• Looking for design patterns to isolate framework layers from each other

  Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in "isolating" framework objects from each other (Spring, Hibernate, Struts). I'm beginning to see design "problems" where an object from one framework gets used in another object from a different framework. My fear is we're creating tightly coupled objects. For instance, I have an application where we have a DynaActionForm with several attributes...one of which is a POJO generated by the Hibernate Tools. This POJO gets used everywhere...the JSP populates data to it, the Struts Action sends it down to a Service Layer, the DAO will persist it...ack! Now, imagine that someone decides to do a little refactoring on that POJO...so that means the JSP, Action, Service, DAO all needs to be updated...which is kind of painful...There has got to be a better way?! There's a book called Core J2EE Patterns: Best Practices and Design Strategies (2nd Edition)...is this worth a look? I don't believe it touches on any specific frameworks, but it looks like it might give some insight on how to properly layer the application... Thanks!

What i need to do is find out if value in column D in the company data is between the min/max in worksheet 2 output answer in worksheet 2. Please can someone help. This is clearly a vlookup question but i haven't got a clue how to do the min/max. • Assigning large UInt32 constants in VB.Net

  I inquired on VB's erratic behavior of treating all numerics as signed types back in this question, and from the accepted answer there, was able to get by. Per that answer: Visual Basic Literals Also keep in mind you can add literals to your code in VB.net and explicitly state constants as unsigned. So I tried this: Friend Const POW_1_32 As UInt32 = 4294967296UI And VB.NET throws an Overflow error in the IDE. Pulling out the integer overflow checks doesn't seem to help -- this appears to be a flaw in the IDE itself. This, however, doesn't generate an error: Friend Const POW_1_32 As UInt64 = 4294967296UL So this suggests to me that the IDE isn't properly parsing the code and understanding the difference between Int32 and UInt32. Any suggested workarounds and/or possible clues on when MS will make unsigned data types intrinsic to the framework instead of the hacks they currently are?

• Weird stuttering issues not related to GC.

  I am getting some odd stuttering issues with my game even though my FPS never seems to drop below 30. About every 5 seconds my game stutters. I was originally getting stuttering every 1-2 seconds due to my garbage collection issues, but I have sorted those and will often go 15-20 seconds without a garbage collection. Despite this, my game still stutters periodically even when there is no GC listed in logcat anywhere near the stutter. Even when I take out most of my code and simply make my "physics" code the below code I get this weird slowdown issue. I feel that I am missing something or overlooking something. Shouldn't that "elapsed" code that I put in stop any variance in the speed of the main character related to changes in FPS? Any input/theories would be awesome. • Content organizer auto create folder has wrong time in sharepoint 2010

  Hi, I have a problem, I am using the content organizer feature to redirect document on upload and the auto create folder feature of it, the property used is a date set by the user when the document gets uploaded. My problem is that when the folder gets created it writes the time set by the user minus two hours, I see that it uses GMT time while everything on the server, the site and the computers is set to UTC+2, so how come it still uses GMT time ? Can someone help me out please. Thank you.

• PHP in_array() can't even match a single character. Strict is set to true.

  I've seen a million of these threads here already, and read through every single one already. Including some serious time Googling. Nothing complicated. All I have to do is check if a single character in a loop matches my alphabet array. print_r($alphabet); // all 26 letters Array ( [0] => a [1] => b [2] => c ... • convert from physical path to virtual path

  I have this function that gets the fileData as a byte array and a file path. The error I am getting is when it tries to set the fileInfo in the code bewlo. It says 'Physical Path given, Virtual Path expected' public override void WriteBinaryStorage(byte[] fileData, string filePath) { try { // Create directory if not exists. And the error message is 'E:/WEBS/webapp/default/images/mains/myimage.jpg' is a physical path, but a virtual path was expected. Also, what it is triggering this to happen is the following call properties.ResizeImage(imageName, Configurations.ConfigSettings.MaxImageSize, Server.MapPath(Configurations.EnvironmentConfig.LargeImagePath));

• Ubuntu + virtualenv = a mess? virtualenv hates dist-packages, wants site-packages

  Can someone please explain to me what is going on with python in ubuntu 9.04? I'm trying to spin up virtualenv, and the --no-site-packages flag seems to do nothing with ubuntu. I installed virtualenv 1.3.3 with easy_install (which I've upgraded to setuptools 0.6c9) and everything seems to be installed to /usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages I assume that when installing a package using apt-get, it's placed in /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/ ? The issue is, there is a /usr/local/lib/python2.6/site-packages as well that just sits there being empty. It would seem (by looking at the path in a virtualenv) that this is the folder virtualenv uses as backup. Thus even thought I omit --no-site-packages, I cant access my local systems packages from any of my virtualenv's. So my questions are: How do I get virtualenv to point to one of the dist-packages? Which dist-packages should I point it to? /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages or /usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/ What is the point of /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages? There's nothing in there! Is it first come first serve on the path? If I have a newer version of package XYZ installed in /usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/ and and older one (from ubuntu repos/apt-get) in /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages, which one gets imported when I import xyz? I'm assuming this is based on the path list, yes? Why the hell is this so confusing? Is there something I'm missing here? Where is it defined that easy_install should install to /usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages? Will this affect pip as well? Thanks to anyone who can clear this up!

