  • Installation of 11.10 on new drive (no OS)

    I have a Dell Dimension 600 XPS Phoenix BIOS version A03, the original HD crashed and burned. Dell didn't send OS disks (was on the original drive and no back up disks), so I am trying to install Ubuntu 11.10 on the new drive. The new drive is a Western Digital 1TB. I formatted the new drive by putting it in an enclosure and formatting it with Windows 7 on my HP system. When I put the cd in the cdrom it boots to the cd with the Advanced user screen (won't boot into the usually Windows GUI). When I try to install (or run from live Cd) I get the same error message. Same with trying the various boot options. The message is: VFS: cannot open root device "(NULL)" or unknown-block(8,1) Please append a correct "root=" boot option: Here are the available partitions: Kernal Panic- not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount rootfs on unknown-block(8,1) and then it lists Trace messages then freezing. Any help or suggestions are appreciated in advance.

    I have a groovy/grails application that needs to serve images It works fine on my dev box, the image is returned properly. Here's the start of the returned JPEG, as seen by od -cx 0000000 377 330 377 340 \0 020 J F I F \0 001 001 001 001 , d8ff e0ff 1000 464a 4649 0100 0101 2c01 but on the production box, there's some garbage in front, and the d8ff e0ff before the 1000 is missing 0000000 ? ** ** ? ** ** ? ** ** ? ** ** \0 020 J F bfef efbd bdbf bfef efbd bdbf 1000 464a 0000020 I F \0 001 001 001 \0 H \0 H \0 \0 ? ** ** ? 4649 0100 0101 4800 4800 0000 bfef efbd It's the exact same code. I just moved the .war over and run it on a different machine. (Isn't Java supposed to be write once, run everywhere?) Any ideas? An "encoding" problem?   • Mac dashboard widgets not loading external images

    I set out to make a quick Mac OS X dashboard widget. I read the documentation and was pleased to find out they use simple HTML, JS, and CSS. I created my widget and it works when I open the .html file in Firefox, but it does not work when I install the widget to the dashboard. The widget is simple: it displays the most recent image from a weather web cam stream. The image URLs look like this: http://webcam.com/stream.jpg?1274213999617. The timestamp is appended to the URL and the server automatically responds with the latest image for that time. I did not write the server script. The widget appears to be loading correctly, but the web cam image will not load. Notice the blue question mark in the upper left. The image should appear over the square background image. Is there any special procedure for loading external images into a widget?

  • Jquery cross-fade rollover problems in IE7

    I built some cross fade rollovers in IE7 using this single image technique: http://jqueryfordesigners.com/image-cross-fade-transition/ It works by placing the rollover image in the background and fading the original image state when the user rollovers the image. IE7 hates it. The rollover state shows up directly below the original image. You can check it out here: http://hardtopdepot.com/dev/inner.html It should be pretty obvious in IE7 but the add to cart buttons are suppossed to be Jquery rollovers. I am by no means a JS expert so Im not sure how to go about solving this problem, any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks-

    First of all i am a newbie to Ubuntu Linux and have been trying to install and compile FFMPEG on an Ubuntu machine... I am trying to compile FFMPEG on an Ubuntu machine, using the following link reference: https://ffmpeg.org/trac/ffmpeg/wiki/UbuntuCompilationGuide I have already install git packages from resource centre whatever it results in search...   • Error installing Windows7 64 bits on VirtualBox

    I am trying to set up Windows in Virtual Box, so I don't need to reboot in the rare occasion that I actually need it. The problem is, Virtual Box doesn't preform any errors when I insert the 32bit installation CD but when I try to use the 64bit installation; What!? I am already using the installation disc! I've checked my BIOS to see if I have SVM (AMD's version of VT) disabled and all I see is "Enabled" I have a K9N6PGM2-V2 motherboard A Triple Core AMD Athlon II A Nvdia NForce 430 integrated graphics card 4GB of RAM An 80GB IDE And a 1TB SATA I don't think the last three specifications matter but just in case XP I am pretty sure the CD isn't broken ( I am going to make sure in just a moment ), what could be the cause to this problem? Edit: The 64bit installation CD is not broken, but I found out when trying to install from the 32bit version that it's trying to upgrade, not preform a fresh install - Odd.

