  • onCommand on button not firing inside gridView??

    - by sah302
This is really driving me crazy. I've got a button inside a gridview to remove that item from the gridview (its datasource is a list). I've got the list being saved to session anytime a change is being made to it, and on page_load check if that session variable is empty, if not, then set that list to bind to the gridview. Code Behind: Public accomplishmentTypeDao As New AccomplishmentTypeDao() Public accomplishmentDao As New AccomplishmentDao() Public userDao As New UserDao() Public facultyDictionary As New Dictionary(Of Guid, String) Public facultyList As New List(Of User) Public associatedFaculty As New List(Of User) Public facultyId As New Guid Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load 'If Not Session("associatedFaculty") Is Nothing Then' ' Dim associatedFacultyArray As User() = DirectCast(Session("associatedFaculty"), User())' ' associatedFaculty = associatedFacultyArray.ToList()' 'End If' Page.Title = "Add a New Faculty Accomplishment" ddlAccomplishmentType.DataSource = accomplishmentTypeDao.getEntireTable() ddlAccomplishmentType.DataTextField = "Name" ddlAccomplishmentType.DataValueField = "Id" ddlAccomplishmentType.DataBind() facultyList = userDao.getListOfUsersByUserGroupName("Faculty") For Each faculty As User In facultyList facultyDictionary.Add(faculty.Id, faculty.LastName & ", " & faculty.FirstName) Next If Not Page.IsPostBack Then ddlFacultyList.DataSource = facultyDictionary ddlFacultyList.DataTextField = "Value" ddlFacultyList.DataValueField = "Key" ddlFacultyList.DataBind() End If gvAssociatedUsers.DataSource = associatedFaculty gvAssociatedUsers.DataBind() End Sub Protected Sub deleteUser(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.CommandEventArgs) facultyId = New Guid(e.CommandArgument.ToString()) associatedFaculty.Remove(associatedFaculty.Find(Function(user) user.Id = facultyId)) Session("associatedFaculty") = associatedFaculty.ToArray() gvAssociatedUsers.DataBind() upAssociatedFaculty.Update() End Sub Protected Sub btnAddUser_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles btnAddUser.Click facultyId = New Guid(ddlFacultyList.SelectedValue) associatedFaculty.Add(facultyList.Find(Function(user) user.Id = facultyId)) Session.Add("associatedFaculty", associatedFaculty.ToArray()) gvAssociatedUsers.DataBind() upAssociatedFaculty.Update() End Sub Protected Sub Delete(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.CommandEventArgs) End Sub End Class Markup: <asp:UpdatePanel ID="upAssociatedFaculty" runat="server" UpdateMode="Conditional"> <ContentTemplate> <p><b>Created By:</b> <asp:Label ID="lblCreatedBy" runat="server"></asp:Label></p> <p><b>Accomplishment Type: </b><asp:DropDownList ID="ddlAccomplishmentType" runat="server"></asp:DropDownList></p> <p><b>Accomplishment Applies To: </b><asp:DropDownList ID="ddlFacultyList" runat="server"></asp:DropDownList> &nbsp;<asp:Button ID="btnAddUser" runat="server" Text="Add Faculty" OnClientClick="incrementCounter();" /></p> <p> <asp:GridView ID="gvAssociatedUsers" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="false" GridLines="None" ShowHeader="false"> <Columns> <asp:BoundField DataField="Id" HeaderText="Id" Visible="False" /> <asp:TemplateField ShowHeader="False"> <ItemTemplate> <span style="margin-left: 15px;"> <p><%#Eval("LastName")%>, <%#Eval("FirstName")%> <asp:Button ID="btnUnassignUser" runat="server" CausesValidation="false" CommandArgument='<%# Eval("Id") %>' CommandName="Delete" OnCommand="deleteUser" Text='Remove' /></p> </span> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> </Columns> <EmptyDataTemplate> <em>There are currently no faculty associated with this accomplishment.</em> </EmptyDataTemplate> </asp:GridView> </p> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> Now here is the crazy part I am simply boggled by, if I uncomment the If Not Session... block of page_load, then deleteUser will never fire when btnUnassignUser is clicked. If I keep it commented out...it fires no problem, but then of course my list can never have more than one item since I am not loading the saved list from session into the gridview but just a fresh one. But the button click is being registered, because page_load is being stepped through again when I am viewing in debug mode, just deleteUser never fires. Why is this happening?? And how can I fix it??

  • Transport rule - Exchange 2010

    - by Jeff
I have two transport rules on my exchange server. One is: > Apply rule to messages: From users that are 'outside the organization' > and when any of the recipients in the To or Cc fields is a member of > '[email protected]' Forward the messageto sender's manager > for moderation The second is: Apply rule to messages from a member of '[email protected]' and sent to users that are 'outside the organization' forward the message to the sender's manager for moderation. nointernetmail is a distribution group, and each user has the managed by set to there local manager. However these transport rules do not work, internet mail is still sent and received without issue. I have read various tutorials / articles of how to do this on sites such as msexchangeblog and even microsoft technet, however even after following the guides I am still unable to have this function properly. Any help is appreciated.

  • Updating with using custom class collection not working

    - by Risho
    I've posted this yesterday on asp forum but no one replied so perhaps I'll have better luck here. For some reason the OnUpdating method does not pull new values from the grid which is in edit mode. I've search and have come across several blogs and sites, some sugesting that an ObjectDataSource is required in order to use the "e.NewValue" construct others provide code to the contrary. I don't get any errors - the variables in the code file would contain the old values rather then new ones. I don't want to use the ODS way of manipulating the data. My delete method works but not the update one. Can you suggest what is wrong with the code? Here is what I've got: aspx file: <asp:GridView ID="gvBlack" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" OnRowUpdating="gvBlack_OnUpdating" OnRowEditing="gvBlack_RowEditing"> <Columns> <%--<asp:BoundField DataField="Ident_Black" ReadOnly="True" visible="false" />--%> <asp:TemplateField ItemStyle-Width="1px"> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblIdent_Black" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Ident_Black") %>' Visible="false" /> </EditItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Model" > <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblModel_Black" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Model_Black") %>' width="130px" /> </ItemTemplate> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="txtModel_Black" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("Model_Black") %>' width="100px" /> <asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="rfvModel_Black" runat="server" ControlToValidate="txtModel_Black" SetFocusOnError="true" ErrorMessage="*" ValidationGroup="CurrentMfg" ForeColor="Red" Font-Bold="true" /> </EditItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Description" > <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblDesc_Black" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Desc_Black") %>' width="200px" /> </ItemTemplate> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="txtDesc_Black" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("Desc_Black") %>' width="170px" /> <span></span> </EditItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Qty" > <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblQty_Black" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Qty_Black") %>' width="35px" /> </ItemTemplate> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="txtQty_Black" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("Qty_Black") %>' width="35px" /> <asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="rfvQty_Black" runat="server" ControlToValidate="txtQty_Black" SetFocusOnError="true" ErrorMessage="*" ValidationGroup="CurrentMfg" ForeColor="Red" Font-Bold="true" /> </EditItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Reorder<br />Limit"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblBlack_Reorder_Limit" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Black_Reorder_Limit") %>' width="35px" /> </ItemTemplate> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="txtBlack_Reorder_Limit" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("Black_Reorder_Limit") %>' width="35px" /> <asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="rfvBlack_Reorder_Limit" runat="server" ControlToValidate="txtBlack_Reorder_Limit" SetFocusOnError="true" ErrorMessage="*" ValidationGroup="CurrentMfg" ForeColor="Red" Font-Bold="true" /> </EditItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Notes"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblNotes" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Notes") %>' width="200px" /> </ItemTemplate> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="txtNotes" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("Notes") %>' width="170px" /> <span></span> </EditItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:CommandField ShowEditButton="True" ShowDeleteButton="false" ValidationGroup="CurrentToner" /> </Columns> </asp:GridView> aspx.cs file: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { LoadData_TonerBlack(); } private void LoadData_TonerBlack() { dalConsumables_TonerBlack drTonerBlack = new dalConsumables_TonerBlack(); gvBlack.DataSource = drTonerBlack.GetListTonersBlack(); gvBlack.DataBind(); } protected void gvBlack_OnUpdating(object sender, GridViewUpdateEventArgs e) { //GridView gvBlack = (GridView)sender; //GridViewRow gvBlackRow = (GridViewRow)gvBlack.Rows[e.RowIndex]; int _Ident_Black = Convert.ToInt32(gvBlack.DataKeys[e.RowIndex].Values[0].ToString()); TextBox _txtModel_Black = (TextBox)gvBlack.Rows[e.RowIndex].FindControl("txtModel_Black"); TextBox _txtDesc_Black = (TextBox)gvBlack.Rows[e.RowIndex].FindControl("txtDesc_Black"); TextBox _txtQty_Black = (TextBox)gvBlack.Rows[e.RowIndex].FindControl("txtQty_Black"); TextBox _txtBlack_Reorder_Limit = (TextBox)gvBlack.Rows[e.RowIndex].FindControl("txtBlack_Reorder_Limit"); TextBox _txtNotes = (TextBox)gvBlack.Rows[e.RowIndex].FindControl("txtNotes"); string _updatedBy = Request.ServerVariables["AUTH_USER"].ToString(); dalConsumables_TonerBlack updateTonerBlack = new dalConsumables_TonerBlack(); updateTonerBlack.UpdateTonerBlack(_Ident_Black, _txtModel_Black.Text, _txtDesc_Black.Text, Convert.ToInt32(_txtQty_Black.Text), Convert.ToInt32(_txtBlack_Reorder_Limit.Text), _txtNotes.Text, _updatedBy); gvBlack.EditIndex = -1; LoadData_TonerBlack(); } protected void gvBlack_RowEditing(object sender, GridViewEditEventArgs e) { gvBlack.EditIndex = e.NewEditIndex; LoadData_TonerBlack(); } Thanks in advance!   • Problem with parsing strings

