  • Mysql results sorted by list which is unique for each user

    - by ADAM
Ive got a table of thousands of products and 50 or so authenticated users. These users all show the products on their own web sites and they all require the ability to have them ordered differently. Im guesing i need some kind of seperate table for the orders which contains the product_id, user_id and order column? How do i do this the most efficiently in mysql so as to be very fast, and not slow down if i get millions of products in the database. Is it even wise to do it in mysql or should i be using some kind of other index like solr/lucene? My Product table is called "products" My User table is called "users" A good example of the functionality i need is google search where you can order/supress the results if you are logged in. edit: the product results will be paginated and the users have the authority to edit the products, so its not just ready only

  • Help to chouse NoSQL database for project

    - by potapuff
There is a table: doc_id(integer)-value(integer) Approximate 100k doc_id and 27?? rows. Majority query on this table - searching documents similar to current document: select 10 documents with maximum of (count common to current document value)/(count ov values in document). Nowadays we use PostgreSQL. Table weight (with index) ~1,5 GB. Average query time ~0.5s. Should I transfer all this to NoSQL base, if so, what?

  • How do I delete a foreign key in SQLAlchemy?

    - by Travis
I'm using SQLAlchemy Migrate to keep track of database changes and I'm running into an issue with removing a foreign key. I have two tables, t_new is a new table, and t_exists is an existing table. I need to add t_new, then add a foreign key to t_exists. Then I need to be able to reverse the operation (which is where I'm having trouble). t_new = sa.Table("new", meta.metadata, sa.Column("new_id", sa.types.Integer, primary_key=True) ) t_exists = sa.Table("exists", meta.metadata, sa.Column("exists_id", sa.types.Integer, primary_key=True), sa.Column( "new_id", sa.types.Integer, sa.ForeignKey("new.new_id", onupdate="CASCADE", ondelete="CASCADE"), nullable=False ) ) This works fine: t_new.create() t_exists.c.new_id.create() But this does not: t_exists.c.new_id.drop() t_new.drop() Trying to drop the foreign key column gives an error: 1025, "Error on rename of '.\my_db_name\#sql-1b0_2e6' to '.\my_db_name\exists' (errno: 150)" If I do this with raw SQL, i can remove the foreign key manually then remove the column, but I haven't been able to figure out how to remove the foreign key with SQLAlchemy? How can I remove the foreign key, and then the column?

  • Problem in creating different types of columns in a Winforms gridview

    - by Royson
My windows form application has a grid view control with filename as a default column. User should create a column of following types Text, Number, Currency, Combo Box, Check Box, Radio Button ,Date time type (should display DateTimePicker control) and Hyper Link type. After that i want to pass all rows to next screen for further processing. We can create a column of these types in a grid view but how can i store it in a data table so that i can pass it to next screen. Or should i create a column in a data table and then assign data table to grid view by gridview.DataSource = dt; but can we create a these types of columns in a data table.

  • Asynchronous callback - gwt

    - by sprasad12
Hi, I am using gwt and postgres for my project. On the front end i have few widgets whose data i am trying to save on to tables at the back-end when i click on "save project" button(this also takes the name for the created project). In the asynchronous callback part i am setting more than one table. But it is not sending the data properly. I am getting the following error: org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: ERROR: insert or update on table "entitytype" violates foreign key constraint "entitytype_pname_fkey" Detail: Key (pname)=(Project Name) is not present in table "project". But when i do the select statement on project table i can see that the project name is present. Here is how the callback part looks like: oksave.addClickHandler(new ClickHandler(){ @Override public void onClick(ClickEvent event) { if(erasync == null) erasync = GWT.create(EntityRelationService.class); AsyncCallback<Void> callback = new AsyncCallback<Void>(){ @Override public void onFailure(Throwable caught) { } @Override public void onSuccess(Void result){ } }; erasync.setProjects(projectname, callback); for(int i = 0; i < boundaryPanel.getWidgetCount(); i++){ top = new Integer(boundaryPanel.getWidget(i).getAbsoluteTop()).toString(); left = new Integer(boundaryPanel.getWidget(i).getAbsoluteLeft()).toString(); if(widgetTitle.startsWith("ATTR")){ type = "regular"; erasync.setEntityAttribute(name1, name, type, top, left, projectname, callback); } else{ erasync.setEntityType(name, top, left, projectname, callback); } } } Question: Is it wrong to set more than one in the asynchronous callback where all the other tables are dependent on a particular table? when i say setProjects in the above code isn't it first completed and then moved on to the next one? Please any input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Are these tables too big for SQL Server or Oracle

