  • Possible reasons and resolutions for time out

    - by ming yeow
I cannot SSH into my instance - Operation timed out. What could be the reasons why, and what can I do to resolve it? Rebooting normally takes a long time to take effect, and might just makes things worst UPDATE: It is not about permissions - i can log in normally just fine. I suspect it might be because of memory issues

  • C# BestPractice: Private var and Public Getter/Setter or Public Var

    - by Desiny
What are the advantages and differences between the below two coding styles... public void HelloWorld () { private string _hello; public string Hello { get { return _hello; } set { _hello = value; } } } or public void HelloWorld () { public string Hello { get; set; } } My preference is for short simple code, but interested to hear opinions as I see many developers who insist on the long route.

  • is this aes encryption wrapper safe ? - yet another take...

    - by user393087
After taking into accound answers for my questions here and here I created (well may-be) improved version of my wrapper. The key issue was what if an attacker is knowing what is encoded - he might then find the key and encode another messages. So I added XOR before encryption. I also in this version prepend IV to the data as was suggested. sha256 on key is only for making sure the key is as long as needed for the aes alg, but I know that key should not be plain text but calculated with many iterations to prevent dictionary attack function aes192ctr_en($data,$key) { $iv = mcrypt_create_iv(24,MCRYPT_DEV_URANDOM); $xor = mcrypt_create_iv(24,MCRYPT_DEV_URANDOM); $key = hash_hmac('sha256',$key,$iv,true); $data = $xor.((string)$data ^ (string)str_repeat($xor,(strlen($data)/24)+1)); $data = hash('md5',$data,true).$data; return $iv.mcrypt_encrypt('rijndael-192',$key,$data,'ctr',$iv); } function aes192ctr_de($data,$key) { $iv = substr($data,0,24); $data = substr($data,24); $key = hash_hmac('sha256',$key,$iv,true); $data = mcrypt_decrypt('rijndael-192',$key,$data,'ctr',$iv); $md5 = substr($data,0,16); $data = substr($data,16); if (hash('md5',$data,true)!==$md5) return false; $xor = substr($data,0,24); $data = substr($data,24); $data = ((string)$data ^ (string)str_repeat($xor,(strlen($data)/24)+1)); return $data; } $encrypted = aes192ctr_en('secret text','password'); echo $encrypted; echo aes192ctr_de($encrypted,'password'); another question is if ctr mode is ok in this context, would it be better if I use cbc mode ? Again, by safe I mean if an attacter could guess password if he knows exact text that was encrypted and knows above method. I assume random and long password here. Maybe instead of XOR will be safer to random initial data with another run of aes or other simpler alg like TEA or trivium ?

  • wait t time before launch an action ?

    - by Nanis
Hi, I actually had a multiautocompletetextview, where i call host after 3 characters to have a dynamic search list. But if the user put others characters, my code call host for each of them. So it must be very long. Could I wait a moment (about 500 ms) before launching the action , in order to look if user do an action or not ? that's possible ?

  • Using the same variable across multiple files in C++

    - by Sam152
In the process of changing some code, I have spilt some functions into multiple files. I have the files controls.cpp and display.cpp and I would like to be able to have access to the same set of variables in both files. I don't mind where they are initialized or declared, as long as the functions in both files can use them. This was not an issue when the functions were in the same file, but now it seems almost impossible after an hour of googling and trying various things.

  • What font do you use for your code editor?

    - by Harmen
For a long time I used Courier New as default font for my code editor, until I got more into typography and found this new fixed-width font called Triskweline: The font is beautiful, but unfortunately it works only at size 10pt. This made me wonder: what (custom) font do you use for your code editor?

  • Getting default value for java primitive types

    - by ripper234
I have a java primitive type at hand: Class c = int.class; // or long.class, or boolean.class I'd like to get a 'default value' for this class - specifically the value is assigned to fields of this type if they are not initialized. E.g., '0' for a number, 'false' for a boolean. Is there a generic way to do this? I tried c.newInstance() But I'm getting an InstantiationException, and not a default instance.

How do i modifiy this regular expression to capture words containing ONLY the letters in computer (with a length of 3 to 8)?

    - by Undgerman
I am trying to make a ranking manager for a small project. The totals are stored in the database.I can easily get the max and min using mysql and also arrange the records descending. The problem comes in when there is a tie.I need to show a tie in the form:1,2,3,3,4,5,6,7,7,7,7, etc.The repeated numbers will show the ties.I have been thinking of ways of achieving the above but i need more ideas;mine is seems long and complicated. Can anybody share his/her idea of doing the ties.

  • How do I use the Google Maps API GPS sensor?

    - by renegadeofunk
All I've been able to find is how to specify the sensor parameter: http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/v3/#SpecifyingSensor But nowhere does it say how to actually USE it. Isn't the whole point to be able to get the user's current lat/long coordinates through the device GPS, or am I mistaken?

  • CSS Unwanted padding in IE using floats.

    - by user564176
It's been a long day of designing and I ran into a problem today. The website www.dcninc.com/newtest/security_testing.php is a new design I'm working on at work right now. If you view it in Firefox you will notice there is no padding on the 2 right boxes (I did that on purpose to trouble shoot my problem) However if you view that same page in IE, it adds padding to the right side. Here is my CSS and HTML below. http://pastebin.com/hRxZp9ub http://pastebin.com/YwSYn7ti

  • C++ finding pointer errors

    - by Tony
Hello! I am currently on a project which has been buggy for a long while, now I suspect, among other things, that there is pointer errors in the code. The program is written in native C++ using COM and uses out-of-process COM servers. Can anybody give me some tips as how one would go about finding these errors? Is there specific things to keep in mind, ways to do it, etc...

  • how to get around the command line length limit

    - by Crash893
I've been working on a small and simple program that i drop files onto and based on certian rules they are moved to diffrent places. the program works fine unless i drop more than a few files on the program then it kicks back an error (that appears to be more windows than anything) that the start up command c:\myapp.exe \file \file \file is to long I realize i could set up a background proccess but i really would prefer that this program not run in the backround (where it would be idle 99.999999999% of the time) Can anyone think of any way around this limitation?

  • MySQL: SUM in WHERE clause

    - by checcco
Hi guys, I've got this table CREATE TABLE `subevents` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `title` varchar(150) DEFAULT NULL, `content` text, `class` tinyint(4) NOT NULL DEFAULT '1', PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM Each row can have a different value in the 'class' field. I'd like to select any number of rows, ordered randomly, as long as the sum of the values in the 'class' field is equal to 100. How could I accomplish it directly in the MySQL query without doing it later in PHP? Thanks everybody!
