• Enable Session state in sharePoint 2010

  I setup a test box computer with server 2008 (standard edition, not R2 and not hyper-v editing). I then installed SharePoint 2010. I was amazed how easy the whole setup went (the prerequisites setup on the SharePoint disk made this process oh so easy – great install system). Really this was just so easy. This test box is being used for testing Access web services. I am able to well publish access applications to this test server and Access applications publish and run just fine on the web SharePoint site through an web browser. However, the only thing that does not work is when I launch a Access report. The error message I get back is This report failed to load because session state is not turned on. Here is a screen shot: I can’t seem to find the setting anywhere to turn session state on. Any hints or links on how to enable session state in SharePoint 2010 would be most appreciated.

• Cant get Jquery ui autocomplete widget to work

  Im trying to develop my first ASP.NET MVC web app and have run into a problem with the jquery ui autocomplete widget. At the moment I have a form with a number of text boxs which would lend themselves well to an autocomplete ability. The code for my "Make"(Car make) text box is show below: jquery: $(function() { $("#Make").autocomplete({ source: '<%=Url.Action("Make","AutoComplete") %>' }); }); ASP.NET MVC controller: public ActionResult Make(string term) { return Json(Service.GetHints(HintType.Make, term, 20)); } GetHints() returns an IList of Hints, an object with just label and value string properties. The documentation implies that this is what I should be returning to the jquery but it doesnt want to work? Can anyone give me any advice/help?

  i am currently developing a rails3 app with mongomapper and file storage in gridfs. after some trying around, i found grip and currently also use it in the app for storing the data. so far, so good - now i am trying to get my head around serving the files to the user -- what would be the best/fastest way to achieve that? from: http://railstips.org/blog/archives/2009/12/23/getting-a-grip-on-gridfs/ there seem to be 2 ways: send_data from ruby/rails - is this a recommended way? fast enough?   Hi, I'm new to Java and I have a beginner question: NumberFormat is an abstract class and so I assume I can't make an instance of it. But there is a public static (factory?) method getInstance() that allow me to do NumberFormat nf = NumberFormat.getInstance(); I'm quite confuse. I'll be glad if someone could give me hints on: 1) If there is a public method to get an instance of this abstract class, why don't we have also a constructor? 2) This is an abstract class ; how can we have this static method giving us an instance of the class? 3) Why choosing such a design? If I assume it's possible to have an instance of an abstract class (???), I don't get why this class should be abstract at all. Thank you.

• WPF Application that only has a tray icon

  I am a total WPF newbie and wonder if anyone could give me some pointers how to write an application that starts minimized to tray. The idea is that it periodically fetches an RSS Feed and creates a Toaster-Popup when there are new feeds. The Application should still have a Main Window (essentially just a list containing all feed entries), but that should be hidden by default. I have started reading about XAML and WPF and I know that the StartupUri in the App.xaml has to point to my main window, but I have no idea what the proper way is to do the SysTray icon and hide the main window (this also means that when the user minimizes the window, it should minimize to tray, not to taskbar). Any hints?

• How do I change the background color of the column with the expanders in Eclipse?

  Recently after scorching my retinas from the garish white background in Eclipse, I found some of the excellent posts about how to change the colors so it uses sane (i.e. dark background) colors in the editor. However, one problem present in all solutions is that background of the column with the expanders for code folding is always white. Is there a way to change the background of that column? Here's a screenshot of the problem: I'm not the only person that has this problem, as shown in the screenshots for the following questions: Dark Color Scheme for Eclipse Color Themes for Eclipse (application of color schemes results in this issue on a Mac, no idea about PC) I know that the problem is not language specific as it happens in Java, Python, HTML, and everything else. Any hints on where in the pages of preferences this setting is?

• ScrollView alawys scrolling to the bottom

  I defined a scrollview with a texteedit in my layout: <ScrollView android:fillViewport="true" android:layout_marginBottom="50dip" android:id="@+id/start_scroller" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:fadingEdge="none"> <TextView android:id="@+id/text" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" > </TextView> </ScrollView> I add text to this ScrollView with the following method: public void writeToLogView(String textMsg) { if (text.getText().equals("")) { text.append(textMsg); } else { text.append("\n" + textMsg); scroller.scrollBy(0, 1000000); } } As you can see i append the text and try to scroll to the bottom of the ScrollView. Unfortunately this doesn't worked correctly. It scrolls down, but not always, and not always to the bottom. Any hints?