    - by Jeffrey Cameron
Hey all, I'm not much of a database guru so I would like some advice. Background We have 4 tables that are currently stored in Sybase IQ. We don't currently have any choice over this, we're basically stuck with what someone else decided for us. Sybase IQ is a column-oriented database that is perfect for a data warehouse. Unfortunately, my project needs to do a lot of transactional updating (we're more of an operational database) so I'm looking for more mainstream alternatives. Question Given these tables' dimensions, would anyone consider SQL Server or Oracle to be a viable alternative? Table 1 : 172 columns * 32 million rows Table 2 : 453 columns * 7 million rows Table 3 : 112 columns * 13 million rows Table 4 : 147 columns * 2.5 million rows Given the size of data what are the things I should be concerned about in terms of database choice, server configuration, memory, platform, etc.?

  • jQuery plugin Tablesorter 2.0 behaves weird

    - by gunther-von-goetzen-sanchez
    I downloaded the jQuery plugin Tablesorter 2.0 from http://tablesorter.com/jquery.tablesorter.zip and modified the example-pager.html which is in tablesorter/docs directory I wrote additional Rollover effects: $(function() { $("table") .tablesorter({widthFixed: true, widgets: ['zebra']}) .tablesorterPager({container: $("#pager")}); /** Additional code */ $("tr").mouseover(function () { $(this).addClass('over'); }); $("tr").mouseout(function () { $(this).removeClass('over'); }); $("tr").click(function () { $(this).addClass('marked'); }); $("tr").dblclick(function () { $(this).removeClass('marked'); }); /** Additional code END */ }); And of course modified the themes/blue/style.css file: /* Additional code */ table.tablesorter tbody tr.odd td { background-color: #D1D1F0; } table.tablesorter tbody tr.even td { background-color: #EFDEDE; } table.tablesorter tbody tr.over td { background-color: #FBCA33; } table.tablesorter tbody tr.marked td { background-color: #FB4133; } /* Additional code END*/ All this works fine BUT when I go to further pages i.e. page 2 3 or 4 the effects are gone!   • Mapping composite foreign keys in a many-many relationship in Entity Framework

    - by Kirk Broadhurst
I have a Page table and a View table. There is a many-many relationship between these two via a PageView table. Unfortunately all of these tables need to have composite keys (for business reasons). Page has a primary key of (PageCode, Version), View has a primary key of (ViewCode, Version). PageView obviously enough has PageCode, ViewCode, and Version. The FK to Page is (PageCode, Version) and the FK to View is (ViewCode, Version) Makes sense and works, but when I try to map this in Entity framework I get Error 3021: Problem in mapping fragments...: Each of the following columns in table PageView is mapped to multiple conceptual side properties: PageView.Version is mapped to (PageView_Association.View.Version, PageView_Association.Page.Version) So clearly enough, EF is having a complain about the Version column being a common component of the two foreign keys. Obviously I could create a PageVersion and ViewVersion column in the join table, but that kind of defeats the point of the constraint, i.e. the Page and View must have the same Version value. Has anyone encountered this, and is there anything I can do get around it? Thanks!

  • HTML form with multiple submit options

    - by phimuemue
Hi, I'm trying to create a small web app that is used to remove items from a MySQL table. It just shows the items in a HTML table and for each item a button [delete]: item_1 [delete] item_2 [delete] ... item_N [delete] To achieve this, I dynamically generate the table via PHP into a HTML form. This form has then obviously N [delete]-buttons. The form should use the POST-method for transfering data. For the deletion I wanted to submit the ID (primary key in the MySQL table) of the corresponding item to the executing php skript. So I introduced hidden fields (all these fields have the name='ID' that store the ID of the corresponding item. However, when pressing an arbitrary [delete], it seems to submit always just the last ID (i.e. the value of the last ID hidden field). Is there any way to submit just the ID field of the corresponding item without using multiple forms? Or is it possible to submit data from multiple forms with just one submit-button? Or should I even choose any completly different way? The point why I want to do it in just one single form is that there are some "global" parameters that shall not be placed next to each item, but just once for the whole table.

  • how to 'scale' these three tables?

