Btw, I did test with a telnet, but when I enter www.example.org, which I redirected to example.org (without the www), all I can see is an "200 OK", I don't get to see the 301.

    I'm using the app "Fiddler" to debug a GET attempt to a website via PHP cURL. Unfortunately, by changing this setting I now get a Response of: HTTP/1.1 502 Connection failed Edit: If it helps, the app "Charles" shows me WAY more information than Fiddler, but I really want to figure out Fiddler since I like it better.

  • How to create a rails staging environment in engineyard?

    I have a production instance in engineyard up and running well. I would like to create a new staging instance for internal testing. I cloned the existing production instance, changed Framework Environment to staging. I can deploy all the code to staging instance from Github. Engineyard reported the server is fully configured and ready. I have subdomain-fu in my Rails app, as I have some subdomain handling in my app. I set the subdomain initializer like this.... SubdomainFu.tld_sizes = {:development => 1, :test => 0, :production => 1, :staging => 2} As the production instance is using the domain xxxxx.com, I would like my staging instance use the domain staging.xxxxx.com. But I got an error when open this domain. Seems the app use xxxxx.com as domain but not the staging.xxxxx.com. I checked the engineyard database.yml. It use xxxxx_production database, I supposed it should be xxxxx_staging. Seems the engineyard instance is not set to staging environment, but just clone all the setting from production server. Does anyone have experience with this and can show me the way on how to fix it? Thanks. :)

  • Auto switching databases from a rails app gracefully from the ApplicationController?

    I've seen this post a few times, but haven't really found the answer to this specific question. I'd like to run a rails application that based on the detected request.host (imagine I have two subdomains points to the same rails app and server ip address: myapp1.domain.com and myapp2.domain.com). I'm trying to have myapp1 use the default "production" database, and myapp2 requests always use the alternative remote database. Here is an example of what I tried to do in Application controller that did not work: class ApplicationController < ActionController::Base helper :all before_filter :use_alternate_db private def use_alternate_db if request.host == 'myapp1.domain.com' regular_db elsif request.host == 'myapp2.domain.com' alternate_db end end def regular_db ActiveRecord::Base.establish_connection :production end def alternate_db ActiveRecord::Base.establish_connection( :adapter => 'mysql', :host => '...', :username => '...', :password => '...', :database => 'alternatedb' ) end end The problem is when it switches databases using this method, all connections (including valid sessions across the different subdomains get interrupted...). All examples online have people controlling database connectivity at the model level, but this would involve adding code all over my application. Is there some way to globally switch database connections on a per-request basis in the manner I'm suggesting above WITHOUT having to inject code all over my application? The added complexity here is I'm using Heroku as a hosting provider, so I have no control at the apache / rails application server level. I have looked at solutions like dbcharmer and magicmodels, but none seem to show examples of doing it in the manner that I'm trying to. Thanks for any help!

Student has a list of courses he attends, also he has a list of properties, that is all for this student. Next, Course entitity. It may contain a list of students that attend it. But in fact, the whole structure looks like this: the starting point is Student, with it's PK we can look a list of his properties, then we look into the STUDENT_COURSE and extract both FK of the Course entity and also the Status of the combination, it would look like "Student named bla bla, with all his properties, attends math and the status of it is "ACTIVE". now, quotation 1) Each DAO instance is responsible for one primary domain object or entity. If a domain object has an independent lifecycle, it should have its own DAO. 2) The DAO is responsible for creations, reads (by primary key), updates, and deletions -- that is, CRUD -- on the domain object. Now, first question is What are entities in my case? Student, Course, Student_Course, Status = all except for StudentProperties? Do I have to create a separate DAO for every object?

  • jQuery/Ajax with Zend Framework

    I've been tinkering around with Zend-Framework and Jquery for a month or so, and finally started tinkering with them together using ZendX_JQuery. It seems I've ran into something that at first seemed it should be simple, So maybe I'm just missing something here. I have a view along the lines of: $this->ajaxLink( $this->escape($var->title), $this->baseUrl() . "/another/action", array('update' => '#domain' . $var->id , 'complete' => '$("#domain' . $var->id .'").toggle("slow");')); echo '<div id="domain"' . $var->id . '" style="display:none;" ></div>'; Which works correctly, when the link displayed by the code above is clicked it loads the contents returned from /another/action into the domain"id" div. The problem occurs when the view loaded by the above contains an ajaxLink() the ajax link stops working. This can be fixed by adding an option to the ajaxLink() array "inline" = true but what if I need other JQuery views helpers to work when loaded into the page via ajax i.e. dialogContainer() I guess I could simply be asking how to control where zendx jquery helper puts java script. by default it is trying to put all statments in the <head> section in a single <script> tag. I need away around that for views displayed from an ajax call. Does Dojo try and force all php rendered javascript/ajax into the head also? Thanks.

