• Linux Mint does not start after renaming home directory

  I am new to linux and was just trying to rename the only directory in home from rk to rhk. I messed up the whole thing and the settings. Created some new thing named rhk which I can't remember as it got all messed up and Now I am getting nothing after Linux Mint 10(julia) boots up - no start menu, no panel, no taskbar nothing. I tried to work in the recovery mode and got some(downloaded) 216mb of something(in the repair broken packages) hoping that it might help but didn't help. Moreover whenver I have booted in it shows messages like Could not update ICEauthority file /home/rk./.ICEauthority there is a problem with the configuration server. (usr/lib/libconfig24/gconfsanitycheck2 exited with status 256) The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID: GNOME_mintMenu" The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID: GNOME_IndicatorApplet" Naulitis could not create the following reqiured folders: /home/rk/Desktop, /home/rk/. Naulitis Moreover Alt+F2 gives Run application or run with file and nothing seems to be working.

How can I tell the virtual host not to serve requests for URLs other than the top-level one?

• windows 7 sound stopped working out of nowhere

  hi, i have had windows 7 installed for a few months, working fine with soundblaster xi around 7p was watching youtube videos with sound went and made dinner around 9p came back, realized there was no sound coming out of speakers, even though windows mixer shows sound output restarted, no sound uninstalled driver, restarted had windows search for driver, it installed, windows mixer showed sound bar moving while playing an mp3 but couldn't hear i've tested with speakers plugged into soundblaster, as well as headphones plugged into the audio port on the front of my computer. what could have happened? what could the solution be?   I have extended the space of my SAN vDisk from 1TB to 1.2TB, but Windows Explorer doesn't show the new size. After resize the vdisk in the SAN Manager, the Disk Management utility shows the 200GB unallocated space, then I resized the partition to use the unallocated space to get a 1.2TB partition, the process was succesfully, but in the Windows File Explorer the disk still have 1TB of total space. Win version: Windows Storage Server Enterprise 2007. Do I need to restart the server? How can I use the new extra space without rebooting?

• How to communicate within a company what is being Continually Deployed

  I work for a small development company, 20 people total in the entire company, 3 in actual development, and we've adopted CD for our commits to trunk, and it works great, from a code management and up-time side. However - we're getting flak from our support staff and marketing department that they don't feel that they're getting enough lead time on new features and notifications on bug fixes that could change behavior. Part of why we love the CD system is for us in development, it's fast, we fix the bug, add the quick feature, close the Bugz and move on with our day to the next item. All members of our company are now on HipChat at all times, and when a deployment occurs, a message is sent to a room that all company members are in, letting them know what was just deployed (it just shows the commit messages from tip back to the last recorded deployment). We in development are also attempting to make sure that when we're making a change that modifies the UI or a public facing behavior, we post a screenshot to the All Company room and explain what the behavior change is, seeking pushback or concerns. Often, the response is silence. Sometimes, it's a few minor questions, but nothing that need stop the deployment from happening. What I'm wondering is how do other users of the CD method deal with notifications of new features and changes to areas of the company that are not development - and eventually on to customers in the world? • Why would image thumbnails not be showing in all search engines in all browsers?

  For over a week now, when I search for a word at Google, it correctly gives me some preview image thumbnails: But when I click on "images", it doesn't show me any thumbnails: The same thing happens at Bing.com, when I search Bing itself it gives me some thumbnails on the general search result page: But when I click on "images", it doesn't show me any thumbnails: The same thing happens at Yahoo: If I click on one of the broken thumbnails, it shows me the picture fine: Thumbnails at youtube also work fine: It seems each search engine is hanging on different URLs as shown above: t1.gstatic.com ts3.mm.bing.net thm-a02.yimg.com so it doesn't seem to be the problem of one specific URL not sending thumbnails, it is just a problem with search engine image thumbnails in general. Also, this happens in every browser I try: Explorer, Firefox, Chrome. What could be the problem? Is it my computer, some setting somewhere, my router, my Internet provider (T-Online, Germany)? Has anyone ever had this problem and solved it?

