I'm trying to use locate to find files, but I'm not getting anything back from the program. It can't even find files that are in the current directory. How do I make locate work?
I wonder if you can help me out... at the moment were using exim to relay our emails to an smtp_relay.
The only problem is if the user exists and has an email address it won't exit the server and send them mail using our relay.
I need it to go to the relay even if it's an internal email address.
Hope that make sense, this is how we have got our relay setup at the moment
smart_route:
driver = manualroute
domains = !+local_domains
transport = remote_smtp_smtpauth
route_list = * smtp.sendgrid.net:587
Thanks
Hi, I'm running Ubuntu 9.1 and every time I open a terminal window, I lose the previous command's history. How can I configure it so it's kept even after rebooting? Thanks.
Can anyone recommend a USB 3.0 adapter for my older Dell server? It does not have PCI express (PCIe) so I was looking for PCI or PCIX. I have been burned in the past installing "desktop" class drives on servers (i.e. blue screens under heavy load) so I would rather pay more to get something reliable.
We are hoping to get better speed on our backups to an external drive, even 10% improvement would be worth it.
When updating apache 2.2 to apache 2.4 (for example with this package https://launchpad.net/~ondrej/+archive/apache2) all the configs are deleted. The normally used
/etc/apache2/sites-available/default
is now completely deleted, the "new" default file (000-default) has a totally different structure, so it's not even possible to recover by doing copy & paste work.
Why does this happen and how to prevent this ?
I'm just doing a VMWare Workstation 8 installation. However, on trying to boot (or create) a VM, it's reporting "Could not get vmx86 driver version: The handle is invalid."
It recommends reinstalling, which I've done.
Also, VMWare Player just hangs.
Was going to post on the VMWare forums, but can't seem to create a new discussion (even though I've registered/logged in).
It's our own fault for being too eager to upgrade, I guess.
I'm not even sure if this is possible with Outlook's current rule set but I thought I'd ask.
I'd like emails that meet certain characteristics to automatically be moved from my inbox after they are a day old.
I get a lot of notification emails that I end up having to remove the next day manually since I get new ones to replace them each day.
So a rule would be like:
If the email is from [email protected] and older then 1 day move to already read folder.
Some of you might have noticed that Google has changed their search to use SSL by default. I noticed that even if you set your search engine on Chrome to unsecured Google, the results are delivered via HTTPS.
I was wondering if the suggestions typed on the address bar are also sent via SSL. If not, how can I make them so?
I can change the default search provider to Google SSL, but then I lose the suggestions.
I have a few computers connected through a Gigabit router which show 1Gbps connections. However, one of the computers only shows 100Mbps connectivity even though it is capable of 1Gbps. I am not seeing an errors in the event viewer.
Computer Specs
Windows XP SP3 x86
A8N-SLI Premium MoBo
Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller
Driver: Marvell v11.24.3.3 (2/15/2010)
Networking Specs
Netgear RangeMax Premium Wireless-N Gigabit Router (WNR3500)
CAT6 wiring
Question: How can I configure the above computer to run at 1Gbps connectivity like the others?
I'm trying to run a Maintenance Cleanup Task to remove .bak files older than 2 days (simple enough).
Been trying all variety of .bak, BAK, .*., and editing the path, but the files are still not getting removed even though I receive a "job succeeded" log message.
I'm not at the point where I believe it's a folder permission issue.
How do I make sure my SA has the proper permissions to remove files from a folder?
Thanks.
Occasionally, I get part of an application lingering behind on my desktop:
This is part of a context menu for an application. It is always top-most, meaning that it is always on the screen, and I cannot click on it (it just clicks through it). It has happened before, sometimes with whole windows. It remains on screen even if the application it originated from is no longer running.
How do I get rid of it without rebooting?
Hi. I have no idea where to start from so sorry in advance if this topic has already been discussed.
I usually develop web sites using my laptop as a development server, and recently I needed to test a web site using various mobile devices that can connect via wifi. Having no real AP, I set up a ad-hoc network using my laptop's wireless card and the devices can correctly browse the Internet and access the laptop's web server. The setup is as follows:
subnet: 192.168.1.0/24
gateway to the Internet (wired adsl router/modem): 192.168.1.1
laptop: 192.168.1.64 (eth0, wired if connected to the gateway) and 192.168.1.32 (eth1, wifi if somewhat bridged to eth0)
mobile devices (same for all, I only use one of them at any time for simplicity): 192.168.1.11 with default gw 192.168.1.1
Now, if I open either 192.168.1.32 or 192.168.1.64 from the mobile devices, I correctly get the default host of my Apache configuration. However I usually work with virtual hosts for many practical reasons, one of which being Drupal's peculiar implementation of multi-sites.
For those who don't know how this works, Drupal takes the request's hostname and searches into its sites/ subdirectories for an appropriate configuration file. So, for example, suppose I request www.example.com, then Drupal would search for a config file in the following directories:
sites/www.example.com/
sites/example.com/
sites/com/
sites/default/
So I decided to adopt the following style of virtual hosts: if the website I'm working on will be accessible using www.example.com I set up a sites/www.example.com/ directory and create a virtual host for local.www.example.com so Drupal have no trouble finding it.
