  Using microsoft DNS All/most of our local hosts ( with in ) are in following domain *.company.org So a host name will look like mymachine001.company.org Is it possible to set up wild card DNS entries of the form ? *.subd.company.com Note: The URL ends with .com, all other hosts so far ever set up in the DNS were of the format *.company.org what i am trying to achieve is the following. A user with in internal network types a url http://someprefix.subd.company.com in browser and enters. Since there is a wild card entry in DNS, the user gets routed to host mapped to *.subd.company.com in the DNS Note : at the same time, company.com has a public DNS entry and that is mapped to a physical IP in some other network (data center)

• Merging and re-formatting paragraphs in Microsoft Word 2007

  After a copy/paste mishap in Microsoft Word 2007, I ended up with text looking like this: This line breaks up here continues here, and so on here, when it should all be in a single line without all the random whitespace. I confirmed that there are paragraph separators and extra whitespace between each line - probably due to hard-coded newlines in the original source. Is there a (preferrably easy) way to merge paragraphs in Microsoft Word? Is there a way to re-format a paragraph so that extraneous whitespace is removed? I can change the flush style, but the whitespace remains. I (obviously?) do not have any experience with Word, being more of a TeX person, but I have been searching Google and crawling the menus for a few hours and I have yet to find a solution...

• Using sed to convert hex characters in postgresql dump file

  I am working on moving several databases from a Postgresql 8.3 server to a Postgresql 8.4 server. It has worked fine so far, but one base has given me some trouble. The database is listed as unicode-encoded in the 8.3-server, but somehow a client program has managed to inject some invalid unicode data into it. When I do a normal dump and restore using postgres' custom format, the new server won't accept it, complaining about unicode errors. My plan is to do a plain text dump of the database, then use sed to replace the invalid characters with nothing (they are not needed). But how do you make sed work on hex/binary values in a file?

• Color Calibrate Dual Monitor XP SP2

  This topic has been touched on before but not really answered. I have a dual monitor system and the colors differ wildly. I currently live Buenos Aires where color correction hardware costs premium prices. I do some graphic design, but don't require a pro-level calibration. That said, I'd like my monitors to be set as close to "true color" as possible. I've located the useful and free Monitor Calibration Wizard, but it seems to adjust the entire system internally at startup. I could use the Microsoft Color Control Panel Applet to set a different ICC or ICM profile for each monitor, but the Monitor Calibration Wizard outputs its own format for profiles.

• Moving users folder on Windows Vista/Seven to another partition

  When I format the computer and reinstall Windows, my first step is move the "my documents" folder to another partition. In Windows XP it wasn't enough because the desktop folder and another user folders was in the primary partition. Now in Windows Seven and Vista we can use HardLinks to "move" the folder to another partition and Windows and another programs will think that the data is in the primary parition. What the fastest and secure steps to move the Users folder to another partition and to create the hardlinks correctly? Thank you very much!

  I'm using Vyatta routers with KVM and want to attach a floppy drive with a config file for Vyatta when I boot the image. I'll be doing this over and over again, and as such am looking for an automated way of creating the floppy images. Right now, I'm doing the following: Create floppy image with qemu-img create Format floppy image with mkdosfs Mount floppy image with mount -t fat /tmp/floppy.img /media/floppy Populate floppy image with cp -r /tmp/configs/ /media/floppy/ Unmount floppy image with umount /media/floppy Save floppy image with mv /tmp/floppy.img ~/floppies/ Any chance there's an easier way to do this?! Perhaps a shortcut application that I can give a directory to and it will do all this for me w/out having to mount the image?

  Possible Duplicate: How do I tell Thunderbird never to send (or even try to send) html emails? In the account settings of Thunderbird (version 11.0.1) I have disabled HTML and set it to compose messages as plain text. That works for new messages. However, when I get an HTML email and reply to that mail, Thunderbird uses HTML. I went to the setting in: Tools ? Options ? Composition ? Send Options ? Plain Text Domains And have tried *.* as the domain name. I also changed the default text format in Settings - Compose - Send options. Neither of them works, the reply is still using HTML (for my own text). How can I really reply in plain text only, regardless of incoming?

