• ASP.NET: disabling authentication for a single aspx page (custom error page)?

  I am using a custom error page: <customErrors redirectMode="ResponseRedirect" mode="On" defaultRedirect="Error2.aspx"/> I want to disable authentication for the custom error page because the error being raised is related to an authentication module and I don't want to get into an infinite loop and I want to display a clean error page to the user. I have been trying the following configuration to do that. <location path="Error2.aspx"> <system.web> <authentication mode="None"/> <authorization> <allow users="?"/> <allow users="*"/> </authorization> </system.web> </location> I am getting a System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException for the line that sets the authentication mode. It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS. I have verified that there are no other web.config files in subdirectories under the application's folder. The applications folder is configured as an application in IIS and the error page is at the application's root. File permissions set for the error page in IIS include anonymous and windows authentication (I have tried just anonymous as well).

• Classic ASP - Email form with attached file - please help

  Hi Guys, Ive got abit of a problem ive got an email web form that send the input to an email address but what I now need is a file input field were the user can also send an image as an attachment. So contact name, logo (attachment). Ive been told in order to send the attachment it needs to be saved in a folder on my hosting before it can be sent. Ive spoken to the hosting company and they dont have anything in place to make this easier such as aspupload. • How do I launch background jobs w/ paramiko?

  Here is my scenario: I am trying to automate some tasks using Paramiko. The tasks need to be started in this order (using the notation (host, task)): (A, 1), (B, 2), (C, 2), (A,3), (B,3) -- essentially starting servers and clients for some testing in the correct order. Further, because in the tests networking may get mucked up, and because I need some of the output from the tests, I would like to just redirect output to a file. In similar scenarios the common response is to use 'screen -m -d' or to use 'nohup'. However with paramiko's exec_cmd, nohup doesn't actually exit. Using: bash -c -l nohup test_cmd & doesnt work either, exec_cmd still blocks to process end. In the screen case, output redirection doesn't work very well, (actually, doesnt work at all the best I can figure out). So, after all that explanation, my question is: is there an easy elegant way to detach processes and capture output in such a way as to end paramiko's exec_cmd blocking? Update The dtach command works nicely for this!

• Embedded Jetty resourceBase classpath URL

  I'm embedding Jetty in a Spring based application. I configure my Jetty server in a Spring context file. The specific part of the configuration I'm having trouble with is this: <bean class="org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext"> <property name="contextPath" value="/" /> <property name="resourceBase" value="????????" /> <property name="parentLoaderPriority" value="true" /> </bean> If you see above, where I've put the ????????, I ideally want the resourceBase to reference a folder on my classpath. I'm deploying my application in a single executable JAR file and have a folder config/web/WEB-INF on my classpath. Jetty seems to be able to handle URLs defined in the resourceBase (e.g. jar:file:/myapp.jar!/config/web) but it doesn't seem to support classpath URLs. I get an IllegalArgumentException if I define something like classpath:config/web. This is a real pain for me. Does anyone know of anyway to achieve this functionality? Thanks, Andrew

• Why do i get E_ACCESSDENIED when reading public shortcuts through Shell32?

  I'm trying to read the targets of all desktop shortcuts in a C# 4 application. The shortcuts on a windows desktop can come from more that one location, depending on whether the shortcut is created for all users or just the current user. In this specific case I'm trying to read a shortcut from the public desktop, e.g. from C:\Users\Public\Desktop\shortcut.lnk. The code is like this (path is a string contaning the path to the lnk file): var shell = new Shell32.ShellClass(); var folder = shell.NameSpace(Path.GetDirectoryName(path)); var folderItem = folder.ParseName(Path.GetFileName(path)); if (folderItem != null) { var link = (Shell32.ShellLinkObject)folderItem.GetLink; The last line throws an System.UnauthorizedAccessException, indicating that it's not allowed to read the shortcut file's contents. I have tried on shortcut files on the user's private desktop (c:\Users\username\Desktop) and that works fine. So, my questions are: (1) why is my application not allowed to /read/ the shortcut from code, when I can clearly read the contents as a user? (2) is there a way to get around this? Maybe using a special manifest file for the application? And, by the way, my OS is Windows 7, 64-bit. be well -h-

