  • Querying Active Directory in ruby app on Windows box

    I have a small ruby app in which I'm trying to query some information from Active Directory. The app will be run by a Windows user who is already logged in. It looks like the ruby-net-ldap gem wants me to connect to an LDAP server using an IP address, port and then pass my username and password. Is there a way to achieve this (with a different gem, say) so that I don't have to pass this information (I don't have the current user's password for example, so that's not going to work)? I'm also hosting a Trac website on our intranet (which is written in Python if I remember correctly and that seems to know the current Windows username and domain. If it can do it, surely my little ruby app can access this information too?

  • Checking for uppercase/lowercase/numbers with Jquery

    Either I'm being really retarded here or its just the lack of sleep but why doesn't this work? If I use the "or" operator it works for each separate test but as soon as it change it to the "and" operator it stops working. I'm trying to test the password input of a form to see if its contains lowercase, uppercase and at least 1 number of symbol.   • Google Account ID?

    Hi, I am building an app on top of Google Reader. Since users have to enter their Google Account data, I'd like to use this data to assign personal settings to each user. However, if I do so and a user would change his email adress or password(for the whole Google Account), I wouldn't be able to identify him anymore. Thus, I need to know if there's a Google Account ID or something that I can use to identify users regardless of an email adress or password. Thanks for your help!

    Is it possible to create objects at designtime without having to have hard coded class definitions, then populate properties with primitives or even strongly typed data types? This might sound confusing, so I will attempt to give you a use case scenario. Use case: You have an XML config file that could hold configuration values for connecting to various systems in an SOA application. In C# the XML file is read, but for each system the configuration properties are different (e.g: SQL might have a connection string, while SharePoint might need a username + password + domain + url, while yet an smtp server would need username + password + port + url) So instead of creating static classes as follows public class SharePointConfiguration or public class SQLConfiguration, then have each class with custom properties (this is cumbersome) or using a 1990's method, an arrayList or some named collection Is there not a more preferred way to achieve this? Taking advantage of new language features, that can still offer design time intellisense, which would make the code easier to maintain and less prone to error. Thanks

  • Linking two models in a multi-model form

    Hey Guys, I have a nested multimodel form right now, using Users and Profiles. Users has_one profile, and Profile belongs_to Users. When the form is submitted, a new user is created, and a new profile is created, but they are not linked (this is the first obvious issue). The user's model has a profile_id row, and the profile's model has a user_id row. Can I detect a special dialing sequence, like *1234#? Or a hotkey combination? When activated, I guess I can pop up an anonymous screen which does not mention the app, but only asks for a password.   • User management with aspnet membership provider

    Hi guys, Just a general question really. I have taken on the management of an application written in C# MVC that uses the asp.net membership api. With this a user can register, change their password, etc. My application consists of two areas, administrator and user. This adminstrator's area has lots of custom admin functionality relating to the application, however has no functionality utilizing the membership api. I want to be able to use the membership api for user management functions such as resetting a password of a user who has forgotten theirs, lock users out, etc. Are there any resources or articles out there that delve into this aspect of using the membership api?   • VisualSVN Server + Trac Authentication Problems

    I have Trac set up on my VisualSVN server (using Subversion authentication), however every time I navigate to the Trac home page after opening the browser, I get the basic authentication dialog asking me for my username/password. What I would like to do is have a login form in Trac, which would allow me to log in forever using cookies. I have tried installing the AccountManagerPlugin, but I am completely unsure of how to correctly set it up. (I am used to working with IIS on corporate intranets, so this is kind of alien to me) I have managed to bypass the basic authentication dialog by setting this in my httpd-custom.conf: AuthName "Trac" AuthType Basic AuthBasicProvider file AuthUserFile "E:/Repositories/htpasswd" #Require valid-user I have tried using SvnServePasswordStore as my password store but I do not know which of the files in the repository directory to point it at.     We have been using Perl's Net:Twitter CPAN module (version 3.12) and basic authentication (not OAuth) for almost a year now to syndicate updates from our site to our Twitter account.     I'm using the Objectify library for interfacing with the app engine datastore. In my User class, I store the hashed password as a byte[]. When I put it in the datastore, it is correctly stored as a blob. When I try to load the User object back out I get this error: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Cannot load non-collection value '<Blob: 40 bytes>' into private byte[] How do I fix this? Do I have to change my User class to have the hashed password be of type ShortBlob?

  • Wordpress installed in root folder, subdomain now not working, GoDaddy host

    Hi, please forgive me for being a complete beginner at this, I'd rather not have to try to deal with this myself but as GoDaddy support have not replied after 2 days I'm going to have to. I think my problem is the same as the one above, but I'm not 100% sure, so I'm reposting it, I'm not really confident enough to attempt to try the fixes I've seen here so I need someone to give me baby instructions? Our original website (www.mwpics.com.au) was built in Dreamweaver etc, recently we created a new website in Wordpress, in a subdomain, then migrated it over to the root folder where it is now operating fine. I also moved the files for the old website into another directory which I called 'old', so they're all still there. The problem is that I have a subdomain set up - which is still showing as set up in the control panel on godaddy the url is www.mwpics.com.au/clients and it is at www.clients.mwpics.com.au. This directory contains loads of other directories, each of which is password protected by .htaccess files and which our clients access directly (not through the site) to download their finished work. The test one and the one for random clients is www.mwpics.com.au/clients/temp - username and password both temp (the usernames are all the same as the directory names). Since the WP install to the root directory the /clients extension no longer works (it should bring up an information page which is an .html index page in the directory) and the /clients/name extensions no longer works - it goes back to the wp site with a 'not found' error message. Strangely it does bring up the box for the username and password, but when you enter it it just goes back to the 'not found' message. Someone told me it was the .htaccess file - so as an experiment, I renamed the .htaccess file in the root directory and then copied the .htaccess file from the old root files into the root directory, eureka! It worked - and also the WP site opened to the home page... but bummer - the /pages in the WP site now no longer worked! But at least I know the source of the problem. So I switched it back and this is the status quo - I have no idea how to fix this, and with everyone back at work tomorrow, clients are going to want to start downloading their stuff... Can anyone help me? I'm starting to panic a bit

    Good afternoon, I'm sorry that this isn't a programming question specifically, but stackoverflow has been great at answering questions in the past, so I thought I'd give it a shot. One of our Linux users attempted to install Cygwin on our Windows Server 2008 Domain Controller. Now it is no longer possible to browse the domain and see all of the computers. For example, \\my_domain_name will just bring up a username/password dialog box (that will not accept any username or password, even the domain administrator) and no computers will ever be listed. However, I can still connect to computers based on their name or IP address. So \\eridanus or \\192.168.1.85 still work to connect to the shared directories of computers on our network.
