• Get SMTP to work

  We upgraded to exchange 2010 and this broke an old java based script that connected and sent out e-mail messages. Many hours later we still can't get exchange to work like exchange 2003 did. That hope was abandoned and we decided to create a linux postfix server to forward the e-mail from the old system to exchange, eliminating exchange on the java side. This still doesn't work with similar errors. I need help figuring out what is different between exchange 2003 with SSL and authentication and the new servers, both linux and exchange 2010. My guess is both have TLS and for some reason the java code won't revert back to the older version of SSL, instead it just fails. Can someone help me either setup exchange 2010 to work like 2003 used to, OR to setup postfix to mandate it use SSL 2.0 instead of TLS? unfortunately no one knows anything about the Java code and they can't decompile it apparently. Any help is appreciated.

• How to route traffic via another machine before the default gateway

  At the moment I have a router on 192.168.0.1, a Linux box on 192.168.0.2 and desktop clients from 192.168.0.3. Everything works with 192.168.0.1 as the default gateway. I'd like to send the traffic from the desktop clients via the Linux box before it goes out through the router so I can sniff the traffic (some of these are wireless connections). Can I set the default gateway to 192.168.0.2 on the desktop clients and then perhaps add some iptables rules to forward this traffic through 192.168.0.1? Quite happy to change the client desktops to another subnet if that makes it easier. Thanks in advance.

What's the best practise for installing apps on Ubuntu? Should I prefer to try my options in this order? Synaptic Package Manger apt-get on the command line .tar.gz files (old school)

  I need to come with a strategy to use gather information about the health of my linux platform, hardware health such as high CPU temperature and may be disk space usage, etc...   Sometimes, my Linux PC unexpectedly closes my session (log out) while I am working, and puts me back the login window. If I have terminal 1 logged with root and 2 logged with another user (without X), these ones are not logged out. For example, for the last three hours, it has happened five times. Other times, it leads to a reboot. So I have investigated: the UPS, but the behaviour is unchanged without it). the temperatures, but everything is fine (cpu, disks, video card). I have started to investigate also: the memory (partially tested - I have to run a full testyt next night). EDIT: totally tested and passed. My configuration is: Linux 2.6.37-tuxonice x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz. Any idea please?

  This is the situation: Working on (the next version of) a Unity quicklist editor, I would like to add a reliable way of "restarting" launcher icons. To do so, I need to remove the icon (editing gsettings) and replace it on the same position. So far no problem. However, if the application in question is running, user will possibly lose data, as the application will quit when it's icon is removed from the launcher. What I need is a reliable way to find an application's process name, to let the editor check in the list of running processes if the application is running, and send a warning message to the user that the icon can not be restarted if the application is running. What i did so far is make the editor look into the desktop file, to read the command, also read the command, stripped from the directory section, and furthermore look into possible remote scripts the desktop file command might refer to, looking for strings starting with "./" Although te method seems to work well with all applications I tested it on, I have the feeling there must be an easier way to cover the problem in an "all in one" way... Is there? also suggestions to catch more exceptional situations are welcome!

  Hi I have a snap server 110 the machine powers on ok and the healthcheck passes but unable to connect no responce on the assigned ip or any ability to reach the device via the snap server manager. Believe the device is powering on but not loading the OS. Tried pulling the disk running and hooking up to a windows PC via USB, and using disk internals linux reader I am unable to access two of the partitions. ( one of which is the large data partition). There are three partitions on the the drice only one is accessible via Linux reader. I am looking to recover the data of the drive can anyone suggest a DIY option please?