    - by Peter Small
I am trying to put a line of dialog on each of a series of images. To match the dialog line with the correct image, I end each line with a forward slash (/) followed by a number to identify the matching image. I then parse each line to get the dialog and then the reference number for the image. It all works fine except that when I put the dialog line into a textView I get the whole line in the textView instead of the dialog part. What is confusing is that the console seems to indicate that the parsing of the dialog line has been carried out correctly. Here are the details of my coding: @interface DialogSequence_1ViewController : UIViewController { IBOutlet UIImageView *theImage; IBOutlet UITextView *fullDialog; IBOutlet UITextView *selectedDialog; IBOutlet UIButton *test_1; IBOutlet UIButton *test_2; IBOutlet UIButton *test_3; NSArray *arrayLines; IBOutlet UISlider *readingSpeed; NSArray *cartoonViews; NSMutableString *dialog; NSMutableArray *dialogLineSections; int lNum; } @property (retain, nonatomic) UITextView *fullDialog; @property (retain, nonatomic) UITextView *selectedDialog; @property (retain, nonatomic) UIButton *test_1; @property (retain, nonatomic) UIButton *test_2; @property (retain, nonatomic) UIButton *test_3; @property (retain, nonatomic) NSArray *arrayLines; @property (retain, nonatomic) NSMutableString *dialog; @property (retain, nonatomic) NSMutableArray *dialogLineSections; @property (retain, nonatomic) UIImageView *theImage; @property (retain, nonatomic) UISlider *readingSpeed; -(IBAction)start:(id)sender; -(IBAction)counter:(id)sender; -(IBAction)runNextLine:(id)sender; @end @implementation DialogSequence_1ViewController @synthesize fullDialog; @synthesize selectedDialog; @synthesize test_1; @synthesize test_2; @synthesize test_3; @synthesize arrayLines; @synthesize dialog; @synthesize theImage; @synthesize readingSpeed; @synthesize dialogLineSections; -(IBAction)runNextLine:(id)sender{ //Get dialog line to display from the arrayLines array NSMutableString *dialogLineDetails; dialogLineDetails =[arrayLines objectAtIndex:lNum]; NSLog(@"dialogLineDetails = %@",dialogLineDetails); //Parse the dialog line dialogLineSections = [dialogLineDetails componentsSeparatedByString: @"/"]; selectedDialog.text =[dialogLineSections objectAtIndex: 0]; NSLog(@"Dialog part of line = %@",[dialogLineSections objectAtIndex: 0]); NSMutableString *imageBit; imageBit = [dialogLineSections objectAtIndex: 1]; NSLog(@"Image code = %@",imageBit); //Select right image int im = [imageBit intValue]; NSLog(@"imageChoiceInteger = %i",im); //------more code } I get a warning on the line: dialogLineSections = [dialogLineDetails componentsSeparatedByString: @"/"]; warning: incompatible Objective-C types assigning 'struct NSArray *', expected 'struct NSMutableArray *' I don't quite understand this and have tried to change the types but to no avail. Would be grateful for some advice here.

  • populate uipicker view with results from core data DB using an NSArray

    - by Chris
I am trying to populate a UIPickerView with the results of a NSFetchRequest. The results of the NSFetchRequest are then stored in an NSArray. I am using Core Data to interact with the SQLite DB. I have a simple class file that contains a UIPickerView that is associated with a storyboard scene in my project. The header file for the class looks like the following, ViewControllerUsers.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "AppDelegate.h" @interface ViewControllerUsers : UIViewController <NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate, UIPickerViewDelegate, UIPickerViewDataSource> { NSArray *dictionaries; } @property (nonatomic, strong) NSFetchedResultsController *fetchedResultsController; // Core Data @property (strong, nonatomic) NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext; @property (nonatomic, strong) NSArray *users; @property (strong, nonatomic) IBOutlet UIPickerView *uiPickerViewUsers; @property (weak, nonatomic) IBOutlet UIBarButtonItem *btnDone; @property (weak, nonatomic) IBOutlet UIButton *btnChangePin; // added for testing purposes @property (nonatomic, strong) NSArray *usernames; - (IBAction)dismissScene:(id)sender; - (IBAction)changePin:(id)sender; @end The implementation file looks like the following, ViewControllerUsers.m #import "ViewControllerUsers.h" @interface ViewControllerUsers () @end @implementation ViewControllerUsers // Core Data @synthesize managedObjectContext = _managedObjectContext; @synthesize uiPickerViewUsers = _uiPickerViewUsers; @synthesize usernames = _usernames; - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil]; if (self) { // Custom initialization } return self; } - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Do any additional setup after loading the view. // Core Data if (_managedObjectContext == nil) { _managedObjectContext = [(AppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] managedObjectContext]; NSLog(@"After _managedObjectContext: %@", _managedObjectContext); } NSFetchRequest *request = [NSFetchRequest fetchRequestWithEntityName:@"Account"]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Account" inManagedObjectContext:_managedObjectContext]; request.resultType = NSDictionaryResultType; request.propertiesToFetch = [NSArray arrayWithObject:[[entity propertiesByName] objectForKey:@"username"]]; request.returnsDistinctResults = YES; _usernames = [_managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:request error:nil]; NSLog (@"names: %@",_usernames); } -(NSInteger)numberOfComponentsInPickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView { //One column return 1; } -(NSInteger)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView numberOfRowsInComponent:(NSInteger)component { //set number of rows return _usernames.count; } -(NSString *)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView titleForRow:(NSInteger)row forComponent:(NSInteger)component { //set item per row return [_usernames objectAtIndex:row]; } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; // Dispose of any resources that can be recreated. } - (void)viewDidUnload { [self setBtnDone:nil]; [self setUiPickerViewUsers:nil]; [self setBtnChangePin:nil]; [super viewDidUnload]; } - (IBAction)dismissScene:(id)sender { [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } - (IBAction)changePin:(id)sender { } @end The current code is causing the app to crash, but the NSLog is show the results of the NSFetchRequest in the NSArray. I currently think that I am not formatting the results of the NSFetchRequest in the NSArray properly if I had to take a guess. • file copy error from system to cifs mount

