  • Does CAS Support Application Level Impersonation?

    I have a PHP application that is successfully authenticating against a CAS server. One of the features supported by the application is impersonation; a user with the appropriate privileges can impersonate another of the application. Generally, this isn't a problem because the app itself can keep track of who the user is impersonating and manage privileges (which are based on username). A new requirement has come up, though, that requires the original app to include, via an iframe, content from a second PHP app that is also CAS-enabled. Somehow, I need for the second app to know whether impersonation is happening in the first. I don't want to pass usernames around for security reasons, so I'm wondering whether I can offload the responsibility for handling impersonation to the CAS server which is shared by both apps.     I have been asked to look into porting some code from a web app under IBM WAS 7 so that it will run under Tomcat 7.   • virtualenvwrapper .hook problem

    I've used virtualenvwrapper, but I'm having problems running it on a new computer. My .bashrc file is updated per the instructions: export WORKON_HOME=$DEV_HOME/projects source /usr/local/bin/virtualenvwrapper.sh But when source is run, I get the following: bash: /25009.hook: Permission denied bash: /25009.hook: No such file or directory This previous post leads me to believe the filename is being recycled and locked because virtualenvwrapper.sh uses $$. Is there any way to fix this?

While I might understand that they are used to simplify some parts of this workflow can someone enumerate the pluses and minuses of using one of these authentication mechanisms vs. an usual user creation and what should I look for when I do this?   • Ubuntu/Nvidia lists DVI dual cable as single

    I have an NVidia Quadro FX 880M graphics card, from which I am trying to drive 2 monitors: my internal laptop montior (15.6", 1920x1080, Nvidia driver says it's running via DisplayPort) and an external 27" monitor (Dell U2711, 2560x1440 native resolution, via DVI). I've hooked the dual DVI cable to the dual DVI port on my dock (Dell PR03X) and installed the proprietary NVidia driver, but I cannot seem to get the full 2560x1440 out of the larger 27" external monitor. Looking at the NVidia driver settings, the monitor's connection is reported as a single DVI cable, rather than a dual one, which would explain the reduced resolution. Does anyone have any experience with an issue like this? What can I do to make full use of my new monitor? (Possibly) Relevant Information: There is no DVI port on the laptop itself, but one is provided via the dock. The laptop and dock both provide a DisplayPort jack, but I have been unable to get this working on either w/ the monitor. I did have the nouveau driver installed when I installed the nvidia proprietary driver, but have since removed it (no change in the monitor situation when I removed it). The 27" reports a max resolution of 1680x1050. Thanks, Joe

  • Kerberos authentication not working for one single domain

    We have a strange problem regarding Kerberos authentication with Apache mod_auth_kerb. We use a very simple krb5.conf, where only a single (main) AD server is configured. There are many domains in the forest, and it seems that SSO is working for most of them, except one.   • Phusion Passenger (Apache, Sinatra) suddenly not working for a single site on my server

    I've had Phusion Passenger working for a few of my sites for months. Then, today, it stopped working for a single site. I hadn't changed anything (I hadn't even SSH'ed into the server for a week), and everything is set up the way it should for it to work. Plus, it's working fine for other sites! I'm about to pull my hair out trying to find out what's wrong, so I was hoping y'all could help. Passenger is not working on kerricklong.com -- I only get the "It works!" Apache default page. If I look at the headers, it's not even serving the X-Powered-By: Phusion Passenger (mod_rails/mod_rack) header that I get on my other (currently working) Passenger-powered sites on the same server running Ubuntu Server 10.04. The following is in my /etc/apache2/sites-available/kerricklong.com file, but it's identical (with names and paths changed) to the configuration file for the site that is working. <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName kerricklong.com ServerAlias *.kerricklong.com DocumentRoot /redacted/path/to/kerricklong.com/public ErrorLog /redacted/path/to/kerricklong.com/logs/error.log <Directory /redacted/path/to/kerricklong.com/public> Allow from all Options -MultiViews Include /etc/apache2/h5bp.conf </Directory> php_flag engine off </VirtualHost> I've got the necessary tmp/, logs/, and public/ directories, along with config.ru.   • Problem with single quotes in man pages

    When I ssh into my Debian Lenny server and open a man page, single quotes appear to be messed up. Example from the man page of apt-get: If no package matches the given expression and the expression contains one of ´.´, ´?´ or ´*´ then it is assumed to be a POSIX regular expression, and it is applied to all package names in the database. Any matches are then installed (or removed). Note that matching is done by substring so ´lo.*´ matches ´how-lo´ and ´lowest´. If this is undesired, anchor the regular expression with a ´^´ or ´$´ character, or create a more specific regular expression. I'm on Mac OS X and using xterm. If I use Terminal, the problem doesn't happen. My locale is configured correctly as far as I can see: $ locale LANG=en_US.UTF-8 LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8" LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8" LC_TIME="en_US.UTF-8" LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8" LC_MONETARY="en_US.UTF-8" LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8" LC_PAPER="en_US.UTF-8" LC_NAME="en_US.UTF-8" LC_ADDRESS="en_US.UTF-8" LC_TELEPHONE="en_US.UTF-8" LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US.UTF-8" LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US.UTF-8" LC_ALL= I'm not sure what's wrong with my environment, and I have no idea what to check next.   • Configuring DNS and IIS for multiple domains on a single server

