• arbitrary typed data in django model

  I have a model, say, Item. I want to store arbitrary amount of attributes on it, like title, description, release_date. And i want them to be not just strings but have python type, so string, boolean, datetime etc. What are my options here? EAV pattern with separate name-value table won't work because of the same DB type across all values. JSONField can probably help, but it doesn't know about datetime, for example. Also i was looking at PickeField, it fits perfectly, but i'm a bit concerned about performance.

• Deploying a Rails App to Multiple Servers using Capistrano - Best Practices

  I have a rails application that I need to deploy to 3 servers - machine1.com, machine2.com and machine3.com. I want to be able to deploy it to all machines at once and each machine individually. Can someone help me out with a skeleton Capistrano config file / recipe? Should it all be in deploy.rb or should I break it out in machine1.rb, etc? I thought I was on the right track getting Capistrano to take in command line arguments, but it choked when I tried set the roles within the namespaces. I'd pass in 'hosts=1,2,3' as an argument and set the role:app/web/db to "machine#{host}.com" after splitting on the command and going into an each do |host| {}... Anyway, other than creating 4 different deploy.rb files and renaming it before running cap:deploy each time, I'm stumped. I'd like to be able to do the following: cap deploy:machine1:latest_version_from_svn cap deploy:all_machines:latest:version_from_svn Just don't know if it should all be in deploy.rb split up with namespaces or if it should be broken into multiple deploy*.rb files.

• Recordset manipulation in SSIS

  In my SSIS job, I have a need to accumulate a set of rows and commit them all transitionally when processing has completed successfully. If this was pure SQL, I would use a temp table inside a transaction. In SSIS there are a number of issues complicating this. It's difficult to have multiple components share the same transaction and having temp tables that do not exist at design time is a pain. If I use Recordsets inside SSIS for this purpose, there are other issues. My understanding is that an 'Execute SQL' component will re-initialize the Recordset when it runs, so I can't use that to append an additional row. Is there a way to create an OLE DB connection that references an in-memory Recordset? Is there a better way to achieve this result?

  So I am using Limonade PHP which has a RESTful design which emulates PUT, POST, DELETE routes for create, update, delete. I am trying to develop some form validation which is going well. The major problem I am facing though is how to return my filtered data (which has failed validation) back to repopulate the create or edit form. How would this be done? I currently have for creating a page: /admin/page/new -> GET function /admin/page -> POST function + validate + pass, update db + fail, add errors to flash, redirect to /admin/page/mew It all falls down as I do not know how to populate the /admin/page/new with the invalid, but filtered data.

  Hi Folks, I downloaded one of the rails app from server and tried running it.I faced an error on migration D:\Radiant\trunkrake db:migrate (in D:/Radiant/trunk) rake aborted! 126: The specified module could not be found. - D:/Radiant/trunk/config/../ven dor/plugins/libxml-ruby/lib/libxml_ruby.so I got the windows version of libxml_ruby.so and tried again. i got the error saying " libxml2.dll " not found.Then i checked the file libxml.rb ..it says the below lines . If running on Windows, then add the current directory to the PATH for the current process so it can find the pre-built libxml2 and iconv2 shared libraries (dlls). • How to properly use Gearman with my PHP application?

  For now I just want to use Gearman for background processing. For example, I need to email a recipient that they have a private message waiting for them once the sender submits their message into the DB. I assume I can run the worker/client and server on my primary server but I have no problems offloading some of the tasks to a different web server. Anyways, my question is how do I handle multiple "functions?" Let's say I need a job that handles the email portion and a job to handle image manipulation. Can I have multiple functions in the worker? I've followed a couple of examples I found online but each example only shows one function being initialized. Do I have to start up multiple "workers" to handle multiple functions?

• LINQ-to-SQL Query Timing Out

  I'm running this query in LINQ: var unalloc = db.slot_sp_getUnallocatedJobs("Repair", RadComboBox1.SelectedValue, 20); It runs when I first open the page, but when I go back to it and try to run the same query with a different value, "Con", being passed through, the linq to sql designer.cs tells me that I've got a timeout error. Any ideas?   I'm writing a simple little Lua commandline app that will build a static website. I'm storing my fragments in a sqlite database. Retrieving the data from the db is straightforward as is saving it; my question comes from editing the data. Is there an elegant way to pipe the data from Lua to vim? Can vim edit a memory buffer and return it? I was planning on launching the editor via os.execute('vim') but only after grabbing a temporary file handle and dumping the database output into that. I would like to have to avoid touching the filesystem that way but that is my contingency plan.

