• Empty rewrite.log on Windows, RewriteLogLevel is in httpd.conf

  I am using mod_rewrite on Apache 2.2, Windows 7, and it is working ... except I don't see any logging information. I added these lines to the end of my httpd.conf: RewriteLog "c:\wamp\logs\rewrite.log" RewriteLogLevel 9 The log file is created when Apache starts (so it's not a permission problem), but it remains empty. I thought there might be a conflicting RewriteLogLevel statement somewhere, but I checked and there isn't. What else could cause this? Could this be caused by Apache not flushing the log file? • Is there any proper documentation for mod-evasive?

  mod_evasive20 is one of the loaded modules on my httpd server. I read good things about how it can stop a DOS attack and wanted to try it out on my localhost. A search for mod_evasive turns up a blog post by the author which briefly describes what it does. Other than that, I can't seem to find a reference or a documentation on the apache modules site. I was wondering whether it is a module recognised by Apache since there is no mention of it on its website. I have a mod_evasive.conf file sitting in the /etc/http/conf.d folder that contains the following lines: LoadModule evasive20_module modules/mod_evasive20.so <IfModule mod_evasive20.c> DOSHashTableSize 3097 DOSPageCount 2 DOSSiteCount 50 DOSPageInterval 1 DOSSiteInterval 1 DOSBlockingPeriod 10 </IfModule> My understanding from the setting is that if I were to click refresh or send a form more than two times in a one second interval, apache will issue a 403 error and bar me from the site for 10 seconds. • How to locate phpmyadmin on ubuntu

  Okay, I'm usually a windows user and I write quite happily there, unfortunately (or fortunately) I have installed linux on a dual boot and having installed some software I have a question... Where is it? I installed Apache, PHP, MySQL and separately phpmyadmin, Apache is up and running, I've seen my phpinfo page and MySQL is there. MySQL is telling me that there's a database for phpmyadmin, but...erm.. I can't seem to locate it. On a windows machine the directory would be in the www directory and I'd just navigate there... localhost/phpmyadmin/ but on Ubuntu I can't find it in the equivalent. I've been to /var/www/ and there's my index.html (from apache) and my phptest.php file but no phpmyadmin. There is a phpmyadmin in /lib but that only has 2 files in it. So having rambled lots, my question is, what do I have to do to be able to navigate to the phpmyadmin index page? I realise this could fall under the description of a server related question and should be posted elsewhere but as it's software on a home system some help would be appreciated. Do I need to move some files from somewhere? Help! I really don't want to have to go back to developing on Windows as I'll be deploying to a lamp system, my learning curve will be steep.

• Can't get php+sqlite working

  Hi, everyone I'm struggling all morning to make php work with an sqlite database. Sql is being executed and I can see a new row appear in the database. When I execute the same script from a browser - sql is not being executed. I don't get a new row in the database. There are no errors in the apache log file. Please, help

  I am using apache with mod_wsgi (python3) on ubuntu 12.04. I have a python app (bottle) which is at www.mysite.com/ In my python app I have routes like www.mysite.com/abbb?q=blab I would like a path www.mysite.com/forum to resolve to a php app (simple machine forums) Ideally I would like to use apache to handle the forum part and pass it to php (instead of coding it in the python app). Don't know if it's possible. I'm new to this, I have read https://code.google.com/p/modwsgi/wiki/ConfigurationGuidelines#The_Apache_Alias_Directive but I don't understand how to use it. • when to upgrade server to include more cores, versus more processors, versus additional server?