    - by iddqd
I have the following Tables: Players id playerName Weapons id type otherData Weapons2Player id playersID_reference weaponsID_reference That was nice and simple. Now I need to SELECT items from the Weapons table, according to some of their characteristics that i previously just packed into the otherData column (since it was only needed on the client side). The problem is, that the types have varying characteristics - but also a lot of similar data. So I'm trying to decide on the following possibilities, all of which have their pros and cons. Solution A Kill the Weapons table, and create a new table for each Weapon-Type: Weapons_Swords id bladeType damage otherData Weapons_Guns id accuracy damage ammoType otherData But how will i Link these to the Players ? create Weapons_Swords2Players, Weapons_Guns2Players for each weapon-type? (Will result in a lot more JOINS when loading the player with all his weapons...and it's also more complicated to insert a new player) or add another column to Weapons2Players called WeaponsTypeTable, then do sub-selects to the correct Weapons sub-table (seems easier, but not really right, slightly easier insert i guess) Solution B Keep the Weapons table, and add all the fields i need to it. The Problem is that then there will be NULL fields, since not all Weapon-Types use all fields (can't be right) Weapons id type accuracy damage ammoType bladeType otherData This seems to be pretty basic stuff, but i just can't decide what's best. Or is there a correct Solution C? many thanks.

  • Which non-clustered index should I use?

    - by Junior Mayhé
Here I am studying nonclustered indexes on SQL Server Management Studio. I've created a table with more than 1 million records. This table has a primary key. CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Customers]( [CustomerId] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [CustomerName] [varchar](100) NOT NULL, [Deleted] [bit] NOT NULL, [Active] [bit] NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT [PK_Customers] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [CustomerId] ASC )WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY] ) ON [PRIMARY] This is the query I'll be using to see what execution plan is showing: SELECT CustomerName FROM Customers Well, executing this command with no additional non-clustered index, it leads the execution plan to show me: I/O cost = 3.45646 Operator cost = 4.57715 Now I'm trying to see if it's possible to improve performance, so I've created a non-clustered index for this table: 1) First non-clustered index CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX [IX_CustomerID_CustomerName] ON [dbo].[Customers] ( [CustomerId] ASC, [CustomerName] ASC )WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, SORT_IN_TEMPDB = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, DROP_EXISTING = OFF, ONLINE = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY] GO Executing again the select against Customers table, the execution plan shows me: I/O cost = 2.79942 Operator cost = 3.92001 It seems better. Now I've deleted this just created non-clustered index, in order to create a new one: 2) First non-clustered index CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX [IX_CustomerIDIncludeCustomerName] ON [dbo].[Customers] ( [CustomerId] ASC ) INCLUDE ( [CustomerName]) WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, SORT_IN_TEMPDB = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, DROP_EXISTING = OFF, ONLINE = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY] GO With this new non-clustered index, I've executed the select statement again and the execution plan shows me the same result: I/O cost = 2.79942 Operator cost = 3.92001 So, which non-clustered index should I use? Why the costs are the same on execution plan for I/O and Operator? Am I doing something wrong or this is expected? thank you

  • Any simple approaches for managing customer data change requests for global reference files?

    - by Kelly Duke
For the first time, I am developing in an environment in which there is a central repository for a number of different industry standard reference data tables and many different customers who need to select records from these industry standard reference data tables to fill in foreign key information for their customer specific records. Because these industry standard reference files are utilized by all customers, I want to reserve Create/Update/Delete access to these records for global product administrators. However, I would like to implement a (semi-)automated interface by which specific customers could request record additions, deletions or modifications to any of the industry standard reference files that are shared among all customers. I know I need something like a "data change request" table specifying: user id, user request datetime, request type (insert, modify, delete), a user entered text explanation of the change request, the user request's current status (pending, declined, completed), admin resolution datetime, admin id, an admin entered text description of the resolution, etc. What I can't figure out is how to elegantly handle the fact that these data change requests could apply to dozens of different tables with differing table column definitions. I would like to give the customer users making these data change requests a convenient way to enter their proposed record additions/modifications directly into CRUD screens that look very much like the reference table CRUD screens they don't have write/delete permissions for (with an additional text explanation and perhaps request priority field). I would also like to give the global admins a tool that allows them to view all the outstanding data change requests for the users they oversee sorted by date requested or user/date requested. Upon selecting a data change request record off the list, the admin would be directed to another CRUD screen that would be populated with the fields the customer users requested for the new/modified industry standard reference table record along with customer's text explanation, the request status and the text resolution explanation field. At this point the admin could accept/edit/reject the requested change and if accepted the affected industry standard reference file would be automatically updated with the appropriate fields and the data change request record's status, text resolution explanation and resolution datetime would all also be appropriately updated. However, I want to keep the actual production reference tables as simple as possible and free from these extraneous and typically null customer change request fields. I'd also like the data change request file to aggregate all data change requests across all the reference tables yet somehow "point to" the specific reference table and primary key in question for modification & deletion requests or the specific reference table and associated customer user entered field values in question for record creation requests. Does anybody have any ideas of how to design something like this effectively? Is there a cleaner, simpler way I am missing? Thank you so much for reading.