Is there like a then command ? so it does 1. then 2. then 3. ? Could someone please help out :) So I tried this: so I did this: @reboot screen -dmS minecraft @reboot cd /home/admin/vivalaminecraft.com @reboot mono McMyAdmin.exe It still doesn't work. The screen is created but it doesn't have the mono execution in it I put this in it #!/bin/bash screen -dmS minecraft; cd /home/admin/vivalaminecraft.com; mono McMyAdmin.exe; is this correct?

    I have a beautiful 27" iMac. I would like to run Ubuntu on it natively, dual-booting with OS X. I have rEFIt installed, and I can boot into the Ubuntu 10.10 CD, kind of. Here's what happens: I select the CD from the rEFIt menu It loads for a while, then flashes up an aubergine screen with a very low-res picture of a human, an arrow and a keyboard It sits there for a while It changes to 80x25 console mode The screen then goes black, as if nothing is displaying to it All the while, the CD is churning away as if something is reading from it. What do I do?

  • Python Imaging: YCbCr problems

    Hi, I'm doing some image processing in Python using PIL, I need to extract the luminance layer from a series of images, and do some processing on that using numpy, then put the edited luminance layer back into the image and save it. The problem is, I can't seem to get any meaningful representation of my Image in a YCbCr format, or at least I don't understand what PIL is giving me in YCbCr. PIL documentation claims YCbCr format gives three channels, but when I grab the data out of the image using np.asarray, I get 4 channels. Ok, so I figure one must be alpha. Here is some code I'm using to test this process: import Image as im import numpy as np pengIm = im.open("Data\\Test\\Penguins.bmp") yIm = pengIm.convert("YCbCr") testIm = np.asarray(yIm) grey = testIm[:,:,0] grey = grey.astype('uint8') greyIm = im.fromarray(grey, "L") greyIm.save("Data\\Test\\grey.bmp") I'm expecting a greyscale version of my image, but what I get is this jumbled up mess: http://i.imgur.com/zlhIh.png Can anybody explain to me where I'm going wrong? The same code in matlab works exactly as I expect.

    I know its possible to convert an image to CS_GRAY using public static BufferedImage getGrayBufferedImage(BufferedImage image) { BufferedImageOp op = new ColorConvertOp(ColorSpace .getInstance(ColorSpace.CS_GRAY), null); BufferedImage sourceImgGray = op.filter(image, null); return sourceImgGray; } however, this is a chokepoint of my entire program. I need to do this often, on 800x600 pixel images and takes about 200-300ms for this operation to complete, on average. I know I can do this alot faster by using one for loop to loop through the image data and set it right away. The code above on the other hand constructs a brand new 800x600 BufferedImage that is gray scale. I would rather just transform the image I pass in. Does any one know how to do this with a for loop and given that the image is RGB color space?

  • Is there a way to import or convert vmware player images to run on xen?

    It's fairly popular for companies offering a quick way to test their product to give you a vmware player image. I don't run VMWare though, I run Xen exclusively. Most of these images (and the one I'm interested right this moment particularly) are linux images. Is there a way to use this image with Xen? Obviously, I could setup player long enough to boot the image, then move the data out of the image to a Xen image, but I'm hoping for something easier and quicker than that...preferably that doesn't require setting up a box to run player than can run this image.

Into the FAQ on the official site you can also view that, for the future, Oracle plans to fully integrate Virtual Iron technology into Oracle VM products, and any enhancements will be delivered as a part of the combined solution; this is what is going on with Oracle VM 3.x. So, customers started asking us to migrate Virtual Iron guests to Oracle VM. IMPORTANT: This procedure needs a dedicated OVM-Server with no-guests running on top; be careful while execute this procedure on production environments. In these little steps you will find how-to migrate, as fast as possible, your guests between VI ( Virtual Iron ) and Oracle VM; keep in mind that OracleVM has a built-in P2V utility ( Official Documentation )  that you can use to migrate guests between VI and Oracle VM.   • I don't have permission to access other drives

