  I'm getting this error when I call a web service: "The remote server returned an error: (407) Proxy Authentication Required". I get the general idea and I can get the code to work by adding myProxy.Credentials= NetworkCredential("user", "password", "domain"); or by using DefaultCredentials in code. My problem is that the call to the web service works in production without this. It seems like there is a non code solution involving Machine.config, but what is it? At the moment I can't get to the production boxes machine.config file to see what that looks like. I tried updating my machine.config as follows, but I still get the 407 error.

• Setting Up TFS Server outside of a domain

  Hi Im trying to set up TFS 2010 on a machine that is connected to a network, but not on the domain. I am trying to connect this to a SQL Server that is also connected to the network and also not on the domain. When I run through the TFS configuration Wizard and try to connect to the SQL Server, it fails with a message "A connection can not be made...." which looks like it cant see the Server. However when i connect through SQL Management Studio it works when i use SQL Authentication (not Windows Auth). I beleive its failing because TFS needs to connect using Windows Authetication (please correct me if im wrong). I can not add the Windows Authentication for my TFS machine onto the SQL machine becuase they are on different domains (again, pleas correct me if I'm wrong). Does anyone have any suggestions?   I want to debug on the customer's machine (Windows Server 2003) to track a problem, and out product is based on .NET 2.0. I want to use DbgCLR.exe to debug a file AAA.dll, what I did is: install .NET 2.0 SDK on the customer's machine (to get the DbgCLR.exe) copy the symbol file AAA.pdb to the same directory with AAA.dll get the source file for AAA.dll the AAA.dll will be loaded by w3wp.exe, so in the DbgCLR Tools-Attach to Process, then I choose w3wp.exe File-Open-File open the source file and add a breakpoint in the function which will be callled but the breakpoint seems do no work because there is an warning icon on it and says : the breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document. On my computer (Windows XP) which has the debug version of whole source code, I did nearly the same thing as above but the different is: I attached aspnet_wp.exe to do the debug and it works What should I do to let it work on the customer's machine?

I have javascript function in my aspx page that i call on the onclick event.but on one particular machine it always automatically called on body onload in infinite loop. Though I already remove all the caching and delte the history and temp files. This seems very strange to me .It works fine on all the machine excpt one. The machine have windows 7 and IE verison 8.0.7600.16385 Can some one please help me. Thanks in advance.

• Differing form size between XP and 7

  I am developing a C# WinForms app on my XP dev machine with Visual C# Express 2008. I set the form to have a size of my liking with Width and Height on the designer and all looks good. I also set these dimensions to the MaximumSize property. Deploying the app to another XP machine, and the app looks like it does on my dev. However, in testing the app on a Win7 machine, the form has both horizontal and vertical scrollbars applied. I assume that this is due to the changed non-client size of the form, as determined by Win7. I can resize the window, but I would like it to be displayed correctly to begin with. So, my question is: What is the best way to correctly maintain a form size client area across OS'es? Thanks all.

  Hey all, I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 and trying to run a Java program I wrote whose source code is located on a remote machine. I'm using ssh to connect using the following command from the terminal: ssh -X username@hostname When running the program, one of the GUI frames has its buttons missing from view, but they are clickable and work as expected when I can guess accurately where they are. Running the code from my local machine they are present, and running from another windows machine using X-Windows they are present. Been trying to solve this problem for a few hours now but to no avail. Anyone have any helpful insight how to resolve this issue? Thanks!

• Socket left in TIME_WAIT after file transfer via netcat

  Using Copying by NetCat I am trying to copy files throught network by NetCat. From console it work pretty well. First I run listening netcat on the destination machine and after I run sending on source machine. The problem is it's doen't work from script from the source machine: ssh -f user@$desthost 'nc -l 1234 | tar xvf - /dev/null &' #listening on destination host tar cv /tmp/file | nc $desthost 1234 #sending to destination host I saw that after running port 1234 is still was open and status of the socket was TIME_WAIT. If you know what's the problem, please, help me out. And by the way, after copying how can I validate that the content is identical? Thanks! Addendum: I found one very strange thing, the same implementation with screen on destination work works, but not stable, sometimes it doesn't copy a file. ssh user@$desthost screen -dm -S test 'nc -l 1234 | tar xvf - ' #listening on destination host Maybe there is an issue with timeout?

