  • iPhone OS: implementing your own achievements, how do I do it?

    I'm working on a game where really the only game part is (at least right now) that the user can unlock achievements as she does various things throughout the game. I have a database that can keep track of certain user actions and record how many times a user does something but I'm having trouble figuring out the best way to architect the app so that I have to do the least amount of work. Kind of suck with the timing because gamecenter is not ready and it seems like openfeint is changing gears, but maybe I'm wrong. I'd prefer to do everything "in house" if it is not too ridiculous. looking for suggestions. Thanks, Nick

  • ASP.NET GridView and UpdatePanel

    I have a GridView, inside a UserControl, inside an UpdatePanel on a page. There's a button in the GridView which needs to fire a postback. What happens is: User clicks button - RowCommand Fires - Custom event is raised on UserControl - Page detects this and changes the active view index for a multiview and also the page title and some other controls outside the UpdatePanel. The problem is, the page posts back asyncchronously, the page title changes, but the actions requireing a full postback don't happen because a full postback doesn't occur. To register the button as a postback trigger I'm using: ImageButton btnResults = e.Row.FindControl("btnResults") as ImageButton; ScriptManager scrCurrent = ScriptManager.GetCurrent(this.Page); if (btnResults != null && scrCurrent != null) { scrCurrent.RegisterPostBackControl(btnResults); } I know this is a bit of a complicated problem, but I'd really appreciate any help.

  • Linq to SQL Repository ~theory~ - Generic but now uses Linq to Objects?

    The project I am currently working on used Linq to SQL as an ORM data access technology. Its an MVC3 Web app. The problem I faced was primarily due to the inability to mock (for testing) the DataContext which gets autogenerated by the DBML designer. So to solve this issue (after much reading) I refactored the repository system which was in place - single repository with seperate and duplicated access methods for each table which ended up with something like 300 methods only 10 of which were unique - into a single repository with generic methods taking the table and returning more generic types to the upper reaches of the application. My question revolves more around the design I've used to get thus far and the differences I'm noticing in the structure of the app. 1) Having refactored the code from the dark ages which used classic Linq to SQL queries: public Billing GetBilling(int id) { var result = ( from bil in _bicDc.Billings where bil.BillingId == id select bil).SingleOrDefault(); return (result); } it now looks like: public T GetRecordWhere<T>(Expression<Func<T, bool>> predicate) where T : class { T result; try { result = _dataContext.GetTable<T>().Where(predicate).SingleOrDefault(); } catch (Exception ex) { throw ex; } return result; } and is used by the controller with a query along the lines of: _repository.GetRecordWhere<Billing>(x => x.BillingId == 1); which is fine, and precisely what I wanted to achieve. ...however.... I'm also having to do the following to get precisely the result set i require in the controller class (the highest point of the app in essence)... viewModel.RecentRequests = _model.GetAllRecordsWhere<Billing>(x => x.BillingId == 1) .Where(x => x.BillingId == Convert.ToInt32(BillingType.Submitted)) .OrderByDescending(x => x.DateCreated). Take(5).ToList(); This - as far as my understanding is correct - is now using Linq to Objects rather than the Linq to SQL queries I was previously? Is this okay practise? It feels wrong to me but I dont know why. Probably because the logic of the queries is in the very highest tier of the app, rather than the lowest, but... I defer to you good people for advice. One of the issues I considered was bringing the entire table into memory but I understand that using the Iqeryable return type the where clause is taken to the database and evaluated there. Thus returning only the resultset i require... i may be wrong. And if you've made it this far, well done. Thank you, and if you have any advice it is very much appreciated!!

    Using the new Visual Studio 2010 SDK developing against the MEF based editor structure there's a question: How can I use the MEF editor interfaces to handle snippet behavior in IntelliSense? The ICompletionSession itself is not a problem (e.g. get the available snippets) rather filling the snippet, handling the subsequently expected actions like tab, enter behavior, text replacement, etc. Is there any way to do that without a language service? Checking the built-in behavior in Visual Studio base editor implementation they built the MEF interfaces on top of a set of language service based objects.

  • Have problems designing input and output for a calculator app

    Hello! I am writing a button calculator. I have the code split into model, view and a controller. The model knows nothing about formatting, it is only concerned with numbers. All formatting is done in the view. The model gets its input as keypresses, each keypress is a part of an enum: typedef enum { kButtonUnknown = 0, kButtonMemoryClear = 100, kButtonMemoryPlus = 112, kButtonMemoryMinus = 109, kButtonMemoryRecall = 114, kButtonClear = 99, … }; When the user presses a button (say 1), the model receives a button code (kButtonNum1), adds the corresponding number to a string input buffer ("1") and updates the numeric output value (1.0). The controller then passes the numeric output value to the view that formats it (1). This is all plain, simple and clean, but does not really work. The problem is that when user enters a part of a number (say 0.00, going to enter 0.001), the input does not survive the way through model to view and the display says 0 instead of 0.00. I know why this happens ("0.00"::string parses to 0::double and that gets formatted as 0). What I don’t know is how to design the calculator so that the code stays clean and simple and the numbers will show up on screen exactly as the user types them. I’ve already come with some kind of solution, but that’s essentially a hack and breaks the beautiful and simple flow from the calculator model to the display. Ideas? Current solution keeps track of the calculator state. If the calculator is building a number, I take the calculator input buffer (a string) and directly set the display contents (also a string). Otherwise I take the proper path, ie. take the numeric calculator output, pass it to the view as a double and the view uses its internal formatter to create a string for the display. Example input: input | display | mode ------+---------+------------ 0 | 0 | from string 0. | 0. | from string 0.0 | 0.0 | from string 0.0+ | 0 | from number This is ugly. (1) The calculator has to expose its input buffer and state. (2) The view has to expose its display and allow setting its contents directly using a string. (3) I have to duplicate some of the formatting code to format the string I got from the calculator input buffer. If user enters 12345.000, I have to display 12,345.000 and therefore I’ve got to have a commification code for strings. Yuck.