  I want to create a voip service. I have installed asterisk-1.4 on a dedicated remotely hosted debian lenny distro. I made a sip.conf and extensions.conf so as to place a call between two sip phones(i am using xlite 3.0) installed in some other Windows PC. Whenever i switch this phones the asterisk console shows that Registration from '"1000"<sip:[email protected]>' failed for '122.168.10.254' - Peer is not supposed to register Where xx.xx.xx.xx is the server's IP. i.e my sip phones are unable to register with the asterisk server. • Can not change to a static IP in Fedora 19

  Im having a bit of a weird situation. Ive installed Fedora Linux 19 onto a virtual machine with no GUI. initially eth0 does not show up when I perform ifconfig. when I run dmesg | grep eth I see the adapter but it says it changed names to p2p1. Once I perform the ifconfig p2p1 up command it shows up. Now when I try to edit the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-p2p1, it does not exist. the only scripts that are there lo and enp0s3. If I try to create the ifcfg-p2p1 file with the correct settings, I can not restart the network service. I tried editing the enp0s3 file, but that did not work. Im fairly new to linux and not sure what else to put in here, so if you need any more information just let me know and Ill put it in here.

• Microphone - static background noise suppression

  My soundcard is Realtek ALC 892. On Windows 7 I use official Realtek drivers, on Linux I use PulseAudio (on Ubuntu 13.10). On both Windows and Linux, when I enable microphone boost +30db (required because my microphone is quiet), I get very annoying and loud background noise (I also confirmed the background noise with Audacity on both systems). However, Windows Realtek drivers have noise suppression option which works (after enabling it, Audacity shows no background noise and my ears also confirm that there is no background noise). My question is how can I enable background noise suppression in ALSA/PulseAudio? Is there any module I can install or maybe there is a setting for it that can be enabled in config file? I can't find solution for it and this is the only thing that prevents me from switching to Linux completely - as I talk using microphone a lot and on Windows the Realtek software removes the background noise completely and PulseAudio doesn't remove it, which means the recorded voice on Linux is very bad. I know I could buy better soundcard and microphone, but as I said, Windows Realtek drivers remove the noise on software level in real time (ie no noise when talking on TeamSpeak3/Steam/whatever voip programme) so I hope that there is such option on Linux as well. • Windows Security Center Service is missing

  I am trying to fix a Windows 7 machine here that has been infected with all kinds of Malware. I have removed all of them as far as I can see but I am stumped by one last task. One little bugger managed to remove the Windows Security Center service from the list of Windows services. So I cannot start it or set to automatically start. At the moment I cannot get the Windows firewall to turn on or any anti-virus software. The security center shows the following image when I try: Does anyone know how to add this back to the list of services so I may set it to start.   I need to write a parent Java class that classes using recursion can extend. The parent class will be be able to realize whenever the call stack changes ( you enter a method, temporarily leave it to go to another method call, or you are are finsihed with the method ) and then print it out. I want it to print on the console, but clear the console as well every time so it shows the stack horizantaly so you can see the height of each stack to see what popped off and what popped on... Also print out if a baseline was reached for recursive functions. First. How can I using the StackTraceElements and Thread classes to detect automatically whenever the stack has popped or pushed an element on without calling it manually? Second, how would I do the clearing thing? For instance , if I had the code: public class recursion(int i) { private static void recursion(int i) { if( i < 10) System.out.println('A'); else { recursion(i / 10 ); System.out.println('B'); } } public static void main(String[] argv) { recursion(102); } } It would need to print out the stack when entering main(), when entering recursion(102) from main(), when it enters recursion(102 / 10), which is recursion(10), from recursion(102), when it enters recursion(10 / 10), which is recursion(1) from recursion(10). Print out a message out when it reaches the baseline recursion(1).. then print out the stacks of reversed revisitation of function recursion(10), recursion(102) and main(). finally print out we are exiting main().