• Select from multiple tables, remove duplicates

  I have two tables in a SQLite DB, and both have the following fields: idnumber, firstname, middlename, lastname, email, login One table has all of these populated, the other doesn't have the idnumber, or middle name populated. I'd LIKE to be able to do something like: select idnumber, firstname, middlename, lastname, email, login from users1,users2 group by login; But I get an "ambiguous" error. Doing something like: select idnumber, firstname, middlename, lastname, email, login from users1 union select idnumber, firstname, middlename, lastname, email, login from users2; LOOKS like it works, but I see duplicates. my understanding is that union shouldn't allow duplicates, but maybe they're not real duplicates since the second user table doesn't have all the fields populated (e.g. "20, bob, alan, smith, [email protected], bob" is not the same as "NULL, bob, NULL, smith, [email protected], bob"). Any ideas? What am I missing? All I want to do is dedupe based on "login". Thanks!

  I have noticed that Google Toolbox for Mac replaces several SQLite built-in functions (LOWER/UPPER, LIKE, GLOB) with its own versions that handle string locales better. So, question to everyone who has SQLite experience: have you ever had any problems with non-English locales in SQLite? Does one really have to do something to properly handle non-English alphabets? What kinds of problems are expected if I use SQLite APIs as-is? (I'm going to use SQLite on the iPhone, but I guess it's the same across all platforms. I've been using Core Data previously and never had any problems, but this time I want to switch to non-ORMed db access.)

• pass form builder in remote_function in rails ?

  hi all i have select box where on change i need to grab the value and via remote function get some field names from db and then generate those field further down the form depwning on whatoption from the select box is chosen. The problem is is that the fields are in a f.form_for so are using the formbuilder f that has the select box in. So when i render the partial via ajax in the controller i get an error as i dont have a reference to the local form builder f. does anyone know how or if i can get reference to the form builder orif can pass it in a remote function call and then pass into my locals in the partial ? thanks alot, any help will be great as been stuck on this a long time! cheers rick

• Alright to truncate database tables when also using Hibernate?

  Is it OK to truncate tables while at the same time using Hibernate to insert data? We parse a big XML file with many relationships into Hibernate POJO's and persist to the DB. We are now planning on purging existing data at certain points in time by truncating the tables. Is this OK? It seems to work fine. We don't use Hibernate's second level cache. One thing I did notice, which is fine, is that when inserting we generate primary keys using Hibernate's @GeneratedValue where Hibernate just uses a key value one greater than the highest value in the table - and even though we are truncating the tables, Hibernate remembers the prior value and uses prior value + 1 as opposed to starting over at 1. This is fine, just unexpected. Note that the reason we do truncate as opposed to calling delete() on the Hibernate POJO's is for speed. We have gazillions of rows of data, and truncate is just so much faster.

  I have a grails 1.2 app and I want to use declarative security in order to restrict accesses based on roles. I decided to try shiro, installed the plugin, but when I try to authenticate, the message "Invalid username and/or password" shows up in the header. I check the db entry and the user is there with the sha'ed password. No messages are shown neither in the console nor in the stacktrace file. I added "warn 'org.jsecurity'" to Config.groovy with no results. Any hints/tricks to troubleshoot this ?

  I am trying to make an information label that should display the events the application doing. deleting data, reading data, writing data, connection to db. etc.. I've added a label to my form and I am changing its text property for each operation like: label1.Text = "stored procedure is being executed.."; But, in the run time the text of the label does not change. I've tried to add the method Application.DoEvents(); to every place I've changed the label's text property. It works fine. But it looks silly. So I've tried to add this method to my label's "TextChanged" event. But it does not work! Am I doing something wrong? Or, is there any efficient way to make an information label?

• Possible to view T-SQL syntax of a stored proc-based SqlCommand?

  Hello! I was wondering if anybody knows of a way to retrieve the actual T-SQL that is to be executed by a SqlCommand object (with a CommandType of StoredProcedure) before it executes... My scenario involves optionally saving DB operations to a file or MSMQ before the command is actually executed. My assumption is that if you create a SqlCommand like the following: Using oCommand As New SqlCommand("sp_Foo") oCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure oCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Param1", "value1")) oCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() End Using It winds up executing some T-SQL like: EXEC sp_Foo @Param1 = 'value1' Is that assumption correct? If so, is it possible to retrieve that actual T-SQL somehow? My goal here is to get the parsing, etc. benefits of using the SqlCommand class since I'm going to be using it anyway. Is this possible?   Hi, I have a byte array of around 10,000 bytes which is basically a blob from delphi that contains char, string, double and arrays of various types. This need to be read in and updated via C#. I've created a very basic reader that gets the byte array from the db and converts the bytes to the relevant object type when accessing the property which works fine. My problem is when I try to write to a specific char[] item, it doesn't seem to update the byte array. I know a possible solution is to use a private variable called _usercaplas that I set and update as needed however as the byte array is nearly 10,000 bytes in length the class is already long and I would like a simpler approach as to reduce the overall code length and complexity. Lets say i have a class Library Project named "CLP", and a website project "WP". I can add reference to CLP.dll file but how i will pass a connection string/data context object to that dll? as CLP.dll will access db based on the connection string of the "WP".