• GIT clone repo across local file system

  Hi all, I am a complete Noob when it comes to GIT. I have been just taking my first steps over the last few days. I setup a repo on my laptop, pulled down the Trunk from an SVN project (had some issues with branches, not got them working), but all seems ok there. I now want to be able to pull or push from the laptop to my main desktop. The reason being the laptop is handy on the train as I spend 2 hours a day travelling and can get some good work done. But my main machine at home is great for development. So I want to be able to push / pull from the laptop to the main computer when I get home. I thought the most simple way of doing this would be to just have the code folder shared out across the LAN and do: git clone file://192.168.10.51/code unfortunately this doesn't seem to be working for me: so I open a git bash cmd and type the above command, I am in C:\code (the shared folder for both machines) this is what I get back: Initialized empty Git repository in C:/code/code/.git/ fatal: 'C:/Program Files (x86)/Git/code' does not appear to be a git repository fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly How can I share the repository between the two machines in the most simple of ways. There will be other locations that will be official storage points and places where the other devs and CI server etc will pull from, this is just so that I can work on the same repo across two machines. Using jquery, I'm trying to make it so that when you click "li.parent_folder" "ul.submenu" disappears and then reappears when you click "li.parent_folder" again. I can get it to do this but I have a problem. When I click on the "li.parent_folder" all the "ul.submenu" disapear instead of just the one that is the child of it. What would be the correct jquery code to accomplish this? (Oh, I'm using jquery ui also in this project What I have right now is this: $('li.parent_folder').click(function() { $('li.parent_folder ul.submenu').hide(); });

• Issues Deploying ROOT Context in Tomcat6

  I'm working on getting an application deployed to the ROOT ("/") context in my Tomcat 6 instance. Here's what has been done: Defined another virtual host (domain.com) Created the respective folder (/etc/tomcat6/Catalina/domain.com) Set it to auto deploy WAR's Set appBase to CATALINA_BASE/domainapps and created respective folder Copied manager.xml from localhost to domain.com. Now I'm trying to deploy into the ROOT context by uploading a ROOT.war to CATALINA_BASE/domainapps. This isn't working. I don't get any exceptions thrown, but the stock ROOT page ("It works !") stays up. I have successfully deployed it into another context (by uploading domainapp.war and viewing at /domainapp), but not ROOT. Re-reading the Virtual Host setup it makes reference to CATALINA_HOME and CATALINA_BASE. My CATALINA_HOME is at /usr/share/tomcat6/domainapp while CATALINA_BASE is /var/lib/tomcat6. Which should I be using for what? Currently haven't touched CATALINA_HOME but will try messing with a few things there. A better question might be what is the generally accepted flow taken to setup a new Tomcat instance and deploy an application to the root context.