  A webapp has as a central component a relatively heavy algorithm that handles geometric operations. There are 2 solutions to make the whole thing accessible from both high-end machines and relatively slower mobile devices. I will use RPC's if i detect that the user machine is ''slow'' or else if i detect that the user machine can handle it OK, then i provide to the webapp the script to handle it client side. Now what would be a reliable way to detect the speed of the user machine? I was thinking of providing a sample script as a test when the page loads and detect the time it took to execute that. Any ideas?

• Where does MSBuild store it's options, and how can I change them?

  We have a large project at work, under source control, including an MSBuild file to run the build. Recently, the build has stopped working on my machine (I get errors saying that 'zzz' is ambiguous in the namespace 'yyy'). The same MSBuild file is working fine on both the build server and my co-workers machines. I have tried cloning a new copy of the project from the shared repository, but even with a clean copy, the build is failing for me. I think it must be a problem with the MSBuild settings on my machine, but I haven't been able to find anything that tells me where they are. Any help would be appreciated, since I'm starting to think my machine has just gone crazy.

• C# app that uses Excel Interop, easy switch between 2003 2007?

  I have an app written that just does really basic I/O on a spreadsheet. Read in a bunch of cells, do some sorting, and dump the output back into another spreadsheet. Works great on my machine. I have Office 2003 installed. When it runs on someone elses machine with 2007, it bombs, presumably due to the different versions of the Interop assemblies. I was hoping someone knew a way to dynamically change which/where the assembly is loaded from depending on the office version (getting the office version is easy from the registry). Sifting thru the rest of the internet, i didnt see anything to indicate that was possible :( . I tried installing the 2007 PIAs, but when i try to add a reference, they dont show up and i have no idea where to browse for them (they arent in the c:\windows\assemblies\; maybe the install didnt work). Am I going to have to get a machine with 2007 installed to build on every time i need to make updates?

  I am trying to deploy my ASP.NET Application which is currently running on Windows Server 2003 32bit and IIS6 to a new Server running Windows Server 2008 R2 and IIS7. My application uses ASP.NET version 4.0 and is working fine on 2003 machine. My problem is: I have deployed the application and it is working fine except that the .flv video is not playing in browser I have added all required mime settings but still no luck when i try to run the video i don't get any error just a blank screen showing no video. Same configuration is working on previous machine and the new server is also able to play the video when run from the earlier machine. Please if you have any solution help me out.

• SQL server connection trouble in network but not in local

  for the first time that I would work with SQL SERVER 2005, the jdbc connection doesn't work in the network I searched and have done thousand of things that doesn't work, i also want to precise that i already had worked with other DBMS, so here is the problem: when i try to connect by jdbc from the machine where sql server is installed everything work just fine, but when i try from a different machine, the jdbc is unable to create the connection, i already checked that TCP/IP communication is enabled that the port (not dynamically assigned) is 1433 and i even tried with different ports, i also tried with the same driver and different driver, i checked that i was able to communicate with the http server (who is installed in the machine where SQL server is installed) and it works but that jdbc connection can't, i tried thousand of things until i forgot some of them, someone please help

  Hi all, I have two machines - A (XP SP2) and B (Win7). Machine B has trouble playing OGM files - enabling subtitles causes a crash in the player. Investigation shows that the DirectShow graphs are quite different. On A, the source is a file source, which produces a stream of subtype OGG, which goes into "Ogg Splitter". On B, the source is an instance of Haali Media Splitter, which produces video, audio, and subtitles as separate streams. Machine A has Haali splitter installed as well, but it is not invoked somehow. Question - what determines the source filter? Is there a file type to preferred source mapping, or does the system load and ask all suitable filters if they would take this file? On machine A, the merit of Haali splitter is higher than that of File source, so it's probably not about relative merits.

