  Let's say you have a resource that you can do normal PUT/POST/GET operations on. It represents a BLOB of data and the methods retrieve representations of the data, be they metadata about the BLOB or the BLOB itself. The resource is something that can be processed by the server on request. In this instance a file that can be parsed multiple times. How do I initiate that processing? It's a bit RPC like.   I created a custom Ubuntu 11.10 amd64 desktop based distro using remastersys, but whenever I try to boot using the iso file in vmware, it shows this error : no ui or default configuration found I've tried changing the name of isolinux to syslinux but that didnt help me either! I also tried using unetbootin but it also doesnt boot, and tried every possible but to no avail. There is a similar question but it is about 10.10 and 32 bit, but that didnt solve my query and also as this is a custom distro, the solution could be different. I've also tried creating images using remastersys again and again but that wont help either. Please help me its very urgent!

• android game: how to approach mutliplayer

  I'm making a single player game that is near completion, and I am already starting to think about giving the game multiplayer. The multiplayer would basically be finding someone to play against, likely in a waiting room or just have a match-making function, and then having a pokemon style battle between the people in real time. I think it would be relatively simple as I'm just sending information about each attack(move chosen and damage) and what it did back and forth, but I'm not sure what resources to consult for this. I am very new to Android/Java development and really just learning as I go. I have heard a bit about Skiller, but I'm still unfamiliar with using other SDK's and how easy it may be. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what SDK's or methods for accomplishing this. I currently have no money to spend on software development, but I'd like to get started on learning how to do this.

• Getting wireless N to work on Dell Vostro 3300?

  I have a Dell Vostro 3300, which has a Broadcom BCM4313 wireless. The point is that I cannot make it work in N mode. NetwotkManager applet says I'm on 54 Mbit/s. Of course, my wireless router is N capable. I've double checked. Anyone knows what to do? • How can I get stats for what 3rd-party sites have embedded our iframe widget?

  Say we've produced a widget for other sites to use, like so: <iframe src="http://example.com/whatever.php" frameBorder="0" width="200px" height="300px" scrolling="no"></iframe> The client would like to be able to see within GA who has embedded the thing. Is there some referer information automatically passed that I can look for, or do I need to add something? whatever.php is already loading the analytics Javascript(we're also tracking clicks on an outbound link). [EDIT] Looking around a bit more, I found what seems to be a similar question on SO with an answer saying this can be found, automatically, but I still can't seem to find the information. The question's also old enough the respondent is probably referring to the old interface, though. Maybe someone could explain getting to it in the new look. (I won't likely be able to train this client to switch, deal with the old look, etc.)

• How to properly code in Unity? [on hold]

  I'm fairly new to Unity (yet I touched it and made a few proto with it) and I'd like to know how I'm supposed to work with it. I'm student in programming so I'm used to C/C++ with SDL/SFML, writing code and only using Input/Graphics/Network libs. I followed a few Unity guides and it was way more around drag & drop on scenes and a bit of scripting to activate it all, which disturbed me. So I fond a way to only use one GameObject and use a Singleton to launch code and display stuff (for 2d games at least). At the end of the day I make games not using "Instantiate" or such at all. Is it the right way ? Am I supposed to do this ? How much are your scenes populated (in a professional environment) ? When should I stop coding and start using the editor ?

• Ubuntu doesn't boot after upgrade

  I updated to 12.10 and the OS will not load. I used the boot repair cd, and the only thing that works is the monodeset option in the kernel and the graphics are terrible, mouse disappears and unity will not load. Ubuntu 12.04 ran great. On a clean install of 12.10 Ubuntu wont even load to install unless under using monodeset. I get left a terminal like screen with just a blinking bar. I'm using a HP Compaq NC6400 Laptop, Ubuntu 32-bit, 2gb ram.

