• Firebug error causing code to fail in Sitecore when using IE8 to view the Content Editor

  Hi, I have a Sitecore 6 CMS with a custom data provider to create child items on the fly based on items added to a field in the parent item. This was working okay (about a week ago was the last time I was working on this project), but now I am getting errors in the web client which are originating in the FirebugLite html and JS files. Basically, I click on a content item, the FirebugLite js fails, and then my code in my custom data provider fails to run. I would have thought any FirebugLite scripts would be disabled or ignored when running under IE8 (isn't FirebugLite a Firefox addin?) When I remove the FirebugLite folder from ..\sitecore\shell\Controls\Lib\ my code runs fine and I don't get the clientside errors. I'm not really sure what my question is. I guess it is should FirebugLite affect IE8? What am I missing out on if I remove FirebugLite from the Sitecore directory tree? I'm running WindowsXP SP3, VS2008. With FireFox the src attribute remains "Empty.aspx" when the page is loaded but when i refresh the page i.e. in post back event the scr attribute changes to "page.aspx?id=a.id" and iframe gets loaded properly. Has anyone faced such kind of problem before? and knows the solution please help me, it's killing me big. Thanks in Advance. Maddy.

• Setting processor affinity on CSC.exe launched by CoreCompile MSBuild Task

  I am wondering if there is simple way to ensure that when a c# project is compiled the CSC.exe launched inherits the parent processor affinity settings, or perhaps of a way where by i can supply this. I have been trying to accomplish this by launching a bat file from vs.net cmd prompt like start /affinity 01 custombuild.cmd and inside my custombuild.cmd i have @echo off msbuild Libraries.sln /t:rebuild /p:Configuration=Release;platform=x64 /m:1 :END The command line call to Csc.exe this generates looks like the following C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Csc.exe ... ignoring the rest for brevity. What i 'd like to see is the CSC.exe to inherit the processor affinity or a simple way to be able to override how csc.exe call is generated so i can make it into a start /affinity 01 C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Csc.exe ... ignoring the rest for brevity. I also noticed that CoreCompile target is defined in Microsoft.CSharp.targets, should i be considering overriding MSBuildToolsPath variable so i can sneak in my own version. This feels rather hacky. Any help would be much appreciated.

• How can I visualise a "broken" hierarchical dataset?

  I have a reasonably large datatable structured something like this: StaffNo Grade Direct Boss2 Boss3 Boss4 Boss5 Boss6 ------- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- 10001 1 10002 10002 10057 10094 10043 10099 10002 2 10057 NULL 10057 10094 10043 10099 10003 1 10004 10004 10057 10094 10043 10099 10004 2 10057 NULL 10057 10094 10043 10099 10057 3 10094 NULL NULL 10094 10043 10099 etc.... i.e. a unique id , their level (grade) in the hierarchy, a record of their bosses ID and the IDs of the supervisors above. (The 2,3,4, etc refers to the boss at that particular grade). The system relies on a strict hierarchy - if you are my boss (/parent) then your boss must be my grandparent. Unfortunately this rule is not enforced within the data model and the data ultimately comes from other systems which don't even know about the rule, let alone observe it. So you and I may share the same boss, but our bosses boss won't be the same. note: I cannot change the data model I cannot fix the data at source. So (for the moment) I have to fix the data once it's in place. Once a fortnight someone will do something which breaks the model and I'll need to modify the procs slightly to resolve. Not ideal, but I'm stuck with this for the next six months. Anyway, specific queries are easy to produce but I find it hard to keep track of the bigger picutre. The application which sits on this runs without complaint regardless but navigating around the system becoming extraordinarily confusing. So my question is: Can anyone recommend a tool (or technique) for generating some kind of "broken tree" diagram in this sort of circumstances? I don't want something that will fix things for me, or attempt statistical analysis but at least something that will give a visual indication of how broken it is at any one time. Note : At the moment this is in a SQL Server database but I'm open to ideas utilising C#, Perl or Python.

• Displaying tree path of record in SQL Server 2005

  An example of my tree table is: ([id] is an identity) [id], [parent_id], [path] 1, NULL, 1 2, 1, 1-2 3, 1, 1-3 4, 3, 1-3-4 My goal is to query quickly for multiple rows of this table and view the full path of the node from its root, through its superiors, down to itself. The ultimate question is, should I generate this path on inserts and maintain it in its own column or generate this path on query to save disk space? I guess it depends if this table is write heavy or read heavy. I've been contemplating several approaches to using the "path" characteristic of this parent/child relationship and I just can't seem to settle on one. This "path" is simply for display purposes and serves absolutely no purpose other than that. Here is what I have done to implement this "path." AFTER INSERT TRIGGER - requires passing a NULL path to the insert and updating the path for the record at the inserted rows identity INSTEAD OF INSERT TRIGGER - does not require insert to have NULL path passed, but does require the trigger to insert with a NULL path and updating the path for the record at SCOPE_IDENTITY() STORED PROCEDURE - requiring all inserts into this table to be done through the stored procedure implementing the trigger logic VIEW - requires building the path in the view 1 and 2 seem annoying if massive amounts of data are entered at once. 3 seems annoying because all inserts must go through the procedure in order to have a valid path populated. 1, 2, and 3 require maintaining a path column on the table. 4 removes all the limitations of the above but require the view to perform the path logic and requires use of the view if a path is to be displayed. I have successfully implemented all of the above approaches and I'm mainly looking for some advice. Am I way off the mark here or are any of the above acceptable? Each has it's advantages and disadvantages.