    I have the following class structure (abbreviated for sake of time, names changed) in my application. When I was writing the code I felt that the similarities between Action1 and Action2 should warrant some sort of generalization. I've provided the UML Class diagram with the relevant parts (except for the interfaces, which I describe in code below). I was wondering if anyone had an idea on how to make this "better" architecture / class design. Also, actions that are very similar could be implemented in a near-future iteration.     i have a controlled called AppController. i have 2 actions: Details and Delete both pass in int id as the parameter to the action WHen i go to: mysite/App/Details/100 I can catch it in the controller details action but when i go to mysite/App/Delete/100 The breakpoint never hits and i get this in the browser: Server Error in '/' Application. The resource cannot be found. Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.     In my JavaScript, I'm using an object as an associative array. It always has the property "main", and may have others. So, when I create it I might do this: var myobject = new Object (); myobject["main"] = somevalue; Other properties may be added later. Now, at some moment I need to know whether myobject has just the one property, or several, and take different actions depending (I'm only referring to properties I've created). So far all I've found to do is something like: flag = false; for (i in myobject) { if (i=="main") continue; flag = true; break; } and then branch on flag. Or: for (i in myobject) { if (i=="main") continue; do_some_actions (); break; } These approaches work but feel to me like I've overlooked something. Is there a better approach?

Although i have left some blank fields in View. Also EnableClientValidation() is also applied in View for client side validation but its not working. what may be the problem

  • multiple partial views mvc 2

    Hello World! Hi guys, I have a master page with two partial viewson it both of which submit to the AccountController. When I click Submit on either of the partial views the following happens: If I declare the partial views like Html.BeginForm("PartialAction1","Account") it redirects to that partial view on clicking submit instead bringing back the default HomeContoller Index view with validation errors. If I declare the partial view forms as Html.BeginForm() then it returns to the default index view of the home controller. But it actually fires both partial view actions inside the AccountController and thus returns validation errors for both partial views simultaneously. What I want is version 2 above with only one action firing instead of two. Am I missing, hopefully, something very simple? I hoping someone can help me or point me in the right direction.     In Asp.Net MVC 2.0, at least in the beta, you could decoration your model classes with data annotation attributes and enable client side validation that leverages that criteria defined in your model data annotation attibutes. Is there anything similar for Java Spring MVC 3.0? Is it possible to inject a component into the response pipeline that can inspect the model's annotated properties and render client side validation logic to complement the server side validation logic that is invoked prior to the controller handling the request?

    Hello all. I have a serious problem in my flex client applications. I have an apache server with php web services. the flex client makes an httpservice requests. I noticed that the httpservice requests that runs from the creationComplete event of the application does not always get data from the server. but HTTPservice requests called from user actions always work.   • How do laziness and I/O work together in Haskell?

    I'm trying to get a deeper understanding of laziness in Haskell. I was imagining the following snippet today: data Image = Image { name :: String, pixels :: String } image :: String -> IO Image image path = Image path <$> readFile path The appeal here is that I could simply create an Image instance and pass it around; if I need the image data it would be read lazily - if not, the time and memory cost of reading the file would be avoided: main = do image <- image "file" putStrLn $ length $ pixels image But is that how it actually works? How is laziness compatible with IO? Will readFile be called regardless of whether I access pixels image or will the runtime leave that thunk unevaluated if I never refer to it? If the image is indeed read lazily, then isn't it possible I/O actions could occur out of order? For example, what if immediately after calling image I delete the file? Now the putStrLn call will find nothing when it tries to read.

In another example, I've seen another form: http = new Http http(/* argument here */) Is this valid Scala? I guess it must be, because the author is a Scala expert. But it makes no sense to me. Actions are usually performed by invoking methods on objects, whether explicitly as object.doSomething() or implicitly as object = something (using the apply() method underneath the syntactic sugar). All I can think of is that a constructor is being used to do something in addition to constructing an object. In other words, it is having side effects, such as in this case going off and doing something on the web.

    This is a toy project I'm working on at the moment. My app contains questions with multiple choice answers. The question url is in the following format, with GET & POST mapping to different actions on the questions controller. GET: url.com/questions/:category/:difficulty => 'ask' POST: url.com/questions/:category/:difficulty => 'answer' I'm wondering if it's worth redesigning this into a RESTful style. I know I'd need to introduce answers as a resource, but I'm struggling to think of a url that would look natural for answering that question. Would a redesign be worthwhile? How would you go about structuring the urls?

  • Can I use Sikuli as an Jython library in my project?

    Sikuli is really cool, but it's working in its buildin Jython environment, the Sikuli IDE. So I m wondering is it possible to import Sikuli as an external library to my Jython library? I saw from Sikuli's website that they have this Python module which provides all Sikuli actions like click and type. Here is the link: http://sikuli.org/documentation.shtml#doc/pythondoc-python.edu.mit.csail.uid.Sikuli.html I have tried importing the skiuli-script.jar and add the skiuli-script/Lib to the PYTHONPATH. Then in my spike.py script, I try to do this: import python.edu.mit.csail.uid.Sikuli capture() #enter to screen capture mode then when execute the script, I got this error: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /eclipse_3.4.2/workspace/Jython/src/tmplib/libVDictProxy.jnilib: no suitable image found. Did find: /eclipse_3.4.2/workspace/Jython/src/tmplib/libVDictProxy.jnilib: no matching architecture in universal wrapper I m using Jython 2.2.1 and Mac 10.6.2 (32-bit mode). I have also set to use 32-bit mode first in Java Preference.
