  • Enabling PostgreSQL support in PHP on Mac OS X

    I'm having a terribly difficult time getting the command "pg_connect()" to work properly on my Mac. I'm currently writing a PHP script (to be executed from console) to read a PostgreSQL database and email a report. I've gone into my php.ini file and added extension=pgsql.so But, I'm met with the following error. PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/php_pgsql.so' - dlopen(/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/php_pgsql.so, 9): image not found in Unknown on line 0 PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function pg_connect() in... (blah file here) When running phpinfo(), I see nothing about PostgreSQL, so what is my issue here?

  • java "File not found" when using commons-configuration XMLConfiguration with Tomcat

    Hi all, I'm building two apps that uses commons-configuration XMLConfiguration. Since the apps are related, I've build another project, called commons, that has a custom configuration manager that initializes the XMLConfiguration like so: config = new XMLConfiguration("conf/config.xml"); What happens is that the "command-line" app works fine, loading the configuration file. But when I try to use my custom configuration manager on a webapp (using tomcat) I get a "org.apache.commons.configuration.ConfigurationException: Cannot locate configuration source". I've placed the conf directory on the WEB-INF folder, the root folder and the META-INF folder. I've also tried with "/conf/config.xml", "./conf/config.xml" and "../conf/config.xml". The only time I got this to work - on the web app - was using a absolute path. What am I missing? Thanks, Bruno

  • How to log with Ruby and eventmachine?

    I'm writing an application using Ruby and the Eventmachine library. I really like the idea of non blocking I/O and event driven systems, the problem I'm running into is logging. I'm using Ruby's standard logger library. Its not that logging takes forever but it seems like something that shouldn't block and it does. Is there a library out there somewhere that extends Ruby's standard logger implementation to be non-blocking or should I just call EM::defer for my logging calls? Is there a way I can make eventmachine do this for me already?

  • Volunteer for a potential employer?

    I've been looking for work since March, and haven't had much luck. Recently, however, I interviewed with a small company near my home for a C#, .NET, SQL development position. I hit it off very well with the hiring manager during the phone screen, and even more so during the face to face. Unfortunately, I failed the practical test: wiring up a web form, creating a couple of SQL stored procedures, saving new data with validation, and creating a minimal search screen. I knew what I was doing, but I was too slow to meet their standards as all the work needed to be done within an hour. Nevertheless, I really liked the place, the environment, the people who I would have been working with, and the boss. (I gave the company an 11 on Joel's 12 point scale.) So, the obvious next step was to scrape the rust off. I've been trying to create little projects for myself, but I don't know that I've been effective in getting any faster. What with all that goes into creating a project, I'm not heads-down coding as much as I think I need. Now, with all that introduction, here's the question. I have been thinking about calling the hiring manager at that place, and asking him to let me volunteer for three or four weeks, with no strings attached. I think it would benefit me, and wouldn't cost him anything (as long as I didn't slow the existing people down!). At the end of that period, he might, or might not, be inclined to hire me, but even if not, I would have had as much as 160 hours of in the trenches development. Maybe not all shiny, but no more rust, I would think. Does this plan make any sense at all? I certainly don't want to sound desperate (although, I'm not far from being there), and I very much need the tuneup, lube, and change the oil. What's the downside, if any, to me doing this? Do any of you see red flags going up—either from the prerspective of the hiring manager, or from the perspective of a developer?

  • .net Value Class sorting with IComparable

    I'm running into an issue using a DataGridView bound to a iBindingListView implementation (third party dll) attached to a large collection. There's a certain property in my collection type, named MyDateTime, which is a value class similar to DateTime, but also with some legacy code. This VALUE CLASS implements iComparable, iComparable<T>, and iEquatable<T>. The issue I'm having is this: When I apply a sort to the iBindingListView, or the Automatic Sorting provided by the DGV on the MyDateTimeColumn, it ALWAYS uses the non-generic iComparer, causing hundreds of thousands of unnecessary boxing and unboxing. When I remove the non-generic iComparer, the generic one is still not used, it just does a string compare on the .ToString(). Am I missing something? Why is my generic comparer not bieng called on a sort?

    Hi, I have a FTP connection manager in SSIS. I have configured it with serevr IP, port number, user name, and password. It was working fine. But suddenly its stopped working. But i am able to login directly to the FTP web site directly .It was not working temporarily.But now its working with same login credentials. But my FTP connection manager in SSIS is unable to connect to the server. with following Error message "connection cannot be established.server name ,port number ,credentials may be invalid" What could be the reason? I have checked servername,port and login credentials all are same. Note: This is a ssl ftp website(https://xxx.xx.xx.com/) Some one please look into this isssue and provide a solution. Thanks SNA