• I need some pointers on how to implement inertia

  Ok, so I've created a little plugin that takes a bunch of elements and creates a sort of never ending list. I'll try to explain... I have a div, and it's got about 20 elements tags in it. When the user scrolls up, the top element moves out of view and is moved to the bottom of the list. And vice-versa so that when the user scrolls down, the bottom element is moved to the top of the list. This is specifically for Mobile Safari (iPad, iPhone) web content and you can see the work in progress here... http://appliedworks.co.uk/files/times/SVGTests/drumView/drum.html You'll need an iPad or iPhone top see the scrolling in action. You can see the plugin code here... http://appliedworks.co.uk/files/times/SVGTests/drumView/drumView-0.1b.js What I would like to do is implement inertia so the scrolling slows to a halt in response to how fast or slow the user is scrolling when their finger leaves the screen. Just like the inertia commonly found in the iPhone / iPad UI. The problem is, every time an element moves to the top or the bottom of the list, the scollTop value for the parent div is adjusted to make it look like all the elements are staying in the same place. Which means the scrollTop value is never more than the top elements total height. So there's no value I can think of that I can keep on manipulating to give the illusion of inertia. I'm stumped. Does anyone have any suggestions?

• Stored Procedure: Variable passed from PHP alters second half of query string

  Hello everyone, Basically, we have an ASP website right now that I'm converting to PHP. We're still using the MSSQL server for the DB -- it's not moving. In the ASP, now, there's an include file with a giant sql query that's being executed. This include sits on a lot of pages and this is a simple version of what happens. Pages A, B and C all use this include file to return a listing. In ASP, Page A passes through variable A to the include file - page B passes through variable B -- page C passes through variable C, and so on. The include file builds the SQL query like this: sql = "SELECT * from table_one LEFT OUTER JOIN table_two ON table_one.id = table_two.id" then adds (remember, ASP), based on the variable passed through from the parent page, Select Case sType Case "A" sql = sql & "WHERE LOWER(column_a) <> 'no' AND LTRIM(ISNULL(column_b),'') <> '' ORDER BY column_a Case "B" sql = sql & "WHERE LOWER(column_c) <> 'no' ORDER BY lastname, firstname Case "C" sql = sql & "WHERE LOWER(column_f) <> 'no' OR LOWER(column_g) <> 'no' ORDER BY column_g As you notice, every string that's added on as the second part of the sql query is different than the previous; not just one variable can be substituted out, which is what has me stumped. How do I translate this case / switch into the stored procedure, based on the varchar input that I pass to the stored procedure via PHP? This stored procedure will actually handle a query listing for about 20 pages, so it's a hefty one and this is my first major complicated one. I'm getting there, though! I think I understand from the drupal docs, that I am (maybe) looking at <div class="block block-menu_block" id="block-menu_block-1" ==> module := menu_block delta := 1 (?) regrettably, none of the suggested * block-[module]-[delta].tpl.php * block-[module].tpl.php * block-[region].tpl.php placed next to page.tpl.php has any impact (yes, I did clear the cache).

  Hi, I need to parse an XML record that represents a QuizQuestion. The "type" attribute tells the type of question. I then need to create an appropriate subclass of QuizQuestion based on the question type. The following code works ([auto]release statements omitted for clarity): QuizQuestion *question = [[QuizQuestion alloc] initWithXMLString:xml]; if( [ [question type] isEqualToString:@"multipleChoiceQuestion"] ) { [myQuestions addObject:[[MultipleChoiceQuizQuestion alloc] initWithXMLString:xml]; } //QuizQuestion.m -(id)initWithXMLString:(NSString*)xml { self.type = ...// parse "type" attribute from xml // parse the rest of the xml } //MultipleChoiceQuizQuestion.m -(id)initWithXMLString:(NSString*)xml { if( self= [super initWithXMLString:xml] ) { // multiple-choice stuff } } Of course, this means that the XML is parsed twice: once to find out the type of QuizQuestion, and once when the appropriate QuizQuestion is initialized. To prevent parsing the XML twice, I tried the following approach: // MultipleChoiceQuizQuestion.m -(id)initWithQuizRecord:(QuizQuestion*)record { self=record; // record has already parsed the "type" and other parameters // multiple-choice stuff } However, this fails due to the "self=record" assignment; whenever the MultipleChoiceQuizQuestion tries to call an instance-method, it tries to call the method on the QuizQuestion class instead. Can someone tell me the correct approach for parsing XML into the appropriate subclass when the parent class needs to be initialized to know which subclass is appropriate?

  I'm trying to create a PHP class extending mysqli that is capable of connecting with another user if the connection fails. If the first user fails to connect, I try with the next one. The problem here is with $this->connect_errno. It says it cannot find Mysqli. Is there any solution to this or should I create a Factory class?