  Question: Can the major TV producer's internet TV systems access network resource? Info: I'm looking for large TV's right now for my company to set up in conference rooms. We want the ability to load presentations with out having to have a computer to do so. Our hope is to put things on to network drives and access and display them from there. I've heard that LG's can do this if you convert the power point file in to a show format. that's fine. I just need to get this information to the TV with out the computer attached. • FTP script download from linux to windows

  I'm using following FTP script on windows xp to download zip files from ubuntu cloud servers. A zip file is created every day on ubutnu servers and I will download it to windows via this ftp script. I run this script everyday manually as I have to edit the last line(mget /usr/backup_02-11-2010.Zip) of the script to match today's date. I want to edit this script so that it will download only today's zip file at the scheduled time without needing to edit it everyday, when scheduled. It's clear that date is appended to the zip files and is in the format dd-mm-yyyy. • Hide Drive / Avoid Low Diskspace Warning on ReadyBoost Cache?

  I've just added an SSD as a ReadyBoost cache drive, and have two minor cosmetic issues with it: the drive still shows up in the drive list I get a warning balloon every five minutes that the drive is full and that I should empty the Recycle Bin. The former is ignorable (and I guess I can solve it with a group policy); the latter is somewhat going on my nerves. Are there official buttons "hide ReadyBoost drives" and "do not warn on low diskspace for ReadyBoost drives" somewhere that I may have missed? If not, I guess I can use the group policy to hide the drive; I'd still need a way for the system to not warn about the drive being full. Also, am I right that I need to assign a drive letter and format the drive with NTFS to use it for ReadyBoost, or is there a way to just use the raw device?

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies. when I comment those lines in htaccess mysite appears but in non-www format. I'm sure it works well before on the Ubuntu . but I don't know why it doesn't work now. would you help me?

• Is it possible to have non-English regional settings with English day/month names?

  I live in Estonia where most regional settings (number, currency and date formats) differ from those used in English-speaking countries. For instance, decimal symbol is comma, thousands separator is space, date format is day-month-year, etc. However, if I set my regional settings to Estonian, then day and month names are also shown in Estonian everywhere: This is slightly annoying since the language used for the rest of Windows is English and I'd like the day and month names to be consistent with it. Is this possible while still keeping the local regional settings? One workaround I've tried is to set regional settings to, say, English (UK) and then customise them to match Estonian settings, but that messes up alphabetic sorting - accented letters like "ö" and "ä" are no longer distinguished from their non-accented versions, and "z" is sorted as last rather than at its correct position in the Estonian alphabet (between "s" and "t"). OS is Windows 7 Professional, in case that matters. Edit: alternatively, if there's no built-in way to accomplish what I want, is it possible to create a custom set of regional settings (like one can create custom keyboard layouts)?

• Cannot boot from Yumi multiboot USB stick

  I've just created a multiboot USB stick using Yumi. I tried to start my notebook (Asus K70IO) using it, but all I see is just a black screen with blinking underscore even after waiting for minutes. If during this time I remove the USB stick I get the message: "Operating system load error". How do I properly load my Yumi USB stick and use it? I've tried formatting it using Yumi's checkbox to format the stick in FAT32 too, but it didn't help. Now I tried to use Sardu 2.0.5 and met same problem: black screen and blinkin underscore, if I remove stick I see "Operating system load error" and my OS starts to boot. At the same time if I create bootable USB stick from ISO using UltraISO it boots smoothly.

• excel - merge cells including a zip code

  Hi all, I have the need to merge a bunch of cells that comprise an address (street, city, state, zip) into a single cell. No problem except with the zip code. The zip cell has only 4 digits for any zip that starts with 0. So, I change it's format to be Special - Zip Code. That makes the cell itself show the beginning 0, but the merged cell still does not show the leading 0. Does anyone know how to get the leading 0 in the merged column? Thanks Evan

  Hi, Do you know any software or compilations that you recommend to handle drivers and codecs for newly formated computer? I am having problem gathering drivers and codecs when I format my computer or other's computer because we frequently misplace it's original drivers. I need an offline solution that doesn't need internet. Same for as the codec, when formating computer we frequently lost our codecs, are there codec packs you know that you would like to recommend? P.s. I had tried driver bot but it's only good when your online, I'm looking for a complete package that has all the driver to most common hardware (eg. Monitor, Sound, etc). Thanks!