    - by dwpriest
When coping a file greater than 64kB from an Ubuntu server to a CIFS mounted windows share, most of the data is copied, but it seems the last chunk doesn't get copied. The size doesn't match, and the md5 check sums don't match. I have plenty of file space, but then I use cp, I get the following... cp: closing `cloudBackup/asdf.txt': No space left on device Using rsync, I get the following... rsync: close failed on "/home/fluffy/cloudBackup/.asdf.txt.qrBWe6": No space left on device (28) rsync error: error in file IO (code 11) at receiver.c(752) [receiver=3.0.8] rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (29 bytes received so far) [sender] rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(601) [sender=3.0.8] I have full read/write permissions on the mounted share. I can copy via SSH just fine. Any ideas? Thank you

  • Mailing list with dynamically generated addresses

    - by Joe Tomasone
I am trying to implement a dynamic mailing list from a database that changes quite often. Conditions: Postfix is the MTA Email addresses are in a MySql Database Postfix only allows senders whose emails are in that database (via smtpd_sender_restrictions) Cron job extracts the current emails from the database nightly and puts them into an alias file, then runs postalias on it. This works well, but since the sender remains the same, many domains are rejecting the email since my server is not a DNS listed mail server for the sender's domain. So, I either have to find a way to re-write the outgoing address as "listserv@mydomain" or find some mailing list package that will use database-retrieved emails (either queried directly or in a flat file) as the subscriber list, with that list replaced daily. I've tried Sympa and am pretty much ready to give up on it - it's a nightmare to get working right - but that's the only open source listserver that I have seen that works with dynamic mail lists. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Joe

  • Programatically add UserControl with events

    - by schaermu
Hi everybody I need to add multiple user controls to a panel for further editing of the contained data. My user control contains some panels, dropdown lists and input elements, which are populated in the user control's Page_Load event. protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { // populate comparer ddl from enum string[] enumNames = Enum.GetNames(typeof (SearchComparision)); var al = new ArrayList(); for (int i = 0; i < enumNames.Length; i++) al.Add(new {Value = i, Name = enumNames[i]}); scOperatorSelection.DataValueField = "Value"; scOperatorSelection.DataTextField = "Name"; ... The data to be displayed is added to the user control as a Field, defined above Page_Load. The signature of the events is the following: public delegate void ControlStateChanged(object sender, SearchCriteriaEventArgs eventArgs); public event ControlStateChanged ItemUpdated; public event ControlStateChanged ItemRemoved; public event ControlStateChanged ItemAdded; The update button on the user control triggers the following method: protected void UpdateCriteria(object sender, EventArgs e) { var searchCritCtl = (SearchCriteria) sender; var scEArgs = new SearchCriteriaEventArgs { TargetCriteria = searchCritCtl.CurrentCriteria.CriteriaId, SearchComparision = ParseCurrentComparer(searchCritCtl.scOperatorSelection.SelectedValue), SearchField = searchCritCtl.scFieldSelection.SelectedValue, SearchValue = searchCritCtl.scFilterValue.Text, ClickTarget = SearchCriteriaClickTarget.Update }; if (ItemUpdated != null) ItemUpdated(this, scEArgs); } The rendering page fetches the data objects from a storage backend and displays it in it's Page_Load event. This is the point where it starts getting tricky: i connect to the custom events! int idIt = 0; foreach (var item in _currentSearch.Items) { SearchCriteria sc = (SearchCriteria)LoadControl("~/content/controls/SearchCriteria.ascx"); sc.ID = "scDispCtl_" + idIt; sc.ControlMode = SearchCriteriaMode.Display; sc.CurrentCriteria = item; sc.ItemUpdated += CriteriaUpdated; sc.ItemRemoved += CriteriaRemoved; pnlDisplayCrit.Controls.Add(sc); idIt++; } When first rendering the page, everything is displayed fine, i get all my data. When i trigger an update event, the user control event is fired correctly, but all fields and controls of the user control are NULL. After a bit of research, i had to come to the conclusion that the event is fired before the controls are initialized... Is there any way to prevent such behavior / to override the page lifecycle somehow? I cannot initialize the user controls in the page's Init-event, because i have to access the Session-Store (not initialized in Page_Init). Any advice is welcome... EDIT: Since we hold all criteria informations in the storage backend (including the count of criteria) and that store uses the userid from the session, we cannot use Page_Init... just for clarification EDIT #2: I managed to get past some of the problems. Since i'm now using simple types, im able to bind all the data declaratively (using a repeater with a simple ItemTemplate). It is bound to the control, they are rendered in correct fashion. On Postback, all the data is rebound to the user control, data is available in the OnDataBinding and OnLoad events, everything looks fine. But as soon it enters the real event (bound to the button control of the user control), all field values are lost somehow... Does anybody know, how the page lifecycle continues to process the request after Databinding/Loading ? I'm going crazy about this issue...

