• Add own search parameter in jqGrid in Asp.net mvc

  I have just started working on asp.net mvc and jqgrid. I have a calendar which returns a date, a multiselect list box and apply filter button outside of the grid.   Is it valid to declare @OneToOne and @NotNull on both sides of a relationship, such as: class ChangeEntry { @OneToOne(cascade=CascadeType.ALL) @NotNull ChangeEntryDetails changeEntryDetails; } class ChangeEntryDetails { @OneToOne(cascase=CascadeType.ALL) @NotNull ChangeEntry changeEntry; } I can't find anything that says this is invalid, but it seems that during persistence at least one side of the relationship must be violated. (Eg., if writing changeEntry first, changeEntryDetails will be null temporarily). When trying this, I see an exception thrown not-null property references a null or transient value. I'd like to avoid relaxing the constraint if possible, because both sides must be present.

• How can I stop my "headerSticky" and "content" divs from overlapping?

  I'm making a page that has three main components: a "headerSticky" header div, "sidenav" left navigation div, and "content" div. The side navigation is fixed and does not move; but the content div should be scrollable on its own. However, the top of the content div is always overlapped by the header div. Here is the CSS for the header: #headerSticky{ float:top; position:fixed; padding:6px; width: 100%;} and the content div: #content { padding-top: 100px; float:right; overflow: auto; height: 90%; width: 840px; padding: 0 20px 20px;} Any help would be appreciated.   I have recently noticed that a lot of JavaScript files on the web starts with ; immediately following the comment section. • Prevent bot from crawling certain areas of site.

  Hey, I don't know much about SEO and how web spiders work, so forgive my ignorance here. I'm creating a site (using ASP.NET-MVC) which has areas that displays information retrieved from the database. The data is unique to the user, so there's no real server-side output caching going on. However, since the data can contain things the user may not wish to have displayed from search engine results, I'd like to prevent any spiders from accessing the search results page. Are there any special actions I should take to ensure that the search result directory isn't crawled? Also, would a spider even crawl a page that's dynamically generated and would any actions preventing certain directories being search mess up my search engine rankings? edit: I should add, I'm reading up on robots.txt protocol, but it relies on co-operation from the web crawler. However, I'd also like to prevent any data-mining users who will ignore the robots.txt file. I appreciate any help!

• CSS vertical centering split background image not overlapping

• only update certain model attributes using Backbone.js

  With Backbone, I'm trying to update and save to the server just one attribute: currentUser.save({hide_explorer_tutorial: 'true'}); but I don't want to send all the other attributes. Some of them are actually the output of methods on the server-side and so they are not actually true attributes with setter functions. Currently I'm using unset(attribute_name) to remove all the attributes that I don't want to update on the server. Problem is those attributes are then no longer available for local use. Suggestions on how to only save certain attributes to the server?

• High density Silverlight charting control

  I've been looking into Silverlight charting controls to display a large number of samples, (~10,000 data points in five separate series - ~50k points all up). I have found the existing options produced by Dundas, Visifire, Microsoft etc to be extremely poor performers when displaying more than a few hundred data points. I believe the performance issues with existing chart controls is caused by the heavy use of vector graphics. Ergo one solution would be a client-side chart control that uses the WritableBitmap class to generate a raster chart. Before I fall too far down the wheel re-invention rabbit hole - has anyone found a third party or OSS control that will manage large numbers of data points on a sparkline?

• Why wouldn't a flex remoteobject work within a custom component?

  Please enlighten this flex noob. I have a remoteobject within my main.mxml. I can call a function on the service from an init() function on my main.mxml, and my java debugger triggers a breakpoint. When I move the remoteobject declaration and function call into a custom component (that is declared within main.mxml), the remote function on java-side no longer gets called, no breakpoints triggered, no errors, silence. How could this be? No spelling errors, or anything like that. mxml code: &ltmx:RemoteObject id="myService" destination="remoteService" endpoint="$(Application.application.home}/messagebroker/amf" &gt &lt/mx:RemoteObject%gt function call is just 'myService.getlist();' when I move it to a custom component, I import mx.core.Application; so the compiler doesn't yell

• How to access SharePoint files and folders from outside SharePoint?