• Fastest way to do mass update

  Let’s say you have a table with about 5 million records and a nvarchar(max) column populated with large text data. You want to set this column to NULL if SomeOtherColumn = 1 in fastest possible way. The brute force UPDATE does not work very well here because it will create large implicit transaction and take forever. Doing updates in small batches of 50K records at a time works but it’s still taking 47 hrs to complete on beefy 32 core/64GB server. Is there any way to do this update faster? Are there any magic query hints/table options that scarifies something else (like concurrency) in exchange of speed? NOTE: Creating temp table or temp column is not an option because this nvarchar(max) column involves lots of data and so consumes lots of space!

  Hello World, I have an assignment and i got a library including an interface class. [InfoItem] I implement this class [Item]. Now i am required to write a method watchProgram(InfoItem item) [other class, importing InfoItem], which (as shown) requires an InfoItem. The passed parameter item has a variable 'Recorded' [boolean] which i want to edit using a method changeRecorded() that i defined in the implementation of InfoItem. I cannot edit the interface and i get an error message that the method is not found [cannot find symbol].. Any hints, suggestions, solutions? Thanks!! -Samuel-

What i would like to do now is to offer the "Export to PDF feature" trasforming the formatted html\css to PDF. I've imported Reportlab Toolkit and it works good but it's not what i need since it forces me to create PDF manually like: pcanvas.drawString(10, 10, 'This is the title Blah blah blah') What i really need is a library like PISA that trasform Html\Css to PDF. Anyone has managed to succesfully intregrate and use PISA on Google App Engine? Any hints?

  I have an verilog based test-bench, interfaced to 'C source using DPI. Now using DPI I am planning to write my whole firmware. To do this I need 3 things Register Read Register Write Interrupt handler As I understand, register reads and writes are tasks that I need to export from the RTL test-bench. And Interrupt handler (I implemented by importing a function from 'C). I checked most the cadence documentation and found no useful hints.   Hello everyone, I'm looking for a way to determine if the user switches virtual desktops under X11. I'm using Python with X11 libraries and PyGTK. I found some working examples in C, but I lack the expertise to translate them into Python, and I read the source code of several X11 pager applications (fbpanel, pypanel), but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Do I have to register for a signal? Using X11 or GTK? Do I have to busy-wait? I'm completely new to both X11 and GTK, so any hints/help would be greatly appreciated.   I have a multi-user software solution (containing different applications, i.e. EXEs) that should allow only a limited number of concurrent users. It's designed to run in an intranet. I dont have a really good, satisfactory solution to the problem of counting the client licenses yet. The key requirements are: Multiple instances (starts) of the same application (= process) should count as only one client licence Starting different applications of the software solution should also count as only one (the same) client licence Application crash should not lead to orphaned used licences The above should work also for Terminal Server environments (all clients same IP, but different install folders) I'm looking for estabilished patterns, solutions, tips for managing used client licenses. • c# ASP HttpResponse with redirect causes HTTP 302

  Hi, I have a flow of web pages A and B. On the web page A, I do a "Response.Redirect("B.aspx"); The page B needs a client certificate. When the redirect is done I see a popup asking for a client certificate. I select the correct certificate, which is retrieved from a smart card, and then I insert the pin. Right after, I see a page saying that the connection was lost, and I receive an HTTP 302. I never reach the page B.aspx. I tried to add the following line "Response.RedirectLocation = "B.aspx"; but with no success too. Any hints? Thanks

• Extending DOMDocument and DOMNode: problem with return object

  I'm trying to extend the DOMDocument class so as to make XPath selections easier. I wrote this piece of code: class myDOMDocument extends DOMDocument { function selectNodes($xpath){ $oxpath = new DOMXPath($this); return $oxpath->query($xpath); } function selectSingleNode($xpath){ return $this->selectNodes($xpath)->item(0); } } These methods return a DOMNodeList and a DOMNode object, respectively. What I'd like to do now is to implement similar methods to the DOMNode objects. But obviously if I write a class (myDOMNode) that extends DOMNode, I won't be able to use these two extra methods on the nodes returned by myDOMDocument because they're DOMNode (and not myDOMNode) objects. I'm rather a beginner in object programming, I've tried various ideas but they all lead to a dead-end. Any hints? Thanks a lot in advance.