    After messing with the user accounts & names, I found I can't access my external drives without using sudo. So when I access one normally with cd "/media/john/FreeAgent Drive" I receive bash: cd: /media/john/FreeAgent Drive: Permission denied However, using sudo: sudo cd /media/john sudo ls -l It gives: drwx------ 1 john john 20480 Sep 24 10:45 FreeAgent Drive/ And id returns uid=1003(john) gid=1003(john) groups=1003(john), ... So I'm interpreting this is as "you are john, only john can access this drive, however, you cannot access this drive." I have tried sudo chown john:john "FreeAgent Drive" and sudo chmod o+rw "john/FreeAgent Drive"but I still can't access it.

  • Bitmap in ImageView is cropped off the screen

    I'm working on an Android application that needs to download an image and display it inside an image view. The Bitmap is passed to the main java file and added to the image view like this: comic = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.comic); comic.setImageBitmap(c.getImageBitmap()); This works, except that the left side of the image disappears off the screen. The ImageView is in a ScrollView and the scroll view maintains the correct size. This means that there is black space to the right in the ScrollView and the image is cut off to the left. The XML for the ImageView is this: <ScrollView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" Any idea why my image is being cut off? Thanks!

  • Deleted entire harddisk. Now my laptop won't boot anything and stuck at grub rescue!

    My laptop is Dell Inspiron N4030. I used to use Ubuntu 12.04 and it was on the entire hard drive. I tried to install windows 7 but my laptop couldn't install it. So, I decided to delete the entire hard drive and do a fresh install of Windows 7. But after deletion I immediately removed the gparted live usb which I was using to delete the partitions of my hard drive. And then tried booting from windows 7 cd, didn't work, tried ubuntu live cd, didn't work, tried hiren's boot cd, didn't work, tried super grub disk, didn't work. Probably I'm not doing it right. Help needed badly.

    <input src="LOGO.JPG" type="image" name="imagem"> I have an xml element that contains the image path that needs to be displayed in HTML after the parse. <xsl:value-of select="image"/> returns the string that is stored in the image element but how can I use it to make that string be the src atribute value in an html tag? I tried <input src="<xsl:value-of select="image"/>" type="image" name="imagem"> but obviously that doesn't work so how can it be done? I hope I was clear in my question. Please help!

I don't want that the entire cell is selectable, I want a user can tap on "username" to see a new view that show username information. The same for image, when user tap on image, he could see the image in a new view. Now I can only select my entire cell. How can I implement something like this? Thanks.     I am trying to workaround CORS restriction on a WebGL application. I have a Web Service which resolves URL and returns images. Since this web service is not CORS enabled, I can't use the returned images as textures. I was planning to: Write a PHP script to handle image requests Image requests would be sent through the query string as a url parameter The PHP Script will: Call the web service with the query string url Fetch the image response (web service returns a content-type:image response) Add the CORS header (Add Access-Control-Allow-Origin) to the response Send the response to the browser I tried to implement this using a variety of techniques including CURL, HTTPResponse, plain var_dump etc. but got stuck at some point in each. So I have 2 questions: Is the approach good enough? Considering the approach is good enough: I made the most progress with CURL. I could get the image header and data with: $ch = curl_init(); $url = $_GET["url"]; curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $url); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HEADER, true); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HTTPHEADER, array('Content-Type:image/jpeg')); //Execute request $response = curl_exec($ch); //get the default response headers $headers = curl_getinfo($ch); //close connection curl_close($ch); But this doesn't actually change set the response content-type to image/jpeg. It dumps the header + response into a new response of content-type text/html and display the header and the image BLOB data in the browser. How do I get it to send the response in the format I want? How do I insert an image with Make Text in Image Searchable enabled, or how do I enable this property after the image is imported. I have already imported a lot of images. How to I make the existing imported images searchable? I already know how to do this manually by right clicking the image and setting the language. The OCR works fine, I just need to do it automatically.

The strange problem is that if i will write image (bmp) to disk and then load (cv.LoadImage) it it renders fine, but when i try to load image from StringIO and convert it to IplImage, it turns video to blue.
