SharePoint 2007 Parser Error after updating master page

A few weeks ago I was updating the master page for a SharePoint 2007 (WSS) site. The client wanted the site updated to reflect the new look and feel that is being applied to another set of sites in the organization. I created a new theme and master page, which I already wrote about here and here. It worked well, except for a few pages on a subsite. On those pages, I got the following error: Server Error in '/' Application. Parser Error Description: An error occurred during the parsing of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific parse error details and modify your source file appropriately. Parser Error Message: Code blocks are not allowed in this file. I decided to go comb through my new master page and compare it to the existing master page that was already working. After going through them line by line several times, I had no clue what would be causing the error because they were basically the same! It turns out, it was a combination of two things. First, on a few of the pages in the site, there was some include code (basically an <% EVAL()%> snippet). This was the code that was triggering my error “Code blocks are not allowed in this file”. However, this code was working fine with the previous master page. I decided to then try doing a full deployment of the site with the new master page, and it worked fine! Apparently, if the master page is deployed using a Feature, then it is granted permission to allow code blocks, but if you upload pages either using web UI or SharePoint Designer, then the pages won’t be able to use code blocks. I haven’t been able to pin down the rules or official info about this, but I thought others might find it useful anyway.

There will also be a roundtable discussion on which development tool is right for you, and a roundtable on the strategic importance of ADF. Of course, the conference is not all about ADF; Tom Kyte will be there, Cliff Godwin (SVP who looks after Oracle Applications) and a host of others. MySql Connector/NET 6.7.4 GA has been released

MySQL Connector/Net 6.7.4, a new version of the all-managed .NET driver for MySQL has been released. This is the GA, is feature complete. It is recommended for production environments. It is appropriate for use with MySQL server versions 5.0-5.7. It is now available in source and binary form from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/net/#downloads and mirror sites (note that not all mirror sites may be up to date at this point-if you can't find this version on some mirror, please try again later or choose another download site.) Windows Azure ASP.NET MVC 2 Role with Silverlight