• Breakpoint when variable takes on a certain value.

  I have something analogous to the following code... void function(int x) { // complicated operation on x blah blah } It all appears to be working fine except when x happens to be a particular value, say "273". But x being 273 is a rare event, 99.999% of the time it is some other value. Now I wish to observe the events when this function is called with x=273, so I would like to insert a breakpoint that gets hit only with x is that value. Perhaps I could do it like this: void function(int x) { if (x == 273) { // put breakpoint on this line. } // complicated operation on x blah blah } The problem is that presumably the compiler will optimise away this "if" statement because it doesn't do anything. So my question is what should I put within the "if" statement to to make sure it gets compiled in to something... or should I be tracing the x==273 case in some completely different way.

• How much time should it take to find the sum of all prime numbers less than 2 million?

  I was trying to solve this Project Euler Question. I implemented the sieve of euler as a helper class in java. It works pretty well for the small numbers. But when I input 2 million as the limit it doesn't return the answer. I use Netbeans IDE. I waited for a lot many hours once, but it still didn't print the answer. When I stopped running the code, it gave the following result Java Result: 2147483647 BUILD SUCCESSFUL (total time: 2,097 minutes 43 seconds) This answer is incorrect. Even after waiting for so much time, this isn't correct. While the same code returns correct answers for smaller limits. Sieve of euler has a very simple algo given at the botton of this page. • How can I test whether a csv file is currently open and being written to - the file, not a file hand

  I've seen a few questions/answers here that deal with this, but none really give me an answer/solution. I've got a Clipper system writing csv files to a Windows directory. I have a perl script running on a Linux server that is reading a mount of that Windows directory and importing the files to a database. Right now we're using flag files to indicate when a csv is no longer being written to; the flag files gets written after the csv is done. I'd really rather just get what I need from the csv itself, but I can't seem to find a way to tell when the file is open and being written to. lsof doesn't seem to answer my need. I've tried using flock and open the file with an exclusive lock, thinking it might throw an error if the file is being modified, but it doesn't. Any thoughts?

  i recently was working on an ASP.NET MVC site that basically serves static html and uses ajax gets to return data to the page when inputs are changed. there is actually no posting or getting from an html input tag on the pages at all. (it is a specific style of site that is not used by the general public, so having compatibility problems for people without javascript is not an issue) after designing the site, i realised that i hadn't even included any form tags. as the site does not use any direct posts or gets, and apart from it being just good html design, i wondered, in my particular situation, if there was any point to having any form tags on the page?

The only way I can get it to work is if I null the member object out before reassigning the binding. • Is it easier to write filesystem drivers in userspace than in kernel space?

  I will use the Linux NTFS driver as an example. The Linux kernel NTFS driver only has very limited write support in the kernel, and after 5 years it is still considered experimental. The same development team creates the ntfsmount userspace driver, which has almost perfect write support. Likewise, the NTFS-3G project which is written by a different team also has almost perfect write support. Why has the kernel drive taken so much longer? Is it much harder to develop for? Saying that there already exists a decent userspace application is not a reason why the kernel driver is not compelte. NOTE: Do not migrate this to superuser.com. I want a programing heavy answer, from a programming perspective, not a practical use answer. If the question is not appropriate for SO, please advise me as to why so I can edit it so it is.

The user then click on a different club from the UI and I call a method on a service that gets the new list of authorities for this club. • HTML: When i hide a textbox in a Table, is it expected that the table reformats the space?

  Hi, i have a input type=text in a table (in a TD actually) When a user clicks a checkbox, the input is hidden with Jquery (via the hide method) This makes the style of the input to "display:none;" So far so good. Now, when that has happened, the row where the cell is in is shrunk (the height is lowered) because the only thing left in the row is a <span>, which height is lower than the input height. The net result of this is that the row gets smaller, and when you click the checkbox again the input re-appers and the row gets larger. That doesn't look so nice, so i wondered if there was a way to prevent this? And second: is this the way it should work (the table resizing)?

What is the better way to inplement controllers and views in descendants: - One controller per every descendant; - Controller inheritance; - Generic controller; - Generic methods in one controller. Or maybe there is an another way? My ORM is NHibernate, I have a generic base repository and every repository is its descedant. Using generic controller, I think, is the best way, but in it I will use only generic base repository and extensibility of the system will be not very good. Please, help the newbie)

  How do I strip whitespaces (trim) from the end of a charField in Django? Here is my Model, as you can see I've tried putting in clean methods but these never get run. I've also tried doing name.strip(), models.charField().strip() but these do not work either. Is there a way to force the charField to trim automatically for me?
