I do have an official license key bought when installing Windows 8, my question is, now that I need to format Install Win 7 Pro Upgrade to Win 8 Pro how do I make sure my next activation is successfully? In other words, how can I, not change, but remove my license so I can re-use it again when everything is fresh and updated

• Opening password protected Excel 2007 documents by double clicking from My documents does not work u

  When all of the following conditions are true, excel will open (most of the time) but will not open the document itself. No error is displayed. This only occurs with Excel files, Word and powerpoint do open perfectly. Conditions : OS is "Windows 7 Professional 64-bit" office is "Office 2007 Ultimate". excel file is in .xls (2003 format) excel file is password protected excel file is in "My Documents" (or a subfolder of it) file is double-clicked from explorer under Windows 7. Following options do open the excel file as it should : right click and selecting the (bold) open action single click the file and pressing enter moving the file to the desktop and double-click it. non password protected files do open from the same directory. Actions taken not resolving the problem: - reboot - repair office installation - system restore does not work because of Antivirus application installed (message from system restore, using "Symantec Internet Security 2010") Anyone any idea ?

  I use Excel sheets to track the status of tasks through a set of discrete statuses. I'd like to be able to format these automatically, with the start being red, the end being green and progressing through the combination colors in the middle. Status1 (Red) Status2 (More Red than Green) Status3 (More Green than Red) Status4 (Green) The "Color Scales" option under Conditional Formatting seems like it could be made to work, but it wants numbers. So, my question, can it be done? Using conditional formatting or other formulas to achieve the desired affect?

• Color Calibrate Dual Monitor XP SP2

  This topic has been touched on before but not really answered. I have a dual monitor system and the colors differ wildly. I currently live Buenos Aires where color correction hardware costs premium prices. I do some graphic design, but don't require a pro-level calibration. That said, I'd like my monitors to be set as close to "true color" as possible. I've located the useful and free Monitor Calibration Wizard, but it seems to adjust the entire system internally at startup. I could use the Microsoft Color Control Panel Applet to set a different ICC or ICM profile for each monitor, but the Monitor Calibration Wizard outputs its own format for profiles.

  Im having troubles while im trying to connect from linux to Windows CE, via VNC viewer. • Migrate wireless settings from xp to windows 7

  I'm trying to migrate the settings of my old machine (Win XP Professional) to the new one (Win 7 Professional) and I would like to keep my saved passwords for various wireless networks. How can I export them from XP and import in Win7? A few things that are mentioned a lot in chat groups but don't work: netsh can export/import wlan profiles on Vista/Win7, but not on XP; the Wireless Network Setup Wizard can only export settings for networks created by me; the best method I found was via http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wireless_wep_key_faq.html which can list hex keys, but cannot load them nor save them in a useful format; I would rather not copy them one-by-one by hand.

• how to create iso dvd image for use with mac/osx "Disk Utility"?

  This seemed way easier on my pc. I would just pop a blank dvd in the drive, it asked what I wanted to do with it, to which I would respond, "burn dvd with nero" (paraphrasing), then I would pick "new" and just drag and drop the folders in there. Mac appears to have "Disk Utility" which just requires that I 'choose an image' but then doesn't bother to detail - how to do this - what the options mean e.g. format "mac OS extended (journaled)" is that ever going to be readable on a non mac machine? I want to create an ISO standard dvd as per the 'default' you'd get on nero. All the stuff on the web points to doing things with 'terminal' (the whole point of buying a mac was to get away from command line jiggery pokery - I'm trying to burn some photos not land a friggin lunar module here!) Please, if you can just provide some simple instructions on what I need to achive this I'd be extremely grateful. Ta muchley in advance.

  We are running exim version 4.72 I'm using bounce_message_file to customize our bounce messages, like desribed in the documentation Within this bounce message template I can access various variables like $message_exim_id, etc. Is there also a way to access the list of the failing addresses (maybe with their error messages) in such a variable (as string, list,... whatever) or in any other way? It does not really matter how and in which format they are, I just want access them within the bounce message template file. • Is there a version of the Arial or Tahoma font with monospaced digits and spaces?