  • What do I need to do to make a WPF Browser Application (XBAP) that requires Full Trust work on Windo

    So this is a Visual Studio 2008, .NET, WPF, XBAP, Windows 7 question, regarding .NET trust policies. At work, we have several Web Browser Applications (.XBAP files) developed with Visual Studio 2008 (so .NET 3.5) that we deployed internally. These required a .NET FullTrust policy, we found a way to make a .MSI that adjusted the policy on individual stations, everything worked great. Users love in-browser apps. This was last year and on Windows XP. This year our company started upgrading users to Windows 7, and now none of our Web Browser Applications work. The error message is "Trust Not Granted", as if the policy-changing .MSI had not been run. Other details: I can confirm that our apps work on Windows XP for Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox, and do not work on Windows 7 for Internet Explorer 8 nor Firefox. I must admit that .NET security policies mystify me. Still, I could not find any mention of this problem on the Net at large or on this site. Did anybody else encounter this problem? Any and all help welcome.

    Hello! I am writing a addressbook module for my software right now. I have the database set up so far that it supports a very flexible address-book configuration. I can create n-entries for every type I want. Type means here data like 'email', 'address', 'telephone' etc. I have a table named 'contact_profiles'. This only has two columns: id Primary key date_created DATETIME And then there is a table called contact_attributes. This one is a little more complex: id PK #profile (Foreign key to contact_profiles.id) type VARCHAR describing the type of the entry (name, email, phone, fax, website, ...) I should probably change this to a SET later. value Text (containing the value for the attribute). I can now link to these profiles, for example from my user's table. But from here I run into problems. At the moment I would have to create a JOIN for each value that I want to retrieve. Is there a possibility to somehow create a View, that gives me a result with the type's as columns? So right now I would get something like #profile type value 1 email [email protected] 1 name Sebastian Hoitz 1 website domain.tld But it would be nice to get a result like this: #profile email name website 1 [email protected] Sebastian Hoitz domain.tld The reason I do not want to create the table layout like this initially is, that there might always be things to add and I want to be able to have multiple attributes of the same type.   • What AOP tools exist for doing aspect-oriented programming at the assembly language level against x8

    Looking for a tool I can use to do aspect-oriented programming at the assembly language level. For experimentation purposes, I would like the code weaver to operate native application level executable and dynamic link libraries. I have already done object-oriented AOP. I know assembly language for x86 and so forth. I would like to be able to do logging and other sorts of things using the familiar before/after/around constructs. I would like to be able to specify certain instructions or sequences/patterns of consecutive instructions as what to do a pointcut on since assembly/machine language is not exactly the most semantically rich computer language on the planet. If debugger and linker symbols are available, naturally, I would like to be able to use them to identify subroutines' entry points , branch/call/jump target addresses, symbolic data addresses, etc. I would like the ability to send notifications out to other diagnostic tools. Thus, support for sending data through connection-oriented sockets and datagrams is highly desirable. So is normal logging to files, UI, etc. This can be done using the action part of an aspect to make a function call, but then there are portability issues so the tool needs to support a flexible, well-abstracted logging/notifying mechanism with a clean, simple yet flexible. The goal is rapid-QA. The idea is to be able to share aspect source code braodly within communties as well as publicly. So, there needs to be a declarative security policy file that users can share. This insures that nothing untoward that is hidden directly or indirectly in an aspect source file slips by the execution manager. The policy file format needs to be simple to read, write, modify, understand, type-in, edit, and generate. Sort of like Java .policy files. Think the exact opposite of anything resembling XML Schema files and you get the idea. Is there such a tool in existence already?

  • Connecting to a network drive programmatically and caching credentials

    I'm finally set up to be able to work from home via VPN (using Shrew as a client), and I only have one annoyance. We use some batch files to upload config files to a network drive. Works fine from work, and from my team lead's laptop, but both of those machines are on the domain. My home system is not, and won't be, so when I run the batch file, I get a ton of "invalid drive" errors because I'm not a domain user. The solution I've found so far is to make a batch file with the following: explorer \\MACHINE1 explorer \\MACHINE2 explorer \\MACHINE3 Then manually login to each machine using my domain credentials as they pop up. Unfortunately, there are around 10 machines I may need to use, and it's a pain to keep entering the password if I missed one that a batch file requires. I'm looking into using the answer to this question to make a little C# app that'll take the login info once and login programmatically. Will the authentication be shared automatically with Explorer, or is there anything special I need to do? If it does work, how long are the credentials cached? Is there an app that does something like this automatically? Unfortunately, domain authentication via the VPN isn't an option, according to our admin. EDIT: If there's a way to pass login info to Explorer via the command line, that would be even easier using Ruby and highline.

  • How much business logic belongs in RIA services layer?