  Hi, I am using SVN and have a repository on a remote machine. Sometimes, when working on my local machine I realize that I need to add some new files to the repo. The usual procedure I know would then be: 1- at the current folder on my local machine checkout the whole SVN repo 2- enter there 3- copy the interesting file here 4- commit But this can be a bit tedious. I wonder if somehow, I can omit steps 1 to 3 and import the "interesting" file to SVN directly without necessity of checking out the repo first. Thanks

• Mac OS X 10.5 App "not supported on this architecture" cured by copying?

  I have an app that updates itself over the internet, and the updated copy won't run on PowerPC machines (G5) running Leopard (10.5.8). Double-clicking the app produces a message saying "You can't open the application "appname" because it is not supported on this architecture." But here's the weird part: if I duplicate the app using the Finder or using a cp -R command, then the duplicate runs fine! And yet, if I do ls -laeR on both apps, the results are identical. I restarted the machine, and the difference between the two copies was still there. Sometimes, renaming the app made it run. After a few tries, I managed to rename it back to the original name and still have it run. If this was just on one machine, I'd dismiss it as disk corruption, cosmic rays, or a voodoo hex, but it was reported by a customer and then I reproduced it on my own machine. Any ideas what could cause this behavior?

• Can ASP.NET be configured to run as an administrator when UAC is enabled?

  I can't seem to find any information that indicates whether ASP.NET can be configured (through web.config or maybe machine.config) to run as a real administrator on a machine with UAC enabled. By this I mean, even if you set it to impersonate an Administrator account, UAC will disable that account's ability to act as an Administrator by returning a token set that hides the administrator role. For any checks such as IsInRole, the running account is effectively not an administrator at all. So ... Let's say I want to ignore all good advice and just go ahead and run a web app on Vista with administrator permissions. Is it even possible? Alternatives welcome. (Core reason for needing administrator privileges: to stop or start services that are running on that machine.)

  I am trying to install an application and a group of services using PSTools, but I want to take into account that the computer I am trying to connect to may be turned off or on a different network, which is not reachable from the internal network. Basically if the machine is not able to be accessed through the admin share, this is the message that I am getting: Couldn't access MachineName: The network path was not found. Make sure that the default admin$ share is enabled on MachineName.   Hi all I am writing a program which is targeted to run on .net framework 2.0. I have chosen 2.0 in my VS project. It runs fine on my machine (mine has 2.0 SP2), so there is no compile error. but when I tried to run it on another machine (only with 2.0, no sp), it cannot run. I am aware that I used some method which is supported by 2.0 but only with 2.0 SP2. .net framework 2.0 SP2 seems not being listed in VS IDE, that's why VS cannot give me any warning when I compiled it on my machine. How can I easily check the compatibility of my codes with .net framework 2.0 SP2? or I just have to look at msdn to check every method I have used??? thanks

• Getting error "Activex Component cannot create Object" while using .NET dll in VB 6 Code

  HI, I am deploying a VB6 application on client machine. The Application need to access code from a C#.NET dll. I created a COM object of the .NET dll and used it VB 6 using the side by side versioning (Registration free COM). It is running fine on the development machine but on the client machine it is throwing an error "ActiveX Component cannot create Object" I created two manifest files one for the VB application and the other one for the C# application. I embedded the C# manifest file in the C#.NET dll through visual studio 2008. Am I missing some step. Please help me out. Thanks in advance.