  I am writing a script which will basically do the following: Read from a text file some arguements: DriveLetter ThreeLetterCode ServerName VolumeLetter Integer Eg. W MSS SERVER01 C 1 These values happen to form a folder destination W:\MSS\, and a filename which works in the following naming convention: SERVERNAME_VOLUMELETTER_VOL-b00X-iYYY.spi - Where The X is the Integer above The value Y I need to work out later, as this happens to be the value of the incremental image (backups) and I need to work out the latest incremental. So at the moment -- Count lines in file, and loop for this many lines. $lines = Get-Content -Path PostBackupCheck-Textfile.txt | Measure-Object -Line for ($i=0; $i -le $lines.Lines; $i++) Within this loop I need to do a Get-Content to read off the line I am currently looking at i.e. line 0, line 1, line 2, as there will be multiple lines in the format I wrote at the beginning and split the line into an array, whereby each part of the file, as seen above naming convention, is in a[0], a[1], a[2]. etc The reason for this is because, I need to then sort the folder that contains these, find the latest file, by date, and take the _iXXX.spi part and place this into the array value a[X] so I then have a complete filename to mount. This value will replace iYYY.spi It's a little complex because I also have to make sure when I do a Get-ChildItem with -Include before I sort it all by date, I am only including the filename that matches the arguements fed to it from the text file : So, SERVER01_C_VOL-b001-iYYY.spi and not anything else. i.e. not SERVER01_D_VOL-b001-iYYY.spi Then take the iYYY value from the sort on the Get-ChildItem -Include and place that into the appropriate array item.   My website, which was working before, suddenly started breaking with the error "ImproperlyConfigured at / The included urlconf resume.urls doesn't have any patterns in it" The project base is called resume.   I am trying to bind connection to the DB using JNDI in my application that runs on JBoss. I did the following: I created the datasource file oracle-ds.xml filled it with the relevant xml elements: <datasources> <local-tx-datasource> <jndi-name>bilby</jndi-name> ... </local-tx-datasource> </datasources> and put it in the folder \server\default\deploy Added the relevant oracle jar file than in my application I performed: JndiObjectFactoryBean factory = new JndiObjectFactoryBean(); factory.setJndiName("bilby"); try{ factory.afterPropertiesSet(); dataSource = factory.getObject(); } catch(NamingException ne) { ne.printStackTrace(); } and this cause the error: javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: bilby not bound then in the output after this error occured I saw the line: 18:37:56,560 INFO [ConnectionFactoryBindingService] Bound ConnectionManager 'jb oss.jca:service=DataSourceBinding,name=bilby' to JNDI name 'java:bilby' So what is my configuration problem? I think that it may be that JBoss first loads and runs the .war file of my application and only then it loads the oracle-ds.xml that contain my data-source definition. The problem is that they are both located in the same folder. Is there a way to define priority of loading them, or maybe this is not the problem at all. Any idea?

• .net 4.5 Asp Mvc -> Error 403.14- IIS 7 - Windows Server 2008 R2

  When I want to deploy an MVC 4 (.net 4.5) application to my iis i got the 403.14 calling me that the content ist not browseable. This also occurs when i deploy the unchanged mvc 4 template. when using the mvc 4 template with .net 4.0 everything works. I checked the other posts but can't figure out the solution. ist set i ran aspnet_regiss -i which completed without any errors. the only strange thing is that .net 4.5 is installed in the .net 4.0 directory %windows%/microsoft.net/Framework64/4.0.30319 From this folder i also ran aspnet_regiis. to ensure that 4.5 is installed i restarted the .net 4.5 setup and it tells me taht it is installes Also the apppools show me 4.0.30319 as version. There is an other application targeting mvc with 4.5 which runs. but i don't know wether it was created with a 4.0 templated and retargeted to 4.5 Any hints? The app.config is the unchanged default from the mvc 4 template. I just tested to create a subfolder which i convert to an application. placing the site there makes it working. But why not on root folder?

Of course I can cache all the results, but this becomes a storage concern with large gmail boxes and also would be very slow (I can only imagine how long it would take to search through gigabytes of text...). So my question is, is there a way of searching through mail on the server, a la gmail's search field? Maybe through Microsoft Exchange? Hours of Googling has turned up nothing.

• Batch Image compression tool for optimizing thousands of images

  Hi all, I'm maintaining a site that has thousands of images that have not been compressed nearly enough. The homepage weighs in at 1.5 Mb currently, and it could easily be way less that half that. I'm looking for some kind of tool that'll take a folder full of JPG pictures and will recompress them to their "optimal" compression value. Obviously, "optimal lossy compression setting" is an oxymoron, but I'm thinking maybe a tool that'll try different levels and compare the outputs to the input, and choose a "sweet spot" between size and destruction? Or even try whether PNG is a better option, many times it is, for "drawing" type stuff. Does anyone of you know any such tool? I'd have lots of fun coding one, but I bet someone already did and will save me 2 days. Alternatively, of course, anything that'll take all pictures in a folder and recompress them with a fixed quality level (say, 40) will also work, it'll just not make my inner nerd as happy, but it'll solve my problem just fine. (Ideally something that can run on Windows, ideally from the command line) Thank you!