• Ubuntu 12.4 not listed while in boot menu

  I am using Dell Inspiron 17R with Windows7 as the primary OS to boot my system up. I am new to Linux and to begin with, I thought of installing Ubuntu 12.4 AMD 64 bit version on my laptop. Today I performed a successful installation on my laptop but when I reboot, it doesn't show me the Ubuntu OS in the list (I can only see Windows7). Is there any way to bring up the Ubuntu entry into this list? While installing I selected the option to have both Windows7 and Ubuntu OS on my laptop. The root drive for both OS is C: drive. Hence I split the drive into two (250 GB for Windows7 and 250 GB for Ubuntu). Now I can only see 250GB in my C:\ drive for Windows7. Is the remaining 250GB assigned to Ubuntu or did I lose that 250GB space?? Your answers will be highly appreciated..

• System76 Galago UltraPro keyboard?

  I'm not sure whether this is the correct place to ask this question, but here it is. I am currently using the previous version of the "Gazelle Professional" laptop from System76. The keyboard does get a bit getting used to, but now I really like it, and in fact find all other keyboards puny. I find many reviews of the new Galago UltraPro criticize its keyboard, saying it is very hard to press, but from the photos, it seems to use the same kind of keys, at least with the same markings, as the GazP. Will the keyboard be any "worse" than that of the GazP? Some reviews criticize the GazP keyboard too, and certain brands (Apple) do have shockingly soft chiclet keyboards, so I'm not so sure. I certainly don't want to shell out a lot of cash and end up with a keyboard I can't type properly on.

• What exactly is a chroot? Is it similar to a simultaneous dual boot?

  It has been suggested to me that the use of a chroot might solve my problem of building an application that must run on an embedded device. I have inferred from this description that it is somehow similar to creating the embedded environment locally on my machine which I can then use to develop on from my desktop development machine. Is this the right way to look at the functionality or have I totally misunderstood? In order to get some idea of how it works I read this https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebootstrapChroot which I will attempt to make a chroot for an old Ubuntu version on my machine. However, as I am a total linux novice, I am a bit concerned that as I do not entirely know what I am doing is there anyway that I could end up with an unusable system?? • jQuery scrolling images for e-commerce site, what to do about users who disable JS

  As the title suggests, I am developing an e-commerce site and I intend of having two jQuery plug ins on the default page, one for scrolling images and the other for the navigation menu. Should I be concerned about making the site work if the users disables JS? Cause if they have it disabled my site would be almost impossible to use with the scrolling images blocking the main content. Plus the CMS I am using, Big Commerce, uses a bit of JS for the products pages, which would also look ridiculous with JS disabled. Anyone have experience with this?

• W520 External monitor setup with Ubuntu 12.10

  I just installed a fresh Ubuntu 12.10 64-Bit Desktop on my Lenovo W520. It looks like there are a lot of challenges around making it work with out of the box Nouveau drivers or propriety Nvidia drivers or Intel GPU. I looked at couple of notes on how to make it work with Bumblebee with Optimus Nvidia. None of them seems to work for 12.10. Anybody has a solid answer on this? It seems like a lot of people are suffering from this. Here is my xrandr output. Let me know if you need any additional information. • Excel duration converts to date

  I'm working on an Excel 2010 spreadsheet and I'm trying to put in durations for some tasks I want to schedule.The interesting thing is that up until a few minutes ago, I couldn't do it.I was entering in "47:00" and excel was (and still is) converting it to "1/1/1900 23:00:00"In my mind, I want the value to be 47 minutes, but for the life of me I cannot find a fix for this behavior.Here's the weirdest thing, I haven't had this problem in the past.  Usually I put in times, add them up and they work like magic.  Put in 18 entries of 20 minutes each, total them and excel will usually tell me that it's a total of 6 hours.No problem.Today, problem.Here's the weird bit:As I was writing this post, I got it to work.By formatting the column as custom "[hh]:mm" and summing the columns, I can get total times.But the times are still being formatted into dates if I look at the underlying data.  Bottom line, if you need to calculate durations, you can, but don't look too closely at what is happening underneath the covers.

• DRIconf in Ubuntu 64x plus ATI GPU or something more?

  I've been trying to get Call of Duty 2 to work in Wine in Ubuntu. It gives me a black screen. So I tried the fix suggested by the wine apphq and downloaded DRIconf. Funny thing is that it can't find my direct rendering device. "Could not detect any configurable direct-rendering capable devices. DRIconf will be started in expert mode" When I enter into it in Expert Mode is just errors out anyway. fglrxinfo gives me: display: :0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. OpenGL renderer string: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series OpenGL version string: 3.3.11627 Compatibility Profile Context That shows me my driver is installed correctl,y right? World of Goo which is Linux native and requires direct rendering works like a charm. So I'm wondering, is there some other workaround? Is there a bigger issue? Does me running 64-bit affect it at all?

