that domain with Node Manager. So I open a WLST session and do the following: > nmConnect(...) > nmStart('AdminServer') But when I then visit localhost:7001/console, and login, the screen on the browser remains blank and the server logs tell me the server has run out of PermGen space. I don't encounter this problem when starting the Admin Server through the shell script under $DOMAIN/startWebLogic.sh. Then it works fine. Any idea what I am doing wrong? I couldn't find anything in Google nor on the Oracle forums...

I'm pretty new to FreeBSD and I am used to controlling my server using Direct Admin. What shall I do next ?

  I am VERY new to installing any type of server program and to running any opensource type software in general. I am running Windows Server 2008R2. I want to install Collective Access to run locally only on my Intranet at home. So my host is localhost I sucessfully installed PHP and MYSQL. I installed CA in this directory C:/inetpub/wwwroot/collectiveaccess. 1st. I do not want to send mail through collective access. Will it install without all the email information? Can I comment those requirements out in the global config and setup.php file? 2nd I am getting the error. • Nginx Ip Whitelist

  Is it possible to create a ip whitelist for my nginx proxy server without adding allow or deny in the config file is it possible i can get nginx to link to a separate database to check if the user is allowed to access the website . Ideally i could do with nginx linking to an external database or at minimum a list off allowed ips on the same server so i can easily update the list whit out restarting nginx every time. In the future i would like to link nginx to my website and a user will login and there ip will be linked to there account and they will be able to update there ip if it has changed to there new one to grant them access so i need to keep in mind that it would be easyer to do this if i have external list off ips in some kind off database any help is apreshiated

  I manage a bunch of VPSs with memory ranging from 1GB to 8GB. Most of these websites are Joomla websites, and the servers must support multiple sites/users/S-FTP. I use mpm-itk almost exclusively (mostly due to it's convenience in these shared environments). However, I'm aware it isn't known for performance, so I need some advice on making it faster. Due to the lack of documentation when I first went the way of mpm-itk, I included only one setting in the config, and that was to limit each user to 50 clients (the rest I left up to defaults): <IfModule mpm_itk_module> MaxClientsVHost 50 </IfModule> Are there any better alternatives available? Are there any settings supported in mpm-prefork or mpm-worker that are also supported in mpm-itk? Thanks!

• Adding a second IP address for IIS - static vs dynamic A records

  I'm looking to add a second IP address to IIS so that I can run two sites with different SSL certificates. When I added one on my play box and ran ipconfig /registerdns both addresses were registered in DNS with the server's name. So, I deleted the A record for the new IP address and rebooted. That also registered both names. So, then I went into the network config for the adapter and, on the DNS tab, unchecked "Register this connection's addresses in DNS". I deleted the A record for the new IP address again and re-ran ipconfig /registerdns. This time, it deleted the A record for the old IP address and didn't created one for the new address. Neither of these is what I want: I want the main IP address to be registered and refreshed automatically as a dynamic DNS record and the second IP address to be registered and managed as a static address. Is there any way to achieve this?

  At the moment I'm using filezilla to deploy new versions of a site to the live server. the trouble is that there are one or two config, bootstrap etc. files which are different for the live site and I have to be careful not to overwrite. Also there are big areas of code that never change (eg I use the zend framework, which is always the same). I'd like to be able to record a macro to upload the same bunch of files and folders every time, excluding subdirectories and files which shouldn't be overwritten. Does any ftp client offer this?

  We have a server with 8Cores, 16GB of RAM and RAID 0 SAS 10K drives. Our goal is to use this to serve a fairly simple php application quickly. We have tested all other components and we think we have narrowed it down to apache is our bottleneck. I am no apache guru I have done some research and tested a couple things but when i test with JMeter launching 100 concurrent connections against the server the first 10 - 20 come back quickly 30 - 100ms but the rest take between 1000ms to 3000ms. Anyone have any ideas on what to change in our apache config to make this faster right now its a vanilla install of apache.

• My server appears to have been hacked+ scanssh run by zabbix is it normal?

  I'm running a few EC2/Scalr instances with zabbix monitoring. I received complaints about one of my servers port scanning other servers. the logs show it is accessing port 22 on consecutive IP addresses. I looked at the processes list and saw scanssh is running under the user Zabbix. My question is- Is scanssh part of zabbix? Is it suppesd to run? I have active autodiscovery on zabbix but it is looking at another IP addresses and definately not port 20. Is it possible that something in the config of zabbix agent is controlling it and not the settings on zabbix server? What can I do to find out if zabbix is somehow misbehaving or it is a hacker? Any advice is highly appreciated.

  Hi, Is it possible to run an email server on my home box using dynamic dns? The scenario is, I want to auto cc all incoming and outgoing emails from my one account to another, from some server side config instead of configuring email clients for rules. I have tried Google Apps Mail but it doesn't allow auto cc of outgoing emails. After having read tons of blogs, forum messages etc (hope I have been reading the correct info :) ) the only option to achieve what I am needing is to setup my own mail server, but the cost of getting a static IP doesn't fit my budget. Please can someone point me in the correct direction. Platform doesn't matter, I can setup a Windows or Linux server. Many Thanks

• Any way to know what files were in a broken ZFS pool?

  I have a large ZFS pool of 4 combined drives. Now, the filesystem can not be mounted: pool: tank state: UNAVAIL status: One or more devices could not be opened. I'm not overly concerned by the loss of the data, but I'd love to know exactly which files were in that pool. Is there any way to get a listing of what files were there?

  I have installed Windows Server 2008 R2 on a virtual machine with a bridged network card and installed Active Directory. I configured it and when I try to connect my laptop to the domain name, in this case, creationsmicroweb.ca (doesn't exist, don't try, for local only), I can't get connected. My laptop just doesn't see it. I don't know why! There's a resume of my config: Domain Name: creationsmicroweb.ca Forest: new, principal domain controller IP: Fixed (192.168.1.100) DNS Name: none (just for local, I ignored them) NETBIOS name: MICROWEB If someone as found why, please help me!   I am getting a lot of the following types of error in my secure log on a CentOS 5.4 server: crond[10445]: pam_loginuid(crond:session): set_loginuid failed opening loginuid sshd[10473]: pam_loginuid(sshd:session): set_loginuid failed opening loginuid I've seen discussion of this being caused when using a non-standard kernel without the correct CONFIG_AUDIT and CONFIG_AUDITSYSCALL options set. Where this is the case, it is advised to comment out some lines in the pam.d config files. I am running a Virtual Private Server where I need to use the kernel provided by the supplier. Is there a way to find out what options they used to configure the kernel? I want to verify if the above is the cause. If this turns out not to be the cause, what are the risk of disabling pam_loginuid for crond and sshd?
