• Is there a max recommended size on bundling js/css files due to chunking or packet loss?

  So we all have heard that its good to bundle your javascript. Of course it is, but it seems to me that the story is too simple. See if my logic makes sense here. Obviously fewer HTTP requests is fewer round trips and hence better. However - and I don't know much about bare http - aren't http responses sent in chunks? And if a file is larger than one of those chunks doesn't it have to be downloaded as multiple (possibly synchronous?) round trips? As opposed to this, several requests for files just under the chunking size would arrive much quicker since modern web browsers download resources like javascripts in parallel. Even if chunking is not an issue, it seems like there would be some max recommended size just due to likelyhood of packet loss alone since a bundled file must wait till it is entirely downloaded to execute, versus the more lenient native rule that scripts must execute in order. Obviously there's also matters of browser caching and code volatility to consider but can someone confirm this or explain why I'm off base? Does anyone have any numbers to put to it?

QMessageBox m; m.setGeometry(QRect(100,180,100,50)); m.setText("close quote"); m.show(); m.exec(); when i remove the code of this message box , i can't see the animation anymore. the functionality of the program doesn't require showing this MessageBox at all. Can anybody help?

• How to start with entity framework and service oriented architecture?

  At work I need to create a new web application, that will connection to an MySql Database. (So far I only have expercience with Linq-To-Sql classes and MSSQL Servers.) My superior tells me to use the entity framework (he probably refers to Linq-To-Entity) and provide everything as a service based architecture. Unfortunatly nobody at work has experience with that framework and with a real nice server oriented architecture. (till now no customer wanted to pay for architecture that he can't see. This speficic project I'm leading will be long-term, meaning multiple years, so it would be best to design it the way, that multiple targetting plattforms like asp.net, c# wpf, ... could use it) For now, the main target plattform is ASP.net So I do have the following questions: 1) Where can I read best what's really behind service oriented architecture (but for now beginner tutorials work fine as well) and how to do it in best practise? 2) So far I can't seem a real difference between Linq-To-Sql classes and the information I've google so far on the 'entity framework'. So, whats the difference? Where do I find nice tutorials for it. 3) Is there any difference in the entity framework regarding the database server (MSSQL or MySQL). If not, does that mean that code snipperts I will stumble across will word database independent? 4) I do you Visual Studio 2010. Do I have to regard something specific?

• In threads, WaitForMultipleObjects never returns if set to INFINITE

  Let say I have three thread handles HandleList[0] = hThread1; HandleList[1] = hThread2; HandleList[2] = hThread3; /*All the above are of type HANDLE*/ Before closing the application, I want the thread to get its task done. So I want to make app wait till thread completes. So I do, WaitForMultipleObjects(3, HandleList, TRUE, INFINITE ); By this I'm able to make the thread, complete its task. But control never move to next line after the call to WaitForMultileObjects irrespective of all thread completing its task. If I use, some seconds instead of INFINITE, it comes to next line after that many secs, irrspective of whether thread completes its task or not. WaitForMultipleObjects(3, HandleList, TRUE, 10000 ); My problem here is, I'm can't go for seconds, as I may not be sure whether the threads will complete its task with the given time. To list my problem in simple words, I want all my thread to finish the task, before I close my app. How can I achieve it using WaitForMultipleObjects API?

• Deploying a WAR to tomcat only using a context descriptor

  i need to deploy a web application in WAR format to a remote tomcat6 server. The thing is that i don't want to do that the easy way, meaning not just copy/paste the WAR file to /webapps. So the second choice is to create a unique "Context Descriptor" and pointing this out to the WAR file. (Hope i got that right till here) So i have a few questions: Is the WAR file allowed to be anywhere in the file system? Meaning can i copy the WAR file anywhere in the remote file system, except /webapps or any other folder of the tomcat6 installation? Is there an easy way to test whether the deployment was successful or not? Without using any browser or anything, since i'm reaching to the remote server only via SSH and terminal. (I'm thinking ping?) Is it normal that the startup.sh/shutdown.sh don't exist? I'm not the admin of the server and don't know how the tomcat6 is installed. But i'm sure that in my local tomcat installations these files are in /bin and ready to use. I mean you can still start/restart/stop the tomcat etc., but not with the these -standard?- scripts. • How to resolve the only ImagePicker control view in landscap mode and whole application in portrait mode?

  I have tried almost all the answers during last two days provided by Google and SO but no luck :( What I want is my whole application is in portrait mode only. And it working fine in ios 6+. The only support required at now. But the problem is I need to launch UIImagePickerViewController with image source type camera in only landscap mode. What I tried till now is : (1) I try to create one category for UIImagePickerController for orientation. -(BOOL)shouldAutorotate { return NO; } -(NSUInteger)supportedInterfaceOrientations { return UIInterfaceOrientationMaskLandscape; } - (UIInterfaceOrientation)preferredInterfaceOrientationForPresentation { return UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft; } Like this. But the camera view is not proper aligned. It just follows the orientation of device with some +/- 90 angle but not what I required. Even the button of the camera shown by camera view as camera control is also follows the camera view, ie. the view is rotated to 90 anti clock vise and stays to that way. Is there any way to use the camera with proper alignment? or have to use other framework to work with it? Please help me. I stuck with it for last two days.

