• Archiving your contact form data.

  I get TONS of email from customer. Over time, this email helps me to determine what areas in our product collection are opportunities for enhancement or improvement. I store the email that comes from my blog contact form in folders and then search through them looking for trends periodically. It occurred to me that, while I need to get the emails because many of them are actionable, it would be great if I could use reporting and analysis tools against the collection. • Visual Studio 2010 HTML5

  Goal: Enabling HTML5 validation and  IntelliSense for Visual Studio 2010. By default it is set to XHTML 1.1. HTML5 support only came included with SP1 of Visual Studio 2010. However since HTML5 is not an official standard as yet and some of the 30 new elements are not suported in all browsers, so only a subset of the entire HTML5 specification is supported; support for both intellisense and validation for HTML5 with SP1. How to: After installing SP1 you have to tell Visual Studio to start using the HTML5 schema. Go to Tools -> Options, and then select Text Editor -> HTML -> Validation. Select HTML5 or XHTML5 as the target schema. So start building or converting older Visual Studio projects to HTML5 and CSS3 web applications.

• wine: x development files not found

  I downloaded the wine-1.4-rc5.tar.bz2. I ran the tools/wineinstall in terminal. After some time I get this error. checking for X... no configure: error: X development files not found. Wine will be built without X support, which probably isn't what you want. You will need to install development packages of Xlib/Xfree86 at the very least. Use the --without-x option if you really want this. Configure failed, aborting install. I am using Ubuntu 10.04. The installation won't finish. Can I fix this and make wine install ?

• Windows Embedded Compact 7 in Padua

  Yesterday I did a presentation about Windows CE at the University of Padua Even if the picture seems to suggest that I just showed and empty slide, I illustrated the new features of the OS and did a quick demo of Silverlight for Windows Embedded on Windows Embedded Compact 7 (I’ve to get used to this new name), showing the new tools that provide a better integration between Expression Blend and Visual Studio for the development of Silverlight applications (I hope to be able to write more on this topic soon!). The Operating System was running on some real hardware (TI OMAP3530 evaluation board) and many people had a chance to interact with the new customizable shell. Most of the 60 people attending were still awake at the end of the one hour and a half session, and some of them even asked questions! I would like to thank all the people attending and all the people of Arrow, Fortech Embedded Labs and the University of Padua that made this event possible and provide me the tool and the time to do this presentation.   Was working @ home and then arrived nice and early on Monday armed with all this good stuff I did on the weekend. Login,Headphones On, Check Mail and make cup of tea. Goto load up Solution I was working on the weekend@ home What the !!!... If you edit the unloaded Project you will find something like this   For some Murphys rule reason even after hitting VS2010 with SP 1 my work box has lost MVC3 so thats why {E53F8FEA-EAE0-44A6-8774-FFD645390401} is unknown  This site has a list of the VS system guids i.e C#/VB.NET,Workflow etc www.mztools.com/articles/2008/mz2008017.aspx Goto MVC 3 site www.asp.net/mvc/mvc3 and get latest ver and you should be back on track   Note to self going a bit crazy on the Visual Studio Gallery http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/ and installing maybe one to many tools might have something to do with my problems...lol

• VMWare Unity Mode with Ubunty 12.10

  This is a very difficult thing to search for, and find an answer to because of the unfortunate choice VMWare and Ubuntu both having something called "Unity". My host operating system is Windows 7 - 64 bit, running VMWare Workstation 9.0.1. I have a virtual machine running Ubuntu 12.10 - 64 bit. When I attempt to put VMWare in "Unity mode", I get the following message: The virtual machine cannot enter Unity mode because: - Unity is not supported on the guest operating system. From the VMWare site, there is nothing listed that says that Ubuntu is not supported for this... and I have installed the latest vmware-tools on the guest operating system. It seems like a lot of people have had this issue, but I haven't seen a good resolution to it yet. Does anyone know how to get Unity mode working with Ubuntu?