  • typeid , dynamic casting (upcast) and templates

    Hello, I have few questions regarding dynamic casting , typeid() and templates 1) How come typeid does not require RTTI ? 2) dynamic_cast on polymorphic type: When I do downcast (Base to Derive) with RTTI - compilation passes When RTTI is off - I get a warning (warning C4541: 'dynamic_cast' used on polymorphic type 'CBase' with /GR-; unpredictable behavior may result) When I do upcast (Derive to Base), with or without RTTI - compilation passes smoothly What I don't understand is why when I do upcast and RTTI is off - I don't get any warning/error! 3) dynamic_cast on NON polymorphic type: When I do downcast with or without RTTI - compilation fails (error C2683: 'dynamic_cast' : 'CBase' is not a polymorphic type) BUT When I do upcast with or without RTTI - compilation passes smoothly. How come on upcast on NON polymorphic type passes w/o RTTI ? 4) Does 'inline' in front of a template function has any effect, i.e. when the compiler compiles the function and see it is 'inline' it will actually treat the function as inline or it is ignored?   • Cannot change the target CPU to x86 Or x64 in Visual Studio 2005

    I am trying to build a website application and specify the target CPU as x86 instead of Any CPU. The only choices I have in Configuration Manager under the "Active solution platform:" drop-down list are: "Any CPU", "Edit..", and "New...". In the "Project Contexts" portion of the "Configuration Manager" window, it lists 3 columns: "Project", "Configuration" and "Platform". Under the "Platform" column, my only choice is ".Net". when the "Active solution configuration" is set to, "Debug". When the, ""Active solution configuration" is set to "Release", then I can choose either, ".Net" or "Any CPU" under the "Platform" column. I am using Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition. This website was previously built using Visual Studio .NET and was recently upgraded using the Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition Upgrade Wizard. I need to target x86 specifically because the are components used in the project that are only x86 compatible.

    Hi, I'm surprised this question hasn't come up. Couldn't find much on the web. Using Entry.objects.latest('created_at') I can recover the latest entry for all Entry objects, but say if I want the latest entry for each user? This is something similar to an SQL latest record query. But how do I achieve this using the ORM? Here is my approach I'm wondering if it is the most efficient way to do what I want. First I perform a sub query: Objects are grouped by user and the Max (latest) created_by field is returned for each user (created_at__max) I then filter Entry objects based on the results in the subquery and get the required objects. Entry.objects.filter(created_at__in=Entry.objects.values('user').annotate(Max('created_at')).values_list('created_at__max')) or using a manager: class UsersLatest(models.Manager): def get_query_set(self): return Super(UsersLatest,self).get_query_set().filter(created_at__in=self.model.objects.values('user').annotate(Max('created_at')).values_list('created_at__max')) Is there a more efficient way? possibly without sub query?   • Setup Project is not correctly registering assembly in GAC

    I have created a custom Rewrite Provider for IIS 7 following instructions in this article: Developing a Custom Rewrite Provider for URL Rewrite Module To simplify deployment, I have created a VS2010 Setup Project and configured it to deploy my assembly to GAC. When I run the installer, it completes successfully, and appears to be registered the assembly in GAC (I have verified using gacutil.exe /l). However, when I go to IIS Manager to register the new rewrite provider it is not displayed in the list of available providers. I have also tried to install the assembly manually using gacutil.exe /if. This does work and makes assembly visible in the list of available providers in IIS Manager. Am I missing some sort of configuration in my Setup Project?

I know Delphi has a big community since years (10 plus)and I believe you could create native windows exe before Visual Basic got to speed (with all its dll's nighmare). But is it future-proof ? Is there a need or market for a non-crossplatform native all-in-one executable ? Will Embarcardero ex Codegear ex Borland continue to push it ? Why is it so expensive ? Who (non company) can afford it, in order to learn it ?

    The question on validating jpegs on network transfer is very helpful. Could we take this question one step further? What if the image data is incomplete or corrupt from the server? The complete transport works, the MIME type is image/jpeg, the UIImage is constructed and non-nil but the renderer discovers inconsistencies in the data and the log shows "Bad Huffman code" or "premature end of data segment" How would I capture this error before tossing the UIImage into the view context and thereby getting a not-pretty image on the screen? Could I render it to a non-screen context and capture the error?

    ...what options are there now with .NET 4.0, in a way that does support NAT for the client side (i.e. client behind NAT). I would prefer to use something HTTP based, but that is a weak condition - I think mid term I will have some non http communication outside WCF anyway, so proxy traversal is something I could delay. Pre .NET 4.0 there was the issue that basically the server-client channel would be opened from the server, which made NAT something non-traversable. Polling is not acceptable - we talk time sensitive information here. So, what are my options now?

Additionally, any of these numbers (and any preceding .) may be missing. So the following are valid and parse as: 1.23.456 = version 1, release 23, modification 456 1.23 = version 1, release 23, any modification 1.23.* = version 1, release 23, any modification 1.* = version 1, any release, any modification 1 = version 1, any release, any modification * = any version, any release, any modification But these are not valid: *.12 *123.1 12* 12.*.34 Can anyone provide me a not-too-complex regex to validate and retrieve the release, version and modification numbers?     I'm interested in trying out distributed version control systems. git sounds promising, but I saw a note somewhere for the Windows port of git that says "don't use non-ASCII filenames". I can't find that now, but there is this link. It's put me off git for now, but I don't know if the other options are any better. Support for non-ASCII filenames is essential for my Japanese company. I'm looking for one that internally stores filenames as Unicode, not a platform-dependent encoding which would cause endless grief. So: What DVCS support Unicode filenames? In both Windows and Linux? Ideally, with the possibility to transfer repositories between Windows and Linux machines with minimal issues?

