• Need help identiying a nasty rootkit in Windows

  I have a nasty rootkit that not tools seem to be able to idenity. I know for sure it's a rootkit, but I can figure out which rootkit it is. Here's what I gathered so far: It creates multiple copies of itself in %HOME%\Local Settings\Temp with names like Q.EXE, IAJARZ.exe, etc., and install them as hidden services. These EXE have SysInternals identifiers in them so they're definitely rootkits. It hooked very deep in the system, including file read/write, security policies, registry read/write, and possibly WinSock/TCP/IP. When going to Sophos.com to download their software, the rootkit inject something called Microsoft Ajax Tootkit into the page, which injects code into the email submission form in order to redirect it. (EDIT: I might have panicked. Looks like Sophos does use an AJAZ email form, their form is just broken on Chrome so it looked like a mail form injection attack, the link is http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/virus-removal-tool/download.aspx ) Super-Antispyware found a lot of spyware cookies, in the name of .kaspersky.2o7.net, etc. (just chedk 2o7.net, looks like it's a legit ad company) I tried comparing DNS lookup from the infected systems and from system in other physical locations, no DNS redirections it seems. I used dd to copy the MBR and compared it with the MBR provided by ms-sys package, no differences so it's not infecting MBR. No antivirus or rootkit scanner be able to identify it. Most of them can't even find it. I tried scanning, in-situ (normal mode), in safe mode, and boot to linux live CD. Scanners used: Avast, Sophos anti rootkit, Kasersky TDSSKiller, GMER, RootkitRevealer, and many others. Kaspersky reported some unsigned system files that ought to be signed (e.g. tcpip.sys), and reported a number of MD5 mismatches. But otherwise couldn't identify anything based on signature. When running Sysinternal RootkitRevealer and Sophos AntiRootkit, CPU usage goes up to 100% and gets stucked. The Rootkit is blocking them. When trying running/installing HiJackThis, RootkitRevealer and some other scanners, it tells me system security policy prevent running/installing it. The list of malicious acitivities go on and on. here's a sample of logs from all my scans. In particular, aswSnx.SYS, apnenfno.sys and PROCMON20.SYS has a huge number of hooks. It's hard to tell if the rootkit replaced legit program files like aswSnx.SYS (from Avast) and PROCMON20.SYS (from Sysinternal Process Monitor). I can't find whether apnenfno.sys is from a legit program. Help to identify it is appreciated. • curl can't verify cert using capath, but can with cacert option

  I am trying to use curl to connect to a site using HTTPS. • Unable to list contents/remove directory (linux ext3)

  System is CentOS5 x86_64, completely up to date. I've got a folder that can't be listed (ls just hangs, eating memory until it is killed). The directory size is nearly 500k: root@server [/home/user/public_html/domain.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03]# stat . File: `.' Size: 458752 Blocks: 904 IO Block: 4096 directory Device: 812h/2066d Inode: 44499071 Links: 2 Access: (0755/drwxr-xr-x) Uid: ( 3292/ user) Gid: ( 3287/ user) Access: 2012-06-29 17:31:47.000000000 -0400 Modify: 2012-10-23 14:41:58.000000000 -0400 Change: 2012-10-23 14:41:58.000000000 -0400 I can see the file names if I use ls -1f, but it just repeats the same 48 files ad infinitum, all of which have non-ascii characters somewhere in the file name: La-critic\363-al-servicio-la-privacidad-300x160.jpg When I try to access the files (say to copy them or remove them) I get messages like the following: lstat("/home/user/public_html/domain.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Sebast\355an-Pi\361era-el-balc\363n-150x120.jpg", 0x7fff364c52c0) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) I tried altering the code found on this man page and modified the code to call unlink for each file. I get the same ENOENT error from the unlink call: unlink("/home/user/public_html/domain.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Marca-naci\363n-Madrid-150x120.jpg") = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) I also straced a "touch", grabbed the syscalls it makes and replicated them, then tried to unlink the resulting file by name. This works fine, but the folder still contains an entry by the same name after the operation completes and the program runs for an arbitrarily long time (strace output ended up at 20GB after 5 minutes and I stopped the process). I'm stumped on this one, I'd really prefer not to have to take this production machine (hundreds of customers) offline to fsck the filesystem, but I'm leaning toward that being the only option at this point. If anyone's had success using other methods for removing files (by inode number, I can get those with the getdents code) I'd love to hear them. (Yes, I've tried find . -inum <inode> -exec rm -fv {} \; and it still has the problem with unlink returning ENOENT) For those interested, here's the diff between that man page's code and mine.   I am having problems pinging from a 5505(remote) to IP 10.160.70.10 in the network behind the 5540(HQ side). 5505 inside IP: 10.56.0.1 Out: 71.43.109.226 5540 Inside: 10.1.0.8 out: 64.129.214.27 I Can ping from 5540 to 5505 inside 10.56.0.1. I also ran ASDM packet tracer in both directions, it is ok from 5540 to 5505, but drops the packet from 5505 to 5540. It gets through the ACL and dies at the NAT.   I have this annoying mistake in some of my builds. There is no error in the project, because if I build again, then the problem disappears. The message only appears, when the site is deployed to a Windows 2008 Server. I first thought that it might be an issue with temporary files, but thats not the case. I deployed the build to a different web and the error still appears. The error appears on random actions of the site. Most of the time builds are ok, but each 3rd or 4th build produces runtime errors. I build using a WebdeploymentProject in release mode. Views are precompiled.   I'm new to Entity Framework and I got stuck in an issue while trying to bind a navigation property (foreign key reference) to a dropdownlist. I have Telerik RadGrid control which gets the data using a EntityDataSource control. Here is the model description: Applications: AppId, AppName, ServerId Servers: ServerId, ServerName The Applicaitons.ServerId is a foreign key reference to Servers.ServerId. The RadGrid lists the applications and allows the user to insert/update/delete an application. I want to show the server names as a dropdownlist in edit mode which I'm not able to. . • Best Method to SFTP or FTPS Files via SSIS

