• Problem with Access 2003 linking tables with SQL Server 2008 using ODBC

  I am trying to link an Access 2003 DB to tables in a SQL Server 2008 database using ODBC. When I try to link to tables that have Primary Key established I get the following error message. " 'Pk_dbo.Batch_Claims' is not a valid name. Make sure that it does not include invalid characters or punctuation and that it is not to long. " Pk_dbo.Batch_Claims is the key value I see when looking at the table through SSMS. I have used Access for awhile but am somewhat new to SQL Server and connections using ODBC. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

• IA-32: Pushing a byte onto a stack isn't possible on Pentium, why?

  Hi, I've come to learn that you cannot push a byte directly onto the Intel Pentium's stack, can anyone explain this to me please? The reason that I've been given is because the esp register is word-addressable (or, that is the assumption in our model) and it must be an "even address". I would have assumed decrementing the value of some 32-bit binary number wouldn't mess with the alignment of the register, but apparently I don't understand enough. I have tried some NASM tests and come up that if I declare a variable (bite db 123) and push it on to the stack, esp is decremented by 4 (indicating that it pushed 32-bits?). But, "push byte bite" (sorry for my choice of variable names) will result in a kind error: test.asm:10: error: Unsupported non-32-bit ELF relocation Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated during this troubled time. I am first year undergraduate so sorry for my naivety in any of this. Tim

  I have a datagridview(dgv) with a DataGridViewComboBoxColumn(colLocation) colLocation.AutoComplete = False colLocation.HeaderText = "Stored to" colLocation.DataSource = DB.getLocation() colLocation.DisplayMember = "description" colLocation.ValueMember = "id" I added the colLocation to dgv. "descirption" contains Unicode characters. I can see the comboBox correctly and choose the item. The problem is when the comboBox lost the focus, the value is changed to first item of the comboBox. Any suggestion? Updated: I found out that the ComboBox doesn't change the data when the DisplayMember is in English characters. It changes only when the DisplayMember is in Unicode chracter.   In our current WinForms app, we are displaying millions of records in ListView, using virtualization. Rows are loaded from DB as they are requested. This works well, with good performance. This is a showstopper for migrating to WPF for us. We need data virtualization in a ListView, like WinForms 2.0 has. Do you know a decent third-party control, or a relatively easy way of doing it with built-in controls? It doesn't need to be a DataGrid, a simple ListView will suffice. Note, I'm note talking about UI virtualization, it's data virtualization.

• SQL Server: Can INFORMATION_SCHEMA Tell Me When a SQL Object Was Created?

  Given: I added a non-nullable foreign key to a table. I settled on a way to populate the foreign key with default values. I checked in both changes to a re-runnable DB creation script. Other developers ran this script, and now they have the foreign key populated with default values on their developer machines. A few days later however... I changed my mind. Now I'd like to populate the foreign key's default values differently. My Question: Can SQL Server or INFORMATION_SCHEMA tell me when SQL objects were created? Ideally, I'd like to drop and re-add the foreign key if it was created before a certain date/time. Any help or alternative strategies would be greatly appreciated. Obviously, I'd like to avoid going to each developer's cube, asking them to drop the foreign key manually.

  Hello everyone, I am using SQL Server 2008 (let us call this source database server in this question discussion), and in SSMS, I have created a linked server to another SQL Server 2008 database (let us call this destination database server in this question discussion). When I issue statement -- select * from [linked server name].[database name].[dbo].[table name], error will be returned, Linked server "ZS" The OLE DB access interface "SQLNCLI10" returned "NON-CLUSTERED and NOT INTEGRATED "Index" ix_foo_basic_info_nf ", which is incorrect bookmark ordinal 0. When I issue statement -- select * from openquery([linked server name],'select * from [table name]'), there will be no errors, any ideas what is wrong? thanks in advance, George

  I have a database containing tables with more than 600 million records and a set of stored procedures that make complex search operations on the database. The performance of the stored procedures is so slow even with suitable indexes on the tables. The design of the database is a normal relational db design. I want to change the database design to be multidimensional and use the MDX queries instead of the traditional T-SQL queries but the question is: Is the MDX query better than the traditional T-SQL query with regard to performance? and if yes, to what extent will that improve the performance of the queries? • Rails: Cannot add :precision or :scale options with change_column in a migration?

  This seems to have been asked before: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1402547/rails-decimal-precision-and-scale But when running a change_column migration for :precision or :scale they don't actually affect the schema or database, but db:migrate runs without errors. • SQL model optimization question

  I need to keep track of number of "hits" on a particular item in a DB. The thing is that the "hits" should stay unique with a user ID, so if a user hits the item 3 times, it should still count for a hit of 1. Also, I need to display the total number of hits for a particular item. Is there a better way than to store each hits for each items by each users in a separate table? Would keeping the user ID in a string separated by commas a better and efficient way?

