• EXT-js PropertyGrid best practices to achieve an update ?

  Hello, I am using EXT-js for a project, usually everything is pretty straight forward with EXT-js, but with the propertyGrid, I am not sure. I'd like some advice about this piece of code. • Important Note for Enablement Service Pack 1 for UPK 3.6.1

  The following was originally posted to one of the UPK communities on LinkedIn. Since this post generated some feedback that this information was not well-known, I thought it would be good to repost, which I've done with permission from Earl Sullivan. This is an FYI for those who have UPK 3.6.1 and applied the Enablement Pack 1. There is a manual database update that is needed to be run. Here is the information: To correct an issue with permissioning in the Library, this Service Pack, issued in March 2010, also contains scripts to update the database on the Oracle Database or MicrosoftSQL server. Once you have run the Setup.exe file for the Service Pack, the necessary script files can be found at the root of the folder where the Developer is installed. These scripts must be run manually according to the instructions below. To update a database located on an Oracle Database server manually: Run the Setup.exe to install the files for the Service Pack. Start SQL*Plus and login with the system account. At the command prompt, enter the path to the AlterSchemaObjects.sql script located at the root of the folder where the Developer is installed. and append the following parameters: schema_owner - There is a limit of 20 characters on the schema owner name. You can find this information in the web.config file located in the Repository.WS in the folder where the server is installed. password - The existing schema owner password. Statement with generic parameters: @C:\AlterSchemaObjects.sql schema_owner password 4. Run the AlterSchemaObjects.sql script. To update a database located on a Microsoft SQL server manually: Run the Setup.exe to install the files for the Service Pack. Log in to the database using the database administrator account. Open and edit the AlterDBObjects.sql file located at the root of the folder where the Developer is installed. Replace the ODServer text with the username used when the database was installed. You can find this information in the web.config file located in the Repository.WS folder in the folder where the server is installed. Change the database from master to the name of the existing Developer database and run the AlterDBObjects.sql script. Note: The database name is the initial catalog in the connection string in the web.config file. Editor's note: The database update fixes a problem with permissions where the permissions for a user will be incorrectly updated when a group that the user was removed from has their permissions changed.

• Is monkeypatching considered good programming practice?

  I've been under impression, that monkeypatching is more in quick and dirty hack category, rather than standard, good programming practice. While I'd used from time to time to fix minor issues with 3rd party libs, I considered it temporary fix and I'd submit proper patch to the 3rd party project. However, I've seen this technique used as "the normal way" in mainstream projects, for example in Gevent's gevent.monkey module.   I'm working on a scripted install of something, and one of the parts is adding an Apache Bigtop repo and installing things from it. But having to do an apt-get update before installing is quite time consuming because of all of the other mirrors touched (and I do an update before hand to make sure the system has previously used tools in the script). Is there either a way to do an update that doesn't update everything or a way to do an install and specify a repo/list that hasn't been updated?

• Tessellation Texture Coordinates

  Firstly some info - I'm using DirectX 11 , C++ and I'm a fairly good programmer but new to tessellation and not a master graphics programmer. I'm currently implementing a tessellation system for a terrain model, but i have reached a snag. My current system produces a terrain model from a height map complete with multiple texture coordinates, normals, binormals and tangents for rendering. Now when i was using a simple vertex and pixel shader combination everything worked perfectly but since moving to include a hull and domain shader I'm slightly confused and getting strange results. My terrain is a high detail model but the textured results are very large patches of solid colour. My current setup passes the model data into the vertex shader then through the hull into the domain and then finally into the pixel shader for use in rendering. My only thought is that in my hull shader i pass the information into the domain shader per patch and this is producing the large areas of solid colour because each patch has identical information. Lighting and normal data are also slightly off but not as visibly as texturing. Below is a copy of my hull shader that does not work correctly because i think the way that i am passing the data through is incorrect. • Could not calculate upgrade from Maverick Meerkat to Natty Narwhal

  I upgraded from Ubuntu Lucid Lynx to Maverick Meerkat with the following commands: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install update-manager-core sudo vi /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades and changed the last line to Prompt=normal sudo do-release-upgrade -d This upgrade was OK. I decided to repeat the same steps and to upgrade Maverick Meerkat to Natty Narwhal. It ended with this message: Building data structures... Done Calculating the changes Calculating the changes Could not calculate the upgrade An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade: Can not mark 'xubuntu-desktop' for upgrade This can be caused by: * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report. • One Update Panel vs. Multiple Update Panels

  I have an ASP.NET web page that displays a variety of fields that need to be updated best on certain conditions, button clicks and so on. We've implemented AJAX, using the ASP.NET Update Panel to avoid visible postbacks. Originally there was only one area that needed this ability ... that soon expanded to other fields. Now my web page has multiple UpdatePanels. I am wondering if it would be best to just wrap the entire form in a single UpdatePanel, or keep the individual UpdatePanels. What are the best practices for using the ASP.NET UpdatePanel?

