  • Mount samba filesystem into RHEL 5.5

    How can I mount windows share file system into RHEL? I'm not a sysadmin, but I got this task assigned :( I've tried this solution mount -t smbfs -o username=samba,password=samba //Desktop/Public /mnt/public But the output is: mount: unknown filesystem type 'smbfs' How can I mount a windows share into RHEL 5? FWIW I've successfully created a link with the menu: Places>Connect to Server>Service Type:Windows Share Which creates a link in the desktop, but I would need to programatically save files in that machine, hence I need it mounted as filesystem.     I Connect to internet using PPTP connection type from my computer using following setting internet address: blue.connect.net.pk user id: myusername password: mypassword my problem: my dwr-112 router doesn't support internet address name, it rather supports only ip address of the server i.e I'm not able to type blue.connect.net.pk as it only supports server's ip adress. my question: How can I know the ip address of vpn server so that I can configure my dwr-112 router to connect to internet using pptp connection type

I am looking for a similar way to change background of the start screen and also the login screen where you answer the password without using any 3rd party software Basically I want to know if there's some hidden toggle for that in the OS somewhere and that anyone is aware of it.

  • Squid on Linux Windows Pass through authentication

    We are setting up a new proxy based on squid on an ubuntu server, and would like to have pass through authentication work for the Windows/Internet Explorer client. We have put the line into the squid.conf for squid_ldap_auth, but this prompts for a username and password in internet explorer. It does work ok once the user puts it in. Whats the 'best' (standard) way of using pass through authentication? Cheers Luke

    This is a usability problem that happens often to me : I open a read-only system file with vim, even editing it, because I'm not attentive enough, or because the vim on the system is badly configured. Once my changes are done, I'm stuck having to write them in a temporary file or loosing them, because :w! won't work. Is there a vim command (:W!!!) that allows you to write the current buffer as a super-user ? (Vim would ask for your sudo or su password naturally)

  • Deny login from certain hosts if logging in with specific sql credentials

    I want to stop some of our developers from connecting to the production sql server using a specific sql account. They have rights to connect through windows authentication with lower rights. They claim that changing the password will affect too many other processes running on our processing machine. So I want to deny access if they're connecting from there dev machines for now. Another way this would work is if I could just allow connections from one specific host.

    I am creating a PHP website on IIS8 that needs to connect to an SQL Server that is in the same Windows Domain as the IIS8. I am given a Windows Domain user account and asked to connect using its credentials. I am using sqlserv_connect() for PHP and I get the error Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON' Is there a way to run PHP + IIS8 as the windows domain user? Or MUST I configure SQL Server to use SQL Authentication mode so that I can supply a username and password?

  • Induce Mac graphical login from SSH

    The title says it all. Is there a way to make the loginwindow process start a user session by running a command when remotely logged in via SSH as an admin on Mac OS X? When the machine is at the login window (no user is currently logged in), I want it to open up a user's session as if I had clicked on the username and entered a password. Solutions that don't involve scripting the GUI are highly preferred, but this Apple KB page may be of interest for those who go that route.

    I'm trying to use msbuild/webdeploy with teamcity to deploy to IIS. However, I'm getting an ERROR_USER_UNAUTHORIZED error message and link pointing me to this page on iis.net. I'm using the Web Management Service to do this and I can verify that the username and password exist (I can log into the server with that combination), the site exists and the the user has IIS manager permissions: So what am I missing out?     I hear that Windows 8 Pro can use full disk encryption. I also understand that Win8 is targeting the "slate" / "tablet" form factor specifically. But all my previous experience with BitLocker requires you to put in some kind of PIN or password at boot time -- how can I do this without a (hardware) keyboard? This preview of an upcoming Win8 tablet mentions BitLocker but doesn't address the PIN issue. Am I missing something?

    I've wrote a simple batch file to connect to a specific VPN connection using RASDIAL rasdial MyVPNConnection but it always returned the error 691 Access denied because username and/or password is invalid on the domain. Remote Access Service (RAS) Error Code List then i tried pointing to my Remote Access Phonebook (Rasphone.pbk) and see what happens rasdial MyVPNConnection /phonebook:%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Pbk\rasphone.pbk and still there was an error 691. I've then unchecked the following but still the same problem was reported when executing my batch file.