  What is the best method using SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) to upload a file to either a remote SFTP (secure FTP with SSH2 protocal) or FTPS (FTP over SSL) site? I've used the following methods, but each has short-comings I would like to avoid: COZYROC LIBRARY Method: Install the CozyRoc library on each development and production server and use the SFTP task to upload the files. Pros: Easy to use. It looks, smells, and feels like a normal SSIS task. SSIS also recognizes the password as sensitive information and allows you all the normal options for protecting the sensitive information instead of just storing it in clear text in a non-secure manner. Works well with other SSIS tasks such as ForEach Loop Containers. Errors out when uploads and downloads fail. Works well when you don't know the names of the files on the remote FTP site to download or when you won't know the name of the file to upload until run-time. Cons: Costs money to license in a production environment. Makes you dependent upon the vendor to update their libraries between each version. Although they already have a 2008 version, this caused me a problem during the CTP's of 2008. Requires installing the libraries on each development and production machine. COMMAND LINE SFTP PROGRAM Method: Install a free command-line SFTP application such as Putty and execute it either by running a batch file or operating system process task. Pros: Free, free, and free. You can be sure it is secure if you are using Putty since numerous GUI FTP clients appear to use Putty under the covers. You DEFINATELY know you are using SSH2 and not SSH. Cons: The two command-line utilities I tried (Putty and Cygwin) required storing the SFTP password in a non-secure location. I haven't found a good way to capture failures or errors when uploading files. The process doesn't look and smell like SSIS. Most of the code is encapsulated in text files instead of SSIS itself. Difficult to use if you don't know the exact name of the file you are uploading or downloading. A 3RD PARTY C# or VB.NET LIBRARY Method: Install a SFTP or FTPS library and use a Script Task that references the library to upload the files. (I've never tried this, so I'm going to guess at the pros and cons) Pros: Probably easy to capture errors. Should work well with variables, so it would probably be easy to use even when you don't know the exact name of the file you are uploading or downloading. Cons: It's a script task combined with .NET libraries. If you are using SSIS, then you probably are more comfortable with SSIS tasks then .NET code. Script tasks are also difficult to troubleshoot since they don't have the same debugging tools and features as regular .NET projects. Creates a dependency on 3rd party code that may not work between different versions of SQL Server. To be fair, it is probably MORE likely to work between different versions of SQL Server than a 3rd party SSIS task library. Another huge con -- I haven't found a free C# or VB.NET library that does this as of yet. So if anyone knows of one, then please let me know!

