• How can I block a specific type of DDoS attack?

  My site is being attacked and is using up all the RAM. I looked at the Apache logs and every malicious hit seems to simply be a POST request on /, which is never required by a normal user. So I thought and wondered if there's any sort of solution or utility that will monitor my Apache logs and block every IP that performs a POST request on the site root. I'm not familiar with DDoS protection and searching didn't seem to give me an answer, so I came here. Thanks. • Why is the framerate (fps) capped at 60?

  ISSUE I recently moved a project from my laptop to my desktop(machine info below). On my laptop the exact same code displays the fps(and ms/f) correctly. On my desktop it does not. What I mean by this is on the laptop it will display 300 fps(for example) where on my desktop it will show only up to 60. If I add 100 objects to the game on the laptop I'll see my frame rate drop accordingly; the same test on the desktop results in no change and the frames stay at 60. It takes a lot(~300) entities before I'll see a frame drop on the desktop, then it will descend. It seems as though its "theoretical" frames would be 400 or 500 but will never actually get to that and only do 60 until there's too much to handle at 60. This 60 frame cap is coming from no where. I'm not doing any frame limiting myself. It seems like something external is limiting my loop iterations on the desktop, but for the last couple days I've been scratching my head trying to figure out how to debug this. SETUPS Desktop: Visual Studio Express 2012 Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Laptop: Visual Studio Express 2010 Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit The libraries(allegro, box2d) are the same versions on both setups. CODE Main Loop: while(!abort) { frameTime = al_get_time(); if (frameTime - lastTime >= 1.0) { lastFps = fps/(frameTime - lastTime); lastTime = frameTime; avgMspf = cumMspf/fps; cumMspf = 0.0; fps = 0; } /** DRAWING/UPDATE CODE **/ fps++; cumMspf += al_get_time() - frameTime; } Note: There is no blocking code in the loop at any point. Where I'm at My understanding of al_get_time() is that it can return different resolutions depending on the system. However the resolution is never worse than seconds, and the double is represented as [seconds].[finer-resolution] and seeing as I'm only checking for a whole second al_get_time() shouldn't be responsible. My project settings and compiler options are the same. And I promise its the same code on both machines. My googling really didn't help me much, and although technically it's not that big of a deal. I'd really like to figure this out or perhaps have it explained, whichever comes first. Even just an idea of how to go about figuring out possible causes, because I'm out of ideas. • Xdebug configuration with PHP fastcgi and eclipse?

  I have been using eclipse-pdt in conjunction with xdebug and apache without problems, for over one year. Things worked flawlessly and I could do all the interactive debugging I wanted from within eclipse (using my own machine as a server). Now I switched from apache to nginx (and therefore PHP runs now not as an Apache service but as fast-cgi) and I can't find a way to configure eclipse to work nicely with xdebug. I am neither sure if the problem is with xdebug or with eclipse (or both) to be sure. In the eclipse configuration I already changed the reference to the PHP configuration file to /etc/php5/cli/php.ini. Attempts with php.ini version 1 With the following php.ini file zend_extension=/usr/lib/php5/20060613/xdebug.so I see that xdebug is working (for example if I do a var_dump() I get the xdebug version of it, not the plain PHP one) I can't have the interactive debugging from eclipse: the browser opens up and loads the page completely with the typical URL containing ...?XDEBUG_SESSION_START=ECLIPSE_DBGP&KEY=..., but the program execution does not stop at breakpoints In the bottom-right corner of eclipse I see a suspicious message: *"Launching =put_the_name_of_my_project_here=: 57%"* that alternates with the "refreshing workspace" one. • raw h.264 packet capture and playing in VLC

  Hi, I am capturing packets off the network from a video conference HDX. The video is sent in RTP and is encoded in H264. I am trying to capture these packets and generate a video file. I wrote raw H264 data from the packets to disk and i am trying to play it in VLC. VLC just shows a green box. Am i being too naive in my approach with data writing or should am I wrong in assuming that VLC should play this file? Anyone have any experience in such things?