  Hi, We're having trouble getting Forms Authentication to work with a virtual directory in IIS. We have a main site, and then a microsite setup within a virtual directory. This mircosite has its own admin system within an "Admin" folder, which has authentication on it but currently it is not kicking in and the admin section is browsable by anyone. The web.config with the admin folder has the following: <?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration> <appSettings/> <connectionStrings/> <system.web> <authorization> <deny users="?"/> </authorization> <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="~/Admin/Error.aspx"/> </system.web> </configuration> Could anyone give me any clues as to why this might not be working? • problems with Console.SetOut in Release Mode?

  i have a bunch of Console.WriteLines in my code that I can observe at runtime. I communicate with a native library that I also wrote. I'd like to stick some printf's in the native library and observe them too. I don't see them at runtime however. I've created a convoluted hello world app to demonstrate my problem. When the app runs, I can debug into the native library and see that the hello world is called. The output never lands in the textwriter though. Note that if the same code is run as a console app then everything works fine. I removed the native call in the above button1_click method and just replaced it with a standard Console.WriteLine .net call. When I compiled and ran this in debug mode the messages were redirected to the output file. When I switched to release mode however the calls weren't redirected. Console redirection only seems to work in debug mode. How do I get around this?

• Host Primary Domain from a subfolder

  I am having a problem making a sub directory act as the public_html for my main domain, and getting a solution that works with that domains sub directories too. My hosting allows me to host multiple sites, which are all working great. I have set up a subfolder under my ~/public_html/ directory called /domains/, where I create a folder for each separate website. e.g. public_html domains websiteone websitetwo websitethree ... This keeps my sites nice and tidy. The only issue was getting my "main domain" to fit into this system. It seems my main domain, is somehow tied to my account (or to Apache, or something), so I can't change the "document root" of this domain. I can define the document roots for any other domains ("Addon Domains") that I add in cPanel no problem. But the main domain is different. I was told to edit the .htaccess file, to redirect the main domain to a subdirectory. This seemed to work great, and my site works fine on it's home/index page. The problem I'm having is that if I try to navigate my browser to say the images folder (just for example) of my main site, like this: www.yourmaindomain.com/images/ then it seems to ignore the redirect and shows the entire server directory in the url, like this: www.yourmaindomain.com/domains/yourmaindomain/images/ It still actually shows the correct "Index of /images" page, and show the list of all my images. Here is an example of my .htaccess file that I am using: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?yourmaindomain.com$ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/domains/yourmaindomain/ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /domains/yourmaindomain/$1 RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?yourmaindomain.com$ RewriteRule ^(/)?$ domains/yourmaindomain/index.html [L] Does this htaccess file look correct? I just need to make it so my main domain behaves like an addon domain, and it's subdirectories adhere to the redirect rules.

• Two way sync with rsync

  I have a folder a/ and a remote folder A/. I now run something like this on a Makefile: get-music: rsync -avzru server:/media/10001/music/ /media/Incoming/music/ put-music: rsync -avzru /media/Incoming/music/ server:/media/10001/music/ sync-music: get-music put-music when I make sync-music, it first gets all the diffs from server to local and then the opposite, sending all the diffs from local to server. This works very well only if there are just updates or new files on the future. If there are deletions, it doesn't do anything. In rsync there is --delete and --delete-after options to help accomplish what I want but thing is, it doesn't work on a 2-way-sync. If I want to delete server files on a syn, when local files have been deleted, it works, but if, for some reason (explained after) I have some files that aren't in the server but exist locally and they were deleted, I want locally to remove them and not server copied (as it happens). Thing is I have 3 machines in context: desktop notebook home-server So, sometimes, server will have files that were deleted with a notebook sync, for example and then, when I run a sync with my desktop (where the deleted server files still exist on) I want these files to be deleted and not to be copied again to the server. I guess this is only possible with a database and track of operations :P Any simple solutions? Thank you.

