  • Difficulties of transforming a Java program to another language (or vice versa)

    Is there anything simple Java can't do that can be done in a similar language or vice versa? Lets say you have a piece of software in language X and you rewrite it entirely to Java (or the other way around), what are the little things that would seriously hamper the translation? At first I was thinking of comprehensions or multiple exit loops, but these are easily rewritten with a for_each loop with an if statement and a local variable respectively. Maybe Exceptions? But which language does not have a similar construct? Polymorphism? But I don't see how I could show that in a few lines. I'm looking for a short and sweet example, that would give some serious headache to work around.

  • Software licensing template that gives room for restricting usage to certain industries/uses of software/source

    *Why this question is not a duplicate of the questions specified as such: I did not ask if there was a license that restricted specific uses and I did not ask if I could rewrite every line of any open source project. I asked very specifically: "Does there exist X? If not, can I Y with Z?". As far as I can tell, the two questions that were specified as duplicates do not answer my specific question. Please remove the duplicate status placed on the question. I'm developing some software that I would like to be "semi" open source. I would like to allow for anyone to use my software/source unless they are using the software/source for certain purposes. For example, I don't want to allow usage of the software/source if it is being used to create, distribute, view or otherwise support pornography, illegal purposes, etc. I'm no lawyer and couldn't ever hope to write a license myself nor do I have to time to figure how to best do this. My question is this: Does there exist a freely available license or a template for a license that I can use to license my software under they conditions explained above just like one can use the Creative Commons licenses? If not, am I allowed to just alter one of Creative Commons licenses to meet my needs?

  • Source Browsing in FireFox

    Source Browsing in FireFox Just casually observed this a few minutes back with my Mozilla Firefox 3.6.3. When you do a view source of any  page in Internet Explorer it just renders as editable inoperative HTML. However in Firefox the hyperlinks are shown clickable and active. When you click on any hyperlink the most obvious and expected output would be that the target page would appear in one of the new tab in the parent browser. However the View Source window refreshed with the HTML source of the new page. I believe this gesture of Firefox would help us to take a journey back into Lynx Text Browsing in a way.

    Installed SharePoint Services v3 (SP2, october 2009 cumulative updates, Language Pack), attached to a content database I had previously (all works). Installed Search server 2008 Express (with language pack) on top of WSS and crawl does not work. However it works for newly created web application + database. Was playing around with accounts, permissions to try get it working. Currently I have WSS_Crawler account with such permissions: Office Search Server runs with WSS_Crawler account Config database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler Content database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler WSS_Crawler is owner of search database. Added WSS_Crawler to SQL server browser user group and administrator Yes, i'v given more permissions than needed, but it doesn't even work with that and i don't know if its permission problem or what. Crawl log says there is Error in the Site Data Web Service., nothing more. There were known issues with a similar error: Error in the Site Data Web Service. (Value does not fall within the expected range.), but this is not the case as thats an old issue and i hope it has been included in SP2... Logs are from olders to newest (descending order). They don't appear to be very helpful.   • RAID-1 and regular drive removal (using RAID-1 as a backup measure)

    Is using mdadm's RAID-1 of 2 partitions (one on laptop's internal HDD, one on external HDD) a good idea. I want the system to work as RAID-1 if both drives are present, work as regular volume (degradad RAID-1) if external HDD is unplugged and quickly resync when I plug external HDD again. Questions: Is it a good idea? Will write-intent bitmap be enough for this task or I need something else? Should I consider doing it at filesystem level (3b. if yes, how?). Basic requirements are: Quick resync when I re-add the external drive (provided I hasn't changed that partition). More or less consistent data on the removed drive if I remove it not during write/resync operation. If I remove the drive during resync I expect the data to be somewhat inconsistent, but expect quick resync completion when I re-add it again. E.g. I want the the remaining drive to track what is changed (there can be a lot of changes) and that sync back only those parts that need it.

  • Trouble installing Lagarith Lossless Codec (Codec Removal?)

    I had been using the Lagarith Lossless Codec with camstudio on Windows XP Pro SP3 for a little while before I switched to Ubuntu. Now I'm back trying to do something on windows and the codec is now missing. I tried to install it via the .exe and even manually with the .inf but it's not being listed by camstudio as installed. I'm wondering if one of the other codecs I installed might have messed with it and yet some of the files are still fine so whatever method the installers use to check for existing files before install is returning positive and not re-installing it. How can I get Lagarith to work again? Maybe I need to know how to uninstall codecs.

  • Complete removal of Oracle Developer Suite 10g from Windows XP (SP3)

    Does anyone know how to remove/uninstall Oracle Developer Suite 10g from Windows XP (SP3) ? It's not appearing in the "Add or Remove Programs" list and it doesn't have a built-in uninstaller. I've googled around for how to do this, and basically, everyone says to run the Oracle Universal Installer shipped with every Oracle product. I've tried to run it from the Oracle Developer Suite 10g installation kit, but it crashes. Anyone got any ideas?