    I might be over complicating this but...I am hosting several websites and dns for the domains on a single server: domain1.net domain1.com domain2.net I have three items which I'm trying to work out whether to achieve by DNS, by IIS hostnames(bindings), or by IIS redirect. 1. Where I have domain1.net and domain1.com, I want everything from both (all emails and web requests) to just point to the domain1.net. Can I do this at the DNS level, or do I have to set up the email as forwarders on the email server and the domain as a hostname in IIS? For example: [email protected] [email protected] www.domain1.com www.domain1.net 2. I want to make sure that requests for domain1.net and www.domain1.net both resolve to the same place. Should this be done with DNS or with multiple hostnames, or with IIS redirects? 3. If I then want to have one webmail site serving all of domains (webmail.domain1.net, webmail.domain2.net), is it best to this with a cname in DNS or with host headers in IIS?

  • URL Redirect Configuration in Virtualhost for a Single Page Web Application

    I have a web application under development that I am running locally. The home page of the application is fetched with the following url: http://local.dev/myapp/index.shtml When the app runs, javascript on the webpage maintains the url and the app state internally. Some of the other urls read as: http://local.dev/myapp/results?param1=val1&param2=val2 http://local.dev/myapp/someResource Note that there are no pages named results.html or someResource.html on my web server. They are just made up URLs to simulate RESTfulness in the single page app. All the app code - javascript, css etc - is present in the index.shtml file So, essentially, the question is how can I redirect all requests to the first URL above?   • AWS: Multi-region setup using single RDS instance

    I'm trying to scale our web application (PHP, MySQL, memcache) in a multi-region scheme. Currently we are using a setup with two EC2 instances behind an ELB and an RDS instance, all of them in US-EAST (Virginia) region. We would like to have a presence in the EU (Ireland) region as well. This means at least a new EC2 instance there (identical to the others, serving the same application). I have copied the desired AMI, setup the new instance, setup a same ELB configuration (required for SSL termination) and configured latency-based routing in Route53. And it works as suggested. But, clients from EU have speed problems. This is due to the fact that the EU EC2 instances connect to the US-based RDS instance. As far as I know Amazon has not yet enabled RDS multi-region replication. Do you have any suggestions on how to properly speed up the whole setup while using the single RDS instance? Also, any ideas in general on how to scale things up? Ideally we would like to continue using the RDS technology for various reasons. Nevertheless, I am open to suggestions (I guess the next idea would be to host our own MySQL servers).

  • Which revision control system for single user

    I'm looking to set up a revision control system with me as a single user. I'd like to have access (read and write) protected using SSL, little overhead, and preferrably a simple setup. I'm looking to do this on my own server, so I don't want to use the option of registering with some professional provider of such a service (I like having direct control over my data; also, I'd like to know how to set up something like that). As far as I'm aware, what kind of project I want to subject to revision control doesn't really matter, but just for completeness' sake, I'm planning on using this for Java project, some html/css/php stuff, and in the future possibly as a synchronizing tool for small data bases (ignore that later one if it doesn't fit in with the paradigm of revision control). My questions primarily arise from the fact that I only ever used Subversion from Eclipse, so I don't have thorough knowledge of what's out there, what fits better for which needs, etc. So far I've heard of Subversion, Git, Mercurial, but I'm open to any system that's widely used and well supported. My server is running Ubuntu 11.10. Which system should I choose, what are the advantages of the respective systems, and if you know of any particularly useful ones, are there tutorials regarding the setup of the system I should choose that you could recommend?

  • Several web applications on a single port

    We're developing an online browser-based game. The game itself is a plugin in the web page, that uses TCP connection to a game server, and also sends http requests to "content server" web application. This makes 3 servers total: the site itself, game server and content server. Site and content server are IIS web applications, game server is a custom application communicating over TCP with proprietary protocol. While the game is in beta stage, all these servers are physically hosted on a single machine, and distinguished by ports. For example, website is game.example.com:80, game server is game.example.com:34285 and content server is game.example.com:50000. This works OK most of the time, but some of our players have ports other than 80 closed. Is there any way to make all these application work through port 80, while still having them one one physical server? Maybe using different sub-domains? There's probably a way to make IIS forward requests to different web applications based on URL alone, but that doesn't help with game server. Edit Server is Windows Server 2008, IIS 7
