  Am 14. Juni fand der Customer Experience Gipfel statt, der von Dialogum exklusiv für Oracle und seine Partner durchgeführt wurde. Dort konnten Partner und Endkunden über die Zukunft des Kundenmanagements diskutieren und erfuhren, was sich hinter dem Begriff „Customer Experience“ alles verbirgt. Die Konferenz begann mit einem Networking Dinner am Vorabend, an dem den 80 Teilnehmern in einer ersten Präsentation das Thema „Mobile Commerce“ vorgestellt wurde. Nach einem guten Abendessen hatten alle die Möglichkeit, auf einer Großleinwand beim EM-Spiel Deutschland gegen Holland mitzufiebern. Insgesamt war es ein sehr gelungener Abend, waren die deutschen Jungs doch siegreich und sicherten sich den Einzug ins Viertelfinale. Der Customer Experience Gipfel selbst hat dann alle Erwartungen übertroffen: 150 Teilnehmer, ein Drittel mehr als erwartet, zeigten großes Interesse an Multichannel-Strategien, Loyalty und wie man jeden einzelnen Schritt des Kunden im Kontakt mit dem Unternehmen zu einem positiven Kundenerlebnis werden lässt. So standen überwiegend Unternehmenspräsentationen aus den unterschiedlichen Branchen wie Telekommunikation, Handel oder Travel & Transportation auf dem Programm. Neun Round Tables, fast alle von den teilnehmenden Oracle Partnern moderiert, und 1:1-Gespräche rundeten die Konferenz ab. Und Zeit zum Networking blieb natürlich auch. Bei diesem Angebot war das Teilnehmer-Fazit demnach durchwegs positiv, vor allem sind die Kunden (und Partner) schon auf Oracle Customer Experience (CX) und die Vorteile für das eigene Kundenmanagement gespannt.   Today, we are proud to announce the general availability of Oracle VM 3 templates for Oracle Secure Global Desktop version 4.62.  With Oracle VM 3 templates, anyone using Oracle VM 3 need not download, install and configure the Operating System and product(s) individually. In this case, the supported operating system (Oracle Linux 5.7) and Oracle Secure Global Dekstop 4.62 product is packaged together into a template that one can easily import and clone as a VM into Oracle VM 3. This results in a nearly instant deployment and configuration of Oracle Secure Global Desktop within Oracle VM 3.  This means drastically reducing the evaluation and deployment time for Oracle Secure Global Desktop when leveraging Oracle VM 3. Feel free to give it a try! • Adding a CMS to an existing Magento shop

  I am working on a project for 3 niche stores built on magento (using magento's multi-store function) that each get roughly 50k unique visitors a day. The sites don't currently have a blog or forum or any social networking aspects. Would like to add a cms to each site that can be centrally run and would like it to take over the front end content from Magento. Also would like it to maintain an online blog/publication of sorts with videos, articles, and the like with privileges to edit the content given to a dozen or so people with different privileges. Want to add a forum to each site that is fairly robust and to possibly add some social networking aspects down the road, so extandability and available plugins/mods in each cms is important. Other than shared login between the forums,blog/publication and store, would like to be able to integrate some content from the forums and blog/publication into the store as well. After researching this a bit, I am inclined towards Drupal, but I haven't found any modules to integrate it with Magento. Also, since the blog content will be done by about a dozen nontechnical people, I want something that is very easy to work with. Lastly, since the site gets a good amount of traffic, speed and security are very important. What CMS would you recommend integrating in this context? Deciding between Drupal, Wordpress and Plone. Thanks.

• How to configure a MInimal Ubuntu installation?

  I recently re installed Ubuntu using the mini.iso, but much to my dismay the mini.iso is not configured the same way as the Ubuntu desktop ISO some "problems" I'm facing such as: An Installation using the regular Ubuntu CD recognizes my active network connections in Network Manager, Installing with the mini.iso gives me a working connection however no connections are "active" in Network Manager displaying the message "The system network services are not compatible with this version." In a regular Ubuntu install connecting an Android phone to the PC mounts the phone's internal memory and sd card if present, Using the mini.iso the phone is detected as it appears with the command lsusb but it's not mounted and can't be mounted. In the same regards using the phone to tether it's connection to the PC via USB, the phone is connected to my (wifi) IN the regular Ubuntu install the phone is recognized as a networking device and is used as connection usb0, while in the mini.iso nothing happens, and trying to add the connection to /etc/network/interfaces results in the OS crashing. Just to make sure It wasn't a matter of my user not having the correct permissions or a lack of "groups", I've checked with an Ubuntu VM and the groups are the same, the networking files are the same, and the packages (except those of ubuntu-desktop such as Unity, Firefox, LibreOffice, and other non-essential software) are Installed in my PC, so what else is there to look for?. I'm sure I'm missing something, and I'd prefer not to install Ubuntu again, using the regular cd. How can I manage to get the same behaviour/configuration without reinstalling ?

