    I am new to Jquery, In fact, I have 0 knowledge using JQuery. I am trying to get something to work using JQuery. I have a html page with an iframe. The iframe page has a form in it and a textbox in it. The Iframe is actually created by another jquery function and is inside a div. Now, when I click a link on the main page, I want the textbox in the iframe to be populated with some value.   • Find value within a range in lookup table

    I have the simplest problem to implement, but so far I have not been able to get my head around a solution in Python. I have built a table that looks similar to this one: 501 - ASIA 1262 - EUROPE 3389 - LATAM 5409 - US I will test a certain value to see if it falls within these ranges, 389 -> ASIA, 1300 -> LATAM, 5400 -> US. A value greater than 5409 should not return a lookup value. I normally have a one to one match, and would implement a dictionary for the lookup. But in this case I have to consider these ranges, and I am not seeing my way out of the problem. Maybe without providing the whole solution, could you provide some comments that would help me look in the right direction? It is very similar to a vlookup in a spreadsheet. I would describe my Python knowledge as somewhere in between basic to intermediate. Many thanks in advance.

    Hi everyone, We're in the middle of making a new e-commerce related PHP application and we have come to the point where we have started to think about how we should solve templating for our customers needs. What we would like to do is offer our customers the possibility of uploading/modifying templates to suit their company:s profile. The initial thought is that we shall not reinvent the wheel, so instead letting our customers upload their templates with FTP, so there will be basic HTML skills required. For those customers that want to modify/customize template and doesnt have the knowledge, we offer that service as well. I know that there's a number of issues to solve before this could be considered safe, like preventing XSS and writing scripts that check through each uploaded file for potential security threats and so on. Of course, there are some part that probably will be to complex for the customer to modify by themselves, so maybe this approach won't apply to all<< template files in the frontend application. But besides that, what would be a good way to handle this?

    I'm developing commercial CMS running on Google App Engine. I'm thinking of selling it in two ways: 1) Software as a service (SaS). The CMS running in my App Engine account (as single app), hosting the sites of all customers. A turn-key solution for "end user" customers. 2) Licence for running the CMS in customer's own App Engine account. Targeted for digital agencies for reselling as SaS. Being not a lawyer myself, I don't trust my abilities to read between the lines of TOS jargon. Counting on the general knowledge of SO community, my question is: do the above scenarios violate the App Engine Terms of Service?

  • text watermark on website? how to do it?

    I am a C++/C# developer and never spent time working on web pages. I would like to put text (randomly and diagonally perhaps) in large letters across the background of some pages. I want to be able to read the foreground text and also be able to read the "watermark". I understand that is probably more of a function of color selection. I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to do what I want. I would imagine this to be very simple for someone with the web design tools or html knowledge. Any links or sample code? Thanks

  • Can I use a single MySQL query to select distinct rows and then non-distinct rows if a limit hasn't

    I hope I'm explaining this properly, my knowledge of MySQL is quite limited. Let's say I have a table with rows that have name and shape fields. I'd like to select a bunch of rows from a table, but return all of the rows with unique shape field values first. If I have less than a certain number of rows, let's say 7, then I'd like to fill the remaining result rows with non-unique shape rows. The best way I can word it is that they're "ordered by uniqueness, and then by some other value". So, I don't want: square, square, circle, circle, rectangle, square, triangle I'd like to have: square, circle, rectangle, triangle, square, square, circle Is this possible to do using a single SQL query? I'm using MySQL with PHP, if that makes any difference. Thanks!

My knowledge of C++ streams is rather weak. Could someone please explain the following: which streambufs are being referred to in the comment? under what conditions would the streambufs had non-zero bufsizes? last but not the least, can someone point to a resource (pun intended) online that provides a clear but gentle introduction to C++ IO streams?

    Hi, I need to know what can be the main reasons (apart from the basics like grouping CSS selectors, reducing image size, using image sprite etc.) which makes a website slow on Internet Explorer, because my website works fine on the others like FF, chrome etc. Is it the huge use of Javascript framework (ie. jQuery, extjs, prototype)? Is it because of the use of plugins based on JS framework? Should I use core javascript and remove the use of any js framework? Should I try to avoid using jQuery(document).ready()? in case of jQuery framework? Above some of the questions which I know and please answer the questions which I couldn't ask because of lesser knowledge about these. I need to make my website perform well on IE (6,7,8) also please suggest. Thanks

  • Does anybody have practice in programming PCMEF - architectures?