  • Entering and retrieving data from SQLite for an android List View

    Hi all, I started learning android development a few weeks ago and have gone through the developer.android.com tutorials etc. But now I have a problem. I'm trying to create an app which tracks the usage of each installed app. Therefore I'm pulling the names of all installed apps using the PackageManager and then trying to put them into an SQLite database table. I am using the Notepad Tutorial SQLite implementation but I'm running into some problems that I have tried for days to solve. I have 2 classes, the DBHelper class and the actual ListActivity class. For some reason the app force closes when I try and run my fillDatabase() function which gets all the app names from the PackageManager and tries to put them into the database: private void fillDatabase() { PackageManager manager = this.getPackageManager(); List<ApplicationInfo> appList = manager.getInstalledApplications(0); for(int i = 0; i < appList.size(); i++) { mDbHelper.addApp(manager.getApplicationLabel(appList.get(i)).toString(), 0); } } addApp() is a function defined in my AppsDbHelper class and looks as follows: public long createApp(String name, int usage) { ContentValues initialValues = new ContentValues(); initialValues.put(KEY_NAME, name); initialValues.put(KEY_USAGE, usage); return mDb.insert(DATABASE_TABLE, null, initialValues); } The database create is defined as follows: private static final String DATABASE_CREATE = "create table notes (_id integer primary key autoincrement, " + "title text not null, usage integer not null);"; I have commented out all statements that follow fillDatabase(); in the onCreate() method of the ListActivity and so know that it is definetely the problem but I don't know why. I am taking the appName and putting it into the KEY_NAME field of the row and putting 0 into the KEY_USAGE field of the row (because initially, my app will default the usage of each app to 0 (not used yet)). If my addApp() function doesn't take the usage and just puts KEY_NAME into the ContentValues and into the database, it seems to work fine, but I want a column for usage.   • System.Diaganostics.Process.Id Isn't the Same Process Id Shown in Task Manger. Why?

    I'm using c#'s System.Diagnostic.Process object. One of its properties is Id. The Id this produces is not the same as the PID, shown in Windows Task Manager. Why is this? You see, once this process is started. It launches two other unmanaged processes, for which I can't explicitly get IDs for by object property references. I have to search through all processes to find them by process name via System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcesses(). I'm trying to find a reliable way to kill this process and all associated processes by PID, the one that shows in Task Manager. Is there a better way? I can't just kill all processes with the associated process names, because that might kill other instances of those processes that have nothing to do with my program.

  • ListView adapter data change without ListView being notified

    I've written a ListActivity that has a custom list adapter. The list is being updated from a ContentProvider when onCreate is run. I also have a service that gets started when I run the app and it first updates the ContentProvider, then sends a Broadcast that the content has been updated. My ListActivity recieves the broadcast and tries to update my ListView. My problem is, I'm getting intermittent errors about the ListView adapter data changing without the ListView being notified. I call the notifyDataSetChanged() method on my list adapter right after I update it. What it seems like is happening is the list is still in the process of being updated after first call in onCreate when it recieves the broadcast from the service to update, so it tries to update my ListView before it's finished updating from it's first run. Does this make sense? Here is some of my code.     I'd like to create a lot of extension methods for some generic class, e.g. for public class SimpleLinkedList<T> where T:IComparable And I've started creating methods like this: public static class LinkedListExtensions { public static T[] ToArray<T>(this SimpleLinkedList<T> simpleLinkedList) where T:IComparable { //// code } } But when I tried to make LinkedListExtensions class generic like this: public static class LinkedListExtensions<T> where T:IComparable { public static T[] ToArray(this SimpleLinkedList<T> simpleLinkedList) { ////code } } I get "Extension methods can only be declared in non-generic, non-nested static class". And I'm trying to guess where this restriction came from and have no ideas.

    Reading a Book, i came across this code... # module person.py class Person: def __init__(self, name, job=None, pay=0): self.name = name self.job = job self.pay = pay def lastName(self): return self.name.split()[-1] def giveRaise(self, percent): self.pay = int(self.pay *(1 + percent)) def __str__(self): return "[Person: %s, %s]" % (self.name,self.pay) class Manager(): def __init__(self, name, pay): self.person = Person(name, "mgr", pay) def giveRaise(self, percent, bonus=.10): self.person.giveRaise(percent + bonus) def __getattr__(self, attr): return getattr(self.person, attr) def __str__(self): return str(self.person) It does what I want it to do, but i do not understand the __getattr__ function in the Manager class. I know that it Delegates all other attributes from Person class. but I do not understand the way it works. for example why from Person class? as I do not explicitly tell it to. person(module is different than Person(class) Any help is highly appreciated :)
