• How do you get an add-on to run in Firefox 4?

  I have an add-on called Flash-Aid in Firefox 4 on my Ubuntu build, but ever since Mozilla came up with their new UI, I haven't been able to figure out how to get add-ons to actually run within Firefox. Double clicking them just opens up a detail page about them and there are no options to run them. With most add-ons, this isn't a problem since they usually don't need to be explicitly run, but this one does. Can someone tell me how to do this?

• How to add usbnet driver to the Linux kernel?

  I want to add usb network support to a real-time Linux distribution we're using at work. USB devices are recognized, but when connecting a usb network adapter no network interface is created. From what I've read this requires recompiling the kernel build with usbnet support enabled. I don't mind doing this, but the problem is that I can't seem to find any instructions on how to do this. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

• Set automatic axis limits without defaulting to zero (Excel)

  I am build a bar chart in Excel with data values ranging from e.g. 10 to 20. I want the X axis limits to be automatic, but although the right limit (near 20) works correctly, the left limit always defaults to 0. I'd like the left limit to be near 10, instead of zero, without having to have the limit fixed. Is there any way to do this?

  What is the easiest way to setup full Clang, libc++ and LLVM as default global toolchain? All of my attempts to build it, in most of the configurations I could think of, resulted in working Clang, but it didn't use libc++ headers, but default GCC's libstd++'s ones, resulting in numerous faults in incompatible pieces of library code. I would like it working out of the box, without having to do magic in .bashrc or passing all those -stdlib=libc++ and -lc++ to compiler and linker.

  In early 2010 my motherboard freaked out, and I was able to drop in a new board and connect my two DVD drives that were initially bought in 2005. Tonight my new components arrived to build my next system, and I figured I'd just reuse the old DVD drives. Surprise, the long flat connector cable has no mate on the new motherboard.   I have created a simple desktop application that I want to use to post status updates for the users of my app. Here's the kicker though that I am having trouble figuring out, the desktop application runs as part of a batch process every night, in which I update the status of certain users. Since I dont have any user interaction in a nightly batch process, I cannot use the ConnectToFaceBook method on the FaceBookService to obtain a sessionKey for the user. Ideally I would like to prompt for authorization and extended permissions for my desktop app when a user logins into the web front end then save the sessionKey and uid in the database. At night when my process runs, I would reference the sessionKey and uid in order and update the user's status. I am finding myself fumbling between whether or not my app should be a web or desktop app. Having both a web and desktop app would be confusing to my users, because they would have to grant/manage permissions for both apps. And I looking at this the wrong way? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

• Saxon XSLT-Transformation: How to change serialization of an empty tag from <x/> to <x></x>?

  Hello folks! I do some XSLT-Transformation using Saxon HE 9.2 with the output later being unmarshalled by Castor 1.3.1. The whole thing runs with Java at the JDK 6. My XSLT-Transformation looks like this: <xsl:transform version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:ns="http://my/own/custom/namespace/for/the/target/document"> <xsl:output method="xml" encoding="UTF-8" indent="no" /> <xsl:template match="/"> <ns:item> <ns:property name="id"> <xsl:value-of select="/some/complicated/xpath" /> </ns:property> <!-- ... more ... --> </xsl:template> So the thing is: if the XPath-expression /some/complicated/xpath evaluates to an empty sequence, the Saxon serializer writes <ns:property/> instead of <ns:property></ns:property>. This, however, confuses the Castor unmarshaller, which is next in the pipeline and which unmarshals the output of the transformation to instances of XSD-generated Java-code. So my question is: How can I tell the Saxon-serializer to output empty tags not as standalone tags? • Query Results Not Expected

  I've been a CF developer for 15 years and I've never run into anything this strange or frustrating. I've pulled my hair out for hours, googled, abstracted, simplified, prayed and done it all in reverse. Can you help me? A cffunction takes one string argument and from that string I build an array of "phrases" to run a query with, attempting to match a location name in my database. For example, the string "the republic of boulder" would produce the array: ["the","republic","of","boulder","the republic","the republic of","the republic of boulder","republic of","republic of boulder","of boulder"]. Another cffunction uses the aforementioned cffunction and runs a cfquery. A query based on the previously given example would be... select locationid, locationname, locationaliasname from vwLocationsWithAlias where LocationName in ('the','the republic','the republic of','republic','republic of','republic of boulder','of','of boulder','boulder') or LocationAliasName in ('the','the republic','the republic of','republic','republic of','republic of boulder','of','of boulder','boulder') This returns 2 records... locationid - locationname - locationalias 99 - 'Boulder' - 'the republic' 68 - 'Boulder' - NULL This is good. Works fine and dandy. HOWEVER... if the string is changed to "the republic", resulting in the phrases array ["the","republic","the republic"] which is then used to produce the query... select locationid, locationname, locationaliasname from vwLocationsWithAlias where LocationName in ('the','the republic','republic') or LocationAliasName in ('the','the republic','republic') This returns 0 records. Say what?! OK, just to make sure I'm not involuntarily HIGH I run that very same query in my SQL console against the same database in the cf datasource. 1 RECORD! locationid - locationname - locationalias 99 - 'Boulder' - 'the republic' I can even hard-code that sql within the same cffunction and get that one result, but never from the dynamically generated SQL. I can get my location phrases from another cffunction of a different name that returns hard-coded array values and those work, but never if the array is dynamically built. I've tried removing cfqueryparams, triple-checking my datatypes, datasource setups, etc., etc., etc. NO DICE WTF!? Is this an obscure bug? Am I losing my mind? I've tried everything I can think of and others (including Ray Camden) can think of. ColdFusion 8 (with all the latest hotfixes) SQL Server 2005 (with all the greatest service packs) Windows 2003 Server (with all the latest updates, service packs and nightly MS voodoo)

• JDBC CommunicationsException with MySQL Database

  I'm having a little trouble with my MySQL- Connection- Pooling. This is the case: Different jobs are scheduled via Quartz. All jobs connect to different databases which works fine the whole day while the nightly scheduled jobs fail with a CommunicationsException... Quartz-Jobs: Job1 runs 0 0 6,10,14,18 * * ? Job2 runs 0 30 10,18 * * ? Job3 runs 0 0 5 * * ? As you can see the last job runs at 18 taking about 1 hour to run. The first job at 5am is the one that fails. The most annoying thing is: The first job that runs first queries Database2 successfully but fails to query Database1 for some reason (CommunicationsException): Caused by: com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.CommunicationsException: The last packet successfully received from the server was 39,376,539 milliseconds ago. You should consider either expiring and/or testing connection validity before use in your application, increasing the server configured values for client timeouts, or using the Connector/J connection property 'autoReconnect=true' to avoid this problem. • Drupal's profile_save_profile Doesn't Work in hook_cron, When Run by the Server's cron

  I have a problem with the following implementation of hook_cron in Drupal 6.1.3. The script below runs exactly as expected: it sends a welcome letter to new members, and updates a hidden field in their profile to designate that the letter has been sent. There are no errors in the letter, all new members are accounted for, etc. The problem is that the last line -- updating the profile -- doesn't seem to work when Drupal cron is invoked by the 'real' cron on the server. When I run cron manually (such as via /admin/reports/status/run-cron) the profile fields get updated as expected. Any suggestions as to what might be causing this?