  Hi, So i just started trying to develop a simple webpart today for a sharepoint foundation i put on a virtual machine. I have no previous experience with sharepoint whatsoever. I created the simple test web part (writes out "hi"), uploaded it to virtual machine, added it with add-spsolution and install-spsolution in powershell with success. When i do get-solution through powershell on my webpart it says deployed = true. What am i missing from here to get it to actually show up somewhere in the web interface so i can add it to a page? It is strongly advised you run some memory check program eg MEMTEST in GRUB boot manager. Running md5sum repeatedly onto the very same big file must be consistent [same result], else a hardware memory problem is suspected. For Virtual Box, you should most likely enable VT-X (Vanderpool) hardware virtualization in BIOS. A free disk space of 80 GB is required to perform safely the VBox image installation. A Virtual Machine of minimum 6 to 7 GB memory fits the needs of combining OBIEE and Essbase execution.

• Converting an Oracle VM VirtualBox VM into an Oracle VM Server image

  As we are working on tighter seemless moving of VM's between the 2 products, here are a few simple steps to convert an existing Oracle VM VirtualBox image over. Steps involved to make it easy/straightforward : (1) When creating a VM in Virtualbox, using Oracle Linux as an example, make sure that /etc/fstab only uses labels. Do not use hardcoded device names. instead of an entry /dev/sda1 /u01 ext3 defaults 1 1 use LABEL=foo /u01 ext3 defaults 1 1 for more info on labels : man e2label or use a logical volume /dev/VolGroup00/LVfoo /u01 ext3 defaults 1 1 Doing so will make it easier to have an OS boot up on a different hypervisor with potentially different device names. For instance, the VirtualBox VM might expose a scsi driver while in Oracle VM Server you might end up with an ide disk, this then changes /dev/sda to /dev/hda. (2) If you have a VM created that you want to convert, then shut down the VM in VirtualBox and convert the image files : go the the directory that contains your HardDisk image files (.VirtualBox/HardDisks/* as an example) for each of the virtual disks run the following command : VBoxManage clonehd virtualdiskfilename.vdi system.img --format raw where virtualdiskfilename.vdi is the original VBox VM file (this can also be a vmdk file) and system.img is the name of the virtualdisk for Oracle VM. this can be any filename as well, I typically use system.img to specify the boot disk (as is common for Oracle VM template creation) (3) create a vm.cfg To run a VM converted from VirtualBox, you have to create a vm.cfg for Oracle VM server that creates an HVM guest. The easiest is to use a simple hvm vm.cfg and change it for your vm. I have an example here : acpi = 1 apic = 1 builder = 'hvm' device_model = '/usr/lib/xen/bin/qemu-dm' disk = ['file:system.img,hda,w', 'file:oracle.img,hdb,w',',hdc:cdrom,r',] kernel = '/usr/lib/xen/boot/hvmloader' memory = '1024' name = 'vmname' on_crash = 'restart' on_reboot = 'restart' pae = 1 serial = 'pty' timer_mode = '0' usbdevice = 'tablet' vcpus = 1 vif = ['bridge=xenbr0,type=ioemu'] vif_other_config = [] vnc = 1 vncconsole = 1 vnclisten = '0.0.0.0' vncpasswd = '' vncunused = 1 If you take the above vm.cfg, all you need to do - modify disk = (add your virtual disks in there) - modify memory = (amount of memory your VM needs) - modify name = (enter a name for your VM here) - modify vif = (might want to replace bridge=xenbr0 to the bridge you want to use) if you want more than 1 vcpu or other changes of course you have to make those as well. (4) copy this set of files onto your Oracle VM server or onto a webserver in a subdirectory and import the template through Oracle VM Manager. You can also just start the vm using xm create vm.cfg if you like. And that's it. As I said, we are working on automation around all this but it is relatively trivial to convert VM's over as long as you take the basic issues into account. Primarily the set up of the filesystems and the use of labels in /etc/fstab. There are other potential things to look at, such as network config. If you want to make that part clean then prior to shutting down the VM change /etc/modprobe.conf and/or add the mac address of the VM into the vm.cfg in the vifs line. The good thing, at least with Linux, is that even tho the virtual hardware changes, Linux will deal with it just fine (e1000 vs 8139 realtek, ide vs scsi etc). hope this helps.
