• Is Programming Right for me?

  I'm interested in programming, but it seems to me that I can't get into it. Every time I've tried to learn a language and stuff by looking through tutorials or books I'd never get past the part where I use the syntax to make something. And by interest, I mean that I read stack overflow a lot, coding horror, and stuff but the actual coding part is hard for me to get into. Did anybody start this way? How did you get past this block?

  been working with symfony for a while. most tutorials describe having multiple actions in a single php file. however, i find having 1 action per php file easier to maintain. what's the pro/con of both? is this purely a developer preference in code organisation? any performance impact on either approach? what's common practice for reasonably large production applications?

• jQuery color change or CSS?

  I've tried achieving a hover/selected color change for a particular field, but I'm thinking jQuery is the answer. I've looked into some button click tutorials, but maybe I'm not just seeing it or doing it correctly. The idea here is that when a user hovers over a Headline, the background color changes, when they click the headline to expand it, the background color remains constant (selected), however as it stands right now the background color of the expanded fields do not change.   I wanted to convert some xml to a magazine like pdf document. A lot like what Latext allows you to do however i was not able to find any new books or online tutorials on the subject. Is it worth investing in using this technology or not? Also, I looked at the Apache XSL-FO project and their last release was in august 2008. p.s. commercial packages are not an option :(