  • Calling Web Service Functions Asynchronously from a Web Page

    - by SGWellens
Over on the Asp.Net forums where I moderate, a user had a problem calling a Web Service from a web page asynchronously. I tried his code on my machine and was able to reproduce the problem. I was able to solve his problem, but only after taking the long scenic route through some of the more perplexing nuances of Web Services and Proxies. Here is the fascinating story of that journey. Start with a simple Web Service     public class Service1 : System.Web.Services.WebService    {        [WebMethod]        public string HelloWorld()        {            // sleep 10 seconds            System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(10 * 1000);            return "Hello World";        }    } The 10 second delay is added to make calling an asynchronous function more apparent. If you don't call the function asynchronously, it takes about 10 seconds for the page to be rendered back to the client. If the call is made from a Windows Forms application, the application freezes for about 10 seconds. Add the web service to a web site. Right-click the project and select "Add Web Reference…" Next, create a web page to call the Web Service. Note: An asp.net web page that calls an 'Async' method must have the Async property set to true in the page's header: <%@ Page Language="C#"          AutoEventWireup="true"          CodeFile="Default.aspx.cs"          Inherits="_Default"           Async='true'  %> Here is the code to create the Web Service proxy and connect the event handler. Shrewdly, we make the proxy object a member of the Page class so it remains instantiated between the various events. public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page {    localhost.Service1 MyService;  // web service proxy     // ---- Page_Load ---------------------------------     protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)    {        MyService = new localhost.Service1();        MyService.HelloWorldCompleted += EventHandler;          } Here is the code to invoke the web service and handle the event:     // ---- Async and EventHandler (delayed render) --------------------------     protected void ButtonHelloWorldAsync_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)    {        // blocks        ODS("Pre HelloWorldAsync...");        MyService.HelloWorldAsync();        ODS("Post HelloWorldAsync");    }    public void EventHandler(object sender, localhost.HelloWorldCompletedEventArgs e)    {        ODS("EventHandler");        ODS("    " + e.Result);    }     // ---- ODS ------------------------------------------------    //    // Helper function: Output Debug String     public static void ODS(string Msg)    {        String Out = String.Format("{0}  {1}", DateTime.Now.ToString("hh:mm:ss.ff"), Msg);        System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(Out);    } I added a utility function I use a lot: ODS (Output Debug String). Rather than include the library it is part of, I included it in the source file to keep this example simple. Fire up the project, open up a debug output window, press the button and we get this in the debug output window: 11:29:37.94 Pre HelloWorldAsync... 11:29:37.94 Post HelloWorldAsync 11:29:48.94 EventHandler 11:29:48.94 Hello World   Sweet. The asynchronous call was made and returned immediately. About 10 seconds later, the event handler fires and we get the result. Perfect….right? Not so fast cowboy. Watch the browser during the call: What the heck? The page is waiting for 10 seconds. Even though the asynchronous call returned immediately, Asp.Net is waiting for the event to fire before it renders the page. This is NOT what we wanted. I experimented with several techniques to work around this issue. Some may erroneously describe my behavior as 'hacking' but, since no ingesting of Twinkies was involved, I do not believe hacking is the appropriate term. If you examine the proxy that was automatically created, you will find a synchronous call to HelloWorld along with an additional set of methods to make asynchronous calls. I tried the other asynchronous method supplied in the proxy:     // ---- Begin and CallBack ----------------------------------     protected void ButtonBeginHelloWorld_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)    {        ODS("Pre BeginHelloWorld...");        MyService.BeginHelloWorld(AsyncCallback, null);        ODS("Post BeginHelloWorld");    }    public void AsyncCallback(IAsyncResult ar)    {        String Result = MyService.EndHelloWorld(ar);         ODS("AsyncCallback");        ODS("    " + Result);    } The BeginHelloWorld function in the proxy requires a callback function as a parameter. I tested it and the debug output window looked like this: 04:40:58.57 Pre BeginHelloWorld... 04:40:58.57 Post BeginHelloWorld 04:41:08.58 AsyncCallback 04:41:08.58 Hello World It works the same as before except for one critical difference: The page rendered immediately after the function call. I was worried the page object would be disposed after rendering the page but the system was smart enough to keep the page object in memory to handle the callback. Both techniques have a use: Delayed Render: Say you want to verify a credit card, look up shipping costs and confirm if an item is in stock. You could have three web service calls running in parallel and not render the page until all were finished. Nice. You can send information back to the client as part of the rendered page when all the services are finished. Immediate Render: Say you just want to start a service running and return to the client. You can do that too. However, the page gets sent to the client before the service has finished running so you will not be able to update parts of the page when the service finishes running. Summary: YourFunctionAsync() and an EventHandler will not render the page until the handler fires. BeginYourFunction() and a CallBack function will render the page as soon as possible. I found all this to be quite interesting and did a lot of searching and researching for documentation on this subject….but there isn't a lot out there. The biggest clues are the parameters that can be sent to the WSDL.exe program: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/7h3ystb6(VS.100).aspx Two parameters are oldAsync and newAsync. OldAsync will create the Begin/End functions; newAsync will create the Async/Event functions. Caveat: I haven't tried this but it was stated in this article. I'll leave confirming this as an exercise for the student J. Included Code: I'm including the complete test project I created to verify the findings. The project was created with VS 2008 SP1. There is a solution file with 3 projects, the 3 projects are: Web Service Asp.Net Application Windows Forms Application To decide which program runs, you right-click a project and select "Set as Startup Project". I created and played with the Windows Forms application to see if it would reveal any secrets. I found that in the Windows Forms application, the generated proxy did NOT include the Begin/Callback functions. Those functions are only generated for Asp.Net pages. Probably for the reasons discussed earlier. Maybe those Microsoft boys and girls know what they are doing. I hope someone finds this useful. Steve Wellens

  • Oracle B2B 11g - Transport Layer Acknowledgement

    - by Nitesh Jain Oracle
In Health Care Industry,Acknowledgement or Response should be sent back very fast. Once any message received, Acknowledgement should be sent back to TP. Oracle B2B provides a solution to send acknowledgement or Response from transport layer of mllp that is called as immediate acknowledgment. Immediate acknowledgment is generated and transmitted in the transport layer. It is an alternative to the functional acknowledgment, which generates after processing/validating the data in document layer. Oracle B2B provides four types of immediate acknowledgment: Default: Oracle B2B parses the incoming HL7 message and generates an acknowledgment from it. This mode uses the details from incoming payload and generate the acknowledgement based on incoming HL7 message control number, sender and application identification. By default, an Immediate ACK is a generic ACK. Trigger event can also sent back by using Map Trigger Event property. If mapping the MSH.10 of the ACK with the MSH.10 of the incoming business message is required, then enable the Map ACK Control ID property. Simple: B2B sends the predefined acknowledgment message to the sender without parsing the incoming message. Custom: Custom immediate Ack/Response mode gives a user to define their own response/acknowledgement. This is configurable using file in the Custom Immediate ACK File property. Negative: In this case, immediate ACK will be returned only in the case of exceptions.

  • C#/.NET Little Wonders: The EventHandler and EventHandler&lt;TEventArgs&gt; delegates

