• PHP form validation function

  I am currently writing some PHP form validation (I have already validated clientside) and have some repetitive code that I think would work well in a nice little PHP function. However I have having trouble getting it to work. I'm sure it's just a matter of syntax but I just can't nail it down. Any help appreciated. //Validate phone number field to ensure 8 digits, no spaces. if(0 === preg_match("/^[0-9]{8}$/",$_POST['Phone']) { $errors['Phone'] = "Incorrect format for 'Phone'"; } if(!$errors) { //Do some stuff here.... } I found that I was writing the validation code a lot and I could save some time and some lines of code by creating a function. //Validate Function function validate($regex,$index,$message) { if(0 === preg_match($regex,$_POST[$index],$message) { $errors[$index] = $message; } And call it like so.... validate("/^[0-9]{8}$/","Phone","Incorrect format for Phone"); Can anyone see why this wouldn't work? Note I have disabled the client side validation while I work on this to try to trigger the error, so the value I am sending for 'Phone' is invalid.

• CakePHP "down for maintenance" page

  I found this post about how to create a "down for maintenance" page but I'm having some trouble getting it to work properly. define('MAINTENANCE', 1); if(MAINTENANCE > 0){ require('maintenance.php'); die(); } When I place this code in /webroot.index.php it works. However, the answer suggests adding an IP address check so that if it's down, I would still be able to view it and make sure any updates went through smoothly. So, it would look something like this define('MAINTENANCE', 0); if(MAINTENANCE > 0 && $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] !='188.YOUR.IP.HERE'){ require('maintenance.php'); die(); } The issue is, my IP address will NOT be detected by cake. I've typed echo $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] and it just shows ::1. I also tried using my user_id but I got the following error Class 'AuthComponent' not found in.... I tried /index.php and /App/index.php but the maintenance page wasn't triggered and the page loads normally.

• HTTP Error 403.18 - Forbidden - asp.net mvc web api

  I have deployed the default asp.net mvc 4 web api project to my windows server 2008 RC and am experiensing some issues with calling the web api actions. I'm quite new in the server/iis configuration part. I can open the home page, but the API part doesnt work. I'm getting such an error: HTTP Error 403.18 - Forbidden The specified request cannot be processed in the application pool that is configured for this resource on the Web server Module IIS Web Core Notification BeginRequest Handler StaticFile Error Code 0x00000000 Requested URL http://server.com:80/index.php?p=MvcApplication2_deploy/api/values/ Physical Path C:\Inetpub\vhosts\server.com\Webservice\index.php Logon Method Not yet determined Logon User Not yet determined I have checked Url Rewrite it is empty, have disabled WebDAV and also checked the Handler Mappings every thing seems to be ok there. Could any one give me some hints what could be wrong? Thanks!!!

• Redmine on Apache2 with Passenger issue

  I installed Redmine and run it in Apache2 with the Passenger module. Apache2 boots, Passenger module gets loaded and the Redmine welcome page is shown, however when trying to login or navigate to other parts of the Redmine site, the browser keeps loading and loading and loading forever, although the Redmine production.log indicates redirects and HTTP 200 codes in the header, so everything seems to work correctly according to the log. I tested in various browsers. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong? I will add apache configuration and some relevant log snippets from both apache and redmine hereafter. • tightvnc authentication failure

  When I run a tightvnc client to establish a VNC session I sometimes receive an error message that suggests there are repeated failed VNC login attempts or a brute force attack. The message dialog title is "unsupported security type" and the text content is "too many authentication failures, try another connection? yes/no". This problem goes away if I reboot the Ubuntu server and reload the VNC server program and try again. From that point, it will work for multiple VNC sessions. My VNC sessions are typically about 20 minutes. At some time in the future, the problem may recur so it seems correlated to the time the server has been up or the time tightvnc has been loaded. Typically it takes only a day or so before the problem comes back. I am using tightvnc 1.3 on an server running Ubuntu 12.04. The version of vncserver is rather dated because that seems to be all that is available from tightvnc for linux servers. On the client side I use the newest Java-based VNC client (version 2.5) for both Windows access and Ubuntu access. All my VNC sessions are via SSH. I am the only user and I will typically use only the same client computer. How can I stop this problem from recurring? Edit I found the log file. This is a small excerpt of what I am seeing. Essentially, various IPs, not my own, are attempting to connect. • Can't add client machine to windows server 2008 domain controller

  A bit of background before I dive into the gritty details: I have a single server running Windows 2003 Server where I host my ASP.net website and SQL Server + Reports. I've been creating ordinary windows user accounts to authenticate my users, and I enabled integrated windows authentication with impersonation. I've set up a bunch of user groups which correspond to certain roles (admin, power user, normal user, etc) and I test membership to enable or disable certain features. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the solution, it was quick to setup and I don't have to worry about messing around storing passwords and whatnot. Well, what I'm trying to do now is set up a new environment with 3 servers (Web, SQL, Reports) and I'd like these three servers to share common user accounts. I understand that I could add these three machines to a domain, which means installing Active Directory on one of the machines. I am barking up the wrong tree here? Would you suggest an alternative configuration? Assuming that I stick with AD, I have a couple of questions regarding DNS. To be honest, I'd rather not fiddle around with the DNS settings because my ISP already has their own DNS server which works just fine. It would appear however that DNS and AD are intertwined. Firstly, if I am to create a new domain in called mycompany.net, do I actually need to be the registered owner of that domain name and ensure the DNS entry points to the IP address of the machine hosting AD? Secondly, for the two other machines that I am trying to add to the domain, do I need to fiddle with their DNS settings? I've tried setting the preferred DNS Server IP address to that of my newly installed AD, but no luck. At this point, I can't add the two other machines to the domain. Here are some diagnostics that I have run based on a few suggestions I read on forums (sorry they're in French, although I could translate if needed). I ran nltest, which seems to indicate that the client can discover the domain controller. When I run dcdiag, the call to DsGetDcName fails with error 1722, not really sure what that means.   I have a Ubuntu server running in an ESV VM emvironment and I've installed a webserver with this configuration: Nginx 1.0.5 PHP 5.3.6 with PHP-FMP Mysql 5.1.62 I have an installation of latest version of joomla on this server and when I try to upload an install package (zip file containing joomla's extension files) I get "502 Bad Gateway" with the following error in nginx log file: 2012/05/13 11:22:21 [error] 19911#0: *20 upstream sent invalid status "-1 Copy failed" while reading response header from upstream, client: 10.10.56.70, server: localhost, request: "POST /administrator/index.php?option=com_installer&view=install HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://127.0.0.1:9000", host: "radio.xx.xx", referrer: "http://radio.xx.xx/administrator/index.php?option=com_installer" I've searched all over the internet and I've changed too many parameters of php configuration, fpm config and nginx config including increasing execution times and etc but my problem still remains. I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with my Joomla and problem is in webserver but there's no usable log messages, except above message. Can anyone help me with this problem?