• Apache, Django with mod_wsgi, and large request buffering

  In my setup of Apache 2.2 MPM worker and Django 1.3 with mod_wsgi 2.8, I need to support large POST request payloads. The problem is that when there are many such simultaneous requests, Apache uses up all the memory in the system and then crashes. It seems that Apache is buffering the requests completely in memory before executing the WSGI handler and passing it the request. Is there any way to control request buffering in Apache? • SQL Azure Service Issues &ndash; 10.27.2012 (Restored Now)

  Please note that if you have a Windows Azure website, or use SQL Azure, your site may be experiencing downtime currently.  Notice I just called in regarding one of my public facing internet sites, because the site was failing to load anything but its error page, I couldn’t connect to the database to inspect application error logs, and the Windows Azure Management portal won’t load the SQL Azure extension. After speaking to the representative, he also mentioned that they were also having some problems updating the Service Dashboard which shows service up/down time, and for now, they are posting messages at http://account.windowsazure.com.  Please note that this issue may only be effecting certain regions.  Last, I may have misheard the representative, but he said that the outage was being categorized as a level 8, and if I heard correctly, I think he said that level 8 was the worst level.  I can’t say for sure on this though, because the phone connection to their support number was bad – large amounts of white noise. Good Luck! Update It appears that this outage may also be effecting the following services: SQL Database, Service Bus, Datamarket, Windows Azure Marketplace, Shared Caching, Access Control 2.0, and SQL Reporting. The note on the account page says for the South Central US region, however, I believe the representative I spoke to also mentioned North Central. As I said before though, the connection was bad. Update 2 My site regained connectivity about an hour ago, and it appears that the service dashboard is back in operation with correct status and history. It does appear that I misheard on the phone regarding multiple regions, so chances are this only effected a percentage of the platform. All in all, if this WAS their worst level of a problem, they really got it fixed and back up pretty fast. All in all, I understand that it is inherent for a complex system such as Azure to have ups and downs, but at the end of the day, I am still happy to support Azure to its fullest!

• Excel 2010 filter arrow not showing text values

  I have an odd problem on a tracker spreadsheet I use. All the columns have a filter, but when you click on the filter arrow it doesn't show you a breakdown of all the text values for that column. All it shows is the usual 'sort A to Z/Z to A', but the bottom half of the pop-up screen is blank, where normally you have a list of text values that you can further filter by putting a tick next to each. It only displays (Select All) which you can tick, but its pointless as the column has selected all text values and hasn't been further filtered, which is what I need to do.

• On Windows 7, the last access date is not changed even after reading the file?

  I have some files on Windows 7, and want to see what time it was that I read it this morning (February 27 morning), but when I right click on the file and choose Properties, I see Accessed: Yesterday, Feb 26, 2011, 2:12:37PM so I open the file to read the content again, and then open up the Properties again, and still the Accessed (date) is the same (Feb 26). Even if I add a column to the folder for "Date Accessed", it still shows Feb 26. But today is Feb 27 and clearly I have "accessed" it... so how can I see the true last accessed date?

  I'm trying to draw currency symbols in an Arial Spritefont. According to thissite, the font contains these symbols. I've included the Unicode character region for these symbols in the Content Processor SpriteFont file, like so: <CharacterRegions> <CharacterRegion> <Start>&#32;</Start> <End>&#126;</End> </CharacterRegion> <CharacterRegion> <!-- Currency symbols --> <Start>&#8352;</Start> <End>&#8378;</End> </CharacterRegion> </CharacterRegions> However, whenever I try to draw a € (Euro) symbol, I get this exception: Text contains characters that cannot be resolved by this SpriteFont Inspecting the SpriteFont in the IDE at that breakpoint shows the € symbol is in there. I'm at a loss at what could be wrong. Why is this exception thrown?

