Turns out that this is a rather fundamental problem and my assumption that Windows Phone 7 is Silverlight 3 + Some other stuff is wrong. This page describes the differences between Mobile Silverlight and Silverlight 3. Of particular interest is this: The System.Reflection.Emit namespace is not supported in Silverlight for Windows Phone. This is precisely why Unity is crashing on the phone, DynamicMethodConstructorStrategy class uses System.Reflection.Emit quite extensively... So the question is, what alternative to Unity is there for Windows Phone 7?

• Why don't the .net 4.0 charting controls work in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express?

  The .net charting controls are now built into .net 4.0. They work great in Visual Studio 2010. However, they do not work in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express (which is what I have at home.) I get the error, System.Web.HttpException: Error executing child request for ChartImg.axd. That sounds like the message from .net 3.5 if charting wasn't set up correctly. But the bottom of the same page says, "Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:4.0.30319; ASP.NET Version:4.0.30319.1" Does anyone know why this doesn't work?

• spring mvc 3.0 small web application not quite working

  Hi, i'm creating a very simple (hello World quality) web application using spring mvc 3.0. when deploying the application on tomcat 6.0.26 and i try to open http://localhost:8080/protoweb/helloWorld.html i get 404, resource /protoweb/WEB-INF/jsp/helloWorld.jsp is not available. • Recommendation for a platform to teach game development to kids [closed]

  My 11 years old son decided he want to create a Web game. He does not know much about programming and I never did any game development so I'm not the best teacher of the topic. On one hand I really want him to get into building things and doing his own game sounds perfect. So I'd like to find a way to keep him interested and progressing by himself. This means that I'm looking for a platform that is: 1. Simple for understanding and use, intuitive interface 2. Powerful 3. Good tools, preferrably free 4. Significant community for questions and tips 5. Localization - my son's English is quite poor (native Hebrew). We looked at Alice, but it was too limited in its abilities and isn't really a Web game building platform. HTML/CSS and Javascript - too low level for a kid to keep the interest. What would you recommend?

• How to print a web page that contains flash

  I am using the chromium browser to display the following web page: http://www.primaryworksheets.co.uk/multiws/multi23.html I want to print off this maths worksheet for my son, but all I ever get out of my printer is a blank page. The web page appears to be produced using flash. I have been to the software centre and re-installed the flash plugin, but that did not help. I don't seem to have problems printing anything else. Firefox isn't any better. Can anyone tell me what else I might try? I'm using '11.04'. Thanks, Richard

• Haskell vs Erlang for web services

  I am looking to start an experimental project using a functional language and am trying to decide beween Erlang and Haskell, and both have some points that I really like. I like Haskell's strong type system and purity. I have a feeling it will make it easier to write really reliable code. And I think that the power of haskell will make some of what I want to do much easier. On the minus side I get the feeling that some of the Frameworks for doing web stuff on Haskell such as Yesod are not as advanced as their Erlang counter parts. I rather like the Erlang approach to threads and to fault tollerence. I have a feeling that the scalability of Erlang could be a major plus. Which leeds to to my question, what has people's exerience been in implementing web application backends in both Haskell and Erlang. Are there packages for Haskell to provide some of the lightweight threads and actors that one has in Erlang?

  I had the chance to take the beta version of exam 71-516 today. Here are my thoughts on it: first, I was rather annoyed to discover that I will only know if I passed or not about 8 weeks after the beta period expires (July, 02), which probably means September. It was a difficult exam, especially since I don't have any practice on some of the new Entity Framework options. The items covered, from the most covered to the least covered, were: Entity Framework (50-50 for POCO/Non-POCO) LINQ to SQL WCF Data Services Classic ADO.NET (DataSets, DataTables, DataAdapters, TableAdapters, Connections and Commands LINQ to XML Sync Framework (surprise!) All added up, I think it was a difficult exam. My advise is that you practice a lot! I will post the result as soon as I know it.

  I am writing a webservice, that when called should build a C# project. I'm using the framework 2 reference, Microsoft.Buld.Engine and Microsoft.Build.Framework. If you look under the '<Import>' section .csproj file, by default it has: <Import Project="$(MSBuildToolsPath)\Microsoft.CSharp.targets" /> which I then changed to: <Import Project="$(MSBuildBinPath)\Microsoft.CSharp.targets" /> My code to build the csproj is: Engine buildEngine = new Engine(Path.Combine(Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("SystemRoot"), @"Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727")); FileLogger logger = new FileLogger(); logger.Parameters = @"logfile=c:\temp\build.log"; buildEngine.RegisterLogger(logger); bool success = buildEngine.BuildProjectFile([Path_Of_Directory]+ "ProjectName.csproj"); buildEngine.UnregisterAllLoggers(); The success variable returns a false because the build faild. I then check the build.log file and this is the error I recieve: *Build started 3/17/2010 11:16:56 AM. ______________________________ Project "[Path_Of_Directory]\ProjectName.csproj" (default targets): Target GetFrameworkPaths: Could not locate the .NET Framework SDK. The task is looking for the path to the .NET Framework SDK at the location specified in the SDKInstallRootv2.0 value of the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft.NETFramework. You may be able to solve the problem by doing one of the following: 1.) Install the .NET Framework SDK. 2.) Manually set the above registry key to the correct location. We have stress tested the web service's farm and we have evidence that the actual architecture doesn't scale well, as the number of request are constantly increasing.   Hi, I'd like to embed simple audio player on my webpage and I want it to get the audio from a stream broadcasted from my server. I read I can use IceCast on my web-server, getting an audio stream from a client using IceS (or this is what i got from other questions and articles) but once I have my stream, IceCast is supposed to broadcast it on an URL, that can be opened from pkayers like winamp or similar. I've found out this is quite a rare topic, usually people just want to broadcast "radio" where files are taken from a static playlist. In this case I have to get a stream from an IceCast URL and embed it with a player on a web page. Thank.

• Adding IP address to OpenVZ VPS (OpenVZ Web Panel)

  I apologise if I sound at all dumb. This is my first dedicated server having used a VPS for over a year and I'm trying to setup a VPS on this new server. I purchased a subnet from my hosting provider that I believe allows me 6 usable IP addresses: 177.xx.xxx.201 - 177.xx.xxx.206 The subnet address looks like this: 177.xx.xxx.200/29. I've gone on my server and added them like it said on a wiki like so: ip addr add 177.**.***.201/29 dev eth0 I done that for all six and now when I go to them in the browser they point to my server. The problem is, I'm using OpenVZ web panel to create VMs (http://code.google.com/p/ovz-web-panel/) so I created a VM and assigned one of those IPs to it. However when SSHing to that IP it SSH's to the dedicated server and not the VM. Am I missing something?

• Looking for Windows shared web hosting with PHP support

  I'm looking for Windows based shared web hosting which supports multiple hosted web sites (multiple domains). Supported technologies should contain: ASP.NET 4, ASP.NET MVC IIS 7 MS SQL 2008 PHP, MySQL It is for my hobby projects so it should not be too expensive. I tried GoDaddy's Windows Deluxe hosting but the experience is very bad and I want to move elsewhere. WordPress hosted on GoDaddy's Windows hosting is unloaded every few minutes and next request takes around 20s to complete. Following request to empty site takes around 3s to complete. Even request for RSS wich transfers 1.2KB takes several seconds. The delay happens in PHP processing because static content is served within 200ms. It helped to migrate to Linux hosting (all requests are served under 1s) but Linux hosting is not what I'm looking for.