    PCMEF is an architecture style presented in the book Practical Software Engineering by Maciaszek and Liong. The layers are: P: Presentation C: Controller M: Mediator E: Entity F: Foundation. It is some kind of enchancement compared with MVC - architecture. I recommend it to interactice, data and communicating - oriented purposes. I have programmed it using Visual Prolog. Foundation in my applications is the data model (domains) for the application. PCMEF is like a simulated computer: Presentation is the display, Controller the user interface and event handling, Mediator the internal logic and data highway. Entity is the database or external interfaces and F defines the knowledge. This is a really nice small architecture. Does any other have experiance of it?

    I just started using IBM Worklight 5.0. I have been going through the HTTP Adapters recently and have successfully been able to Run as "Invoke Worklight Procedure". But I am stuck with the Adapter execution in the App. To my knowledge I think this is some kind of security issue where the client request to Worklight Server is unauthorized (401). Can any tell me or refer to some blog/website where there are steps to overcome this problem? I already got some of the websites but at this moment I am really confused on how to use them.

  • Improving MySQL Update Query Efficiency

    In our database tables we keep a number of counting columns to help reduce the number of simple lookup queries. For example, in our users table we have columns for the number of reviews written, photos uploaded, friends, followers, etc. To help make sure these stay in sync we have a script that runs periodically to check and update these counting columns. The problem is that now that our database has grown significantly the queries we have been using are taking forever to run since they are totally inefficient. I would appreciate someone with more MySQL knowledge than myself to recommend how we can improve it's efficiency: update users set photos=(select count(*) from photos where photos.status="A" AND photos.user_id=users.id) where users.status="A"; If this were a select statement I would just use a join but I'm not sure if that is possible with update.     These three tests are identical, except that they use a different static function to create a StartInfo instance. I have this pattern coming up all trough my testcode, and would love to be be able to simplify this using [TestCase], or any other way that reduces boilerplate code. To the best of my knowledge I'm not allowed to use a delegate as a [TestCase] argument, and I'm hoping people here have creative ideas on how to make the code below more terse.   • Getting a senior job without the yrs of experience asked for

    Hi, My manager in my current company feels that I am selling myself short by getting another job - but as a senior. He feels I have sold myself short and missing out on a good salary by getting another junior job, given how he (my manager) has a lot of faith in my development skills. However, I have not worked long enough for a proper senior job (5 years +) but then the senior developer we do have in my current company isn't given senior tasks (judged by difficulty).     I have been programming for around 6months and currently learning PHP/Mysql. I can create basic functionally sites starting from a plain sheet of paper. Is it necessary I use frameworks to create sites? Currently, everything I do is from scratch. I'll borrow codes from old codes, ask people for help, etc. Are frameworks going to help me much more? Is it alright if I put a site public without using a framework? (I have not looked a lot into frameworks, so my knowledge is limited, but I'm just curious)

  • How to delay shutdown of an application when user logs off or shuts down Windows?

    I am writing an application that runs in the background from startup to shutdown, and in some circumstances I need the application to display a dialogue for the user to choose whether or not to continue shutting down. This application will only be running on Windows, but may be running on any version from 2000 onward. While I have certainly done some research on the topic, the information regarding the way that windows handles application shut down (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms700677(VS.85).aspx) seems to be a bit scattered.   • Creating a User Registration Page using MongoEngine

    I am currently working an a webapp, using mongoengine and django, which will require users to create an account from a registration page. I know MongoEngine has an authentication backend, but does it also include a registration form, etc..., like django itself does? If not, are there any example projects which show how to implement this? The only open-source mongoengine project I've found is django-mumblr, but I can't find the examples I want in it. I'm not interested in alternative options, such as MongoKit or mango for handling authentication. I am just getting started with django and mongoDB, so please excuse my lack of knowledge.     Hi all, I am thinking to create an e-commerce site for a clothing business. I have bit of a development knowledge in c# .net, html, css and other web technologies. Could you please advise on these questions ? Is it a good idea to create a site from the scratch ? I have a running example of such a site, however it is bit old. So can I start with old site and change the html and code behind ? Some people argue that it is better to use MVC for ecommerce site. Any good reasons ?   • Simple iPhone tally method question