• Atheros wireless not working

  I have been struggling hard since i have installed Ubuntu 10.10 but it has been difficult for me to get my wifi working. So here is what i tried. First i checked whether i have the driver using the ifconfig command and it shows the wireless lan driver as wlan0. Next, i tried the command iwlist wlan0 scanning by becoming the root which gave me the output as no scan results. Next, i visited this link https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/Atheros to see as to what problem my laptop may have. I do own have an ath5k chipset. And as i followed the instructions in the above link in one of the blacklist-ath_pci.conf file had this written in it. For some Atheros 5K RF MACs, the madwifi driver loads buts fails to correctly initialize the hardware, leaving it in a state from which ath5k cannot recover. To prevent this condition, stop madwifi from loading by default. Use Jockey to select one driver or the other. (Ubuntu: #315056, #323830 I am not that good at Linux but i have given it a try. I am desperate to have my wifi working and i would be glad if this community could help.   In gmail can we make is:unread the default view? That is, when we load gmail can we configure it so that is:unread is already selected, thereby showing only unread messages by default? Or can we at least configure gmail so that it has a 1 click link that only shows unread mail? The reason for this of course is that it is slow and inefficient to have to type is:unread into the gmail search every time I open it. It would be much more convenient for gmail to load this view by itself when I open gmail.

• How to fully use the 4G in my Laptop under Ubuntu 9.10 - 32-bit

  I have a Toshiba A100, which I upgraded to 4G of RAM. The hardware startup indeed shows 4G of RAM, and I recently installed Windows 7, just to see how it behaves on it. So far so good, it displays 4G of RAM. Not that I tried to use it all, but it displays it. Previously under XP, I also would see 4G of RAM. But under Ubuntu 9.10 (32 or 64 bits), it only displays 2.9 G of RAM. And my kernel is the "pae" compiled one, which is supposed to do the trick to work around the 32-bit CPU limitation. How can I get Ubuntu to fully use my 4G of RAM ?

• Google Fonts API JSON Data in WordPress Options-Framework-Theme

  I'm developing a child-theme off of the new Twenty Twelve theme using Wordpress 3.4.2 and the development version of the Options Theme Framework by Devin Price. In Devin's tutorial, it shows of a way to implement 15 Google Web Fonts into the Theme Options page, but not all of them (roughly 560). I know I can create a "manual list", like in the tutorial that states each one with fallbacks, but this is time consuming and unproductive as Google may or may not add to, update, change or remove some of these fonts from their list. The list I've created above will ultimately store unavailable fonts the user thinks is there because of what they can see in the drop-down menu and it won't have any new ones - making the list and some selections obsolete. On the Google Developer API Web Fonts page, it talks briefly on retrieving a "dynamic list" using JSON/JavaScript. I was wondering how would I be able to pull the Google Web Fonts API into my Wordpress Theme Options page so I'm not creating my own list or have to constantly release an update to solve this issue. Could someone please walk me through what I would need to paste into my options.php, functions.php, /inc/options-framework.php file etc. or even in a new one to implement this? I've also had a look into some screencasts, plugins and tutorials on how it works, but none of them are specific enough for people just starting out. Please keep in mind I'm not the best coder... • Cyrus: How Do I Configure saslauthd For Authentication?

  I'm trying to get Cyrus IMAP (v 2.2 on Ubuntu 9.04) setup and working, but I'm having a bit of trouble getting the login working correctly. I've created a mailbox for my test user "nrahl": cm user/nrahl and then created a password: $ saslpasswd2 nrahl I'm attempting to connect to the mailbox using Thunderbird. I'm using the machine's LAN IP address as the host, and "nrahl" as the username. It connects to the server and prompts me for the password. When I enter it, I get "Login to server failed." in Thunderbird, and /var/log/mail.log shows: Apr 15 19:20:01 IMAP cyrus/imap[1930]: accepted connection Apr 15 19:20:09 IMAP cyrus/imap[1930]: badlogin: [192.168.5.21] plaintext nrahl SASL(-13): authentication failure: checkpass failed Part of /etc/imapd.conf with comments removed: sieveusehomedir: false sievedir: /var/spool/sieve #mailnotifier: zephyr #sievenotifier: zephyr #dracinterval: 0 #drachost: localhost hashimapspool: true allowplaintext: yes sasl_mech_list: PLAIN #allowapop: no #sasl_maximum_layer: 256 #loginrealms: example.com #virtdomains: userid #defaultdomain: sasl_pwcheck_method: saslauthd #sasl_auxprop_plugin: sasldb sasl_auto_transition: no UPDATE: When setting: sasl_pwcheck_method: alwaystrue in /etc/imapd.conf, login works correctly. So I'm assuming the issue is saslauthd related.
