  Hi, i am implementing a little Black Jack game in C# and i have the following problem calculating the player's hand value. the problem is Ace may have value of 1 or 11 so if the players has three cards and one Ace if the sum of the cards is <= 10 Ace will have value of 11(Sorry for who doesn't know the scope of the game is to reach 21 with the sum of the cards) Other way value of 1 Up to here is easy Now lets assume i do not know how many Aces the player has got and the game is implemented giving the possibility to the dealer to use more than one deck of cards. the user may have in one hand even 5,6,7,8 ... aces. What is the best way(possibly using Linq) to evaluate all the aces the player has got to get the closest combination to 21 (in addition tot he other cards)?   This may be a little hard to describe since I don't have a sample. I'm trying to find a math function or full 3d function in php or a similar language that can help me with the following effect: imagine if you were to take a flat sheet or paper and glue it on a glass of water. It wouldn't be flat any more. It would have a curve, and one of its sides might end up being slightly hidden. Anyone can refer me to a good library or resource on the web where such functions can be found?

• Currency Math in JavaScript

  Can someone please help me out with a JavaScript/jQuery solution for this arithmetic problem: I need to subtract one number from the other. The problem is that the numbers have a dollar sign (because its money), therefore jQuery is treating them as strings instead of numbers. I have created two variables - toalAssets and totalLiabilites. I would like to subtract the latter from the former and place the result into another variable called netWorth. Perhaps i need to use parseFloat()? But I'm not sure how - This is all a little over my head!

• Is using GET with a tokenID for security a good idea?

  I was thinking about this and it appears POST only a little less vulnerable and somewhat harder (do to requiring the user to click something). However i dislike the idea of putting the session id into the page for ppl to see. But really, is there a problem with that? short of having the user copy/pasting the html is there any attacks that can happen due to the session id being in plain view in html?

So how do I convert my array of UserInteractionProperties into an InArgument?

• How do you sort files numerically?

  Hello all, First off, I'm posting this because when I was looking for a solution to the problem below, I could not find one on stackoverflow. So, I'm hoping to add a little bit to the knowledge base here. I need to process some files in a directory and need the files to be sorted numerically. • How do I protect myself?

  I was poking around at my work computer this evening and was looking at my timesheets. I noticed that all my timesheets had variables in the URLs and I could figure out the numbering scheme for the pages. Then I got a little curious about SQL injection and thought of trying out adding simple SQL injections like "OR 1=1" etc. to see how protected we really were with our timesheet info. One of these strings yielded a friendly error page saying that an error email was sent to the developer. I am concerned that my ID, and request will be seen by the developer , immediately recognized as SQL injection and will be reported to network security officer as a malicious attempt by an employee to hack the timesheet dB. what is my defense? I am really worried.

  Hi, I need a little help with ClientDatasets in Delphi. What I want to achieve is a grid showing customers, where one of the columns shows the number of orders for each customer. I put a ClientDataset on a form and load Customers.xml from Delphi demo-data. Another ClienDataset is loaded with orders.xml. Relatively simple, I can define an aggregate on the orders CDS showing the total amount per customer (or the count). (See Cary Jensens article on this: http://edn.embarcadero.com/article/29272) The problem is getting this aggregate result from orders dataset into the customer dataset. It is kind of an reverse lookup, since there is a 1-n relationship between customers and orders, not an n-1 as normally in lookup scenarios. Any ideas ? Søren

  I've got a view in my app that does pretty much everything, and I like it that way. The problem however is that it's implementing 5 or 6 different delegates, which seems a little bit messy. My question is, does the view controller have to implement all of the delegates? or is there some way I can separate the code out into different files (without having to do a major restructure or rewrite)? • Database query optimization

  Ok my Giant friends once again I seek a little space in your shoulders :P Here is the issue, I have a python script that is fixing some database issues but it is taking way too long, the main update statement is this: cursor.execute("UPDATE jiveuser SET username = '%s' WHERE userid = %d" % (newName,userId)) That is getting called about 9500 times with different newName and userid pairs... Any suggestions on how to speed up the process? Maybe somehow a way where I can do all updates with just one query? Any help will be much appreciated! PS: Postgres is the db being used.