  • Sun Tool-less Slide Rails Removal for X4150

    I have some tool-less slide rails for some 1ru x4150 sun servers. I can't seem to see how to remove them. Sun in their wisdom did not include this seemingly important information in their documentation; they simply (possibly with a cheeky smile) say to... "Refer to the (long since lost) installation card included with the rackmount kit for instructions on attaching tool-less slide-rail assemblies to the rack." So if anyone knows please let me know.

    I'm looking for a tool that allows me to easily re-wrap text (i.e. remove line breaks, but not paragraph breaks from a text selection or the current text field that is being edited), and that works at least with text fields in my browser (Chrome) and on Windows. Bonus points for anything that works outside the browser, and that works in-place (i.e. that doesn't require copy-pasting the text through a separate window or using something like http://www.textfixer.com/tools/remove-line-breaks.php) Browser extensions, GreaseMonkey scripts or applications that also work on Linux and/or Mac (or even better, that are multi-platform) are all welcomed.     An easy way to tell CVS to ignore these directories is to create a file named .cvsignore (note the leading period) in your top-level source directory Has anyone verified this with vss? Plus,does vss have these similar command lines: * To refresh the state of your source code to that stored in the the source repository, go to your project source directory, and execute cvs update -dP. * When you create a new subdirectory in the source code hierarchy, register it in CVS with a command like cvs add {subdirname}. * When you first create a new source code file, navigate to the directory that contains it, and register the new file with a command like cvs add {filename}. * If you no longer need a particular source code file, navigate to the containing directory and remove the file. Then, deregister it in CVS with a command like cvs remove {filename}. * While you are creating, modifying, and deleting source files, changes are not yet reflected in the server repository. To save your changes in their current state, go to the project source directory and execute cvs commit. You will be asked to write a brief description of the changes you have just completed, which will be stored with the new version of any updated source file.

  • IIS ASP Redirect Removal

    We have a website that is setup on IIS 7 and are trying to replace it with a new site, but need a redirect that is in place removed. The old site used a custom file as the homepage (WN-main.asp). We removed all the old site files, including web.config, and placed them in a subdirectory for safe keeping. The new site no longer uses ASP, and we'd like to use a regular index.html as the default. However, when we go to the website, it keeps trying to redirect our .com to .com/WN-main.asp -- and that gives us a 404 Error in the Application for "Default Web Site" because we removed that page. In the IIS "Default Document" settings we have index.html at the top, and WN-main.asp is nowhere to be found in the list (it never was there). We've also removed the web.config file from the root directory, and put the entire old website in a subdirectory. As well as restarted IIS. We're assuming that the redirect is setup somewhere in IIS because if I navigate to .com/index.html which is our new site, it works. Our problem is that oursite.com redirects to oursite.com/WN-main.asp. Grr. If you go to www.worzalla.com you can see how it redirects to the WN-main.asp page right now as the homepage. Any ideas where this redirect could have been setup so we can remove it? Thanks!

  • Exchange 2010 CAS Removal == Broken???

    Hi there, I recently upgraded to exchange 2010 and have a setup with 2 of my servers running CAS roles - EXCH01, EXCH02 EXCH02 just happens to also have a mailbox role where a lot of the users sit EXCH01 is my front facing CAS server, and is facing the net with SSL etc and incoming mail moving through it as a hub transport layer server as well. As i was trying to lean things out in my VM environment i removed the CAS role from EXCH02 and all hell broke loose. All the mail users that have a mailbox on EXCH02 had their homeMTA set to a deleted items folder in AD and so did their msExchHomeServer properties. After a complete battle i manually fixed these issues to the oldvalues, and in the mean time reinstalled CAS on EXCH02 (management was going nuts with out OUTLOOK working so i just put things back the way they were in a hurry.) I must add as a strange thing on the side, that before i reset these to point at EXCH02 i tried EXCH01 and it failed. I still want to remove the CAS role from EXCH02 as it should really not have it (error on install/planning on my part) and would have thought that this would not cause the issues it did, i assumed that the fact that there was another CAS server in the admin group all would be good. Was i wrong in my assumption? and what can i do to complete this successfully the second time round? Do i need to rehome all the mailboxes to the CAS server? is this a bug in the role uninstall?

  • Restore "lost" user after Active Directory removal?

    Is it possible to restore lost users after Active Directory unistallation ? (I forgot to switch users to local users) The computer run Windows Server 2008 R2 Entreprise, and all the registry linked to the user i want to restore seems to still be there, user's folder is still on the harddrive, and useraccount2 still show the user (But flagged as unknown user) Some folders still have rigts set to this lost user, and even the local default Admin account cannot open/delete the folder. (But the real problem here is to find how to recover users account, the folder can be deleted an other way) All users i want te restore was originaly local users, converted to domain users after Active Directory installation. I think that if i can change user's sid (choosing the sid manually) i'll be able to easily recover rights on folders Regards