• Repartitioning in 14.94 To Add Home Partion

  I have 32 bit 14.04 installed as the only OS on a older Toshiba Laptop. Unfortunately, when I installed it I did not set up a \home partition, which I had intended to do. What I want to do is to set up a \home partition and to transfer the files in my current \home directory to it. I have a 14.04 Live CD, so I could reinstall 14.04. I also have GParted on a Live CD. If I use GParted, I need precise instructions about how to proceed. I have plenty of disk space (200 GB) for either alternative and know how to decide space allocation for Linux partitions. • Starcraft 2 not displaying map in game

  I installed Starcraft II wings of liberty via playonlinux, it installed fine, it starts up fine, but when I go into a game the map does not show, it is just black, but all my buildings/units/mineral line shows up, but everything else is black, also all the abilities do not have any graphics, and I can not see my player portrait in the menus. I am on a 32 bit version of ubuntu 12.04 with wine 1.5.10 I think it is probably a missing package I need to install...but I have no clue which one it would be, or if it is even that. • Writing files to an Airport Extreme using afp

  Using Nautilus I can connect from Ubuntu 12.04 (64-bit) to my Apple Airport Extreme using user & password without a problem. I can read, browse folders and delete files. However I cannot write files, the file is created, but the contents of the file are not transferred. The transfer fails with the error message "kFPMiscErr" which I think means that "authentication has already been established" ?. I have tried the command line tools for access using AFP but these do not work either. Is there a solution to this problem ?

• Super slow and laggy?

  I'm a native Windows user, running 7 Home Premium atm. In the past I installed Ubuntu 10 on my netbook I believe, but was a bit 'scared' by it. Anyways, I made a partition on my desktop pc, 100gb and installed Ubuntu 12.10 on it. It was pretty slow first thought it had to install updates or something, so I rebooted it. Now after the login it looks like everything freezes, I can move my mouse only ,but that's it! I can see my desktop and launcher, but the task bar doesn't display time and misc system info, only a black bar, I downloaded the android SDK pack and installed vlc media player before I rebooted. My computer info: - 1tb HDD - 8gb ddr3 ram - ATI Radeon 4890 videocard (1gb) - AMD Phenom 2 x4 black 3,2ghz CPU(64 bits) Thanks in advantage!

  When I hit the power button of my computer, a window titled 'Shut Down the Computer' appears. It gives a few options, including shutting down or restarting. This window is different following the context I hit the power button : when logged in and seeing my desktop, it includes colourful icons (red for shutting down, for example). when I am not logged in yet, the icons are monochrome and a little bit more stylized. I clearly prefer the last type of icons : how do I set them as default whatever the context of use of the 'Shut Down the Computer' window ?

• Programming languages with extensible syntax

  I have only a limited knowledge of Lisp (trying to learn a bit in my free time) but as far as I understand Lisp macros allow to introduce new language constructs and syntax by describing them in Lisp itself. This means that a new construct can be added as a library, without changing the Lisp compiler / interpreter. This approach is very different from that of other programming languages. E.g., if I wanted to extend Pascal with a new kind of loop or some particular idiom I would have to extend the syntax and semantics of the language and then implement that new feature in the compiler. Are there other programming languages outside the Lisp family (i.e. apart from Common Lisp, Scheme, Clojure (?), Racket (?), etc) that offer a similar possibility to extend the language within the language itself?

• Where does a scrum master draw the line with blocking issues?

  I understand the concept that a Scrum Master should remove impediments. However I'd like to know where exactly the line should be drawn. For example a team member might have an impediment whereby they need to get support to log onto a live server and get some details. They can't progress a bit of work until this is done. Its a blocking issue essentially. But should it be the Scrum master that goes to the Ops department and does this for the developer or if the developer can do it themselves should they just do it themselves. At what point does an issue become a blocking issue?