    Just trying to create a simple method that counts up 1 on the tally when the button is pressed. My knowledge is extremely limited and I am pretty sure that my problem is somewhere in the method implementation: -(IBAction) updateTally:(id) sender { NSString *text; int total = 0; total = total + 1; text=[[NSString alloc] initWithFormat: @"%i", total]; lblTally.text = text; } I have done the necessary interface declarations for the lblTally UILabel and the updateTally method. I suspect that there is some sort of an NSString/int/%i/%@ mixup that I am making but I'm not sure how to fix it. When I run the program as it currently is it displays a 0 in the lblTally label field on the iphone. When I press the button it then displays a 1 in that field. However, if I continue to press the button - nothing happens.

  • Using Drools to provide error processing and consequence management

    Hi, I am working on a module whose purpose is to process Java exceptions and decide upon a strategy for dealing with them. The exceptions could be things I know about (explicit business exceptions eg TransformationException) or more general environmental stuff (JMS errors, IO errors etc) The facts inserted into the knowledge base are all the same class, and wrap (contain) an Exception. I want to write a rule that will explicitly match the exceptions I know how to deal with (eg TransformationException) and have another rule that catches 'everything else' The problem seems to me to be that for a fact containing a TransformationException, both rules will fire and the output will be uncertain. How would I go about writing such exclusive rules without relying on salience to steer the order of execution (this seems to be bad practice from what I have read)? I have a solution in place that I am not happy with whereby the outcome depends on the order in which the rules are defined in my .drl.

  • How easy would it be to refactor a small JSP/Servlet/JDBC project to SpringMVC/Hibernate

    With reference to this post, I am considering starting a new web-based Java project. Since I don't know Spring/Hibernate I was concerned if it's a bad plan to start learning them while creating a new project, especially since it will slow down the early development. One idea I had was to write a prototype using tech I do know, namely JSP/Servlets/JDBC, since I can get this running much quicker with my current knowledge. I could then throw the whole thing away and start over with Spring, etc, but I'd like to consider how easy it would be to refactor a smallish project from JSP/Servlets/JDB to SpringMVC/Hibernate? My DB could of course be re-used but what about other code... would I expect to save most of it plugged into an MVC framework, or is the paradigm shift big enough this would cause more trouble than it avoids? Please use the other question for more general advice on choosing technologies

  • IE6 and IE7 Standalone: What do they render differently?

    It's common knowledge on SO (see this question) that to run IE6 and IE7 you need a Windows box (or virtual box) with only those apps installed. I doubt this is true (they are the real versions, I think). The two browsers I'm interested in are: Standalone IE6 from the MultipleIEs install Standalone IE7 also from Tredosoft (but published elsewhere) These two plus a "real" install of IE8 give you three IE versions in one Windows install. We all know that "You're out of luck if you're trying to run them all reliably in one VM," but can someone please show me JS, CSS, or HTML (or a plugin, etc.) that does not work on the standalone versions as it should? Downvoters: I'm fixing the question so that it's less aggressive, but since there are no comments I don't know what you don't like about this question. Also: I have ALL the test cases set up (IE6, IE7 and IE8, as well as the standalone versions) so if anybody has any code they want me to test, I can do that.

    Java generates a proxy class for a given interface and provides the instance of the proxy class. But when we type cast the proxy object to our specific Object, how java handles this internally? Is this treated as special scenario? For example I have class 'OriginalClass' and it implements 'OriginalInterface', when I create proxy object by passing 'OriginalInterface' interface java created proxy class 'ProxyClass' using methods in the provided interface and provides object of this class(i.e ProxyClass). If my understanding is correct then can you please answer following queries 1) When I type cast object of ProxyClass to my class OriginalClass this works, but how java is allowing this? Same in case of instace of? 2) As my knowledge java creates a proxy class only with the methods, but what happen when I try to access attributes on this object? 3) Only interface methods are getting implemented in Proxy, but what happens when I try to access a method which not in interface and only mentioned in the class?