  The digits in the Arial font supplied with Windows are monospaced, in that they each take up the same horizontal space, but they seem to have neglected to provide a "monospaced" version of the space character. This means that you can't format a column of digits right-justified in (say) 12 spaces and have the right-hand edge be aligned. For example: 1 12 123 1234 12345 1234567 12345678 123456789 1234567890 works because the font used for code examples has spaces the same width as digits. This however doesn't work if the same text is displayed in Arial (I can't demonstrate because I can't figure out how to defeat SU's reformatting at the moment!). It just so happens that with Tahoma 8 point you can cheat because a space is exactly half the number of pixels as a digit, but that is messy and very specific.

• Apple Automator "New PDF from Images" maintaining same filename

  I will potentially have 26k of old legacy PICT images to transfer first to PDF for migration. I am using Apple Automator and also the "Dispense Items Incrementally" to loop through it. However, I can't seem to let "New PDF from Images" to remember the original filename. Anyone able to offer some advice :) FYI, I am transforming it to PDF because I can't do it using ImageMagick to convert directly to my ultimate JPEG format. Due to the fact that my PICT was created very long ago and thus has some convert: improper image header error. See this ticket for more information. Thus I am doing a intermediate convert PICT to PDF first, then convert that PDF to JPEG :) The only thing left is the naming of the "Output File Name" which do not allow me to identify original filename.   Possible Duplicate: How to enlarge a PDF document on Kindle? I have a kindle 6". The problem is that I often read pdf files that are technical, therefore, it doesn't get converted very well to Kindle's native format (for example, code blocks get messed, and things like that). When I watch the pdf page, it's very small to read easily, so I have to rotate the screen to a horizontal position in order to see it better, but my page get divided. But some documents would be easy to read in vertical position if I had the chance to enlarge the font size a little bit in a external pdf editor, therefore enabling the reading in the vertical orientation. Is there a way to change the font size in a pdf file?

• How can I copy cells in Excel 2007 and paste with formatting

  I am wanting to be able to copy cells in a worksheet and paste them elsewhere in the same worksheet while maintaining the original formatting. I also want to be able to paste into Word and Outlook and keep the same formatting. Everything I have tried discards the the formatting and only pastes unformatted text. Paste Option buttons do not appear even though they have been defined in the setting to appear. Also Format Painter does not seem to do anything at all. Is there a setting that needs to be changed to resolve this?

  Hi, I have a Gigabyte motherboard with an onboard Realtek HD sound card. The card is working perfectly everywhere, except for a single video format, where the voice is distorted, sounds as if it's been passed through a metal tube. Been googling for this, but couldn't find an answer anywhere. The movie plays fine on other systems (got Linux everywhere else), but on this one (winXP-x64-sp2) it just doesn't. • pnp4nagios does not generate perfdata

  I am running nagios2, pnp4nagios-0.6.16 and php 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.19. In my setup, pnp4nagios is correctly generating perfdata, which can be seen via the web interface in graphical form for lots of services. The perfdata directory contains entries of the kind: /usr/local/pnp4nagios/var/perfdata/zeus/Disk_Space_Home.rrd /usr/local/pnp4nagios/var/perfdata/zeus/Disk_Space_Home.xml I have activated performance data for a new nagios service: define serviceextinfo { host_name zeus service_description 450average action_url /pnp4nagios/index.php?host=$HOSTNAME$&srv=$SERVICEDESC$ } This service is generating monitoring data in the format: status_info|perf_data as required for performance gathering. But somehow the performance data related to this service is not being collected by pnp4nagios (no related entries in /usr/local/pnp4nagios/var/perfdata) Are there any pnp4nagios scripts or settings which I could use to debug this?

  I have the following script that parses an HR output file looking for employees and outputs information such as Hire Dare, First Name, Last Name, Supervisor etc. The problem I have is that in the current format I think the Hire Date column is being treated as a string so in effect it orders the output by month (i.e. 1/1/01 comes before 2/2/98). Is there a way to map that column to a date/time so it sorts properly? • How to convert series of MP3 to a M4B in a batch

  I have a batch of MP3 based books. Some of them divide into files according to book's own structure: chapters and so on. Some of them was just divided into equally lengthened parts. So. I've bought an iPhone, and I want to convert them all to M4B format. How could I convert them in a batch? I mean how cold I set up a process once, for each book, and then, after couple of weeks, receive totally converted library. The only able program for such conversion I've found was Audiobook Builder for a Mac. But it is pretty slow and do not support batching in principle. Solutions for any platform, please.