  The server hosting market is separated into single, double, qual, etc., processors, where each processor has several cores, or CPUs. My company will offer a Linux-based web application that relies on an Apache web server and a middle tier for business logic. The middle tier is used to crunch math, and return result to a client. Many clients may access the application simultaneously. The company will start with one processor having 4 cores. I'm trying to understand how the app uses the cores and then how to scale the application as business grows, in terms of servers/processors/cores. For example, I'd assume initially one core would be used for Apache, and the other 3 used to process client's requests for math crunching... Question 1: does that mean, with the 3 cores available, I can handle 3 separate client requests simultaneously (e.g. 1 for each of 3 cores)? I mean, except for the shared RAM, is this effectively like having 3 individual machines (from pt of view or processing client requests simulaneously)? Or, only one client's request may be processed at any one time, but that client's request is divided up into up to 3 cores depending on the type of process running that does the math crunching and whether or not it can take advantage of multi threading (so the # of cores impacts how fast any one client request completes)? I'm confused about what the cores mean to the application here. Question 2: As the business grows and more client requests need to be processed, should the server be upgraded to (A) a new machine with more cores, (B) a new machine with two processors, 4 cores each, or (C) keep the original server and add another server with a single processor? Which route provides the most efficient way to scale the application, in terms of processing more client requests per time interval? Is the choice, for example, limited by RAM (when you need more RAM than box can handle it's time to add another server), or something else? Question 3: Is the total number of client requests processed simultaneously equal to the number of cores times the number of servers (minus the one core for Apache)?

• Using nginx to rewrite urls inside outgoing responses

  We have a customer with a site running on Apache. Recently the site has been seeing increased load and as a stop gap we want to shift all the static content on the site to a cookieless domains, e.g. http://static.thedomain.com. The application is not well understood. So to give the developers time to amend the code to point their links to the static content server (http://static.thedomain.com) I thought about proxying the site through nginx and rewriting the outgoing responses such that links to /images/... are rewritten as http://static.thedomain.com/images/.... So for example, in the response from Apache to nginx there is a blob of Headers + HTML. In the HTML returned from Apache we have <img> tags that look like: <img src="/images/someimage.png" /> I want to transform this to: <img src="http://static.thedomain.com/images/someimage.png" /> So that the browser upon receiving the HTML page then requests the images directly from the static content server. Is this possible with nginx (or HAProxy)? I have had a cursory glance through the docs but nothing jumped out at me except rewriting inbound urls.

• What can be a reason for phpMyAdmin login to be not working (not at all, no reaction on submit)?

  When I open "http://localhost/phpmyadmin/", enter "root" as the user name and my MySQL root password and press go, then if I was using Firefox, I was getting offered to download index.php file (of a zero length), if I was using Opera 11, it said "Connection closed by remote server". Following recommendations I've removed all packages related to phpMyAdmin, PHP, MySQL and Apache and then reinstalled them step-by step (instead of just issuing apt-get install phpmyadmin and relying on the system to install the whole LAMP stack via dependencies as I've done before). The only change I've got was Firefox to stop offering to download index.php - now when I press Ok to submit my password, it just doesn't show any visible reaction at all. What may the reason be and how to fix it? I use up-to-date Xubuntu 11.04. Reinstalling the whole LAMP stack and phpMyAdmin did not help, neither did removing AppArmor. I've tried to use SQLBuddy instead, but there's exactly the same problem. So, I think, the problem is not in phpMyAdmin but in MySQL, Apache or something. MySQL seems to work if I use command line to access it. Apache & PHP seems to work also, as the login page of phpMyAdmin displays correctly.

  I need both PHP 5.4.7 and 5.3.17 running on Windows 7 x64 with Apache 2.2.23. Tomcat has access to a share '\server\share' that has a documents folder that I want to access using '/foo/Documents' in my web application. My application is able to access the documents when I set the file path to '//server/share/documents/doc1.doc'. I don't want the file server's path to be exposed on my link to the file in my application. I want to be able to set the path to '/foo/Documents/doc1.doc'. • Reading log files from web application