I was working through some scenarios recently with Azure and Silverlight. I immediately decided a quick walk through for setting up a Silverlight Application running in an ASP.NET MVC 2 Application would be a cool project. This walk through I have Visual Studio 2010, Silverlight 4, and the Azure SDK all installed. If you need to download any of those go get em? now. Launch Visual Studio 2010 and start a new project. Click on the section for cloud templates as shown below. After you name the project, the dialog for what type of Windows Azure Cloud Service Role will display. I selected ASP.NET MVC 2 Web Role, which adds the MvcWebRole1 Project to the Cloud Service Solution. Since I selected the ASP.NET MVC 2 Project type, it immediately prompts for a unit test project. Because I just want to get everything running first, I will probably be unit testing the Silverlight and just using the MVC Project as a host for the Silverlight for now, and because I would prefer to just add the unit test project later, I am going to select no here. Once you've created the ASP.NET MVC 2 project to host the Silverlight, then create another new project. Select the Silverlight section under the Installed Templates in the Add New Project dialog. Then select Silverlight Application. The next dialog that comes up will inquire about using the existing ASP.NET MVC Application I just created, which I do want it to use that so I leave it checked. The options section however I do not want to check RIA Web Services, do not want a test page added to the project, and I want Silverlight debugging enabled so I leave that checked. Once those options are appropriately set, just click on OK and the Silverlight Project will be added to the overall solution. The next steps now are to get the Silverlight object appropriately embedded in the web page. First open up the Site.Master file in the ASP.NET MVC 2 Project located under the Veiws/Shared/ location. After you open the file review the content of the <header></header> section. In that section add another <contentplaceholder></contentplaceholder> tag as shown in the code snippet below. <head runat="server"> <title> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="TitleContent" runat="server" /> </title> <link href="../../Content/Site.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="HeaderContent" runat="server" /> </head> I usually put it toward the bottom of the header section. It just seems the <title></title> should be on the top of the section and I like to keep it that way. Now open up the Index.aspx page under the ASP.NET MVC 2 Project located in the Views/Home/ directory. When you open up that file add a <asp:Content><asp:Content> tag as shown in the next snippet. <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="TitleContent" runat="server"> Home Page </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID=headerContent ContentPlaceHolderID=HeaderContent runat=server> </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <h2><%= Html.Encode(ViewData["Message"]) %></h2> <p> To learn more about ASP.NET MVC visit <a href="http://asp.net/mvc" title="ASP.NET MVC Website">http://asp.net/mvc</a>. </p> </asp:Content> In that center tag, I am now going to add what is needed to appropriately embed the Silverlight object into the page. The first thing I needed is a reference to the Silverlight.js file. <script type="text/javascript" src="Silverlight.js"></script> After that comes a bit of nitty gritty Javascript. I create another tag (and for those in the know, this is exactly like the generated code that is dumped into the *.html page generated with any Silverlight Project if you select to "add a test page that references the application". After getting the appropriate Javascript into place I put the actual Silverlight Object Embed code into the HTML itself. Just so I know the positioning and for final verification when running the application I insert the embed code just below the Index.aspx page message. Just to make it visibly obvious that the Silverlight Application is running in the page, I added a button as shown below. <UserControl x:Class="CloudySilverlight.MainPage" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignHeight="300" d:DesignWidth="400"> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White"> <Button Content="Button" Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="48,40,0,0" Name="button1" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="75" Click="button1_Click" /> </Grid> </UserControl> Just for kicks, I added a message box that would popup, just to show executing functionality also. private void button1_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show("It runs in the cloud!"); } I then executed the ASP.NET MVC 2 and could see the Silverlight Application in page. With a quick click of the button, I got a message box. Success! Now the next step is getting the ASP.NET MVC 2 Project and Silverlight published to the cloud. As of Visual Studio 2010, Silverlight 4, and the latest Azure SDK, this is actually a ridiculously easy process. Navigate to the Azure Cloud Services web site. Once that is open go back in Visual Studio and right click on the cloud project and select publish. This will publish two files into a directory. Copy that directory so you can easily paste it into the Azure Cloud Services web site. You'll have to click on the application role in the cloud (I will have another blog entry soon about where, how, and best practices in the cloud). In the text boxes shown, select the application package file and the configuration file and place them in the appropriate text boxes. This is the part were it comes in handy to have copied the directory path of the file location. That way when you click on browser you can just paste that in, then hit enter. The two files will be listed and you can select the appropriate file. Once that is done, name the service deployment. Then click on publish. After a minute or so you will see the following screen. Now click on run. Once the MvcWebRole1 goes green (the little light symbol to the left of the status) click on the Web Site URL. Be patient during this process too, it could take a minute or two. The Silverlight application should again come up just like you ran it on your local machine. Once staging is up and running, click on the circular icon with two arrows to move staging to production. Once you are done make sure the green light is again go for the production deploy, then click on the Web Site URL to verify the site is working. At this point I had a successful development, staging, and production deployment. Thanks for reading, hope this was helpful. How to fix OpenGL Co-ordinate System in SFML?

My OpenGL setup is somehow configured to work like so: (-1, 1) (0, 1) (1, 1) (-1, 0) (0, 0) (1, 0) (-1, -1) (0, -1) (1, -1) How do I configure it so that it works like so: (0, 0) (SW/2, 0) (SW, 0) (0, SH/2) (SW/2, SH/2) (SW, SH/2) (0, SH) (SW/2, SH) (SW/2, SH) SW as Screen Width. SH as Screen Height. This solution would have to fix the problem of I can't translate significantly(1) on the Z axis. Depth doesn't seem to be working either. maintaining a growing, diverse codebase with continuous integration

