  • Browser App - RAD UI Development - Is it possible?

    I've been away from building browser applications for a long time. I'm now interested in creating one for a hobby of mine. I dread having to deal with HTML, JavaScript etc. to build a high quality browser based user interface. I've got the full suite of Telerik controls. Is it possible to build a polished, somewhat feature rich browser UI while being sheltered from the archaic environment of HTML and JavaScript? I'd love to be able to simply drag-drop components, much like building a Win UI and have the exact HTML, JavaScript code created for me. Thanks!

  • model binding of non-sequential arrays

    I am having a table in which i`m dynamically creating and deleting rows. How can I change the code such that the rows be added and deleted and the model info property filled accordingly. Bearing in mind that the rows can be dynamically created and deleted, I may have Info[0], Inf0[3], info[4]... My objective is to be able to bind the array even if it`s not in sequence. I'm getting a NullReferenceException when _writer = _viewContext.Writer; is called in protected virtual void Dispose(bool disposing) {/*...*/} I think I'm at a point where it almost works (I've gotten other implementations to work) and I was wondering if somebody could point out what I'm doing wrong? Also, I'd be interested in hearing suggestions on how I could improve the design?     Hello I'm trying to build a "wizard-like" app that has 3 pages. First one you fill in some requests, then you select time and date, and last step is to fill in your name and address etc. How should the validation be taken care of, since I also need to validate all "3 steps" when pressing submit on the last step. Do I need to have 4 viewmodels there? like step1model, step2model...... and then validateallmodel? And must I use some session-like in between since it "redirect's" to next step if successful? /M

  • nullable bool is being passed to the controller null all the time regardless of the value

    I'm trying to pass a nullable bool to my controller. But when I pass the bool value from my view to the controller, it's being passed null all the time regardless of the value it has in my view. Any help would be really appreciated. Update: Thank you for your fast responds. However, I did try giving it a value="True" as you guys suggested. There is only 2 options now: null and true. But my intention is to use nullable bool to have three options: null (when user doesn't touch the checkbox), true(checked) and false(unchecked). I know it sounds not smart and silly, but I'm just trying to figure out how nullable bool is working, and what is the intention of having such a thing in C# (I'm new with C#). I was wondering if it is possible to do so with just checkbox and without the use of dropdownlist or radio buttons.

    I have a series of links and when i click on a link i want to show a dialog with detail information. This detail is returned from an jquery ajax request. I am using the following code below to show a partial result through ajax onto a jquery dialog. When i click on another item (lets say i send id = 4567) it shows the content from 1234 still. Which i click this second item again (again its 4567), then it will show the content from 4567. Does anyone know why it might not be refreshed the first time? Is this a timing issue?

  • What's the difference between <% and <%:

    Hi, I couldn't find anything through Google, I suppose the search terms are too much to handle. The VS built-in help only explains <%, which is just embedded code. There is no mention of <%: EDIT: My book says, that the only difference is that <%: returns a MvcHtmlString. Why do we need an extra symbol for <%: just to return something? Thanks for any help! It would really help me to understand asp.net.

    Hello, I am learning DDD and I am a little bit lost in Infrastructure layer: As I understand, "all good DDD applications" should have 4 layers: Presentation, Application, Domain and Infrastructure. Database should be accessed using Repositories. Repository interfaces should be in Domain layer and repository implementation - in Infrastructure (reference http://stackoverflow.com/questions/693221/ddd-where-to-keep-domain-interfaces-the-infrastructure). Application, Domain and Infrastructure layer should/may have services (reference www.lostechies.com/blogs/jimmy_bogard/archive/2008/08/21/services-in-domain-driven-design.aspx), in example EmailService in Infrastructure layer which sends Email messages. BUT, inside Infrastructure layer we have repository implementations, which are used to access database. So, in this case, repositories are database services? What is the difference between Infrastructure service and repository? Thanks in advance!

    Hello, I have an user view model that has the following properties: public User user; public List<Language> Languages; I send the above model to the view and use html helpers to build the form, so I end up with something like: <form action="/Users/Edit/5" method="post"><input id="user_UserId" name="user.UserId" type="hidden" value="5" /> First Name Last Name Email Language - en en Now, I try to read the POST in something that initially was something like : [AcceptVerbs( HttpVerbs.Post )] public ActionResult Edit( int UserId, FormCollection form ) { and cannot get the user.UserId variable, user.FirstName variable etc. Any idea what needs to be done to be able to read this kind of POST request. I'm kind of reluctant to modifying my ViewModel as it is very simple and easy to maintain as it is. Thank you.

  • Passing models between controllers in MVC4

    I'm in the middle of my first foray into web development with MVC4, and I've run into a problem that I just know is one of the core issues in web development in general, but can't seem to wrap my mind around it. So I have two models: Employee and Company. Employee has a Company, therefore /Employee/Create contains a field that is either a dropdown list for selecting an existing Company, or an ActionLink to /Company/Create if none exists. But here's the issue: If a user has to create a Company, I need to preserve the existing Employee model across both Views--over to /Company/Create, then back to /Employee/Create. So my first approach was to pass the Employee model to /Company/Create with a @Html.ActionLink("Add...", "Create", "Organization", Model , null), but then when I get to Company's Create(Employee emp), all of emp's values are null. The second problem is that if I try to come back to /Employee/Create, I'd be passing back an Employee, which would resolve to the POST Action. Basically, the whole idea is to save the state of the /Employee/Create page, jump over to /Company/Create to create a Company record, then back to /Employee/Create to finish creating the Employee. I know there is a well understood solution to this because , but I can't seem to phase it well enough to get a good Google result out of it. I've though about using Session, but it seems like doing so would be a bit of a kludge. I'd really like an elegant solution to this.

    I am using the Html.TextBox helper to create textboxes. I want to set attributes on the textbox, which I understand is done using the following overload: Html.TextBox (string name, object value, object htmlAttributes) However, I want to maintain the functionality where the html helper automatically uses the value from either ViewData or ViewData.Model and I do not see a way to just specify the name and the htmlAttributes. Is this possible?

    I've been stuck at this for days now. I copied the exact codes from google api samples to upload files to Google Drive. Here is the code UserCredential credential = GoogleWebAuthorizationBroker.AuthorizeAsync( new ClientSecrets { ClientId = ClientId, ClientSecret = ClientSecret, }, new[] { DriveService.Scope.Drive, DriveService.Scope.DriveFile }, "user", CancellationToken.None, new FileDataStore("MyStore")).Result; But it would throw an exception at runtime: Method not found: 'Void Google.Apis.Util.Store.FileDataStore..ctor(System.String)'. I already added the necessary Google Api dlls. Or if anyone could suggest a better code for uploading files to Google Drive in a website which implements Server-Side Authorization. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is the problem with the dlls?

  • Routing fails when only category is supplied

    My website uses categories and sub-categories. I'd like the follow mapping: /Category/Fruit /Category/Fruit/Apples But if I use the below: routes.MapRoute( "Category", // Route name "Category/{category}/{subcategory}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Entity", action = "Category" } // Parameter defaults ); I get a 404 for /Category/Fruit however /Category/Fruit/Apples works ok. I'd like /Category/Fruit to work as well but I can't add another route with the same name. How do I get around this? Thanks in advance.