    - by James Michael Hare
Once again, in this series of posts I look at the parts of the .NET Framework that may seem trivial, but can help improve your code by making it easier to write and maintain. The index of all my past little wonders posts can be found here. In the last two weeks, we examined the Action family of delegates (and delegates in general), and the Func family of delegates and how they can be used to support generic, reusable algorithms and classes. So this week, we are going to look at a handy pair of delegates that can be used to eliminate the need for defining custom delegates when creating events: the EventHandler and EventHandler<TEventArgs> delegates. Events and delegates Before we begin, let’s quickly consider events in .NET.  According to the MSDN: An event in C# is a way for a class to provide notifications to clients of that class when some interesting thing happens to an object. So, basically, you can create an event in a type so that users of that type can subscribe to notifications of things of interest.  How is this different than some of the delegate programming that we talked about in the last two weeks?  Well, you can think of an event as a special access modifier on a delegate.  Some differences between the two are: Events are a special access case of delegates They behave much like delegates instances inside the type they are declared in, but outside of that type they can only be (un)subscribed to. Events can specify add/remove behavior explicitly If you want to do additional work when someone subscribes or unsubscribes to an event, you can specify the add and remove actions explicitly. Events have access modifiers, but these only specify the access level of those who can (un)subscribe A public event, for example, means anyone can (un)subscribe, but it does not mean that anyone can raise (invoke) the event directly.  Events can only be raised by the type that contains them In contrast, if a delegate is visible, it can be invoked outside of the object (not even in a sub-class!). Events tend to be for notifications only, and should be treated as optional Semantically speaking, events typically don’t perform work on the the class directly, but tend to just notify subscribers when something of note occurs. My basic rule-of-thumb is that if you are just wanting to notify any listeners (who may or may not care) that something has happened, use an event.  However, if you want the caller to provide some function to perform to direct the class about how it should perform work, make it a delegate. Declaring events using custom delegates To declare an event in a type, we simply use the event keyword and specify its delegate type.  For example, let’s say you wanted to create a new TimeOfDayTimer that triggers at a given time of the day (as opposed to on an interval).  We could write something like this: 1: public delegate void TimeOfDayHandler(object source, ElapsedEventArgs e); 2:  3: // A timer that will fire at time of day each day. 4: public class TimeOfDayTimer : IDisposable 5: { 6: // Event that is triggered at time of day. 7: public event TimeOfDayHandler Elapsed; 8:  9: // ... 10: } The first thing to note is that the event is a delegate type, which tells us what types of methods may subscribe to it.  The second thing to note is the signature of the event handler delegate, according to the MSDN: The standard signature of an event handler delegate defines a method that does not return a value, whose first parameter is of type Object and refers to the instance that raises the event, and whose second parameter is derived from type EventArgs and holds the event data. If the event does not generate event data, the second parameter is simply an instance of EventArgs. Otherwise, the second parameter is a custom type derived from EventArgs and supplies any fields or properties needed to hold the event data. So, in a nutshell, the event handler delegates should return void and take two parameters: An object reference to the object that raised the event. An EventArgs (or a subclass of EventArgs) reference to event specific information. Even if your event has no additional information to provide, you are still expected to provide an EventArgs instance.  In this case, feel free to pass the EventArgs.Empty singleton instead of creating new instances of EventArgs (to avoid generating unneeded memory garbage). The EventHandler delegate Because many events have no additional information to pass, and thus do not require custom EventArgs, the signature of the delegates for subscribing to these events is typically: 1: // always takes an object and an EventArgs reference 2: public delegate void EventHandler(object sender, EventArgs e) It would be insane to recreate this delegate for every class that had a basic event with no additional event data, so there already exists a delegate for you called EventHandler that has this very definition!  Feel free to use it to define any events which supply no additional event information: 1: public class Cache 2: { 3: // event that is raised whenever the cache performs a cleanup 4: public event EventHandler OnCleanup; 5:  6: // ... 7: } This will handle any event with the standard EventArgs (no additional information).  But what of events that do need to supply additional information?  Does that mean we’re out of luck for subclasses of EventArgs?  That’s where the generic for of EventHandler comes into play… The generic EventHandler<TEventArgs> delegate Starting with the introduction of generics in .NET 2.0, we have a generic delegate called EventHandler<TEventArgs>.  Its signature is as follows: 1: public delegate void EventHandler<TEventArgs>(object sender, TEventArgs e) 2: where TEventArgs : EventArgs This is similar to EventHandler except it has been made generic to support the more general case.  Thus, it will work for any delegate where the first argument is an object (the sender) and the second argument is a class derived from EventArgs (the event data). For example, let’s say we wanted to create a message receiver, and we wanted it to have a few events such as OnConnected that will tell us when a connection is established (probably with no additional information) and OnMessageReceived that will tell us when a new message arrives (probably with a string for the new message text). So for OnMessageReceived, our MessageReceivedEventArgs might look like this: 1: public sealed class MessageReceivedEventArgs : EventArgs 2: { 3: public string Message { get; set; } 4: } And since OnConnected needs no event argument type defined, our class might look something like this: 1: public class MessageReceiver 2: { 3: // event that is called when the receiver connects with sender 4: public event EventHandler OnConnected; 5:  6: // event that is called when a new message is received. 7: public event EventHandler<MessageReceivedEventArgs> OnMessageReceived; 8:  9: // ... 10: } Notice, nowhere did we have to define a delegate to fit our event definition, the EventHandler and generic EventHandler<TEventArgs> delegates fit almost anything we’d need to do with events. Sidebar: Thread-safety and raising an event When the time comes to raise an event, we should always check to make sure there are subscribers, and then only raise the event if anyone is subscribed.  This is important because if no one is subscribed to the event, then the instance will be null and we will get a NullReferenceException if we attempt to raise the event. 1: // This protects against NullReferenceException... or does it? 2: if (OnMessageReceived != null) 3: { 4: OnMessageReceived(this, new MessageReceivedEventArgs(aMessage)); 5: } The above code seems to handle the null reference if no one is subscribed, but there’s a problem if this is being used in multi-threaded environments.  For example, assume we have thread A which is about to raise the event, and it checks and clears the null check and is about to raise the event.  However, before it can do that thread B unsubscribes to the event, which sets the delegate to null.  Now, when thread A attempts to raise the event, this causes the NullReferenceException that we were hoping to avoid! To counter this, the simplest best-practice method is to copy the event (just a multicast delegate) to a temporary local variable just before we raise it.  Since we are inside the class where this event is being raised, we can copy it to a local variable like this, and it will protect us from multi-threading since multicast delegates are immutable and assignments are atomic: 1: // always make copy of the event multi-cast delegate before checking 2: // for null to avoid race-condition between the null-check and raising it. 3: var handler = OnMessageReceived; 4: 5: if (handler != null) 6: { 7: handler(this, new MessageReceivedEventArgs(aMessage)); 8: } The very slight trade-off is that it’s possible a class may get an event after it unsubscribes in a multi-threaded environment, but this is a small risk and classes should be prepared for this possibility anyway.  For a more detailed discussion on this, check out this excellent Eric Lippert blog post on Events and Races. Summary Generic delegates give us a lot of power to make generic algorithms and classes, and the EventHandler delegate family gives us the flexibility to create events easily, without needing to redefine delegates over and over.  Use them whenever you need to define events with or without specialized EventArgs.   Tweet Technorati Tags: .NET, C#, CSharp, Little Wonders, Generics, Delegates, EventHandler

  • A DirectoryCatalog class for Silverlight MEF (Managed Extensibility Framework)

