Why doesn't this html/css work in ie?

I am just trying to center a div on the page. It works in chrome but in i.e. the div is still on the left: <html> <head></head> <body> <div id="container" style="margin:0 auto; width:200px;"> test </div> </body> </html> Everything I've read has said that to center a block element, simply add margin:0 auto and specify a width, so I don't know why this isn't working. How to Store Cookies in Ruby?

I am programmatcally accessing authenticated content in my CDN on Google App Engine, and it's returning a cookie that I'm supposed to store: {"set-cookie"=>"ACSID=cookie-hash; expires=Mon, 12-Apr-2010 01:56:06 GMT; path=/"} What do I do with that? This is my first time dealing with Cookies. I can put in the header of the next request, but what's the recommended way to store that? I'm testing this with irb in the console and when I exit and try again, the cookie is gone. How do I save it for a few days/weeks? I'm using pure ruby without Rails or anything. Thanks so much.

Silly Objective-C inheritance problem when using property

I've been scratching my head with this for a couple of hours - I haven't used inheritance much. Here I have set up a simple Test B class that inherits from Test A, where an ivar is declared. But I get the compilation error that the variable is undeclared. This only happens when I add the property and synthesize declarations - works fine without them. C++ Mock/Test boost::asio::io_stream - based Asynch Handler

I've recently returned to C/C++ after years of C#. During those years I've found the value of Mocking and Unit testing. Finding resources for Mocks and Units tests in C# is trivial. WRT Mocking, not so much with C++. I would like some guidance on what others do to mock and test Asynch io_service handlers with boost. For instance, in C# I would use a MemoryStream to mock an IO.Stream, and am assuming this is the path I should take here. iTunes Connect: Excluding iPad From Supported Devices

I have just uploaded my first app to iTunes Connect and noticed that my list of supported devices is appearing as follows... Device Requirements : Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. I've developed specifically for the iPhone and iPod Touch and have not yet done any testing on the iPad simulator. I therefore don't want the app submission testers to try running my app on an iPad and rejecting it because of some minor issue. I've looked at setting the required device capabilities in my info.plist, but that doesn't appear to allow me to restrict at a device level. Is this a by-product of building using the 3.1.3 SDK? Are apps built using this SDK automatically upscaled to work on the iPad?

App logicstics & changes due to scope creep

I started an app that was initially a testing platform--user management, and managers that can view their employees tests. Recently, functionality has been extended (not built yet) to allow users to complete a test in place of an employee--basically adding a record, but no user. I have three tables in use for this: users(contains user info for login/security), profiles (all personal info: address, height, etc.), and survey (contains survey answers for user). How do I extend my application to encompass this functionality with minimal change to the structure? I assume that the best way to do this would be to insert records to the tables profiles and survey, and have no username/password/email? There MUST be a user_id associated b/c the tables are linked through the user_ids...

Coldfusion returning typed objects / AMF remoting

Is the same possible in ColdFusion? Currently I am using .Net/Fluorine to return objects to the client. Whilst in testing I like to pass strings representing the select statement and the custom object I wish to have returned from my service. Fluorine has a class ASObject to which you can set the var 'typeName'; which works great. I am hoping that this is possible in Coldfusion. Does anyone know whether you can set the type of the returned object in a similar way. iPhone Push Notification Reliablity

How reliable do you find push notification on the iPhone to be? Does it improve when moving from the sandbox to production server? I am testing (with the sandbox of course) and have found that notifications are often delayed or not received at all. I am not talking about sending multiple messages and only the last one arriving, as the documentation indicates, but any notification never showing up. Also, I noticed that if I send a notification with an alert, and then send one with just a badge number, that the second notification will close the alert even after it's already opened. Does this happen between apps as well? For instance, if I send an alert for my app, and then the Facebook app sends a badge, will the Facebook badge close my alert window?

Override Java System.currentTimeMillis

Is there a way, either in code or with JVM arguments, to override the current time, as presented via System.currentTimeMillis, other than manually changing the system clock on the host machine? A little background: We have a system that runs a number of accounting jobs that revolve much of their logic around the current date (ie 1st of the month, 1st of the year, etc) Unfortunately, a lot of the legacy code calls functions such as new Date() or Calendar.getInstance(), both of which eventually call down to System.currentTimeMillis. For testing purposes, right now, we are stuck with manually updating the system clock to manipulate what time and date the code thinks that the test is being run. So my question is: Is there a way to override what is returned by System.currentTimeMillis? For example, to tell the JVM to automatically add or subtract some offset before returning from that method? Thanks in advance!

How can I compare Core Data models?

I noticed while doing system testing that a feature of our app had been removed. It looks like at some point, an older version of a file was checked into SVN that was missing a property. This specific file was generated from the Core Data model, and sure enough, the latest version of the model in SVN is missing the same attribute. I need to find out if any other attributes are missing, or if anything else in the model changed. However, the elements file in the .xcodedatamodel folder appears to binary and I can't compare the revisions. Is there a way to find the differences between two Core Data models in SVN? Barring that, what would be the best way to accomplish this task?

How can one use the "Add view" dialog in Visual Studio efficiently when working with ASP.NET MVC?

Does anyone else think that the add view dialog in VS is useless or is it just me? Why is there no search/filtering in there? I can not even paste the type name (without namespace) there to speed up the view creation. Plus, there are a lot of irrelevant classes there, including classes from all referenced libraries. Am I missing something or Microsoft never did any usability testing with that?? Is it possible to filter out types/assemblies in the dialog and/or better navigation compared to manually scrolling the combobox with all the types listed? Is it possible to include only types from a particular directory/assembly/namespace? (the ViewModels namespace for example) EDIT: As it seems from the answers that there is no usable workaround for this, I have filed a suggestion at Connect: https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=507784 Please vote for the suggestion if you find this is an important issue.