    I have been experimenting recently with Silverlight, RIA Services, and Entity Framework using .NET 4.0. I'm trying to figure out if that stack makes sense for use in any of my upcoming projects. It certainly seems like these technologies can be very productive for developing applications, but I'm struggling to decide how an application on top of this stack should be architected. The main issue I have is that in most of the demos I've seen most of the business logic ends up as DataAnnotations and custom validations in the RIA Services domain service class. This seems inappropriate to me. I view the domain service as basically a glorified web service that happens to make it easy to push information to the client. But most of what I've seen seems to orient the domain service as the main source of business logic in the application. So, my questions: What is the best location for business logic (rules, validations, behaviors, authorization) in an application using this stack? Are there any guidelines published at an architectural level for using this stack? My questions pertain to large, complex, and long-lived applications. Obviously for an application of only a few screens this is less of a concern. Edit: Another thing I meant to mention is that obviously you can make the domain service class stupid, but then you lose a lot of the automagic entity information (e.g. validations) being pushed to the client. And then if you lose that is there any point to using RIA services?

  • Wordpress Rewrite Redirect Failure

    I'm helping a friend recover from the mess outsourcing a wordpress website caused him (mistake #1) and I have this weird error. The hosting he is using appears to be redirecting www.domain.com to domain.com (NFI why) automatically which works fine in every browser except IE (i know right!). So adding the first redirect fixed that, until I added the permalink redirect. Now when IE goes to an old wordpress link like http://www.domain.com/?p=520 the redirect fails. RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / # Rewrite rule for wierd redirect issue RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.domain.com$ RewriteRule ^/?(.*)$ "http\:\/\/doman\.com\/$1" [R=301,L] # Rewrite Rule for Wordress Permalinks RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L] I tested this out with wget and it complains: ERROR: Redirection (301) without location. So it seems likely that IE is suffering from the same error (without the helpful error message). But I haven't a clue how to fix it. I am hoping that he will switch hosting companies but we will see. In the meantime any ideas?

  • Setting directory security to allow user and deny all

    I have winforms app, in which I need to access a secured directory. I'm using impersonation and create WindowsIdentity to access the folder. My problem is writing unit tests to test the directory security; I'd like to a write a code that creates a directory secured to only ONE user, which isn't the current user running the UT (or else the test would be worthless). I know how to add permissions to a certain user, but how can I deny the rest, including admins? (in case the user running the UT is an admin) (will this be a wise thing to do?) Basically I want to code this: <authorization> <allow users ="Domain\User" /> <deny users="*" /> </authorization> I was thinking about impersonating UT run with a weak user with no permissions, but this would result in: Impersonate - Run UT - Impersonate - Access folder, and I'm not sure if this is the right design.     I have been experimenting with various uses of hierarchies like this and the differences between absolute and relative imports, and can't figure out how to do routine things with the package, subpackages, and modules without simply putting everything on sys.path. I have a two-level package hierarchy: MyApp __init__.py Application __init__.py Module1 Module2 ... Domain __init__.py Module1 Module2 ... UI __init__.py Module1 Module2 ... I want to be able to do the following: Run test code in a Module's "if main" when the module imports from other modules in the same directory. Have one or more test code modules in each subpackage that runs unit tests on the modules in the subpackage. Have a set of unit tests that reside in someplace reasonable, but outside the subpackages, either in a sibling package, at the top-level package, or outside the top-level package (though all these might end up doing is running the tests in each subpackage) "Enter" the structure from any of the three subpackage levels, e.g. run code that just uses Domain modules, run code that just uses Application modules, but Application uses code from both Application and Domain modules, and run code from GUI uses code from both GUI and Application; for instance, Application test code would import Application modules but not Domain modules. After developing the bulk of the code without subpackages, continue developing and testing after organizing the modules into this hierarchy. I know how to use relative imports so that external code that puts MyApp on its sys.path can import MyApp, import any subpackages it wants, and import things from their modules, while the modules in each subpackage can import other modules from the same subpackage or from sibling packages. However, the development needs listed above seem incompatible with subpackage structuring -- in other words, I can't have it both ways: a well-structured multi-level package hierarchy used from the outside and also used from within, in particular for testing but also because modules from one design level (in particular the UI) should not import modules from a design level below the next one down. Sorry for the long essay, but I think it fairly represents the struggles a lot of people have been having adopting to the new relative import mechanisms.

    Reading up on CQRS there is a lot of talk of email notification - i'm wondering where to get the data from. Imagine a senario where one user invites other users to an event. To inform a user that he has been invitet to an event, he is send an email. The concrete mecanics might go like this: A "CreateEvent" command with an associated collection of user to invite, is received by the server. A new meeting aggregate is created and a method "InviteUser" is called for each user that is to be invited. Each time a user is invited to an event, a domain event "UserWasInvitedToEvent" is raised. An email notification sender picks up the domain event and sends out the notification email. Now my question is this: Where do i go for information to include in the email? Say i want to include a description of the event as well as the users name. Since this is CQRS i can't get it thru my domain model; All the properties of the domain objects are private! Should i then query the write side? Or maybe move email notification to a different service entirely? Any thoughts will be much appriciated!