  Hi, For my programming tasks I use about 2-3 remote servers to deploy and run my code against different conditions. This cannot be emulated locally as the server configuration requires powerful hardware. Most of time I need to stop service, update binareis, start service, view logs in realtime, download logs. Currently I'm doing this manually and over time this becomes a real pain in the ass, especially because the environment is not ideal in terms of network badwidth, reliability etc. I just wonder if someone from server programmers have the similar problems and how do you bear with them. Any special tools/hints/secrets?

• different location of AndroidManifest.xml

  i have a custom buildchain for an android project. there is a build.xml and build.properties. build.properties contains this line: manifest.file =${env.WORK_FOLDER}/AndroidManifest.xml and WORK_FOLDER is correctly set to proj_root_work. the layout is like the following: proj_root-_work [DIR] (some stuff gets preprocessed and all finally copied here - src, res, assets and the AndroidManifest.xml) -build.xml -build.properties then i call ant for my build configuration from the proj_root and it complains about not finding AndroidManifest.xml. when i put it in my proj_root it works, but i really want it in my _Work directory. i read that the file HAS TO BE in the root, what is the point then of the build.properties entry? also i saw some custom parameters to aapt.exe ... any hints welcome, thx

• How to find connected hosts at network (vpn or lan)

  Hello, I'm looking for possible solutions to the following need: I have a VPN configured (using openVPN over Linux, BTW), and I want to know at any moment which hosts are connected to it. I recognize that it probably is the same thing as trying to know which hosts are connected to a lan, so any of the solutions might do the job... The fact is that I once used a hamachi vpn on linux and with it I had the chance to know which hosts were connected to a particular network where I belonged, so I was wondering if something similar might be possible in openVPN (or even any VPN and/or any LAN). Preferably, I'm looking for opensource/free sw solutions, or maybe the hints to program it myself (in the most simple way if possible, not that I don't know how to program, but I'm trying to achieve this in a simple manner). • Monitoring process-level performance counters in Windows Perfmon

  I am sure everybody has bumped into this. As you scale a web server that uses multiple application pools, it's valuable to collect performance counters for each application pool 24x7. The only problem is - Perfmon links counters to application pools by process ID, so whenever an application pool recycles you have to remove the counters for the old process ID and add them for the new process ID. Since application pools recycle quite often (whenever you release a new version or patch the server), it's a major pain. I wonder if anybody has found a workaround for this? Perhaps a programmatic way to update Perfmon settings whenever an application pool starts up or some way to reference application pools by name instead of process ID? I'll appreciate any hints on this!

  Myself and some colleagues have just been told that we are all taking the EPiServer CMS certification exam on Friday. Having done some research on the web it does sound like a challenging exam - I've heard that only one in six people pass it. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of learning material, beyond what is described on the EPiServer site, this blog post and this blog post. Has anyone else out there passed recently and if so can they provide any hints or tips? Any help would be appreciated.

• iPhone keyboard doesn't appear when entering a UITextField

  This has to be some kind of newbie blunder that I just can’t see, and I’d be grateful for hints as to what to check or where to look. I've followed an iPhone tutorial that has a UITextField, making sure I connected the IBOutlet for the text field, and it seems to compile properly (no errors or warnings). But when I run it under the simulator, and click in the field, I don’t get the keyboard, so I can’t enter anything into the field. I’ve tried searching the site for similar questions, and all I’ve found is a few questions where the developer is trying to set up some complex UI with multiple controllers, and one that seemed to be the same issue, but the original poster simply said that he solved it by starting a new project and porting the code over. I’d like to find an actual solution, so I don’t have to try randomly rebuilding projects when this issue comes up again. Thanks!