• django generic view update/create: update works but create raises IntegrityError

  I'm using CreateView and UpdateView directely into urls.py of my application whose name is dydict. In the file forms.py I'm using ModelForm and I'm exluding a couple of fields from being shown, some of which sould be set when either creating or updating. So, as mentioned in the title, update part works but create part doesn't which is obvious because required fields that I have exluded are sent empty which is not allowed in my case. So the question here is, how should I do to fill exluded fields into the file forms.py so that I don't have to override CreateView? Thanks in advance.

• Partial upgrade error

  this is an issue I have googled a lot and I have tried a lot of fixes, but non of them really worked. At some point (I can't remember when/how) my Update system sort of broke, and since then it is always complaining about "Not all updates can be installed, run a Partial Upgrade". If I click on Partial Upgrade, I get the following result But running apt-get install -f does not fix anything, and at the end I always get the following message Funny thing is that my apt-get system works perfect on Console. I can update my system through apt-get update, apt-get upgrade etc.. So.. how can I fix the graphic interface? I understand that my apt-get system is not broken, but somehow its GUI it is. Any thoughts about it? THANKS! P.D: I have already tried sudo dpkg --configure -a and sudo apt-get autoremove

  When i have select to install updates from the update manager it says: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux/linux-image-3.0.0-13-generic_3.0.0-13.22_i386.deb Size mismatch I have tried several times and through terminal too but the size mismatch repeats itself there too. What is this size mismatch error ? If I run sudo update-alternatives --config java I get the following output: There are 2 choices for the alternative java (providing /usr/bin/java). But if I run either java -version or javac -version The output indicates that version 6 is still the default. How can I set the default to version 7?

• Continuously asking for partial upgrade

  I just upgraded my Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 after the announcement of the final release of Ubuntu 12.04. The upgrade process went fine. But now when I run the update manager it asks for a partial upgrade. But the funny thing is it installs 84 new packages in installation step, remove all the 84 packages in the cleaning step!!! This is happening recursively(Every time I launch the update manager). Please can you suggest something? Under point four he proposes: Step 4: Update Although you installed the latest daily you should ensure it is up to date, and you can do this with: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade Now, I followed all the steps and am actually writing this question from a session running on a 4GB USB stick. When trying to update the installation though (I just tried to do that using the Update Manager), it always fails because I do not have enough disc space remaining. How can I get Ubuntu to update properly on my USB stick?

• can't update 12.04 getting package header error

  I originally posted this question, and was redirected to another thread where the question had already been asked. I then posted to that thread and had my post deleted by moderator fossfreedom, and told to post a "new" question... so wth ever.... I don't care if it's old or new I just need help here people! In a nutshell, I can't use sudo apt-get update or the GUI update tool to update my system. Anytime I try using either tool it gives me an error about packages missing headers. I can't send error reports, I have tried all the listed solutions from this post: I can't update my system properly, "no package header" error and from this post: "Problem with MergeList" error when trying to do an update and neither one work. I just want a working solution since I don't have the means of re-installing the OS entirely, and I REALLY don't want to have to go back to using Windows.

• Ubuntu 12.10 doesn't work after update

  12.10 doesn't work after a partial distribution update. I had some trouble before I began the update, and the Partial Update thingy appeared. It took about 6 hours to update/upgrade, don't know why. After the update, I restarted the laptop and nautilus doesn't appear nor does Unity. I can't switch to Gnome or anything else to try and fix it. The resolution is weird (doesn't fill out the right side of the screen). I'm almost sure it's Compiz who's the sinner (or me.) but I need help to get everything working again. Internet connections is fine. I have tried sudo apt-get install -f and sudo apt-get upgrade and so on.

• Windows update stuck. Fixt it stuck. So is KB947821. What should I do?

  I installed a new computer. After I installed I update everything and let the computer runs for days. Then I don't know what my daughter do. The computer stop responding. Windows update no longer work. People said to run fix it. Fix it run and after that the problem still persist and it still doesn't work. The problem changes though. Before there is some error code. Now windows update simply "updating" never end. So I downloaded KB947821. It's been 3 hour and it's still installing. Looks like it hit firewall or something. i don't see windows update on firewall exception list. However, I've never heard that this is an issue. Firewall only protect against incoming transaction, not outgoing right? Or what am I missing. What should I do?