    - by Dixin
In the MEF (Managed Extension Framework) for .NET, there are useful ComposablePartCatalog implementations in System.ComponentModel.Composition.dll, like: System.ComponentModel.Composition.Hosting.AggregateCatalog System.ComponentModel.Composition.Hosting.AssemblyCatalog System.ComponentModel.Composition.Hosting.DirectoryCatalog System.ComponentModel.Composition.Hosting.TypeCatalog While in Silverlight, there is a extra System.ComponentModel.Composition.Hosting.DeploymentCatalog. As a wrapper of AssemblyCatalog, it can load all assemblies in a XAP file in the web server side. Unfortunately, in silverlight there is no DirectoryCatalog to load a folder. Background There are scenarios that Silverlight application may need to load all XAP files in a folder in the web server side, for example: If the Silverlight application is extensible and supports plug-ins, there would be a /ClinetBin/Plugins/ folder in the web server, and each pluin would be an individual XAP file in the folder. In this scenario, after the application is loaded and started up, it would like to load all XAP files in /ClinetBin/Plugins/ folder. If the aplication supports themes, there would be a /ClinetBin/Themes/ folder, and each theme would be an individual XAP file too. The application would qalso need to load all XAP files in /ClinetBin/Themes/. It is useful if we have a DirectoryCatalog: DirectoryCatalog catalog = new DirectoryCatalog("/Plugins"); catalog.DownloadCompleted += (sender, e) => { }; catalog.DownloadAsync(); Obviously, the implementation of DirectoryCatalog is easy. It is just a collection of DeploymentCatalog class. Retrieve file list from a directory Of course, to retrieve file list from a web folder, the folder’s “Directory Browsing” feature must be enabled: So when the folder is requested, it responses a list of its files and folders: This is nothing but a simple HTML page: <html> <head> <title>localhost - /Folder/</title> </head> <body> <h1>localhost - /Folder/</h1> <hr> <pre> <a href="/">[To Parent Directory]</a><br> <br> 1/3/2011 7:22 PM 185 <a href="/Folder/File.txt">File.txt</a><br> 1/3/2011 7:22 PM &lt;dir&gt; <a href="/Folder/Folder/">Folder</a><br> </pre> <hr> </body> </html> For the ASP.NET Deployment Server of Visual Studio, directory browsing is enabled by default: The HTML <Body> is almost the same: <body bgcolor="white"> <h2><i>Directory Listing -- /ClientBin/</i></h2> <hr width="100%" size="1" color="silver"> <pre> <a href="/">[To Parent Directory]</a> Thursday, January 27, 2011 11:51 PM 282,538 <a href="Test.xap">Test.xap</a> Tuesday, January 04, 2011 02:06 AM &lt;dir&gt; <a href="TestFolder/">TestFolder</a> </pre> <hr width="100%" size="1" color="silver"> <b>Version Information:</b>&nbsp;ASP.NET Development Server 10.0.0.0 </body> The only difference is, IIS’s links start with slash, but here the links do not. Here one way to get the file list is read the href attributes of the links: [Pure] private IEnumerable<Uri> GetFilesFromDirectory(string html) { Contract.Requires(html != null); Contract.Ensures(Contract.Result<IEnumerable<Uri>>() != null); return new Regex( "<a href=\"(?<uriRelative>[^\"]*)\">[^<]*</a>", RegexOptions.IgnoreCase | RegexOptions.CultureInvariant) .Matches(html) .OfType<Match>() .Where(match => match.Success) .Select(match => match.Groups["uriRelative"].Value) .Where(uriRelative => uriRelative.EndsWith(".xap", StringComparison.Ordinal)) .Select(uriRelative => { Uri baseUri = this.Uri.IsAbsoluteUri ? this.Uri : new Uri(Application.Current.Host.Source, this.Uri); uriRelative = uriRelative.StartsWith("/", StringComparison.Ordinal) ? uriRelative : (baseUri.LocalPath.EndsWith("/", StringComparison.Ordinal) ? baseUri.LocalPath + uriRelative : baseUri.LocalPath + "/" + uriRelative); return new Uri(baseUri, uriRelative); }); } Please notice the folders’ links end with a slash. They are filtered by the second Where() query. The above method can find files’ URIs from the specified IIS folder, or ASP.NET Deployment Server folder while debugging. To support other formats of file list, a constructor is needed to pass into a customized method: /// <summary> /// Initializes a new instance of the <see cref="T:System.ComponentModel.Composition.Hosting.DirectoryCatalog" /> class with <see cref="T:System.ComponentModel.Composition.Primitives.ComposablePartDefinition" /> objects based on all the XAP files in the specified directory URI. /// </summary> /// <param name="uri"> /// URI to the directory to scan for XAPs to add to the catalog. /// The URI must be absolute, or relative to <see cref="P:System.Windows.Interop.SilverlightHost.Source" />. /// </param> /// <param name="getFilesFromDirectory"> /// The method to find files' URIs in the specified directory. /// </param> public DirectoryCatalog(Uri uri, Func<string, IEnumerable<Uri>> getFilesFromDirectory) { Contract.Requires(uri != null); this._uri = uri; this._getFilesFromDirectory = getFilesFromDirectory ?? this.GetFilesFromDirectory; this._webClient = new Lazy<WebClient>(() => new WebClient()); // Initializes other members. } When the getFilesFromDirectory parameter is null, the above GetFilesFromDirectory() method will be used as default. Download the directory’s XAP file list Now a public method can be created to start the downloading: /// <summary> /// Begins downloading the XAP files in the directory. /// </summary> public void DownloadAsync() { this.ThrowIfDisposed(); if (Interlocked.CompareExchange(ref this._state, State.DownloadStarted, State.Created) == 0) { this._webClient.Value.OpenReadCompleted += this.HandleOpenReadCompleted; this._webClient.Value.OpenReadAsync(this.Uri, this); } else { this.MutateStateOrThrow(State.DownloadCompleted, State.Initialized); this.OnDownloadCompleted(new AsyncCompletedEventArgs(null, false, this)); } } Here the HandleOpenReadCompleted() method is invoked when the file list HTML is downloaded. Download all XAP files After retrieving all files’ URIs, the next thing becomes even easier. HandleOpenReadCompleted() just uses built in DeploymentCatalog to download the XAPs, and aggregate them into one AggregateCatalog: private void HandleOpenReadCompleted(object sender, OpenReadCompletedEventArgs e) { Exception error = e.Error; bool cancelled = e.Cancelled; if (Interlocked.CompareExchange(ref this._state, State.DownloadCompleted, State.DownloadStarted) != State.DownloadStarted) { cancelled = true; } if (error == null && !cancelled) { try { using (StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(e.Result)) { string html = reader.ReadToEnd(); IEnumerable<Uri> uris = this._getFilesFromDirectory(html); Contract.Assume(uris != null); IEnumerable<DeploymentCatalog> deploymentCatalogs = uris.Select(uri => new DeploymentCatalog(uri)); deploymentCatalogs.ForEach( deploymentCatalog => { this._aggregateCatalog.Catalogs.Add(deploymentCatalog); deploymentCatalog.DownloadCompleted += this.HandleDownloadCompleted; }); deploymentCatalogs.ForEach(deploymentCatalog => deploymentCatalog.DownloadAsync()); } } catch (Exception exception) { error = new InvalidOperationException(Resources.InvalidOperationException_ErrorReadingDirectory, exception); } } // Exception handling. } In HandleDownloadCompleted(), if all XAPs are downloaded without exception, OnDownloadCompleted() callback method will be invoked. private void HandleDownloadCompleted(object sender, AsyncCompletedEventArgs e) { if (Interlocked.Increment(ref this._downloaded) == this._aggregateCatalog.Catalogs.Count) { this.OnDownloadCompleted(e); } } Exception handling Whether this DirectoryCatelog can work only if the directory browsing feature is enabled. It is important to inform caller when directory cannot be browsed for XAP downloading. private void HandleOpenReadCompleted(object sender, OpenReadCompletedEventArgs e) { Exception error = e.Error; bool cancelled = e.Cancelled; if (Interlocked.CompareExchange(ref this._state, State.DownloadCompleted, State.DownloadStarted) != State.DownloadStarted) { cancelled = true; } if (error == null && !cancelled) { try { // No exception thrown when browsing directory. Downloads the listed XAPs. } catch (Exception exception) { error = new InvalidOperationException(Resources.InvalidOperationException_ErrorReadingDirectory, exception); } } WebException webException = error as WebException; if (webException != null) { HttpWebResponse webResponse = webException.Response as HttpWebResponse; if (webResponse != null) { // Internally, WebClient uses WebRequest.Create() to create the WebRequest object. Here does the same thing. WebRequest request = WebRequest.Create(Application.Current.Host.Source); Contract.Assume(request != null); if (request.CreatorInstance == WebRequestCreator.ClientHttp && // Silverlight is in client HTTP handling, all HTTP status codes are supported. webResponse.StatusCode == HttpStatusCode.Forbidden) { // When directory browsing is disabled, the HTTP status code is 403 (forbidden). error = new InvalidOperationException( Resources.InvalidOperationException_ErrorListingDirectory_ClientHttp, webException); } else if (request.CreatorInstance == WebRequestCreator.BrowserHttp && // Silverlight is in browser HTTP handling, only 200 and 404 are supported. webResponse.StatusCode == HttpStatusCode.NotFound) { // When directory browsing is disabled, the HTTP status code is 404 (not found). error = new InvalidOperationException( Resources.InvalidOperationException_ErrorListingDirectory_BrowserHttp, webException); } } } this.OnDownloadCompleted(new AsyncCompletedEventArgs(error, cancelled, this)); } Please notice Silverlight 3+ application can work either in client HTTP handling, or browser HTTP handling. One difference is: In browser HTTP handling, only HTTP status code 200 (OK) and 404 (not OK, including 500, 403, etc.) are supported In client HTTP handling, all HTTP status code are supported So in above code, exceptions in 2 modes are handled differently. Conclusion Here is the whole DirectoryCatelog’s looking: Please click here to download the source code, a simple unit test is included. This is a rough implementation. And, for convenience, some design and coding are just following the built in AggregateCatalog class and Deployment class. Please feel free to modify the code, and please kindly tell me if any issue is found.