How do I stop Safari from caching my Servlet response?

I'm having trouble testing a web app with Safari. My app returns wave audio data. The problem happens when I change the application and hit it again from Safari. Safari caches the original response so no matter how many times I hit refresh it seems like I've not updated anything. I can almost get around this using force refresh with Firefox but because I'm having trouble generating the wave headers using the javax.sound API Firefox only plays the first second of audio returned. A few weeks ago I tried setting the HTTP header in my servlet to prevent caching but I don't think I was setting it correctly. (What is the header for browser cache control?) This is becoming a real pain and I'm looking for any ideas, comments, or alternative approaches. I'm getting ready to try again but I figured I'd ask here in the interim to see if someone can provide help.

Multi-process builds in Visual Studio 2010: Worth it?

I've started testing our C++ software with VS2010 and the build times are really bad (30-45 minutes, about double the VS2005 times). I've been reading about the /MP switch for multi-process compilation. Unfortunately, it is incompatible with some features that we use quite a bit like #import, incremental compilation, and precompiled headers. Have you had a similar project where you tried the /MP switch after turning off things like precompiled headers? Did you get faster builds? My machine is running 64-bit Windows 7 on a 4 core machine with 4 GB of RAM and a fast SSD storage. Virus scanner disabled and a pretty minimal software environment.

I am developing an Excel addin that has an udf and calls it as a worksheet function. It is a com addin where I am using the IDTExtensibility2 interface and set the class interface type as autodual and then shim it as in the link http://blogs.msdn.com/andreww/archive/2006/07/23/excel-interop-types-in-shimmed-automation-add-ins.aspx Things work fine in my development machine but I am having a tough time packaging the assembly. The addin registers but the formula does not appear in the formula bar of Excel after the installation. Can someone help me with the right way to get it done ? My situation is that I have agreed on a per-project proposal with the client. The proposal is vague, but still names functionality in a way that can be argued as to whether it's included or not, while leaving some room for interpretation. I originally pressed as much as I could to get a per-month contract, arguing that the project is mostly non-predictable, but the client refused. Being a small company, I had to fold and signed a contract on an estimate based on my group's estimations. At this point we have reached completion on about 85% of the features (we think) but we ran out of budget. We have been working for almost two years with this client in previous contracts, and we have delivered a good product that they are happy with, so we have a good standing relationship. More info: -There has been a bit of scope-creep, but I don't think enough for me to hide behind that argument -We've been delivering partial releases about monthly. -We don't have systematic user-testing in place.

Can I create a collection in Scala that uses different equals/hashCode/compare implementations?

I'm looking for as simple way to create an identity set. I just want to be able to keep track of whether or not I've "seen" a particular object while traversing a graph. I can't use a regular Set because Set uses "==" (the equals method in Scala) to compare elements. What I want is a Set that uses "eq." Is there any way to create a Set in Scala that uses some application-specified method for testing equality rather than calling equals on the set elements? I looked for some kind of "wrapEquals" method that I could override but did not find it. I know that I could use Java's IdentityHashMap, but I'm looking for something more general-purpose. Another idea I had was to just wrap each set element in another object that implements equals in terms of eq, but it's wasteful to generate tons of new objects just to get a new equals implementation. Google's OpenID identifier is different depending on the "consumer" domain name. How to avoid potent

I'm currently testing an OpenID implementation, and I'm noticing that Google sends a different identifier for different consuming host name / domain name, even for the same user. For example, Google sends a different identifier when the requesting site is localhost, compared to the identifier they send when the requesting site is 127.0.0.1 for the same user. Note: I haven't actually tested this using public domain names, but I can't see why the behavior would be any different. My concern with Google's behavior is that if we ever choose to change our website domain name in the future, then users will no longer be able to log in to the website using Google's OpenId as the identity provider. This seems to be a big problem. Am I missing something, or are all OpenID consuming sites faced with this potential problem? I've also tested this with MyOpenId, but the identifier that MyOpenId creates is fixed, so this wouldn't be a problem with them. Thanks.

Getting progress status out of a class library method

This app that I am doing uses a class library (if I dare call it that) to do the bulk of the work: 2 main methods in there (DoWork and UndoWork) use the other classes to achieve thier goal. Now that that works, I want to get out of the Console test enviroment and do a GUI. How would I get the status of say, the DoWork() method to update a progress bar? Should I multilate the class library (which currently works with the Console and Windows.Forms) to update? The problem with that is that I would surely have to make the class library use Window.Forms which will mess up the console testing apps (And there are lots of them - I tested all the way through, and then all together). Could you suggest some ideas, or places I can read up about ideas (the whole point of writing this this program is to learn, afer all)? Oh, by the way, suggestions like "foresight" or "planning" probably won't help here...(now, anywyay!) - But certainly will in future projects!

Hi, I was doing my academic project and while building and testing i have put many println() statements. But when I had to submit all prints should not be displayed. Can i implement something like listener which will be invoked when System.out is tried to be executed and prevents it from displaying. I dont know how feasible this idea is but just want to know whether its possible or not. I know i could have used a log file or write into a file but again its just a thought came into my mind if I have to disable SOP how can i do it .. thanks