• Help With Database Layout

  Hello everyone, I am working on a site similar to Craigslist where users can make postings and sell items in different cities. One difference between my site and Craigslist will be you will be able to search by zip code instead of having all of the cities listed on the page. I already have the ZIP Code database that has all of the city, state, latitude, longitude, and zip code info for each city. Okay, so to dive into what I need done and what I need help with: 1.) Although I have the ZIP Code database, it is not setup perfectly for my use. (I downloaded it off of the internet for free from http://zips.sourceforge.net/) 2.) I need help setting up my database structure (Ex: How many different tables should I use and how should I link them) I will be using PHP and MySQL. These our my thoughts so far on how the database can be setup: (I am not sure if this will work though.) Scenario: Someone goes to the homepage and it will tell them, "Please enter your ZIP Code.". If they enter "17241" for example, this ZIP Code is for a city named Newville located in Pennsylvania. The query would look like this with the current database setup: SELECT city FROM zip_codes WHERE zip = 17241; The result of the query would be "Newville". The problem I see here now is when they want to post something in the Newville section of the site, I will have to have an entire table setup just for the Newville city postings. There are over 42,000 cities which means I would have to have over 42,000 tables (one for each city) so that would be insane to have to do it that way. One way I was thinking of doing it was to add a column to the ZIP Code database called "city_id" which would be a unique number assigned to each city. So for example, the city Newville would have a city_id of 83. So now if someone comes and post a listing in the city Newville I would only need one other table. That one other table would be setup like this: CREATE TABLE postings ( posting_id INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, for_sale LONGTEXT NULL, for_sale_date DATETIME NULL, for_sale_city_id INT NULL, jobs LONGTEXT NULL, jobs_date DATETIME NULL, jobs_city_id INT NULL, PRIMARY KEY(posting_id) ); (The for_sale and job_ column names are categories of the types of postings users will be able to list under. There will be many more categories than just those two but this is just for example.) So now when when someone comes to the website and they are looking for something to buy and not sell, they can enter their ZIP Code, 17241, for example, and this is the query that will run: SELECT city, city_id FROM zip_codes WHERE zip = 17241; //Result: Newville 83 (Please note that I will be using PHP to store the ZIP Code the user enters in SESSIONS and Cookies to remember them throughout the site) Now it will tell them, "Please choose your category.". If they choose the category "Items For Sale" then this is the query to run and sort the results: SELECT posting_id, for_sale, for_sale_date FROM postings WHERE for_sale_city_id = $_SESSION['zip_code']; Will this work? So now my question to everyone is will this work? I am pretty sure it will but I do not want to set this thing up and realize I overlooked something and have to start from all over from scratch. • Complex SQL query help on aggregating values for nested subquery

  Hi! I have people, companies, employees, events and event kinds. I'm making a report/followup sheet where people, companies and employees are the rows, and the columns are event kinds. Event kinds are simple values describing: "Promised Donation", "Received Donation", "Phoned", "Followed up" and such. Event kinds are ordered: CREATE TABLE event_kinds ( id, name, position); Events hold the actual reference to the event: CREATE TABLE events ( id, person_id, company_id, referrer_id, event_kind_id, created_at); referrer_id is another reference to people. It is the person which sent the information/tip along, and is an optional field, although I sometimes want to filter on an event_kind that has a specific referrer, while I don't for other event kinds. Notice I don't have an employee ID reference. The reference exists, but is implied. I have application code to validate that person_id and company_id really reference an employee record. The other tables are pretty basic: CREATE TABLE people ( id, name); CREATE TABLE companies ( id, name); CREATE TABLE employees ( id, person_id, company_id); I'm trying to achieve the following report: Referrer Phoned Promised Donated Francois Feb 16th Feb 20th Mar 1st Apple (Steve Jobs) Steve Ballmer Mar 3rd IBM Bill Gates Mar 7th The first row is a people record, the 2nd is an employee, and the 3rd is a company. If I asked for referrer Bill Gates for Phoned event kinds, I'd only see the 3rd row, while asking for Steve and Phoned would return no rows. Right now, I do 3 queries, one for companies, one for people and a last one for employees. I want the event kind columns to be ordered, but I do that in application code and show it properly there. There should be an "easier" way to do it. One other filter criteria would be to filter on people/company names: WHERE LOWER(companies.name) LIKE '%apple%'. Note that I'm ordering by the dates of event_kind_9 here, and a secondary sort is by person/company name. To summarize: I want to paginate the result set, find the latest event for each cell, order the result set by the date of the latest event, and by company/person name, filter by referrer in some event kinds, but not others. For reference, I'm using PostgreSQL, from Ruby, ActiveRecord/Rails. The solution is pure SQL though.