  • A WPF Image Button

    - by psheriff
Instead of a normal button with words, sometimes you want a button that is just graphical. Yes, you can put an Image control in the Content of a normal Button control, but you still have the button outline, and trying to change the style can be rather difficult. Instead I like creating a user control that simulates a button, but just accepts an image. Figure 1 shows an example of three of these custom user controls to represent minimize, maximize and close buttons for a borderless window. Notice the highlighted image button has a gray rectangle around it. You will learn how to highlight using the VisualStateManager in this blog post.Figure 1: Creating a custom user control for things like image buttons gives you complete control over the look and feel.I would suggest you read my previous blog post on creating a custom Button user control as that is a good primer for what I am going to expand upon in this blog post. You can find this blog post at http://weblogs.asp.net/psheriff/archive/2012/08/10/create-your-own-wpf-button-user-controls.aspx.The User ControlThe XAML for this image button user control contains just a few controls, plus a Visual State Manager. The basic outline of the user control is shown below:<Border Grid.Row="0"        Name="borMain"        Style="{StaticResource pdsaButtonImageBorderStyle}"        MouseEnter="borMain_MouseEnter"        MouseLeave="borMain_MouseLeave"        MouseLeftButtonDown="borMain_MouseLeftButtonDown">  <VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>  ... MORE XAML HERE ...  </VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>  <Image Style="{StaticResource pdsaButtonImageImageStyle}"         Visibility="{Binding Path=Visibility}"         Source="{Binding Path=ImageUri}"         ToolTip="{Binding Path=ToolTip}" /></Border>There is a Border control named borMain and a single Image control in this user control. That is all that is needed to display the buttons shown in Figure 1. The definition for this user control is in a DLL named PDSA.WPF. The Style definitions for both the Border and the Image controls are contained in a resource dictionary names PDSAButtonStyles.xaml. Using a resource dictionary allows you to create a few different resource dictionaries, each with a different theme for the buttons. The Visual State ManagerTo display the highlight around the button as your mouse moves over the control, you will need to add a Visual State Manager group. Two different states are needed; MouseEnter and MouseLeave. In the MouseEnter you create a ColorAnimation to modify the BorderBrush color of the Border control. You specify the color to animate as “DarkGray”. You set the duration to less than a second. The TargetName of this storyboard is the name of the Border control “borMain” and since we are specifying a single color, you need to set the TargetProperty to “BorderBrush.Color”. You do not need any storyboard for the MouseLeave state. Leaving this VisualState empty tells the Visual State Manager to put everything back the way it was before the MouseEnter event.<VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>  <VisualStateGroup Name="MouseStates">    <VisualState Name="MouseEnter">      <Storyboard>        <ColorAnimation             To="DarkGray"            Duration="0:0:00.1"            Storyboard.TargetName="borMain"            Storyboard.TargetProperty="BorderBrush.Color" />      </Storyboard>    </VisualState>    <VisualState Name="MouseLeave" />  </VisualStateGroup></VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>Writing the Mouse EventsTo trigger the Visual State Manager to run its storyboard in response to the specified event, you need to respond to the MouseEnter event on the Border control. In the code behind for this event call the GoToElementState() method of the VisualStateManager class exposed by the user control. To this method you will pass in the target element (“borMain”) and the state (“MouseEnter”). The VisualStateManager will then run the storyboard contained within the defined state in the XAML.private void borMain_MouseEnter(object sender,  MouseEventArgs e){  VisualStateManager.GoToElementState(borMain,    "MouseEnter", true);}You also need to respond to the MouseLeave event. In this event you call the VisualStateManager as well, but specify “MouseLeave” as the state to go to.private void borMain_MouseLeave(object sender, MouseEventArgs e){  VisualStateManager.GoToElementState(borMain,     "MouseLeave", true);}The Resource DictionaryBelow is the definition of the PDSAButtonStyles.xaml resource dictionary file contained in the PDSA.WPF DLL. This dictionary can be used as the default look and feel for any image button control you add to a window. <ResourceDictionary  ... >  <!-- ************************* -->  <!-- ** Image Button Styles ** -->  <!-- ************************* -->  <!-- Image/Text Button Border -->  <Style TargetType="Border"         x:Key="pdsaButtonImageBorderStyle">    <Setter Property="Margin"            Value="4" />    <Setter Property="Padding"            Value="2" />    <Setter Property="BorderBrush"            Value="Transparent" />    <Setter Property="BorderThickness"            Value="1" />    <Setter Property="VerticalAlignment"            Value="Top" />    <Setter Property="HorizontalAlignment"            Value="Left" />    <Setter Property="Background"            Value="Transparent" />  </Style>  <!-- Image Button -->  <Style TargetType="Image"         x:Key="pdsaButtonImageImageStyle">    <Setter Property="Width"            Value="40" />    <Setter Property="Margin"            Value="6" />    <Setter Property="VerticalAlignment"            Value="Top" />    <Setter Property="HorizontalAlignment"            Value="Left" />  </Style></ResourceDictionary>Using the Button ControlOnce you make a reference to the PDSA.WPF DLL from your WPF application you will see the “PDSAucButtonImage” control appear in your Toolbox. Drag and drop the button onto a Window or User Control in your application. I have not referenced the PDSAButtonStyles.xaml file within the control itself so you do need to add a reference to this resource dictionary somewhere in your application such as in the App.xaml.<Application.Resources>  <ResourceDictionary>    <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries>      <ResourceDictionary         Source="/PDSA.WPF;component/PDSAButtonStyles.xaml" />    </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries>  </ResourceDictionary></Application.Resources>This will give your buttons a default look and feel unless you override that dictionary on a specific Window or User Control or on an individual button. After you have given a global style to your application and you drag your image button onto a window, the following will appear in your XAML window.<my:PDSAucButtonImage ... />There will be some other attributes set on the above XAML, but you simply need to set the x:Name, the ToolTip and ImageUri properties. You will also want to respond to the Click event procedure in order to associate an action with clicking on this button. In the sample code you download for this blog post you will find the declaration of the Minimize button to be the following:<my:PDSAucButtonImage       x:Name="btnMinimize"       Click="btnMinimize_Click"       ToolTip="Minimize Application"       ImageUri="/PDSA.WPF;component/Images/Minus.png" />The ImageUri property is a dependency property in the PDSAucButtonImage user control. The x:Name and the ToolTip we get for free. You have to create the Click event procedure yourself. This is also created in the PDSAucButtonImage user control as follows:private void borMain_MouseLeftButtonDown(object sender,  MouseButtonEventArgs e){  RaiseClick(e);}public delegate void ClickEventHandler(object sender,  RoutedEventArgs e);public event ClickEventHandler Click;protected void RaiseClick(RoutedEventArgs e){  if (null != Click)    Click(this, e);}Since a Border control does not have a Click event you will create one by using the MouseLeftButtonDown on the border to fire an event you create called “Click”.SummaryCreating your own image button control can be done in a variety of ways. In this blog post I showed you how to create a custom user control and simulate a button using a Border and Image control. With just a little bit of code to respond to the MouseLeftButtonDown event on the border you can raise your own Click event. Dependency properties, such as ImageUri, allow you to set attributes on your custom user control. Feel free to expand on this button by adding additional dependency properties, change the resource dictionary, and even the animation to make this button look and act like you want.NOTE: You can download the sample code for this article by visiting my website at http://www.pdsa.com/downloads. • How do I stop someone using my domain for Spam emails?

    - by Vizioz Limited
Hi Blog Readers,Every now and then I seem to have one of those low life Viagra sellers using my domain for spam emailing people.I have done everything I can think of to try and prevent then from doing this, but they seem to keep doing it. I just wondered if anyone out there new of a way to stop them? The headers from one of the bounce backs look like this:Return-Path: <[email protected]>Received: from rctp.telecomitalia.it (host49-133-dynamic.52-82-r.retail.telecomitalia.it[82.52.133.49]) by mx.google.com with SMTP id o8si307731weq.161.2010.07.23.05.33.53; Fri, 23 Jul 2010 05:33:59 -0700 (PDT)Received-SPF: fail (google.com: domain of [email protected] does not designate 82.52.133.49 as permitted sender) client-ip=82.52.133.49;Authentication-Results: mx.google.com; spf=hardfail (google.com: domain of [email protected] does not designate 82.52.133.49 as permitted sender) [email protected]: <[email protected]>Date: Fri, 23 Jul 2010 14:33:52 +0200From: Garnett Mckinnie <[email protected]>MIME-Version: 1.0To: NAME REMOVE <[email protected]>Subject: Where we are well established we areAs you can see from the headers, I have setup the SPF record and it is receiving a "hardfail"We are using Google Apps for our email hosting, so you'd kinda hope that they have got things pretty much secured down, so what I am missing? Or is it always going to be possible for other people to fake sending emails using another domain?