The same problem causes also other apps to fail when installing, but I chose this one as a good representative example of my problem (and also it's provided by Microsoft, so "installation should work"). • 500 internal server error on certain page after a few hours

  I am getting a 500 Internal Server Error on a certain page of my site after a few hours of being up. I restart uWSGI instance with uwsgi --ini /home/metheuser/webapps/ers_portal/ers_portal_uwsgi.ini and it works again for a few hours. The rest of the site seems to be working. When I navigate to my_table, I am directed to the login page. But, I get the 500 error on my table page on login. I followed the instructions here to set up my nginx and uwsgi configs. That is, I have ers_portal_nginx.conf located i my app folder that is symlinked to /etc/nginx/conf.d/.   Say the user is making a request to the following url: "http://api.example.com/houses/123/abc" That request needs to map to "/webroot/index.php" and 'houses', '123', 'abc' need to be able to be parsed out of the URL in that index.php. It also can't alter the http headers or body. There can be any number of variables after the domain ie) "http://api.example.com/houses/1234/abc/zxy/987" I think I already have all requests being sent to webroot using: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteCond $0 !^webroot/ RewriteRule .* webroot/$0 [L] </IfModule> Which appears to be working but I am not sure if it is correct.   I'm using Supervisor and the uWSGI Emperor mode. When I set limit-as to 512 (MB), workers die instantly (respawn, die, respawn, die, every 3/4 of a second or so): [uwsgi] workers = 4 threads = 40 limit-as = 512 harakiri = 20 max-requests = 1600 ... non-performance/memory/processor-related settings ommitted But, if I change limit-as to: [uwsgi] workers = 4 threads = 40 limit-as = 1024 harakiri = 20 max-requests = 1600 ... non-performance/memory/processor-related settings ommitted and restart uwsgi, the problem is gone immediately. In order to put a sham in this, I've modified the setting back to 512, restarted again, and the problem is back immediately. Notes: My app is a simple Django app without much additional Python setup during start-up time.

  Why do my torrents go at rate 25/30 kb/s and my regular http downloads rate up to 300 kb/s .. is my ISP to blame for this, I meant torrents have like thousand seeders and again its very slow.How are they blocking torrent speed, can I bypass it? @gekkz Results : * There's no indication that your ISP rate limits all downloads at port 6881. • disparity between `top`'s given CPU % and process CPU usage total

  I've noticed that there are sometimes (large) differences between the reported total CPU usage and a summation of the per-process CPU utilization given by apps like top and wmtop. As an example: I recently ran a git filter-branch --index-filter on a fairly large repo, with the index-filter command piping git ls-files through a grep filter and into xargs git rm --cached. This took a few minutes to run; while it was going I noticed that both wmtop and top were displaying a high (above 50% on my 2-core machine) total CPU usage, but that neither showed any individual processes which were using a significant amount of CPU time. Are some processes not shown in the process list? What sorts of processes are these, and is there a way to find out how much CPU time they are using?

  I have a Debian Squeeze server running nginx + php-fpm + fastcgi. I have a typo3 installation on this server which runs well. No I installed OTRS and I get an error that I do not understand: 2012/06/25 15:35:38 [error] 16510#0: *34 FastCGI sent in stderr: "Access to the script '/opt/otrs/bin/fcgi-bin/index.pl' has been denied (see security.limit_extensions)" while reading response header from upstream, client: ..., server: support.....com, request: "GET /otrs/index.pl HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://127.0.0.1:9000", host: "support.....com", referrer: "http://support.....com/" Why do I get this error? The otrs directory is writable for the webserver, so this is not the problem. Any ideas?

• Find the source of malware?

  I have a server that was running an older version of lighttpd (1.4.19 on a freebsd 6.2-RELEASE (yea, old) machine) and google alerted me that it had found malware embedded on one of my server's pages. It just so happened to be our index page. I promptly removed the malware and started looking at server logs for how it got there. With no trace in any of the logs of the files being edited, I noticed that the index page's owner had been changed to www, which is the lighttpd user. I then concluded that some sort of veunerability must have existed for that software version and promptly upgraded to 1.4.26. Now the malware is back. I have started some pretty verbose server logging with ftp, lighttpd, and all login attempts to try and see how this script is getting in. Are their any suggestions as to other approaches to take?

  I tried setting up ZF2 on the GoDaddy shared servers, though it doesn't work. I tried to download it directly, and using the git composer (which I managed to install successfully on the server). I never worked with ZF1, and I know there are custom solution out there for ZF1, but I didn't manage to port them into ZF2.