Problem: Say I have a lossy mp3 audio file(5.17Mb ie. 87% compressed from its original souce-unknown), I then encode it to another LOSSLESS format, say FLAC or WAVPACK. The size increases(23.14Mb ie. 39% compressed from its original souce-mp3)! ID tags, etc remain the same and there's no way of checking the integrity of its origin. Question: Is there a way of checking that the so-called FLAC or WAVPACK audio file was originally encoded from a LOSSLESS source(wav,cda,ape,...etc) instead of a LOSSY source(mp3,aac,ATRAC,..etc) Thank you.   I have a 140 MB text file, which contains detail information of books in library. For each book details there is a standard format data details in text file. I need to parse it and insert the data in Database. Here, parsing text file is not an issue. I am facing problem in parsing this large file. So i decided to split the file in small file around 2 MB each file. But i can't manually split this large file in so many pieces. I got HJsplit tool, which split the file but this also doesn't helped as this split the file but 1 book details half part is in one file and rest part is in second file. so if i split this way then information will be missed. How to split the large so that i cant miss the information ? Is there any tool which help me in this condition.

  Hi all, if I format my usb key with an extX file system, copy some files on it and then give it to a friend for him to add files or modify existing one on this key, then he is rejected by its own system. Because its User ID (UID) nor GID are the same as mine on my machine. How to get rid of this limitation? Is it possible to disable user rights on a ext2/ext3 partition? Of course, I would really like not to rely on any other file system.

  Hello, We have several thousand 'contacts' setup in AD already for a faxing system. We're migrating to an online fax provider that uses e-mail rather than plain old telephone. So, we've bulk edited all the AD records so that the 'mail' attribute is populated with the right e-mail address in the right format. Now, how do we enable these contacts within Exchange 2007? I've looked through http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb684891.aspx but that only seems to talk about manually editing the CSV output to specify the external addresses. AD already knows the external e-mail addresses - I just need the info in Exchange! Any thoughts?

• How do I kill a process that keeps respawning?

  I got infected by a virus. It looks like I removed it, but it somehow injected a few more processes (I can see them in the task manager) that respawn when I kill them (somehow). Is there a way to destroy those process to stop them from respawning, or in the case something else is respawning them, to kill that "something"? I really don't want to format my pc for this. The data in it is very important for me (personal value) so I'd really want to know a way to do this without reinstalling my OS. I'm on Windows Vista 32 bits.

  Im new using KVM as a virtualization solution. Currently I'm using VirtualBox to manage my virtual machines in my personal computer, but I'm moving my virtualization to a Server, so I set up a Linux server with KVM. And now I'm trying to import a virtualBox vm to KVM. So far I couldn't make it work. I already convert the ova file from VirtualBox to a format more familiar to KVM (qcow2), and I try to create a new virtual machine using virt-install command and setting the new virtual machine hard drive with the .qcow2 file.   I have a problem with Disk Utility on Mac OS X 10.6. I have an image of Windows that I would like to use as a bootable volume on a pen drive or external hard drive. The thing is: When I try to restore the volume from the image I get an error: "Restore Failure: Could not validate resource - Invalid Argument" I read some information about that error on the Internet. I converted the image into .iso (Mac OS Extended/ISO (Joliet) Hybrid Image) format and then got this error: "Restore Failure: Could not find any scan information. The source image needs to be imagescanned before it can be restored." When I try to scan the image for Restore, I get the first message. I really read a lot of information about this topic on the Internet, but I haven't found the solution. I tried both ISO and DMG formats; I don't know which is best.

• Tool to bulk speed up/convert an audio file

  I want to listen to certain podcasts on my phone but I have two common problems: The audio is in some weird format (some don't play on my phone). The audio is slow. I want to use something like sox or avconv to bulk convert the files. Since this is just voice and going on a cell phone, small low-quality files would be best for me. I had some good success using avconv: avconv -i weird.wma normal.ogg Unforunately, this command creates an enormous ogg file and I can't get it play faster. Ideally, this particular file would play at 170% of the original speed.