  • How to improve performance of non-scalar aggregations on denormalized tables

    - by The Lazy DBA
Suppose we have a denormalized table with about 80 columns, and grows at the rate of ~10 million rows (about 5GB) per month. We currently have 3 1/2 years of data (~400M rows, ~200GB). We create a clustered index to best suit retrieving data from the table on the following columns that serve as our primary key... [FileDate] ASC, [Region] ASC, [KeyValue1] ASC, [KeyValue2] ASC ... because when we query the table, we always have the entire primary key. So these queries always result in clustered index seeks and are therefore very fast, and fragmentation is kept to a minimum. However, we do have a situation where we want to get the most recent FileDate for every Region, typically for reports, i.e. SELECT [Region] , MAX([FileDate]) AS [FileDate] FROM HugeTable GROUP BY [Region] The "best" solution I can come up to this is to create a non-clustered index on Region. Although it means an additional insert on the table during loads, the hit isn't minimal (we load 4 times per day, so fewer than 100,000 additional index inserts per load). Since the table is also partitioned by FileDate, results to our query come back quickly enough (200ms or so), and that result set is cached until the next load. However I'm guessing that someone with more data warehousing experience might have a solution that's more optimal, as this, for some reason, doesn't "feel right".

  • Many-to-Many Relationships in MySQL

    - by Kaji
I've been reading up on foreign keys and joins recently, and have been pleasantly surprised that many of the basic concepts are things I'm already putting into practice. For example, with one project I'm currently working on, I'm organizing word lists, and have a table for the sets, like so: `words` Table `word_id` `headword` `category_id` `categories` Table `category_id` `category_name` Now, generally speaking this would be a one-to-many relationship, with several words being placed under a single category with the foreign key category_id. Let's assume for a moment, however, that a user chooses to add another category to a word, making it many-to-many—Is there a way to set up my words table to handle additional categories for words without creating extra columns like category_2, category_3, etc.?

We want to establish some database metadata naming rules in our new project. For example: tables are named as nouns in a plural form (courses, books, lessons) if present, an adjective goes before a noun in a table name and is separated by an underscore (red_books, new_lessons) table index column is always named "id" foreign key names are derived from a table name with suffix _id (book_id, red_book_id) so on Does someone know any guide like this?

  • How to define index by several columns in hibernate entity?

    - by foobar
Morning. I need to add indexing in hibernate entity. As I know it is possible to do using @Index annotation to specify index for separate column but I need an index for several fields of entity. I've googled and found jboss annotation @Table, that allows to do this (by specification). But (I don't know why) this functionality doesn't work. May be jboss version is lower than necessary, or maybe I don't understant how to use this annotation, but... complex index is not created. Why index may not be created? jboss version 4.2.3.GA Entity example: package somepackage; import org.hibernate.annotations.Index; import javax.persistence.Column; import javax.persistence.Entity; import javax.persistence.GeneratedValue; import javax.persistence.Id; @Entity @org.hibernate.annotations.Table(appliesTo = House.TABLE_NAME, indexes = { @Index(name = "IDX_XDN_DFN", columnNames = {House.XDN, House.DFN} ) } ) public class House { public final static String TABLE_NAME = "house"; public final static String XDN = "xdn"; public final static String DFN = "dfn"; @Id @GeneratedValue private long Id; @Column(name = XDN) private long xdn; @Column(name = DFN) private long dfn; @Column private String address; public long getId() { return Id; } public void setId(long id) { this.Id = id; } public long getXdn() { return xdn; } public void setXdn(long xdn) { this.xdn = xdn; } public long getDfn() { return dfn; } public void setDfn(long dfn) { this.dfn = dfn; } public String getAddress() { return address; } public void setAddress(String address) { this.address = address; } } When jboss/hibernate tries to create table "house" it throws following exception: Reason: org.hibernate.AnnotationException: @org.hibernate.annotations.Table references an unknown table: house

  • How should I manage my many-to-many relationships?