• Measuring text with sizeWithFont returns height one line too short

  In an iPhone app I'm working on, I'm trying to get a UILabel to dynamically adjust its size based on its content. To do so, I'm using NSString's sizeWithFont:constrainedToSize method to measure the height of the text when constrained to a given width, and then set the UILabel to that width and the returned height. The problem however, is that roughly half the time sizeWithFont is returning a height for the text that is one line too short. This happens mostly with long strings (a couple of hundred characters), but also very occasionally with shorter strings (less than one hundred). For reference, my code looks like the following (textLabel is the UILabel in question and is a member variable, TEXT_WIDTH is the desired label width): - (void) setLabelText:(NSString*) text { CGSize bounds = CGSizeMake(TEXT_WIDTH, CGFLOAT_MAX); int textHeight = [text sizeWithFont:textLabel constrainedToSize:bounds lineBreakMode:UILineBreakModeWordWrap].height; CGRect newFrame = CGRectMake(0, 0, TEXT_WIDTH, textHeight); [textLabel setFrame:newFrame]; } Just to be clear, I don't believe the issue is with the UILabel, as I've manually inspected the value being returned by sizeWithFont and can confirm that the number being returned for the height is too small on the occasions when the label is also too small.

• Core Animation problem on iPhone

  I'm new to iPhone development, and doing some experimentation with Core Animation. I've run into a small problem regarding the duration of the animation I'm attempting. Basically, Ive got a view with two subviews, and I'm trying to animate their opacity so that one fades in while the other fades out. Problem is, instead of a gradual fade in/out, the subviews simply switch instantly to/from full/zero opacity. I've tried to adjust the animation duration with CATransaction with no noticable effect. It's also not specific to animating opacity - animating position shows the same problem. • How to write an iphone application to control a device that exposes a telnet api

  Hi! I have to write an iphone application that controls a device. This device exposes a telnet based interface. The application should ideally have user access control and customizability for each user. I was thinking of writing C++ classes that would communicate with the device using sockets. This functionality can then be exposed through web-services that can be called by the iphone application. However as i looked into it deeper, the api allows you to register for events using telnet and then you can receive notification when those events occur. That kinda put a spanner in the works for me. I for one dont know a "push" scenario can work with webservices. First off i have never programmed for the iphone so far. So i am not really sure what can be done. So i was thinking if instead of having a webserver to go through, why not have the application independently running on the iphone, directly communicating with the device using sockets. The question though is, is that possible and second i am thinking it would raise a security aspect. First we could control security as everything was going through our central server. Is there a way to handle security (in the sense who has access to the device) without having a central server. I am sorry that this seems like an unorganized post, but iam trying to brainstorm here. • Should I mix wxpython and pyobjc ?

  I have a wxPython based app which I am porting to Mac OS X, in that I need to show some alerts which should look like native mac alerts, so I am using pyobjc for that e.g. import Cocoa import wx app = wx.PySimpleApp() frame = wx.Frame(None, title="mac alert test") app.SetTopWindow(frame) frame.Show() def onclick(event): Cocoa.CFUserNotificationDisplayAlert(0, 3, 0, 0, 0, "Should i mix wxpython and objc", "hmmm...", "Cool", "Not Cool", "Whatever") frame.Bind(wx.EVT_LEFT_DOWN, onclick) app.MainLoop() Is there any thing wrong in such mixing of wx and objc code, any failure points ?

• Mutability design patterns in Objective C and C++

  Having recently done some development for iPhone, I've come to notice an interesting design pattern used a lot in the iPhone SDK, regarding object mutability. It seems the typical approach there is to define an immutable class NSFoo, and then derive from it a mutable descendant NSMutableFoo. Generally, the NSFoo class defines data members, getters and read-only operations, and the derived NSMutableFoo adds on setters and mutating operations. Being more familiar with C++, I couldn't help but notice that this seems to be a complete opposite to what I'd do when writing the same code in C++. While you certainly could take that approach, it seems to me that a more concise approach is to create a single Foo class, mark getters and read-only operations as const functions, and also implement the mutable operations and setters in the same class. You would then end up with a mutable class, but the types Foo const*, Foo const& etc all are effectively the immutable equivalent. I guess my question is, does my take on the situation make sense? I understand why Objective-C does things differently, but are there any advantages to the two-class approach in C++ that I've missed? Or am I missing the point entirely? Not an overly serious question - more for my own curiosity than anything else.