  I would like to change an entry for a solution to boot from CD from legacy grub (looks like title bla bla bla) to an entry to a format compatible to grub 2 (the one that looks like menuentry "bla bla bla" {. • Lenova B460e laptop Unknown filesystem

  I got Lenova B460e laptop yesterday (by TN Govt). It has WINDOWS 7 Proff….. Setup it up the way I liked it... all software drivers and all. I wanted extra drives, so I entered the WINDOWS diskadmin and changed my partition setup, by splitting and I did the partition setup in the installing proces, so I splitted my harddisk into 4 parts. So far so good. When I rebooted, I entered GRUB RESCUE MODE. In this mode I know the only command “ls”. Which gives like (hd0) (hd0,msdos5) (hd0,msdos4) (hd0,msdos2) (hd0,msdos1). In this Lap I do not have CD drive also, otherwise I could have done Format the OS and installed new OS using WINDOWS 7 CD. Now I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. Anyone an idea how to fix this?

• EBS+RAID10+XFS slower than EBS+RAID10+EXT3 using MySQL?

  We're currently using EC2 with 16 EBS volumes in RAID10 configuration for our MySQL data. I know some people don't recommend to put EBS volumes to RAID but that's not what I'm concerned about at the moment. Current format is ext3, but we're experimenting with moving to xfs, given many reports that it is faster. However, we're actually experiencing a performance degradation when the partition was converted to xfs - a benchmark run with inserts, updates, selects and deletes was more than 10 seconds slower using xfs. Any idea what could be the problem? Below is the fstab entry (really only changed ext3 to xfs). Database tables are innodb and we are using innodb_file_per_table. /dev/mapper/vg_data-lv_data /data xfs noatime 0 0 Thanks.

• How to install the TRIM RAID update for the Intel storage controller?

  I just found this article, that says that Intel now supports TRIM for SSDs when the Intel storage controller is in RAID mode. It links to this download page. I'm pretty excited about that, but I'm a little confused. There seem to be two sets of drivers, an executable and something that's bootable. I ran the executable. Is that just to apply the drivers to my system now, and are the bootable drivers so that if I re-format, I won't have to re-run everything? Do I need to do both? And is there a way to check if it worked? I'm running an i7 in Windows 7 (ASUS P6T Deluxe Motherboard) with RAID 0, if that's significant.

• SSH broken after homedir permissions and hostname change on EC2-hosted Ubuntu

  I changed my instance's hostname using the hostname utility and then set it in /etc/hostname so that the new name survives reboot. My main motivation was for differentiating between instances at the prompt using the \h format in PS1. EDIT I also changed permissions on my home directory. I made my home directory group writeable. Now I can no longer SSH into the machine. The short of it is the error Permission denied (publickey). Running ssh -v, the more verbose output is: debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey debug1: Next authentication method: publickey debug1: Offering RSA public key: /Users/dmitry/.ssh/id_rsa debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey debug1: Trying private key: /Users/dmitry/.ssh/ec2key.pem debug1: read PEM private key done: type RSA debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey debug1: No more authentication methods to try. Permission denied (publickey). Should I have done something after changing the hostname? Now I can't get into the instance! :(

• O'Reilly Safari Books Online and Sony Reader

  I've accumulated a good collection of book snippets in pdf format from Safari Online and I was thinking about getting an ebook reader, specifically the Sony-PRS300, to hold them all for portable reference. If anyone has done this, two questions. Are there any DRM restrictions when the pdfs are put on the reader? I can't see any restrictions flat out in the pdfs on my notebook. There's a watermark that says the pdf is licensed to me. How good is the reader at rendering complex pdfs, with code snippets and illustrations? I read a previous post where it works fine in landscape mode. I can deal with that. Thanks in advance.