  Coming from Windows, so that is what my expectations are based on. I have a Ubuntu desktop edition instance running as a virtual machine on a server. I would like to use it as my primary open source dev environment but the VNC tools I have used don't seem to be as rich as "Remote Desktop Connection" in Windows. The two things that are missing for me: connecting/logging into a non-console user sessions dynamically resizing the graphical resolution based on the size of the remote desktop window device sharing (USB devices plugged into client shared with remote) Is there an appropriate client that I can run on Windows to connect to my ubuntu dev instance that provides these capabilities?

  I have two sites: www.example.de www.main.com www.main.com is English version of www.example.de which is in German. I want to keep only www.main.com. For the English version I will keep www.main.com, but for German I want to move it to www.main.com/de. I am wondering what would be best solution for old www.example.de: Redirect everything from www.example.de to www.main.com/de using 301 redirect? Redirect everything from www.example.de towww.main.com/de/page-url-of-old-size.html? So each link actually get own address. Is that necessary or will Google realize where the page belongs on new site even if I redirect everything to home page? Any other solution, maybe just set in Google webmaster tools the new domain or anything like that?

• "Google files": Building a web interface to find/ack/grep

  I am working on a project where we would like to have build a web interface that gives the user the ability to "Google" files in a directory in a remote machine. For example, the user would type a string in a box, and then the system would find all files that contain that string and present them in the browser. The system would then give the user the ability click on any of the files to open them/display them in the browser. We want to avoid reinventing the wheel if possible, but don't really know where to start (none of us in the team have much experience building websites). What software packages, libraries or tools exist that can help us get this done?

• quickest way to research a set of pages backlinks

  I have a list of 300+ pages (they were chosen based on which pages rank for a keyword I'm interested in) and I want to compile a list all the (known) inbound links to those pages. What's the fastest way to do this? It seems like the only tools out there-- Yahoo Site Explorer, SEOMoz, Majestic, require you to either a) manually export each set of links by hand, or b) get data at the domain level (e.g. Majestic's clique hunter). Does anyone know of any efficient way to do this? I ask because I'm about to write a bunch of code and I don't want to waste my time if there's another tool that will work. I know SEOMoz and Majestic have API's but I'm wondering if there's a more user-friendly option.

  I want to test each and every project type available on mono. But due to some package dependencies Im unable to run any of "Hello World" project. I have less idea what libraries I need for what. Few days back I have installed gtk-sharp2 but still while running an VB.net Gtk# or C# Gtk# Im getting compilation errors that cli.Gtk does not exist. Is there a way through which I can solve all dependencies by one click ?! I atleast once want to try learning linux app programming. Without the proper tools it is not possible. • Get exact time of each click - AdWords

  I have an AdWords campaign running and want to get a list with all clicks and the exact time the click occured. And I want to do this without having a tracking code on my homepage. So it needs to be via the API (AdWords/Analytics). You might think know that this is not possible. But big Bid Management tools (e.g. Kenshoo) know all details of every click and they don't have tracking code of my website (only on the success page of my contact form). How is that possible? The dimensions in AdWords only let me group the clicks at the hour level.

  I have Visual Studio 2010 setup to remove and sort settings on save with the Power Commands extensions. This is great, but sometimes it removes the using System.Linq at the top. I also find myself scrolling to the top to add the using when I first add System.Linq. • How can I fix unreliable Unity startup?

  When I log in, either Unity loads perfectly or it just doesn't; all I see is my desktop background. Commands don't seem to work and I can't switch to the terminal view. No matter how long I wait, Unity doesn't start. I never had this issue with Oneiric Ocelot. Other GUIs such as GNOME 3.4 don’t seem to be having that issue. I've got MyUbuntu, Ubuntu Tweaks, CompizConf and other tweaking tools installed. Could they be causing the problem? If not, what should I do? I'd really like to use Unity again. Thanks in advance!

• Duplicate page content and the Google index

  I have a static pages with dynamically expanding content that google is indexing. I also have deep links into virtually duplicate pages which will pre-expand the relevant section of content into the relevant section. It seems like Google is ignoring all my specialized pages and not putting them in the index. Even after going through web-masters tools, crawling and submitting them to the index manually. I also use the google API for integrating search on the site, and the deep linked pages won't show up. Is there a good solution for this?