I am in need of some help with philosophy and design of a continuous integration setup. Our current CI setup uses buildbot. When I started out designing it, I inherited (well, not strictly, as I was involved in its design a year earlier) a bespoke CI builder that was tailored to run the entire build at once, overnight. After a while, we decided that this was insufficient, and started exploring different CI frameworks, eventually choosing buildbot. One of my goals in transitioning to buildbot (besides getting to enjoy all the whiz-bang extras) was to overcome some of the inadequacies of our bespoke nightly builder. Humor me for a moment, and let me explain what I have inherited. The codebase for my company is almost 150 unique c++ Windows applications, each of which has dependencies on one or more of a dozen internal libraries (and many on 3rd party libraries as well). Some of these libraries are interdependent, and have depending applications that (while they have nothing to do with each other) have to be built with the same build of that library. Half of these applications and libraries are considered "legacy" and unportable, and must be built with several distinct configurations of the IBM compiler (for which I have written unique subclasses of Compile), and the other half are built with visual studio. The code for each compiler is stored in two separate Visual SourceSafe repositories (which I am simply handling using a bunch of ShellCommands, as there is no support for VSS). Our original nightly builder simply took down the source for everything, and built stuff in a certain order. There was no way to build only a single application, or pick a revision, or to group things. It would launched virtual machines to build a number of the applications. It wasn't very robust, it wasn't distributable. It wasn't terribly extensible. I wanted to be able to overcame all of these limitations in buildbot. The way I did this originally was to create entries for each of the applications we wanted to build (all 150ish of them), then create triggered schedulers that could build various applications as groups, and then subsume those groups under an overall nightly build scheduler. These could run on dedicated slaves (no more virtual machine chicanery), and if I wanted I could simply add new slaves. Now, if we want to do a full build out of schedule, it's one click, but we can also build just one application should we so desire. There are four weaknesses of this approach, however. One is our source tree's complex web of dependencies. In order to simplify config maintenace, all builders are generated from a large dictionary. The dependencies are retrieved and built in a not-terribly robust fashion (namely, keying off of certain things in my build-target dictionary). The second is that each build has between 15 and 21 build steps, which is hard to browse and look at in the web interface, and since there are around 150 columns, takes forever to load (think from 30 seconds to multiple minutes). Thirdly, we no longer have autodiscovery of build targets (although, as much as one of my coworkers harps on me about this, I don't see what it got us in the first place). Finally, aformentioned coworker likes to constantly bring up the fact that we can no longer perform a full build on our local machine (though I never saw what that got us, either, considering that it took three times as long as the distributed build; I think he is just paranoically phobic of ever breaking the build). Now, moving to new development, we are starting to use g++ and subversion (not porting the old repository, mind you - just for the new stuff). Also, we are starting to do more unit testing ("more" might give the wrong picture... it's more like any), and integration testing (using python). I'm having a hard time figuring out how to fit these into my existing configuration. So, where have I gone wrong philosophically here? How can I best proceed forward (with buildbot - it's the only piece of the puzzle I have license to work on) so that my configuration is actually maintainable? How do I address some of my design's weaknesses? What really works in terms of CI strategies for large, (possibly over-)complex codebases?