• FOSUserBundle override mapping to remove need for username

  I want to remove the need for a username in the FOSUserBundle. My users will login using an email address only and I've added real name fields as part of the user entity. I realised that I needed to redo the entire mapping as described here. I think I've done it correctly but when I try to submit the registration form I get the error: "Only field names mapped by Doctrine can be validated for uniqueness." The strange thing is that I haven't tried to assert a unique constraint to anything in the user entity. A strongly named application or component cannot reference a weak-named component, so strong-naming an EXE prevents the EXE from referencing weak-named DLLs that are deployed with the application. For this reason, the Visual Studio project system does not strong-name application EXEs. Instead, it strong-names the Application manifest, which internally points to the weak-named application EXE. I expected VS to avoid this problem, but I had no luck there, it complained about all the unsigned references, so I created a separate "WCF Service Library" project inside my solution containing only code above and signed that one. At this point entire solution compiled just okay. And here's my problem: When I fired up "WCF Service Configuration Editor" I was able to add new behavior element extension (say "AuthExtension"), but then when I tried to add that extension to my end point behavior it gives me: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. The DLL is not normally signed, but I provided a signed version to test and received the same results. The installation is being done by someone else, and I don’t have access to the box, but they are executing scripts that I provided and work on other computers. I have tried to find information about this error beyond what the results of the script provide, but I haven’t found anything helpful. The person executing the script to create the assembly is logged in with an Admin account, is running CMD as admin, is connecting to the DB via Windows Authentication, has been added to the dbo_owner role, and added to the server role SysAdmin with the hopes that it is a permissions issue. This hasn't changed anything. Do I need to configure SQL Server 2005 Express differently for this environment? Is this error logged anywhere other than just the output from SQLCMD? What could cause this error? Could Vista security policies cause this? I don’t have access to the computer (the customer is doing the testing) so I can’t examine the box myself. TIA

• no namenode error in pseudo-mode

  I'm new to hadoop and is in learning phase. As per Hadoop Definitve guide, i have set up my hadoop in pseudo distributed mode and everything was working fine. I was even able to execute all the examples from chapter 3 yesterday. Today, when i rebooted my unix and tried to run start-dfs.sh and then tried http://localhost/50070....it is showing error and when i try to stop dfs (stop-dfs.sh) it says no namenode to stop. I have been googling the issue but no result. Also, when i format my namenode again...everything starts working fine and i'm able to connect to the localhost/50070 and even replicate files and directories in hdfs but as soon as i restart my linux and try to connect to hdfs the same problem comes up.   I want to use RenderPartial twice in my view with different models associated. The problem is that some properties are present in both models (nickname, password). They have no prefix, so even the id's or names are equal in the output. Now, if I have model errors for nickname or password, both fields get highlighted. • How to get selected values from a dynamically created DropDownList Array after PostBack (Button Click)

  I have a CheckBoxList that contains Employee Names on a Wizard Step. When employees are selected and the active step is changed, the Wizard1_ActiveStepChanged function is called and it dynamically creates a DropDownList Array for each employee that is selected. Each DropDownList specifies a condition of the employee. The DropDownList is created properly. When the user clicks submit, the DropDownList array is deleted and no selected values can be pulled from the array. I understand this is an issue with the PostBack and can be fixed with ViewState, but I am trying to figure out what I can do to fix it. ViewState is enabled for the checkboxlist and the DropDownList. • Lots of mysql Sleep processes

  Hello, I am still having trouble with my mysql server. It seems that since i optimize it, the tables were growing and now sometimes is very slow again. I have no idea of how to optimize more. mySQL server has 48GB of RAM and mysqld is using about 8, most of the tables are innoDB. Site has about 2000 users online. • How to "DRY up" C# attributes in Models and ViewModels?

  This question was inspired by my struggles with ASP.NET MVC, but I think it applies to other situations as well. Now imagine this scenario multiplied by 10 or 100, and you can see that it can quickly become quite tedious and error prone to ensure consistency across ViewModels (and therefore across Views). How can I "DRY up" this code? Before you answer, "Just put all the attributes on FooModel," I've tried that, but it didn't work because I need to keep my ViewModels "flat". In other words, I can't just compose each ViewModel with a Model--I need my ViewModel to have only the properties (and attributes) that should be consumed by the View, and the View can't burrow into sub-properties to get at the values. Update LukLed's answer suggests using inheritance. This definitely reduces the amount of non-DRY code, but it doesn't eliminate it. Note that, in my example above, the DisplayName attribute for the Category property would need to be written twice because the data type of the property is different between the display and edit ViewModels. This isn't going to be a big deal on a small scale, but as the size and complexity of a project scales up (imagine a lot more properties, more attributes per property, more views per model), there is still the potentially for "repeating yourself" a fair amount. Perhaps I'm taking DRY too far here, but I'd still rather have all my "friendly names", data types, validation rules, etc. typed out only once.

• Autocomplete jQuery on User Controller within Repeater .NET

  I have a Multiview search feature on a Web User Controller that is called within a Repeater, OHMY!! I have some training sessions being listed out on a page, each calling an employeeSearch Web User Controller so people can search for employees to add to the training session. I have the Employee Names and Employee IDs listed out in JS on the page and using the jQuery autocomplete i have them search for the employee and populate a hidden field in the User controller. Once the process is done they have the option of adding yet another employee. So i had Autocompelte 'work' in all the employee search boxes, but one i do the initial search (postback) autocomplete won't work again. I can't move the jQuery into the page calling all the controllers because i have no way of referencing the specific *tb_EmployeeName* textbox AND *hf_EmployeeID* hidden field.