  Hot on oracle.com is a snapshot of Netretail Holding B.V. profiling their use of PHP and Oracle technology such as Oracle RAC cluster database to become a leading online retailer across Central and Eastern Europe. We've also just refreshed our key PHP Scalability and High Availability whitepaper which talks about connection pooling (DRCP) and Fast Application Notification (FAN). We brought it up to date for 11gR2 and PHP 5.3. It now includes the new 11gR2 V$CPOOL_CONN_INFO view, the new columns for DBA_CPOOL_INFO, information about LOGOFF triggers, and information about the support for Client Result Caching with DRCP. Back to Netretail. Two of their secrets to success are keeping technically up to date, and networking. That is, networking in the business sense. I had the pleasure of meeting Michal Táborský (@whizz), the Chief System Architect, when he was in California for a Velocity conference. Michal took time to visit Oracle HQ and talk with our developers about his then current architecture and future needs. I also met his manager at last year's Oracle OpenWorld conference. Having built up a relationship with us, Netretail now has access to Oracle Development staff. While this will never bypass Oracle Support (which have tools, systems etc that are needed and useful for resolving issues), it makes communication easier for some classes of questions. It helps discussions that will let us improve Oracle products, and make Netretail stronger. I like this. And there's no reason why you can't talk with us too. You know where to email me.

• Adding a CMS to an existing Magento shop

  I am working on a project for 3 niche stores built on magento (using magento's multi-store function) that each get roughly 50k unique visitors a day. The sites don't currently have a blog or forum or any social networking aspects. Would like to add a cms to each site that can be centrally run and would like it to take over the front end content from Magento. Also would like it to maintain an online blog/publication of sorts with videos, articles, and the like with privileges to edit the content given to a dozen or so people with different privileges. Want to add a forum to each site that is fairly robust and to possibly add some social networking aspects down the road, so extandability and available plugins/mods in each cms is important. Other than shared login between the forums,blog/publication and store, would like to be able to integrate some content from the forums and blog/publication into the store as well. After researching this a bit, I am inclined towards Drupal, but I haven't found any modules to integrate it with Magento. Also, since the blog content will be done by about a dozen nontechnical people, I want something that is very easy to work with. Lastly, since the site gets a good amount of traffic, speed and security are very important. What CMS would you recommend integrating in this context? Deciding between Drupal, Wordpress and Plone. • J2EE or .Net Framework [closed]

  I want to learn JAVA or C#... tell me the strength and weakness of each platforms J2EE and .Net Framework today in 2012 and which is safer for the future jobs wise? I tend to prefer Java because here (Montreal, Toronto) there is like 6 Java jobs for each C# jobs and some experienced programmers advised me to go with Java because they say JVM languages are winning in the cloud and the rise of Android can't do anything except help Java in the long run. Is that true today with the release of windows 8 soon and ios devices? On the other side 1 of these programmers told me that corporation love Asp.Net Mvc3 for intranet and web dev and that tomcat/apache java jsp adoption is slowing down compared to Asp.net and ruby on rails & html5 etc. He told me too since I have a good background in system admins & networking C# would be better for me because I'll be able to do more things in the microsoft world with powershell automation and creating my own apps for all the networking stuffs (windows server, dns,dhcp, active directory, sharepoint etc). But what if windows 8 flop java and android aren't safer in the long run? because he told me mono was a joke compared to Java/android or native objective-c on ios devices. (I plan to do a full time study of 10hr's / 15hr's a day for the next 9 months of either Java or C# that's why I ask this)