Here is a handy list of translation and localization-related resources for user experience professionals. Following these will help you design an easily translatable user experience. Most of the references here are for web pages or software. Fundamentally, remember your designs will be consumed globally, and never divorce the design process from the development or deployment effort that goes into bringing your designs to life in code. Ask yourself today: Do you know how the text you are using in your designs are delivered to the customer, even in English? Key areas that UX designers always seen to fall foul of, in my space anyway, are: Terminology that is impossible to translate (jargon, multiple modifiers, gerunds) or is used inconsistently Poorly written, verbose text (really, just write well in English, no special considerations) String construction (concatenation of parts assembled dynamically) Composite widget positioning (my favourite) Hard-coded fonts, small font sizes, or character formatting or casing that doesn't work globally Format that is not separate from content Restricted real estate not allowing for text expansion in translation Forcing formatting with breaks, and hard-coding alphabetical sorting Graphics that do not work in Bi-Di languages (because they indicate directionality and can't flip) or contain embedded text. This guide will get you up and running in about 15 minutes. I have reviewed my referral link to my simple Setting up ODP.net with Win7 x64 and noticed most people were searching for one of the following terms: “how to use odp.net with vs” “setup connection odp.net” “query db using odp and vs” While my article provided links and a sample tnsnames.ora file, it really didn’t tell you how to use it. I’m hoping that this brief tutorial will help. So before we get started, you will need the following: Download the following: www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/dotnet/utilsoft.html from oracle and install it. It is the first one on the page. Visual Studio 2008 or 2010. It should be noted that The System.Data.OracleClient namespace is the OLD .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle. It should not be used anymore as it has been depreciated. The latest version which is what we are using is Oracle.DataAccess.Client. First things first, Add a reference to the Oracle.DataAccess.Client after you install ODP.NET Copy and paste the following C# code into your project and replace the relevant info including the query string and you should be able to return data. I have commented several lines of code to assist in understanding what it is doing. Can't get bonding and bridging to work for KVM

Hi everyone. I can't for the life of me get bonding and bridging to work for the KVM setup I'm building. I'm using a fresh install (not an upgrade) of Ubuntu Server 10.10. I have 4 NICs on the same subnet (two intended for each of my two VMs). I'm trying to achieve the setup that Uthark describes here. But following his guidelines didn't work for me. My eth0 and eth1 did not come up, and "brctl show" showed that br0 didn't have any interfaces (the bond). I assumed it didn't work because he's using 10.4, and this article says there's a recent change in bonding: [I can't post more than one hyperlink per post because I'm a newbie.] I had to use this article to get my interfaces to work at all on the same subnet, which is why I have the post-up lines on some of my interfaces: [I can't post more than one hyperlink per post because I'm a newbie.] I installed ifenslave and ethtool. The only other thing I could find that looked suspicious is an error regarding bonding in /var/log/messages: kernel: [ 3.828684] bonding: Warning: either miimon or arp_interval and arp_ip_target module parameters must be specified, otherwise bonding will not detect link failures! see bonding.txt for details. even though there is a bond-miimon line in /etc/network/interfaces (if that's what they're talking about). Oracle Solaris 11 was announced last week, and I'm pleased to also announce that Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1 is now certified on Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit). This new operating system release represents a culmination of years of hard work by our Solaris engineering group. It has a number of new and advanced features including simplified deployment and lifecycle management tools, built-in certified virtualization technologies, support on the latest generation SPARC chips, and more. New installations of the E-Business Suite R12 on this platform will require version 12.1.1 or higher and the latest Rapid Install startCD version 12.1.1.13. How to handle growing QA reporting requirements?

Some Background: Our company is growing very quickly - in 3 years we've tripled in size and there are no signs of stopping any time soon. Our marketing department has expanded and our IT requirements have as well. When I first arrived everything was managed in Dreamweaver and Excel spreadsheets and we've worked hard to implement bug tracking, version control, continuous integration, and multi-stage deployment. It's been a long hard road, and now we need to get more organized. The Problem at Hand: Management would like to track, per-developer, who is generating the most issues at the QA stage (post unit testing, regression, and post-production issues specifically). This becomes a fine balance because many issues can't be reported granularly (e.g. per-url or per-"page") but yet that's how Management would like reporting to be broken down. Further, severity has to be taken into account. We have drafted standards for each of these areas specific to our environment. Developers don't want to be nicked for 100+ instances of an issue if it was a problem with an include or inheritance... I had a suggestion to "score" bugs based on severity... but nobody likes that. We can't enter issues for every individual module affected by a global issue. [UPDATED] The Actual Questions: How do medium sized businesses and code shops handle bug tracking, reporting, and providing useful metrics to management? What kinds of KPIs are better metrics for employee performance? What is the most common way to provide per-developer reporting as far as time-to-close, reopens, etc.? Do large enterprises ignore the efforts of the individuals and rather focus on the team? Some other questions: Is this too granular of reporting? Is this considered 'blame culture'? If you were the developer working in this environment, what would you define as a measureable goal for this year to track your progress, with the reward of achieving the goal a bonus?