  Say I have assembly A. It was modified with Mono.Cecil a little bit. Now say I have assembly B. It has a class named SomeClass. Assembly A also has a class named SomeClass. Now I want to replace SomeClass from assembly A with the one in assembly B. I tried a few things, but I know that for one of my attempts, it actually remapped a method call like this: Console.WriteLine("Test."); ...into this: int.WriteLine("Test."); That can't be right. What is the correct way to replace a class with Mono.Cecil?

  I'm having a hard time understanding how the CakePHP admin system works. Should all controllers who has an action which requires login include AuthComponent or just the one who handles the login/logout? Let's say I want to protect the add action of a controller. First I create admin_add() in the controller and then in the beforeFilter() method I check if $this->Session->check('Auth.User') is set a redirect based on this? Turns out it was better to just controll this with $this->Auth->allow() What is the easiest way to return to the URL the user was trying to access? Is there a better way than setting a session variable? Turns out it does this automagically :) If someone has a good tutorial for this I would happily read it :) I've already read this tutorial but I found it to be a little to basic and the CakePHP-docs are not that great on this topic either.

  I need to store some data that looks a little like this: xyz 123 abc 456 hij 678 rer 838 Now I would just store it as a traditional string and integer model, and put in the datastore. But the data changes regularly, and is ONLY relevant when looked at as a COLLECTION. So it needs to be store as either a list of lists, or a list of objects, both of which can't really be done without pickling as far as I know. Can anyone help? Even storing it as a text file may work :S

• wxPython: Change a buttons text in a wx.FileDialog

  Hello I have a wx.FileDialog (with the wx.FD_OPEN flag) & I would like to know if I can (& how) I could change the button in the bottom right of the FileDialog from "Open" to "Create" or "Delete", etc. What I am doing is I have a button with the text "Delete Portfolio", when pressed it opens a FileDialog & allows the user to select a portfolio file(.db) to delete. So instead of the File Dialog's bottom right confirm button displaying "Open" I would like to be able to change the text to "Confirm" or "Delete" or whatever. Is this possible, its a rather superficial thing to do, but if the button says open when the user wants to select a file to delete, it can be a little confusing even if the title of the dialog says "please select a file to delete"

• Is there a DOS command for verifying what version of .NET is installed

  I have set of scripts for doing scripted installs. You can use the scripts on any server 2008 machine. However, I need to check if .NET 3.5 has been installed (before the scripts run) using a dos batch file. Is that possible? I know I can check if a file in the C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.5 exists, but it would be nice to have something a little more reliable. I would like to check if it's actually installed, not just if the dir/file exists. Hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance.

A quesion about RGB color and its usefulness in a simple tiny php code: Imagine I have variable $colorA containning a valid six char color. say B1B100, a greenish natural color. Now If I would like to make a new color from that, which is, say, ten steps lighter thatn that original color, roughly. $colorA = B1B100 // original color php code with little color engine lightening stuff up goes here $colorB = ?????? // original color lightened up Is there a php ready function that KNOWS rgb colors something like php function RGB ( input color, what to do, output color) Where what to do could be +/- 255 values of brightness etc etc. Is something like this already possible or am I day dreaming? rgb($colorA, +10, $colorB) If this does not exist, what would be the shortest code for doing this?   I'm working on an automatic trading system. What sorts of safe-guards should I have in place? The main idea I have is to have multiple pieces checking each other. I will have a second independent little process which will also connect to the same trading account and monitor simple things, like ensuring the total net position does not go over a certain limit, or that there are no more than N orders in 10 minutes for example, or more than M positions open simultaneously. You can also check that the actual open positions correspond to what the strategy process thinks it actually holds. As a bonus I could run this checker process on a different machine/network provider. Besides the checks in the main strategy, this will ensure that whatever weird bug occurs, nothing really bad can happen. Any other things I should monitor and be aware of?

  So there's this new cool thing, these NoSQL-databases. And so there's my data: Rows of rows of rows of meteorological data: Values, representing certain measurements at a certain station (Identified by a WMO number, not coordinates), at a certain time. Not every station measures every parameter, not every parameter is measured all the time. I store this data (30 years worth of hourly values, resulting in ~1 billion values) currently in MySQL. The continous growth and the forseeable addition of even more data give me a little headache. Reading about the document based NoSQL systems which seem to scale rather easily, I was wondering if NoSQL is a viable data storage concept for meteorological data too. Do you have any experience with this?