  Hi! I want to write a small PHP application for monitoring logs on a Debian server, including syslog logs and Apache/PHP messages. The problem here is that Apache user (www-data) has no access to /var/log directory. What would be the best way to grant an access to logs for PHP application? Let's assume that log files can be really large, like hundreds of megabytes. I have some ideas: Write a shell script that would be run via sudo and tail last 512 Kb of log into a separate file that can be read by application - that's ineffective, because of forking a new process and having to read data twice Add www-data to adm group (that can read logs) - that's insecure Start a PHP process via cron every minute to read logs — that's not very good, because it doesn't allow real-time monitoring. Also, this script will be started even when I don't read logs, and consume CPU time (server is in the cloud, and I'll have to pay for it) Create a hardlink for all log files with lowered permissions - I guess, that won't work because logrotate could recreate log files and they'll change inode number. Start a separate nginx/Apache server under privileged user that may read logs. Maybe anyone got a better solution?

• different user group can not upload file in the server

  I have a CentOS server running in Thailand, and I'm in Canada. The guy at the computer center who set up the server for me doesn't really understand much about linux and left me off an issue to solve myself. I just moved from Mac Server to Linux server, and the first thing I'm facing a problem now is `file name` has failed to upload due to an error The uploaded file could not be moved to `location name` So what happen is that I knew from my experiences of these problem is all about permissions. So I go ahead and checked on my whole folder and found that everything in the folder permission is like myusername mygroupname then I checked the httpd file in the server and it is default to apache apache. My question is that how can I make my user to be in the same group with apache group so that I don't have to have any problem about uploading, changing data in my file....? But without having to affect other user in the same server. I'm holding Administrator account, but not root account, but I can change stuff on the server root no problem. When I was with godaddy.com there never been any problem about the permission and I wish I know how they configure that :(

• Amazon EC2 - Free memory

  We have an amazon ec2 small instance running and over the past few days we noticed that the memory is going down and down. On the small instance, we are running apache and tomcat6 Tomcat is started with the following JVM parameters -Xms32m -Xmx128m -XX:PermSize=128m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m We use nagios to monitor stuff like updates to apply, free disk space and memory. Everything else is behaving as expected but our memory is going down all the time. Our app receives approx half a million hits a day When I shutdown apache and tomcat, and ran free -m, we had only 594mb of memory free out out of the 1.7gb of memory. Not much else is running on the small instance and when running the top command I cannot see where the memory is going. The app we run on tomcat is a grails webapp. Could there be a possibility that there is a memory leak within our application? I read online and folks say that a small amazon instance is perfect for running apach and tomcat. I found a few posts online that showed how to setup apache and tomcat to limit the memory usage and I have already performed those steps. The memory is not being used up as quick but the memory is still decreasing over time. We have other amazone ec2 small instances running grails apps and the memory is fairly standard on those nodes. But they would not be receiving as much traffic Just to add, when I run the top command on the problem server, I cannot see where all the memory is being used Any help with this is greatly appreciated The output of free -m when run on my server is as follows total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 1657 1380 277 0 158 773 -/+ buffers/cache: 447 1209 Swap: 895 0 895 In your opinion, does this look ok? At what stage would the OS give back memory, would it wait to the memory reaches 0% or is this OS dependent?

