    You've seen it done on sites like basecamphq.com where you would have username.basecamphq.com I'm wanting to do a similar thing, any subdomain is routed through to the same index.php file. so username1.example.com will request /home/some/path/to/www (in here is index.php) and username2.example.com will request the same file I have it working locally, but my server uses cPanel. What would be your guess at the apache conifguration?

    I've got a zen slice running Ubuntu. I set the thing up as root and had "normal" bash and vim profiles, however the new users I've created for myself and others have no profiles. I've tried copying the profiles from root to my user's home directories, but still don't have color or even machine name\login at the prompt. How do I get the options transferred?

    Hi I am beginner for SSH stuff but i want to dump a big sql file and for that i need to be able to navigate to the appropriate path in my hosting account. I managed to login to SSH and i typed pwdbut it gave me a shared hosting pathway like /home/content/r/o/s/roshanjonah How Can i go to the path where i upload my files to...i use FTP but in FTP path it just shows / so i cannot go any further back than that...so using SSH how can i come to this path in ftp...     I have read this tutorial to and added this command in the file vmrun start /media/VM/WindowXP/Windows XP Professional.vmx I have also added one more line echo "hello" >> /home/abc/test.txt to check if script is runinng or not. When i restart the ubuntu , then virtual machine does not start. But there are two "hello" in that text file I don't know why two hellos but vm is not starting

    Trying to view a javascript file on my home server I get the following error: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /jquery-1.8.2.js on this server. Apache/2.2.22 (Fedora) Server at 192.168.1.3 Port 80 I have given all users access to the file like this: sudo chmod -R 777 /var/www/html/jquery-1.8.2.js I have even gone as far as changing the user & group properties in the httpd.conf file.

    From what I understand, the noarch suffix means that it's architecture independent and should work universally. If this is the case, why should I install architecture-specific packages at all? Why not just go straight for the noarch? Are there optimizations in the x86 or x64 binaries that aren't found in the noarch binaries? What's best for high performance applications?   • how to broadcast a PXE server like Trinity Rescue Kit

    I would like to set up a portable PXE server for diagnostic purposes. The issue is that I won't always have access to the DHCP server, or the router itself (sometimes a home router) doesn't have an easily accessible place to set the servername/file for broadcast. I know that Trinity Rescue Kit is able to broadcast its PXE server without its own DHCP server. Can anyone point me in the direction to set this up on my own (without Trinity)? Thanks.

    I have Lighttpd on Centos 5 with Fcgi and Memcached. Periodically, once per week or two i get internal server error 500 and i must manually restart lighttpd to get it to work again. In my lighttpd config I've defined error log file: server.errorlog = "/home/lxadmin/httpd/lighttpd/error.log" But when I open it, it has no rows for last days, only one month ago. So my question is how to diagnose what is the issue and how to enable error log for my configuration?

  • Will Windows fail activation on a new hard drive after previous hard drive failed

    I have a failing hard drive which won't boot, that has Windows 7 Home Premium installed. I have a replacement hard drive on the way. My question is will I run into problems trying to install Windows 7 using the same cdkey and DVD on the new hard drive? I assume activation will find that the cdkey has already been activated and fail, especially if a hardware ID is checked which will probably be different because even though the other hardware is the same, the hard drive will be different.

  • Win 7 Wireless Connected With Good Signal But No Internet Access

    In Windows 7 I was connected wirelessly for about a week when one day I came home and the wireless was connected with a strong signal but it said that I had "No Internet Access" It's been 3 days since then now and I have yet to find a way to fix it.   • Rsync: windows 7, synology: login error and permission denied error

    Good day to all of you all, I'm running into strange/stupid errors, and I hope anybody would be so kind to help me out. I have to admit, I am by no means a guru, so please bear with me :-) Situation: -Synology NAS (runs Linux), and Windows 7 desktop (1 normal/restricted user Lisa and 1 admin user). - Data from W7 desktop to be rsynced to synology: /volume1/home/Lisa/Backup - Rsync command: c:\cygwin\bin\rsync -avz /cygdrive/e/Lisa/ [email protected]:/volume1/homes/Lisa/Backup - I've set up ssh per these two threads: a. http://www.cesareriva.com/archives/102 b. http://www.cesareriva.com/archives/112 Now the horrors begin: - root is allowed to run the rsync succesfully, however, he doesn't login automatically (so I can not use rsync in W7 batchscripts, which is of course required). - Lisa is allowed to login automatically but he can not succesfully finish the rsync command because of permission errors: rsync change dir /volume1/homes/Lisa/Backup failed: permissions denied. This happens for each and every file and subdir rsync tries to create. However, the main directory (Backup) is created. When I try to copy files from windows explorer to the directory 'Backup' using the very same user Lisa everything goes smoothly. So, obviously, there is a permission problem somewhere; either my rsync-command isn't correct, or the folder permissions for homes/Lisa aren't correct (but, then again, Windows 7 copies files to that folder without any problems, so that does make me believe the homes/Lisa-permissions don't appear to be the problem). I also tried adding: --chmod=Dugo+x --chmod=ugo+r which I found somewhere on the web, to the rsync-command, but this didn't solve any problem and gave the exact errors. Would anybody please please help me on how to fix this? I am utterly frustrated about this, because I have been trying for 1 month to get everything to work and it simply doesn't work. I bought the big Synology to end the horrors of 20 external USB-disks for once and for all (we have many pictures and home vids of our deceased dogs and want to watch these, the horrors being 'what material is on what disk'). I'll gladly return the favour of somebody helping me out by buying you a nice beer (paypal), if you could end my misery. I am not extremely skilled on Linux (not at all :-( ) so if you could give an extra word when possible so I understand what to do, I'd be very grateful.   • Where is a good permanent place to install custom bash scripts?

    I'm about to install "leiningen" which is a bash script for the clojure programming language with a lot of usefulness... ...but I'm not sure where it is appropriate to -put- a executable script in the linux system so that it's permanently and stable-ly available. I don't think that anywhere in /home makes sense, but I don't know which directory/directories are supposed to be used for that. /usr/share?