  • Design Application to "Actively" Invite Users (pretend they have privileges)

    - by user3086451
I am designing an application where users message one another privately, and may send messages to any Entity in the database (an Entity may not have a user account yet, it is a professional database). I am not sure how to best design the database and the API to allow messaging unregistered users. The application should remain secure, and data only accessed by those with correct permissions. Messages sent to persons without user accounts serve as an invitation. The invited person should be able to view the message, act on it, and complete the user registration upon receiving an InviteMessage. In simple terms, I have: User misc user fields (email, pw, dateJoined) Entity (large professional dataset): personalDetails... user->User (may be null) UserMessage: sender->User recipient->User dateCreated messageContent, other fields..... InviteMessage: sender->User recipient->Entity expiringUrl inviteeEmail inviteePhone I plan to alert the user when selecting a recipient that is not registered yet, and inform that he may send the message as an invitation by providing email, phone where we can send the invitation. Invitations will have a unique, one-time-use URL, e.g. uuid.uuid4(). When accessed, the invitee will see the InviteMessage and details about completing his/her registration profile. When registration is complete, InviteMessage details to a new instance of UserMessage (to not lose their data), and assign it to the newly created User. The ability to interact with and invite persons who do not yet have accounts is a key feature of the application, and it seems better to separate the invitation from the private, app messages (easier to keep functionality separate, better if data model changes). Is this a reasonable, good design? If not, what would you suggest? Do you have any improvements? Am I correct to choose to create a separate endpoint for creating invitations via the API?

  • What causes critical glib errors (when coding using messaging menu)?

    - by fluteflute
If I run the python code below (almost entirely from this useful blog post) then I get three identical nasty looking error messages in the terminal. What might be causing them? I note the number (5857 in the example below) changes slightly on each run. What does this number signify? Is it a memory location or something similar? (messaging-menu.py:5857): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_dbus_method_invocation_return_dbus_error: assertion `error_name != NULL && g_dbus_is_name (error_name)' failed (messaging-menu.py:5857): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_dbus_method_invocation_return_dbus_error: assertion `error_name != NULL && g_dbus_is_name (error_name)' failed (messaging-menu.py:5857): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_dbus_method_invocation_return_dbus_error: assertion `error_name != NULL && g_dbus_is_name (error_name)' failed I'm running this on Natty, I should probably find out if I get the same errors in 10.10 though... import gtk def show_window_function(x, y): print x print y # get the indicate module, which does all the work import indicate # Create a server item mm = indicate.indicate_server_ref_default() # If someone clicks your server item in the MM, fire the server-display signal mm.connect("server-display", show_window_function) # Set the type of messages that your item uses. • Bing Maps WPF Hack

    - by Chris Gardner
I've spent the past couple of days adding the Bing Maps WFP Control to an application I'm developing. I kept running into a strange thing that was driving me crazy. I have the control in the bottom of a StackPanel, under a Grid. No matter how hard I tried, setting the Height of the Bing control to Auto would cause the ActualHeight to always be 60.93. Now, I still don't know why this is happening. Truth be told, I'm not too sure I care. I did, however, find a reasonable hack around the problem. I do know the size of everything else. As such, I tied into the SizeChanged Event of the StackPanel. Using this, I could set the Height to the correct size based on the new size of the panel. private void ResizeMap( object sender, SizeChangedEventArgs e ) { myMap.Height = ((StackPanel)sender).ActualHeight - 75.0; } The hard-coded number is was because I had a fixed height of controls above my map. If you have dynamic elements, you could easily iterate through them and delete out the portions. So, there you have it. It's not much, but it annoyed the Smurf out of me for a brief period of time. Since I never found an answer, I figured I'd share.

  • What is the aim of this email? Is this a ping/sping? [closed]

    - by mplungjan
Hi, I received this spam in my catch-all. As a webmaster of the domain it was sent to, I am really curious what the reason for this mail is. It was sent to a non-existent user "tania" on my domain - here I used mydomain.zzz - what do the sender want to achieve? Since many mail servers have stopped backscattering, not getting a bounce would not mean anything, would it? And if this is off topic, where inb the StackExchange WOULD it be on topic? • postfix-dovecot email sending works with squirrel mail but not with Thunderbird?

    - by Mark S.
I have setup an intranet email system using postfix, dovecot and squirrel mail, Which is working fine, I can send and receive mail to all users on the system. I presume that the issue is in the postfix configuration, because when I configure Thunderbird to send mail I am getting the following error: An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 4.1.8 <[email protected]>: Sender address rejected: Domain not found. Please check the message recipient [email protected] and try again. Also here is the relevant syslog entries: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from host1.intranetdomain.com [More Information] [192.168.11.1 [More Information] ]: 450 4.1.8 <[email protected]>: Sender address rejected: Domain not found; from=<[email protected]> to=<[email protected]> proto=ESMTP helo=<[127.0.0.1 [More Information] ]> I have configured MX records on the DNS server and they respond appropriately when I query them for those MX records, so I do not think that is the issue. I think that my issue is caused by the default configuration of: smtpd_recipient_restrictions = reject_unknown_sender_domain, reject_unknown_recipient_domain, reject_unauth_pipelining, permit_mynetworks, permit_sasl_authenticated, reject_unauth_destination smtpd_sender_restrictions = reject_unknown_sender_domain Since this is on an internal network and it will not be exposed to the internet as a whole which options can I remove safely?

  • Connection String Incorrectly Formatted [migrated]

    - by Randy E
I'm running into some issues. Every time I launch into debug mode and hit the "Create User" button, I'm getting an exception being thrown that is due to the Connection String either being in the wrong syntax or just wrong. Using Visual Studio 2010, project is .NET 3.5 with SQL 2008 Express. This is just a personal project that I'm testing some other things with, I know this generally isn't the recommended format but for a personal small project, I don't see the point in doing it any other way. The things I'm testing actually work :) Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|Data Directory|ASPAppDatabase.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True That doesn't work. Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="|Data Directory|ASPAppDatabase.mdf";Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True Neither does that. Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename='|Data Directory|ASPAppDatabase.mdf';Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True And again, neither does that :/ However, rather than using "|Data directory| if I use the full path to the local DB file it works just fine and no exception is thrown, and I can read and write as I need. And just to cover all my bases, here is the button click event that creates the User. protected void btnAddUser_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Membership.CreateUser(txtUserName.Text, txtPassword.Text); btnLogin_Click(sender, e); } So, what am I missing in regards to the |Data Directory|? Here is an example of the above not working correctly..taken directly from web.config. <add name="ASPAppDatabaseConnection" connectionString='Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|ASPAppDatabase.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True'/>

  • cocos2d event handler not fired when reentering scene

    - by Adam Freund
    I am encountering a very strange problem with my cocos2d app. I add a sprite to the page and have an event handler linked to it which replaces the scene with another scene. On that page I have another button to take me back to the original scene. When I am back on the original scene, the eventHandler doesn't get fired when I click on the sprite. Below is the relevant code. Thanks for any help! CCMenuItemImage *backBtnImg = [CCMenuItemImage itemWithNormalImage:@"btn_back.png" selectedImage:@"btn_back_pressed.png" target:self selector:@selector(backButtonTapped:)]; backBtnImg.position = ccp(45, 286); CCMenu *backBtn = [CCMenu menuWithItems:backBtnImg, nil]; backBtn.position = CGPointZero; [self addChild:backBtn]; EventHandler method (doesn't get called when the scene is re-entered). (void)backButtonTapped:(id)sender { NSLog(@"backButtonTapped\n"); CCMenuItemImage *backButton = (CCMenuItemImage *)sender; [backButton setNormalImage:[CCSprite spriteWithFile:@"btn_back_pressed.png"]]; [[CCDirector sharedDirector] replaceScene:[CCTransitionFade transitionWithDuration:.25 scene:[MenuView scene] withColor:ccBLACK]]; }