• please take a look at my server's ram usage

  Hi, i am a noob with servers. I have a centos5.5 vps with 512mb ram. My goal is to have it host just one magento store. I've installed Magento on the server without any control panel, by just installing lamp myself and whatever php extensions were necessary to get Magento to install. As soon as i visit my magento store, suddenly the ram on the vps is almost completely used, with only about 100mb left. Please see this screenshot of htop taken after just myself visited the website. http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/1944/screenouv.png As you can see there's only around 100mb left. Is that normal? I'm wondering if i might have done something stupid with the server that makes it very resource hungry. I installed apache from the centos base repo, php version 5.3 from the ius repository and mysql 5.1 also from ius repo. I haven't changed any of the default config files for any of these except to make memory_minimum 256 in php.ini. Is there anything i can do to make more ram free? I'm clueless but i see each Apache daemon is using 8% of available ram, and AFAIK each visitor needs one Apache daemon. So i would run out of ram with just a handful of visitors. Since this should be an open source (GPL) application I thought I would be free to do this. But now I found a page at Qt's website that made me doubtful about it: What are the restrictions with releasing scriptable applications? Unless the scripter has a Qt license, the following restrictions apply: The application itself may not primarily be a script development tool. The Qt API may not be made directly scriptable. Scripts may not alter the main functionality of the application. If the major part of the application is developed with a compiled programming language and only some non-core parts of the application are made extendable/modifiable through Qt Script, the scripter does not need to purchase a Qt or QSA license.   I have been looking at frameworks for writing 2D games in Java - part of a growing desire to rediscover my roots in writing those simple but addictive video games. I have googled and found some possibilities, but it's hard to judge which is best without investing significant time in each. Does anyone out there have any recommendations from experience, preferably with a list of pro's and con's for the framework. NOTE: I am not looking so much for comparisons between frameworks but, rather, feedback on any given framework from actually having used it firsthand, or knowing someone who has. The other possibility I am considering is rolling my own, but would rather not. EDIT: I am targeting Java on the Desktop, and expect capable machines, though not state of the art. • Cross-platform embedded database/key-value store for C#

  I'm looking for a fast, embeddable key/value store with cursor semantics over key collections (or a simple embeddable DB) that I can use in .NET and mono. Need it to be open-source, would prefer an MIT or Apache style license over a GPL license. Not opposed to a library that needs bindings to be written, as long as binaries are available for both windows and linux. Options considered: SQLite - has bindings and native implementation, but single-threaded and not all that fast Embedded InnoDB - no .NET bindings i can find and it's GPLv2 Berkley DB - no .NET bindings i can find Tokyo Cabinet - no .NET bindings i can find and problematic to build on windows MadCow Memory-mapped data structures - GPLv2 Is there an option better than the above that i'm missing, or bindings for the above i don't know about?

• ExtAsp or Coolite - ASP.NET wrappers around ExtJs

  Hi, We are a small Microsoft shop looking into ExtJs and like the rapid building of complex and structured UIs that can be achieved with the toolkit. However we have been experimenting with ExtAsp.NET (CodePlex) which is an opensource layer of ASP.NET code which wraps around the ExtJs framework. We have also noticed the Coolite framework which looks good too and does the same thing. We have 2 options, either we purchase the ExtJs license which will be required if we use ExtAsp, or we purchase the Coolite kit which includes the ExtJs license. It looks like Coolite is actually it little cheaper than the ExtJs for some reason?? However, is it a little more risky as regards upgrade path if the Coolite framework becomes unsupported, whereas ExtAsp as an open source solution will have community backing? Just looking to make the right step.

• XStream JavaBeanConverter not serializing properties

  Hello All, Attempting to use XStream's JavaBeanConverter and running into an issue. After looking at the source for JavaBeanConverter, it looks like my implementation should work, which leads me to believe I haven't configured something correctly during the XStream setup. Am I just missing something simple? Thanks! • LicenseException for Xceed DataGrid for WPF

  I have developed a simple DB-editing app using Xceed's excellent DataGrid for WPF (UX Edition version 3.7), which is now ready for deployment... except that when I run it on a machine other than the development one where it was built, I am getting the runtime exception for invalid licensing. I have included my license key in the App.xaml.cs exactly as specified in the Xceed docs, like so: public partial class App : System.Windows.Application { protected override void OnStartup(StartupEventArgs e) { Xceed.Wpf.DataGrid.Licenser.LicenseKey = "DGF37-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxx"; base.OnStartup(e); } } The correct version of the DataGrid DLLs are being included in the setup and the application's program directory, and there are no other versions on the target machine. Debugging doesn't show me anything useful other than the LicenseException that is thrown when the code tries to use the DataGrid, with the message that reads "Xceed.Wpf.DataGrid.Licenser.LicenseKey property must be set to a valid license key in the code of your application before using this product..." Any idea what's going wrong here?