7u45 Caller-Allowable-Codebase and Trusted-Library

Java 7 update 45 (October 2013) changed the interactions between JavaScript and Java Applets made through LiveConnect. The 7u45 update is a critical patch update that has also raised the security baseline and users are strongly recommended to upgrade. Versions below the security baseline used to apply the Trusted-Library Manifest attribute to call between sandboxed code and higher-privileged code. The Trusted-Library value was a Boolean true or false. Security changes for the current security baseline (7u45) introduced a different Caller-Allowable-Codebase that indicates precisely where these LiveConnect calls can originate. For example, LiveConnect calls should not necessarily originate from 3rd party components of a web page or other DOM-based browser manipulations (pdf). Additional information about these can be located at “JAR File Manifest Attributes for Security.” The workaround for end-user dialogs is described on the 7u45 release notes, which explains removing the Trusted-Library attribute for LiveConnect calls in favor of Caller-Allowable-Codebase. This provides necessary protections (without warnings) for all users at or above the security baseline. Client installations automatically detect updates to the secure baseline and prompt users to upgrade. Warning dialogs above or below Both of these attributes should work together to support the various versions of client installations. We are aware of the issue that modifying the Manifest to use the newer Caller-Allowable-Codebase causes warnings for users below the security baseline and that not doing it displays a warning for users above. Manifest Attribute 7u45 7u40 and below Only Caller-Allowable-Codebase No dialog Displays prompt Only Trusted-Library Displays prompt No dialog Both Displays prompt (*) No dialog This will be fixed in a future release so that both attributes can co-exist. The current work-around would be to favor using Caller-Allowable-Codebase over the old Trusted-Library call. For users who need to stay below the security baseline System Administrators that schedule software deployments across managed computers may consider applying a Deployment Rule Set as described in Option 1 of “What to do if your applet is blocked or warns of mixed code.” System Administrators may also sign up for email notifications of Critical Patch Updates.

FrameBuffer Render to texture not working all the way

I am learning to use Frame Buffer Objects. For this purpose, I chose to render a triangle to a texture and then map that to a quad. When I render the triangle, I clear the color to something blue. So, when I render the texture on the quad from fbo, it only renders everything blue, but doesn't show up the triangle. I can't seem to figure out why this is happening. Can someone please help me out with this ? I'll post the rendering code here, since glCheckFramebufferStatus doesn't complain when I setup the FBO. I've pasted the setup code at the end. Today I have been working on automatic deployment of an ubuntu server. I got stuck on automatic updating of the server using apt-get upgrade trying to upgrade to a new kernel. Then a question is presented: Package configuration +---------------------------------¦ +---------------------------------+ ¦ A new version of /boot/grub/menu.lst is available, but the version ¦ ¦ installed currently has been locally modified. ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ What would you like to do about menu.lst? ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ install the package maintainer's version ¦ ¦ keep the local version currently installed ¦ ¦ show the differences between the versions ¦ ¦ show a side-by-side difference between the versions ¦ ¦ show a 3-way difference between available versions ¦ ¦ do a 3-way merge between available versions (experimental) ¦ ¦ start a new shell to examine the situation ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ <Ok> ¦ ¦ ¦ +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ The desired outcome would be to select the first option and to continue: Replacing config file /run/grub/menu.lst with new version Updating /boot/grub/menu.lst ... done After running the upgrade by hand, I used debconf-get-selections to inspect the correct answer for the question (see other settings). It seems like update_grub_changeprompt_threeway is the question that should be answered. However, setting this using debconf-set-selections presented me with the same question: debconf-set-selections <<< "grub grub/update_grub_changeprompt_threeway select install_new" apt-get -y dist-upgrade How can this question be automated?