• iPhone app with tab bar and navigation bar as peers

  I'm trying to write an application that uses a navigation bar and tab bar in what (I'm gathering) is an unusual manner. Basically, I've got several "pages" ("home", "settings", etc) that each have their own tab. I'd also like to have it so that the "home" page is the root view of the navigation bar, and the other pages are the second-level views of the navigation bar. That is, I should be able to navigate to any page by clicking the appropriate tab bar item, and should be able to navigate to the home page from any other page by clicking the navigation bar's back button. Currently, I have a UINavigationBar (through a UINavigationController) and a UITabBar (through a UITabController) as children of a UIView. The various pages' view controllers are set as the tab controller's viewControllers property, and the home page's controller is also set as the navigation controller's root view. Each page view's tag is set to its index in the tab control. I have the following logic in the tab controller's didSelectViewController delegate method: - (void) tabBarController:(UITabBarController*) tabBarController didSelectViewController:(UIViewController*) viewController { if ([navController.viewControllers count] > 1) [navController popViewControllerAnimated:NO]; [navController pushViewController:viewController animated:YES]; } Also, in the navigation controller's didShowViewController delegate method, I have the following code: - (void) navigationController:(UINavigationController *) navigationController didShowViewController:(UIViewController *)viewController animated:(BOOL)animated { tabController.selectedIndex = viewController.view.tag; } The problem that's occurring is that when I run this, the navigation bar, tab bar and home page all display ok, but the tab bar will not respond to input - I cannot select a different tab. I gather it's more usual to have the tab bar as the child of the navigation control, or vice versa. This doesn't seem to fit my approach, because I don't want to have to individually create the subordinate control each time a change occurs in the parent control - eg: recreate tab bar each time the navigation bar changes. Does anyone have suggestions as to what's wrong and how to fix it? I'm probably missing something obvious, but whatever it is I can't seem to find it. Thanks! EDIT: I'm guessing it has something to do with both controller's trying to have ownership of the page controller, but I can't for the life of me figure out a way around it.

• Mutating XML in Clojure

  Clojures clojure.xml/parse, clojure.zip/xml-zip and clojure.contrib.zip-filter.xml/xml- are excellent tools for pulling values out of xml, but what if I want to change the xml (the result of clojure.zip/xml-zip) based on what I learn from xml- "queries" and write the result back out as xml? I would have expected that (clojure.contrib.prxml/prxml (clojure.xml/parse xml-content)) spit back xml, but that is not the case.

For example, I want to show a employees by Age in a percentage in an SSRS report. 1.How many % employees between age 20 and 30? 2.How many % employees between age 30 and 40? 3.How many % employees between age 40 and 50? When I run my webapp to generate a dynamic excel doc from my local machine it works fine but when the same piece of code is invoked on the server I get the below error. • How to use a specific Windows SDK with MSBuild?

  I have a large project made of many C++ and C# projects, and a MSBuild (3.5) script to build the whole thing. This script is based on the VCBuild (C++ projects) and MSBuild (C# projects) tasks. It is regularly executed by a Continuous Integration server. I want to be able to select a specific Windows SDK (v6.0A, v7.0, v7.1...) to be used for compilation. As I have many branches in my repository that would ultimately need a different SDK version, I need a way to select the right one before each compilation. On my computer, I have been able to setup a batch script that calls the right SetEnv.cmd before launching the MSBuild script. But this solution is not usable on the CI server as the MSBuild script is executed directly. Do you know of a way to achieve the equivalent of SetEnv.cmd under MSBuild?
