Why is display:inline killing IE 8.0 performance?

I have an image gallery based on this jQuery plugin: http://jqueryfordesigners.com/demo/slider-gallery.html This works really well in Firefox, Chrome and even IE 7.0, but when I try it with more than 50 images in IE 8.0 the performance is incredible slow. Just hovering over the thumbnail brings the CPU load to 100%. At first I thought it's a Javascript problem, so I used the IE profiler, but the results were normal. Next I checked the CSS and finally found the cause: .sliderGallery UL LI { display: inline; } This gets the thumbnails to align horizontally. If I chance it to display:block, performance is fine and the scroller is still working but obviously it looks funny, because the thumbs are aligned vertically. My questions: Why does IE 8 have this problem with many display:inline elements What can I do to solve it I'll gladly provide more information if necessary.

Where to place a query that should be included in all or most views

In my application I have a sidebar which I want to include a list of pages. Cheating on the MVC setup, I can pretty easily display this as follows (in HAML): # layouts/_sidebar.html.haml %h4 Pages %ul.pages - for page in Page.all %li= link_to page.title, page Now, this works just fine, but clearly it's against the convention. The problem is, this shared layout partial is present in most (but not all) views, and therefore to serve the pages from the controller layer would mean needing to inject an instance variable into almost every controller action in the application. That isn't very clean or DRY. So, how would you handle this kind of situation? Is there a clean, DRY place to put this kind of a simple query that respects Rails MVC convention better?

How can I copy a queryset to a new model in django admin?

I'm trying to write an action that allows the user to select the queryset and copy it to a new table. So: John, Mark, James, Tyler and Joe are in a table 1( called round 1) The user selects the action that say to "move to next round" and those same instances that were chosen are now also in the table for "round 2". HTML Link and Jquery Live Only Works on First Try with one click

When the link is added to the page it works fine, however when another link is added to the unordered list it requires two clicks for the click event to fire on either link. I am exposing the Dto generated from AutoMapper to my WCF services. I would like to offer something like that from WCF: IList GetPersonByQuery(Expression predicate); Unfortunately I need back an expression tree of Person as my DAL doesn't know the DTO. How do I reference members of a single object passed to the View?

I'm new to MVC2 in ASP.NET/C#, so please forgive me if I misunderstand something. I have code similar to this in my Controller: var singleInstance = new Person("John"); ViewData["myInstance"] = singleInstance; return View(); So in my view, Index.aspx, I want to be able to reference members in that object. For example, Person has a member called Name, which is set in the constructor. In the view I want to get Person.Name from what is stored in the ViewData object. Ex.: <%= ViewData["myInstance"].name %> That doesn't work. The only real workaround I've found is to do something like this: <% var thePerson = ViewData["myInstance"]; print (or whatever the method is) thePerson.Name; %> Any help would be much appreciated... This was so much easier in PHP/Zend Framework... sigh

what's wrong with concatenation in blackberry application?

For the life of me, I can't understand why adding a concatenated string to the MainScreen is causing the BB simulator to throw an exception. If I run a VERY simple hello program with the following control, all is well: RichTextField rtfHello = new RichTextField("Hello There !!!"); add(rtfItemDescription); But if I add a concatenated string, the entire app breaks: String MyName = "John Doe"; RichTextField rtfHello = new RichTextField("Hello There !!!" + MyName); add(rtfItemDescription); So what am I doing wrong? Why would the simulator throw an exception for the second example?

IE6 PNG transparency fix with Backgroud positioned

So I am using this to fix PNG transparency on background images in IE6 ul li a { background-image: url('/NewSite/Content/Images/Sprite.png'); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: 0 -48px; background-image: none; filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(src=/NewSite/Content/Images/Sprite.png, sizingMethod='crop'); } This works great, however I have run into a problem when trying to implement this with a sprite. The fix ignores the positioning and renders as if the position was top right. Is there a way to force background position or a better way to do this. I would prefer to not use JavaScript or change to gifs. Any help is appreciated!

Override jQuery style value

Hi To resolve a jQuery slideDown/Up problem, I had to change one line in the jQuery file. I changed line 5738 from this.elem.style.display = "block"; to this.elem.style.display = "inline-block"; The block attribute messed up my lists when using slideDown/Up/Toggle. slideDown changes my list from display:inline to display:block during execution, and then back to display: inline again. It would be much better if it was inline (or inline-block) all the way. Is there a way to override the value stated above from my html page, or do I have to stick with my modified jQuery file? vba excel copy subtable from sheet to sheet

I realize that this is probably a duplicate, but I've been searching for an hour and I can't to get the syntax right. I have a sheet with several tables. There is at least one empty column and one empty row between one table to the other. I know the start row and start column of each table, and I know that each table has 3 columns. I don't know how many rows it has. I want to write a sub that receives: table start row table start column and copies the table into another sheet (let's say that the destination is sheet2 starting at A1). I know I can do it with a loop, but I suspect there is a better syntax right? (The main issue here is that I need to find the number of rows each table has) Thanks. Li

jQuery .closest returns undefined

I've got the code below which works fine, however the jquery to add the items doesnt find the data-parent-room value and just returns undefined. Empty Structures compile in VB 10+

This is at least a documentation error, if not a bug. In VB.NET prior to .NET 4.0 (i.e. VB.NET 7 through 9) an empty Structure declaration fails at compile-time with error BC30281: Structure 'MySimpleEmpty' must contain at least one instance member variable or Event declaration. E.g. The following two structures compile successfully in VB10, and not prior: Structure MySimpleEmpty End Structure Public Structure AnotherEmpty Public Const StillEmpty As Boolean = True End Structure I note the documentation for the Error BC30281 stops at VB9, but the documentation for the Structure statement still has the datamemberdeclarations as required even as of VB11 (.NET 4.5 VS2012). These two Structures compile in VB11 (VS2012) as well. (Thanks John Woo.) Is there some blog entry or documentation confirming this is an intended change or a bug in VB10 and later?

idea Via jQuery, I was able to mark all :first-child and :last-child elements in document (well, almost all :)) with class first which could I later style (i.e. first li in ul#navigation would be easily adressable as ul#navigation .first). I used following code: var $f = $('*:first-child') $f.addClass('first'); var $l = $('body *:last-child') $l.addClass('last'); question Now, my question is if it's possible to do the same via php, so non-JS users/gadgets could have the same effects and additional styling and also it would be less overkill on browser. So, is it possible to capture output, parse it as html and inject this class easily in php?

ASP.NET MVC Programming

So here's the deal I'm working on a project that I had originally focused on Zend Framework, But now I want to get into ASP.NET MVC and boy lets just say it's good and a great start though i'm still at the beginning stage of it. But I am having issues with passing Data From My Controller to the Master / Layout Page. Now in Zend I am able to determine which controller and which action I am in through a helper I created. Now I want to implement the same functionality in this ASP.NET MVC application. So my Master Layout Page knows which Controller I am in and hence highilighting the navigation for it. I am using a straight custom html li a structure navigation. Any help on this specific topic would be greatly appreciated.

jQuery & IE on Refresh/Reload

Basically I create a page with a jQuery scroller on it. However in IE7 specifically, on refresh all the li's on the page are shown full out then they hide and the scroller begins. Anyone know how I can fire the jquery first, or prevent this from happening. Some input regarding Dojo (smooth css change on mouseover)

Take a look at the screenshot below to see the problem or visit the url to see the problem. http://homedynamics.com/sawgrass/floorplan.php I have made sure the ul li and img's are all cleared (padding:0; margin:0; border:0;) and still there is padding added to the left and right of the images. I also did "display: block" on images with no luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!!