  I'm piggy-backing off of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2368195/how-to-join-tables-in-unidirectional-many-to-one-condition. If you have two classes: class A { @Id public Long id; } class B { @Id public Long id; @ManyToOne @JoinColumn(name = "parent_id", referencedColumnName = "id") public A parent; } B - A is a many to one relationship. I understand that I could add a Collection of Bs to A however I do not want that association. So my actual question is, Is there an HQL or Criteria way of creating the SQL query: select * from A left join B on (b.parent_id = a.id) This will retrieve all A records with a Cartesian product of each B record that references A and will include A records that have no B referencing them. If you use: from A a, B b where b.a = a then it is an inner join and you do not receive the A records that do not have a B referencing them. I have not found a good way of doing this without two queries so anything less than that would be great. Thanks.

It is obviously being defined somehow because if I change it to something else (e.g. item_number.description then the error message becomes undefined local variable or methoditem_number' for #instead. The invoice_item_number object that is being displayed by this partial is being used perfectly well by the form helpers as<%= f.text_field :item_number %and<% f.text_field :amount %both work perfectly well. I have tried a number of solutions such as using@invoice_item_number` and explicitly defining an object in the render method but these have not worked. Presumably there is a very simple answer to this.

• Bespoke Development or Leverage SharePoint With Web Parts etc?

  Hi all, We are currently in the process of drawing up a solution for an existing client, creating a number of eServices. The client currently have MOSS 2007. The proposed solution is to use MOSS as the launching pad for the eServices… The requirement involves drawing up several online forms which provide registration facilities as well as facilitating a workflow of some sort. I have been told that the proposed solution requires complex web forms. Most are complex forms with parent child details that have multiple windows. The proposed solution is to do some bespoke development, developing ASP .NET forms. These forms would be deployed under the _layouts folder of the current MOSS portal, inheriting the master page design on the current site. I have been told that this approach make development and deployment more simple, as well has having ‘complete integration’ with MOSS. My questions are: Is this the best way to leverage SharePoint – it seems like the proposed solution is not leveraging MOSS at all..! I thought perhaps utilizing Web Parts would be better, but I have been told that this is more complex and developing more smarter intuitive UI is more difficult. Is this really the case? If not, what should be the recommended approach? We will be utilizing Ultimus as the workflow engine. However, I have been recommended K2 Workflows. Anyone used both/have any opinions on either? However, I need to define some package-level configuration such as a new interceptor stack and exception mappings. I'd like to use the struts.xml file for this, but I can't get the convention-based packages matched to the struts.xml packages. My home page lists all posts from three "main categories" (parent category), but unfortunately it's also listing some posts from the sub-categories. • Android, NetworkInfo.getTypeName(), NullpointerException

  I have an activity which shows some List entries. When I click on a list item my app checks which connection type is available ("WIF" or "MOBILE"), through NetworkInfo.getTypeName(). As soon as I call this method I get a NullpointerException. Why? I tested this on the emulator, cause my phone is currently not available (it's broken...). I assume this is the problem? This is the only explanation that I have, if that's not the case I have no idea why this would be null. • Making an owner-draw button transparent against its arbitrary background in WINCE

  Hi I am trying to place an owner-draw button transparently onto a background. I have no trouble doing this when the background is a solid colour but if the background is an image I cannot seem to get the correct HDC (handle to device context) to Bitblt() the area that button covers. The HDC that is passed as part of the DRAWITEMSTRUCT gives me a button-default-grey area. If I attempt to get the parent of the HWND and then the device context of that i.e pdc = GetDC(GetParent(hWnd)); then the background that gets BitBlt'd is the background of the last painted window. • Complex LINQ paging algorithm

  We have a list of projects that may or may not have a collection of subprojects. Our report needs to contain all the projects except those that are the parent project of a subproject. I need to page this into pages of, say, 25 rows. But if subprojects appear on that page then ALL the subprojects of that project must appear on the same page. So more than 25 items may appear if necessary. I've got as far as var pagedProjects = db.Projects.Where(x => !x.SubProjects.Any()).Skip( (pageNo -1) * pageSize).Take(pageSize); Obviously, this fails the second part of the requirements. As a further pain in the arse, I need to have a pager control on the report. So I'll need to be able to calculate the total number of pages. I could loop through the whole table of projects but the performance will suffer. Can anybody come up with a paged solution? EDIT - I should probably mention that SubProjects joins back onto Projects via a selfreferencing foreign key so the whole lot comes back as an IQueryable<Project>.

For example, the products in the tables are a print product(like a greeting card) that has multiple pages to render. Page 1 may have 2 text fields that can be customized, page 2 may have 3 text fields, a slider to define text size, and a drop down list to pick a color, and page 3 may have five text fields that can all be customized. All three pages (and all form elements, 12 in this example) are associated with 1 product. So when I create the product, could i add a button to create a page for that product, then within the page i can add a button to add a new form element field? I'm still somewhat new to this, so my db structure may not be ideal. i'd appreciate any suggestions and feedback! Could someone point me toward some information, tutorials, documentation, ideas, suggestions, on how I can implement this?