• Cannot restart Ubuntu after replacing Unity with Gnome and purging lightdm

  I am running Ubuntu 11.10. I used the directions here to replace Unity with Gnome. It seemed to work fine until the end of step 2 when I rebooted the computer. When I chose the default option, I just got a black screen. When I choose the restore option and then "Restore normal boot" I get Starting load fallback graphics devices [fail] Starting GNOME Display Manager [ok] Starting Userspace bootsplash [ok] Stopping GNOME Display Manager [ok] Stopping Userspace bootsplash [ok] Starting web server apach22 [fail] (among a lot of OKs) It finally gets to Stopping System V runlevel compatibility [ok] where it hangs. I left it overnight and just had a blank screen when I checked it in the morning. I can "Drop to root shell prompt" and "Drop to root shell prompt with networking". I did see here that one should be able to fix the problem by choosing remount and then doing apt-get install lightdm I tried this as root shell with and without networking and got the message Err http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneric-updates/main lightdm i386 1.0.6-0ubuntu1.7 Could not resolve 'us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu' What is the best way to resolve this problem? • MySQL - Configuration

  Having previously detailed how to install MySQL Server, the next step is configuring MySQL. The MySQL configuration wizard can either be run immediately following installation from the MySQL installation wizard or manually from the Start Menu. Following the splash screen you can then choose whether to run a detailed or standard configuration. The detailed configuration allows you to create the optimal configuration for your specific machine, whereas the standard configuration creates a general configuration that can then be manually tuned. I chose detailed.   You are then asked to choose the type of server instance that is being configured. In this case it is a developer machine. Following this you are asked to choose the type of database usage that you expect on the server. I opted for multifunctional. You must then specify the location of the InnoDB tablespace.   Next specify the number of concurent connections to the server.   Now you must configure the networking options. I left the Strict mode enabled as this is the recommended option, but I disabled TCP/IP networking as I wanted to restrict this MySQL installation to the local machine only.   Set the character set that is best suited to your use - for me this was the default standard character set. Next up is the option to run MySQL as a service and whether or not to include the mysql dircetories in the windows PATH. I kept the install as a windows service option enabled, but unchecked the Launch MySQL server automatically option. This is because I only wanted MySQL running when I specifically want to use it. I also enabled the include in windows PATH option.   You can then change the security settings for the mysql installation. I opted to change the root password, disable root from local machines and disable annoymous access.   You are now ready to execute the configuration.   Once completed you should hopefully see the completed screen with lots of nice ticks against the various configuration tasks.

• DHCP-server doesn't start at boot because of wrong startup order

  Apparently the isc-dhcp-server is started too early in the boot sequence, it states that it has nothing to do. If I just log directly in as root and start it using the init.d-script, it starts normally. My setup is basically an utterly standard router, with an eth0 on the inet side, and an eth1 on the lan side. However, I've defined a bridge instead of the eth1 for the lan-side. Thus, the lan-part of the network isn't up until the bridge is up. I currently believe that the dhcp server is brought up before the bridge is brought up, probably because the bridge is brought up with the 'networking' task, while the eth's are taken up with the 'network-interface' tasks - which are run earlier. (also, the bridge takes a small age to get up compared to the eth's). If I do take away the bridge config, instead using eth1 directly for the lan side, things work. (However, judging by syslog, things are still tight.) Ideas of how the get DHCP to start later? (The reason for the bridge, is to be able to use KVM with bridged networking..)

• How To Figure Out Your PC’s Host Name From the Command Prompt

  If you’re doing any work with networking, you probably need to know the name of your computer. Rather than diving into Control Panel, there’s a really simple way to do this from the command prompt. Note: If you haven’t already, be sure to read our complete guide to networking Windows 7 with XP and Vista. To see the hostname… all you have to do is type hostname at the command prompt. Go figure, eh? The same thing works in Linux or OS X, though you can see that most of the time the hostname is part of the prompt anyway. Note: you can also change the hostname by simply typing “hostname <newhostname>”. Of course, the easiest way to see your computer name in Windows is to just hit the Win+Break key combination, which will pop up the System pane from Control Panel.   If you want to change it instead, you can always change your computer name easily through Control Panel. • Bluetooth mouse no longer paired after resuming from suspend since upgrading to 13.10

  Since upgrading to 13.10 from 13.04 my mouse no longer connects via bluetooth. In settings it states that the mouse is not paired. Restarting bluetooth with sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart does not help. Restarting the computer does fix the problem if bluetooth is restarted also with the previously mentioned command, but this is not ideal. The mouse worked fine prior to updating to 13.10. The computer is a ThinkPad X230 with a Broadcom 'BCM20702A0' bluetooth module (I think).