• Bug: files uploaded via desktop or web client have hidden tag when listed via API

  Files uploaded to Google Drive sometimes incorrectly have a hidden tag when listed via the Document List v3 REST API: <category scheme='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005/labels' term='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005/labels#hidden' label='hidden'/> This happens if: a subfolder is created via the Google Drive desktop client and files are copied in, or a folder is uploaded via the Google Drive web client. The folder does not have the hidden tag, but the files that were uploaded do. The files do not have this tag if: they are individually uploaded via the Google Drive web client to the subfolder, or they are uploaded via the REST API to the subfolder, or they are uploaded via the desktop client to the My Drive root. The files and folders show up in Google Drive whether they have the hidden tag or not. We're using the API with the following scope: https://docs.google.com/feeds/ https://spreadsheets.google.com/feeds/ https://docs.googleusercontent.com/ I have verified and can recreate this with the OAuth 2.0 playground. Google Drive desktop client version 1.3.3209.2600 on Win7 32-bit I guess these must be bugs in the API...

• IHttpModule not being applied to virtual directory

  I have a network folder that is mapped to my iis app as a virtual directory and I'm trying to do some authentication for files that are located there with an ihttpmodule. I've verified that the ihttpmodule is firing properly for anything else in my app, just not the files located in virtual directory. Most of what I've found is that the directory can't be listed as an application (which it isn't), and everything should work. The other solution that I found was to add the the module tag to the tag, but that didn't seem to help either. Everything that I've found talks about stopping this from happening. So my question is what could be set that is causing this to not work? Is there a certain execute permission that needs to be set? Any other iis settings that could cause this? It is an mvc app, and this is how my directory structure is laid out: server/app <- my application folder server/app/content/downloads <- downloads is the virtual directory Do I have to add the virtual directory directly under my app directory? Is that part of the problem? I don't have direct control of the server my code is running on, so testing things out is a bit of a pain... so I was looking for some more thoughts before starting to send emails off to my operations people.   Hi there I have a web-project running in VS 2008. We have some global resource files (*.resx) in the App_GlobalResources folder for internationalisation. All this works like a charm on my local IIS installation out of VS. But when I publish my web-project to the local filesystem and/or another server, all the resources can no longer be found. So I guess the pre-compilation is somehow corrupting stuff. When I call the pre-compiled web, I get an error that the resource object with key xyz cannot be found, although it could be found before. I checked with .NET reflector if the resource stuff made it into the *.dlls. All those identifiers are there (bin/Web.dll, bin/<culture>/Web.resources.dll). The identifiers are loaded like this: <asp:MenuItem NavigateUrl="~/OrderNew.aspx" Text="<%$ Resources:MyProject, MenuNewOrder %>" Value="NewOrder"> The resource files are called MyProject.resx and MyProject.<culture>.resx where <culture> corresponds the the specific culture (i.e. MyProject.de-DE.resx). Any ideas how to solve this? I really appreciate any help. Thanks Edit: If I copy the App_GlobalResources folder manually to the output, the resources may be loaded normally. So I really really wonder what this pre-compilation is all about. I'm still interested in solving the issue "the right way".

• NSString writeToFile operation couldn't be completed

  Hey, I have an xml file in my application bundle. I want to copy it to the documents folder at installation and then, every time the app launches, get the newest version of this file from the Internet. I checked the value of results and it's correct. I also made sure that the app does perform the writeToString command, but still, it always returns NO. Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong? • Opening a pdf in .NET

  In the application we are working on we are trying to implement Help. We have a help pdf document and for the moment it has been deemed acceptable that when users click the help button it just opens the pdf. The application is a desktop app and the pdf file needs to be included in the install somehow and installed on the local machine. I essentially need two things: How would I add this pdf to the application so that it is available on the client machine after install? I can either put it in the resources of the project, or else I could put it in the Application Folder of the client setup installer. How would I open this pdf? I can either open this pdf by just launching the default pdf viewer for the file, or I can use the System.WinForms.WebBrowser tool to display it. However if I choose the second option, I am unsure of how to access the file stored in the resources or find it in the install folder. If you could please provide me with the code to do this (either in VB.Net or C#.Net) that would be great.

ImageSource="../Resources/BrowseFolder.bmp"/> But if i take a simple image it gets displayed if same source is specified. Can anyone tell me what shall be done?