• How to scale MySQL with multiple machines?

  I have a web app running LAMP. We recently have an increase in load and is now looking at solutions to scale. Scaling apache is pretty easy we are just going to have multiple multiple machines hosting it and round robin the incoming traffic. However, each instance of apache will talk with MySQL and eventually MySQL will be overloaded. How to scale MySQL across multiple machines in this setup? I have already looked at this but specifically we need the updates from the DB available immediately so I don't think replication is a good strategy here? Also hopefully this can be done with minimal code change. PS. We have around a 1:1 read-write ratio.

  I have table A with a primary id, a table B with a primary key id also and another table C with a primary key id and rows Aid and Bid where Aid and Bid are foreign keys of C and the primary keys of A and B respectively. One way of populating these DB would be populating table A, table B and table C separately. I would like to know if there is a more clever way of doing it, where I could populate A first and at the same time I populate B, I can indicate that an entry in C should be also created. • Proper way of utilizing gearman with my php application.

  For now I just want to use Gearman for background processing. For example, I need to email a recipient that they have a private message waiting for them once the sender submits their message into the DB. I assume I can run the worker/client and server on my primary server but I have no problems offloading some of the tasks to a different web server. Anyways, my question is how do I handle multiple "functions?" Let's say I need a job that handles the email portion and a job to handle image manipulation. Can I have multiple functions in the worker? I've followed a couple of examples I found online but each example only shows one function being initialized. Do I have to start up multiple "workers" to handle multiple functions?

• Elmah on MVC website with WordPress/php sub directory

  I have created a website using ASP.NET MVC and use ELMAH for error handling, this works perfectly. After setting up a virtual directory on my website under /blog and adding the necessary WordPress php files and mysql db, I get the below error come up. Could not load file or assembly 'Elmah' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. I think this has something to do with the fact that ELMAH is applying itself to all sub-directories. Is there a way that I can tell ELMAH to ignore everything under /blog? Or is there a way to get around this? Thanks in advance.

  In my app, I have defined a custom field to represent a physical quantity using the quantities package. class AmountField(models.CharField): def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs): ... def to_python(self, value): create_quantities_value(value) Essentially the way it works is it extends CharField to store the value as a string in the database "12 min" and represents it as a quantities object when using the field in a model array(12) * min Then in a model it is used as such: class MyModel(models.Model): group = models.CharField() amount = AmountField() class Meta: ordering = ['group', 'amount'] My issue is that these fields do not seem to sort by the quantity, but instead by the string. So if I have some objects that contain something like {"group":"A", "amount":"12 min"} {"group":"A", "amount":"20 min"} {"group":"A", "amount":"2 min"} {"group":"B", "amount":"20 min"} {"group":"B", "amount":"1 hr"} they end up sorted something like this: >>> MyModel.objects.all() [{A, 12 min}, {A, 2 min}, {A, 20 min}, {B, 1 hr}, {B, 20 min}] essentially alphabetical order. Can I give my custom AmountField a comparison function so that it will compare by the python value instead of the DB value?

I am using xml source nad oledb destination My issue now is this xml file generate multiple outputs .(event,produt,offer,form) etc. But i need to write all in one data row(more than one if 2 products are there for the event) in the database. But i do not know how to use this multiple outputs and make a single row for a event. I hav read numerous articles about this subject but not able to take a decision.what is the right way of doing this. 1) xml source ?   Hi all, I was asked to design a class for caching SQL query results. Calling the class' query method will query and cache the entire set of results at the first time; afterward, each subsequence query will retrieve only the updated portion, and will merge the result into the cache. If the class is required to be generic, i.e. NO knowledge about the db and the tables, do you have any idea? Is it possible, and how to retrieve only updated/new records since the last query? Thanks! I have a question probably lame but it made me stuck I have the a db query $query_Recordset10 = "SELECT * FROM products WHERE razdel='mix' AND ID='$ID+1' AND litraj='$litri' ORDER BY ID ASC"; $Recordset10 = mysql_query($query_Recordset10, $victor) or die(mysql_error()); $row_Recordset10 = mysql_fetch_array($Recordset10); $totalRows_Recordset10 = mysql_num_rows($Recordset10); This is the query for the next product in the line based in the ID of the current product thats on the page. But if the next product matching the criteria in the query is 2 or more ID's ahead my cycle breaks. So is there a way for skipping this rows and get the next ID matching the criteria.