  I need to programatically interface with SharePoint folders, files and lists from outside SharePoint. Most tutorials focus on working within SharePoint itself, or at least on the same server where SharePoint is installed. I need to automate some tasks from completely different servers -- tasks that require reading SharePoint lists, browsing folders, checking files out and in, reading files stored in SharePoint libraries, etc. It used to be easy using UNC folder and file paths. Now many of our SharePoint sites don't allow UNC access (probably for good reasons), but my needs are the same. What languages / libraries / interfaces will allow this? I'd like to be able to do this from server-side .NET code and from PowerShell scripts (not on the SharePoint server). Thanks for any pointers.

  Hi, My project is running fine, but its requirement for some DLLs means it cannot be simply dragged and dropped by the end user. The DLLs are not loaded when put side by side with my executable, because my executable is not an application, and its location is not in the few locations where Windows looks for DLL. I already asked a question about how to make their loading happen. None of the suggestions worked (see the question at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2637499/how-can-a-win32-app-plugin-load-its-dll-in-its-own-directory) So I am now exploring another way: get rid of the DLLs altogether, and link with static versions of them. This is failing for the last of those DLLs. So I am at this point where all but one of the libraries are statically linked, and everything is fine. The last library is the standard C library for mySQL, aka Connector/C. The problem I have may or may not be related with that origin. Whenever I switched to the static library in the linker additional dependency, I get the following errors (log at the end): 1- about 40 duplicate symbols (e.g. _toupper) mutually between LIBCMT.lib and MSVCRT.lib. Interestingly, I can't control the inclusion of these two libraries: they are from Visual Studio and automatically included. So why are these symbol duplicate when I include mySQL's static lib, but not its DLL? • What is considered a long execution time?

  I am trying to figure out just how "efficient" my server-side code is. Using start and end microtime(true) values, I am able to calculate the time it took my script to run. I am getting times from .3 - .5 seconds. These scripts do a number of database queries to return different values to the user. What is considered an efficient execution time for PHP scripts that will be run online for a website? Note: I know it depends on exactly what is being done, but just consider this a standard script that reads from a database and returns values to the user. Also, I look at Google and see them search the internet in .15 seconds and I feel like my script is crap. Thanks.

• Why does Google's Closure Compiler leave a few unnecessary spaces or line breaks?

  I've noticed that every time I use Google's Closure Compiler Service, it leaves a few unnecessary spaces in the compiled code presented on the right-hand side of the page. These correspond to line breaks in the hosted version of the compiled code. For example (note the line breaks, each of which seems unnecessary): http://troy.onespot.com/static/stack_overflow/closure_spaces.js To date, I've just been removing them manually, but I'm curious why they're there. Is it to limit the line length of the hosted version of the code to make it more readable? Could the compiler be smart enough to leave or insert those intentionally to maximize GZIP compression efforts? I know that they have a trivial effect on the file size, but with so much effort going into minifying every last byte in the source script, it's counterintuitive why they're there.

• Why can you reference an imported module using the importing module in python

  I am trying to understand why any import can be referenced using the importing module, e.g #module master.py import slave and then >>>import master >>>print master.slave gives <module 'slave' from 'C:\Documents and Settings....'> What is the purpose of the feature? I can see how it can be helpful in a package's __init__.py file, but nothing else. Is it a side effect of the fact that every import is added to the module's namespace and that the module's namespace is visible from the outside? If so, why didn't they make an exception with data imported from other modules (e.g don't show it as part of the module's namespace for other modules)?

Alas I've discovered that within calculateField1() field2 and field3 have the values of the instance from before I edited them in admin. If I enter the instance again in admin and save again, only then field1 receives the correct value as field2 and field3 are already updated. Is this the correct behavior on django's side? If yes, then how can I use the new values within calculateField1? I cannot implement the calculation within the save() as calculateField1() actually quite long and I need it to be called from elsewhere.