I've been told this is suboptimal from a dns point of view since I'd have to create an authoritative entry for example.com and turn Bind on only when I'm supposed to access the local copy, which is weird. However, if this is the only path I can follow, I still have some problems with Bind's configuration, as I couldn't find any guide that tells me in a clear, noob-friendly way, how to set up such an entry.
On the other hand, I was wondering if I could set up an authoritative entry for local, so I could access www.example.com.local and tell in some way (which I don't even know if this is possible) Apache to put www.example.com instead of www.example.com.local in the relevant environment variable.
Anyway, I have a last problem, sort of: when I launch Bind in debug mode with high verbosity, and make 192.168.1.32 as the primary dns for the devices, the output doesn't say anything about requests being made from the devices to Bind, so I'm not even sure it comes into play.
As you can see, I'm a complete noob at these matters, but I'm eager to learn, so any help/pointer will be appreciated.
Is it possible to change the default terminal emulator on Windows (7 and 8 in particular) from cmd to, for example, Console2 or ConEmu? In essence, I want all command line tools, whether launched by double clicking, from "Run" or by other processes to use the custom terminal.
This is a trivial matter on Linux, is it even possible on Windows?
It would be especially helpful if this could be done via a script.
I'm stumped. I used to be able to write to DVDs and now I can't. I've tried different media (Memorex and Imations) I've tried different drives (internal and external) and even different OS's (Windows 7 and Linux Mint). Nothing I've done will work and it's a real problem not being able to burn DVD's.
I'm on an Acer 6930 if that helps.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I'd like to write a simple script that alerts me if a log changes. For this I'm using grep to find the lines I'm interested in. Right now it works like this:
grep line /var/log/file | mail -s Log [email protected]
Problem is that this sends a mail even if no matching lines are found. The mail utility from mailutils seems to have no switch telling it to drop mails that have an empty body.
Is there a quick and easy way to do so?
My HP Pavillion entertainment PC dv2000 does not boot up.
When I press the power button it turns and reads the CD and all the lights turn up, but does not go into boot mode.
What should I do? How do I troubleshoot a PC that won't even boot.
Hello,
I have bought a boxed version of Windows 7 Home Premium (not OEM). I want to install this on new iMac via bootcamp but I also want to use this Bootcamped partition via VMWare Fusion.
VMWare fusion has article about activating bootcamped windows installation.
Does this work setup work for you? Is it even legal according to license?
I established a remote session in a MacOSX (10.6.8) from my PC (Windows7) using VNC.
I initiated terminal and it is currently executing a task that will take probably 1 day before completing. Should I expect that even if I disconnect the VNC session, Terminal will keep running after I disconnect? I assume so since I used VNC just to remotely start the process but want to double check. Can anybody tell me if I am wrong?
Anyone know why doesn't the Windows command prompt window maximize to the full screen size?
To the best of my knowledge, even in the new Windows 7 the command prompt window(cmd.exe) doesn't maximize to the full screen size like all other windows. This behavior is quite annoying for me, and I'm sure to many others as well.
Note: The size of the command prompt window can be changed, but the size remains fixed regardless of the screen size.
I have MS Office 2007 installed. When am using Outlook Web Access and I receive MS Office 2007 attachments from some colleagues, OWA requires me to save the file, rather than it opening with a double-click. When I "Save Target As..." it gives only the option to save as "Compressed (Zip) File" even though the filename appears as "filename.xlsx"
Then, when I open the saved folder, the filename does not appear anywhere.
Ideas?
There is a computer that is not mine that is accessible on my network. I can even access its filesystem via AFP. What I want to know is how the computer could get on my network. My network is secured like this:
Does that mean that they've used password cracking tools? The pass is not easy to guess but not hard to figure out via brute-force hacking, I guess.
If I am being hacked, should I switch to WPA?
I'm running an install of CentOS 5.5 virtually and for some reason I only have 2 available screen resolutions - 800x600 and 640x480. Does anybody know how I can add some bigger resolutions?
I've had a look in /etc/X11/xorg.conf and it is knows that the graphics card is virtual, but even listing the resolutions that I want fails.
Here is the default screen section -
Secton "Screen"
Identifiew "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
EndSubSection
EndSection
And here is what I tried adding to SubSection "Display" -
Mode "1024x768" "1280x1024"
I am running an ASP.NET 3.5 website on IIS 6 with Server 2003. Whenever I modify any of the ASPX files, any page on the site then takes about 2-3 minutes before it starts to load. Even the smallest modification causes this to happen.
Why is this?
My company has a staging site and we access it by a url like this: www.example.com
Until today I did not realise that I had a line in my hosts file which said:
192.0.2.0 www.example.com
(the ip is fake here)
now when I try to access this site through ip , I cannot get access.. why is this the case?
We even own the domain we are using so I do not see the reason why we are using a hosts file and more over, why I cannot access the site through simple IP (by the way, we are using an internal IP)
I've Windows 2003 SBS and 40 CAL licenses for SBS. I also have Microsoft Exchange 2007 license for 2nd server which acts as front-end for Exchange (outbound/inbound emails come thru it and OWA works on it).
Does it require separate CAL's for Exchange 2007 even thou SBS has all mailboxes etc?