    - by wes
Hello all, I have a database containing a couple tables: files and users. This relationship is many-to-many, so I also have a table called users_files_ref which holds foreign keys to both of the above tables. Here's the schema of each table: files - file_id, file_name users - user_id, user_name users_files_ref - user_file_ref_id, user_id, file_id I'm using Codeigniter to build a file host application, and I'm right in the middle of adding the functionality that enables users to upload files. This is where I'm running into my problem. Once I add a file to the files table, I will need that new file's id to update the users_files_ref table. Right now I'm adding the record to the files table, and then I imagined I'd run a query to grab the last file added, so that I can get the ID, and then use that ID to insert the new users_files_ref record. I know this will work on a small scale, but I imagine there is a better way of managing these records, especially in a heavy-traffic scenario. I am new to relational database stuff but have been around PHP for a while, so please bear with me here :-) I have primary and foreign keys set up correctly for the files, users, and users_files_ref tables, I'm just wondering how to manage the adding of file records for this scenario? Thanks for any help provided, it's much appreciated. -Wes

  • Free tools/libraries to compare tables with filtering for SQL Server 2008 and visualize/sync diffs t

    - by MicMit
I am building certain GUI in C# for a content manager and looking for the tools or code snippets or open libraries ( code ideally in C# ) which allow me the following : 1. For table A in database X (test ) and table A in database Y (production) and for a simple filter ( e.g. listname = "XYZ" ) I need to show additions/deletions/updates in some way. which might be side-by-side or just html report 2 record added html table with some fields 2 record deleted html table with some fields Considering that this task is very common, I guess, certain components should exist ? Components either return some collections from parameters given for further visualizing or just produce reports mentioned above. 2. I need to push changes for the filter I mentioned in 1 and update table in production database for this filter only ( ie for the particular list approved by content person). Again probably there are certain SQL code generators - components in addition to diffs or standalone. 3. The key thing tools/libraries - should be suitable for integration with the existing application in C#.

  • Is there a way to optimize this mysql query...?

    - by SpikETidE
Hi Everyone... Say, I got these two tables.... Table 1 : Hotels hotel_id hotel_name 1 abc 2 xyz 3 efg Table 2 : Payments payment_id payment_date hotel_id total_amt comission p1 23-03-2010 1 100 10 p2 23-03-2010 2 50 5 p3 23-03-2010 2 200 25 p4 23-03-2010 1 40 2 Now, I need to get the following details from the two tables Given a particular date (say, 23-03-2010), the sum of the total_amt for each of the hotel for which a payment has been made on that particular date. All the rows that has the date 23-03-2010 ordered according to the hotel name A sample output is as follows... +------------+------------+------------+---------------+ | hotel_name | date | total_amt | commission | +------------+------------+------------+---------------+ | * abc | 23-03-2010 | 140 | 12 | +------------+------------+------------+---------------+ |+-----------+------------+------------+--------------+| || paymt_id | date | total_amt | commission || |+-----------+------------+------------+--------------+| || p1 | 23-03-2010 | 100 | 10 || |+-----------+------------+------------+--------------+| || p4 | 23-03-2010 | 40 | 2 || |+-----------+------------+------------+--------------+| +------------+------------+------------+---------------+ | * xyz | 23-03-2010 | 250 | 30 | +------------+------------+------------+---------------+ |+-----------+------------+------------+--------------+| || paymt_id | date | total_amt | commission || |+-----------+------------+------------+--------------+| || p2 | 23-03-2010 | 50 | 5 || |+-----------+------------+------------+--------------+| || p3 | 23-03-2010 | 200 | 25 || |+-----------+------------+------------+--------------+| +------------------------------------------------------+ Above the sample of the table that has to be printed... The idea is first to show the consolidated detail of each hotel, and when the '*' next to the hotel name is clicked the breakdown of the payment details will become visible... But that can be done by some jquery..!!! The table itself can be generated with php... Right now i am using two separate queries : One to get the sum of the amount and commission grouped by the hotel name. The next is to get the individual row for each entry having that date in the table. This is, of course, because grouping the records for calculating sum() returns only one row for each of the hotel with the sum of the amounts... Is there a way to combine these two queries into a single one and do the operation in a more optimized way...?? Hope i am being clear.. Thanks for your time and replies...

  • How to join mysql tables

    - by Ivan
I've an old table like this: user> id | name | address | comments And now I've to create an "alias" table to allow some users to have an alias name for some reasons. I've created a new table 'user_alias' like this: user_alias> name | user But now I have a problem due my poor SQL level... How to join both tables to generate something like this: 1 | my_name | my_address | my_comments 1 | my_alias | my_address | my_comments 2 | other_name | other_address | other_comments I mean, I want to make a "SELECT..." query that returns in the same format as the "user" table ALL users and ALL alias.. Something like this: SELECT user.* FROM user LEFT JOIN user_alias ON `user`=`id` but it doesn't work for me..