I tried to poll it constantly with smaller delay, let's say 10 microseconds, then it never goes in SelectMode.SelectRead. I guess it maybe somehow related on client's socket reuse? Maybe I don't shutdown client socket propertly and client(firefox) decides to use an old socket? I disconnect client socket this way: Context.Socket.Shutdown( SocketShutdown.Both ); // context is just a wrapper around socket Context.Socket.Close(); What may cause that problem?

  I have been trying to get this effect for a couple of hours now and I must admit I am failing at it. I am trying to construct a DIV that accepts a particular number of items (say 5), when the 6th item is added, the first item that was aded should be removed (first-in-first-out). The feel should have some kind of a fadeIn and fadeOut. • What is the right path for PHP includes on a Mac?

  Running Mac OS X 10.5.8, with PHP 5.2.11 Pre-installed. Using Coda 1.6.10. I'm writing PHP files, and then preview them running from file, not server. This was working fine till I tried PHP includes. These don't work as a relative path, only as an absolute from the root of the drive. Is there any way I can use statements like include_once "common/header.php"; without specifying my entire file path like so : include_once "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/neil/Desktop/Website/ColoredLists_v1.0/common/base.php"; ,where ColoredLists_v1.0 is the directory with all the website files in it. I tried solutions like prepending _SERVER[DOCUMENT_ROOT] or dirname(File) to the file paths, but that didn't work as the variables were not set. Is there any easy way to do this, or a configuration I can change so that it looks in a specific directory by default instead of looking at the drive root? Currently, echo_include_path shows .: When I include this line at the start of the script, it works: set_include_path('/Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/neil/Desktop/Website/ColoredLists_v1.0'); However, if I want to do this for all my scripts, I can't seem to make the change permanent. Even after I edited the Unix include_path in my php.ini, it doesn't seem to work.

  There was alike question in 2008, 2 years passed. Please, share your expectations about IT market and employment in the next year or two (or so far you can predict). IMHO Russia (my native country) fully met Crisis in spring, 2008. Stock markets shrank 3(!) times during half a year. Many developers were fired those days but I suppose just because business was shocked and freezed some projects. Developers expected +20% salary growth per year in 2004-2007 (Developer salary in Moscow was about 2-3K$ in early 2008). Then there was 30% (very subjective) salary cut-off in 2008 and salaries were frozen till 2009. Now things are slowly coming back to 2008. Looking in the future I expect pessimistic scenario and another crash. Our economic depends more and more on oil & gas every year. IT that serves industry will be shrinked because we can't compete to China in real production. Due to high currency board (rubble is strong compared to dollar) we can't rely on offshore programming. Our officials are concerned on innovative economic breakthrough but it's an ordinary budget money assignemtn in practice. I don't believe in innovations either because who require innovations if you have debts and tomorrow is vapor?

  Hi All, I have looked at most threads here about Doubly linked lists but still unclear about the following. I am practicing the Goodrich and Tamassia book in Java. About doubly linked lists, please correct me if I am wrong, it is different from a singly linked list in that a node could be inserted anywhere, not just after the head or after the tail using both the next and prev nodes available, while in singly linked lists, this insertion anywhere in the list is not possible ? If one wants to insert a node in a doubly linked list, then the default argument should be either the node after the to-be inserted node or node before the to-be inserted node ? But if this is so, then I don't understand how to pass the node before or after. Should we be displaying all nodes that were inserted till now and ask the user to select the node before or after which some new node is to be inserted ? My doubt is how to pass this default node. Because I assume that will require the next and prev nodes of these nodes as well. For e.g, Head<-A<-B<-C<-D<-E<-tail If Z is the new node to be inserted after say D, then how should node D be passed ? I am confused with this though it seems pretty simple to most.   Somehow, I can't get this done. This is all what I tried till now: Main: private String myState; public String getState() { return myState; } public void setState(String s) { myState = s; } Async: Main appState = ((Main)getApplicationContext()); String state = appState.getState(); Error: No enclosing instance of the type Main is accessible in scope Tried with Helper(Globals) class. public class Globals extends Application{ private String test= "1"; } Main: private Globals mGlobals; mGlobals = new Globals(); mGlobals.test = "2"; //Do Async thing Async: private Globals mGlobals; mGlobals = new Globals(); print mGlobals.test; // (result is 1, should be 2) Also something else, but don't remember good. • Random number generation in MVC applications

  What is the correct way of generating random numbers in an ASP.NET MVC application if I need exactly one number per request? According to MSDN, in order to get randomness of sufficient quality, it is necessary to generate multiple numbers using a single System.Random object, created once. Since a new instance of a controller class is created for each request in MVC, I cannot use a private field initialized in the controller's constructor for the Random object. So in what part of the MVC app should I create and store the Random object? Currently I store it in a static field of the controller class and lazily initialize it in the action method that uses it: public class HomeController : Controller { ... private static Random random; ... public ActionResult Download() { ... if (random == null) random = new Random(); ... } } Since the "random" field can be accessed by multiple instances of the controller class, is it possible for its value to become corrupted if two instances attempt to initialize it simultaneously? And one more question: I know that the lifetime of statics is the lifetime of the application, but in case of an MVC app what is it? Is it from IIS startup till IIS shutdown?

• i integer does not +1 the 1st time

  I have a gallery where it will load an image after a previous image is loaded, so every time 'i' will +1 so that it could move to the next image. This code works fine on my other files, but I dunno why it doesn't work for the current file. Normally if I trace 'i' the correct will be 0,1,2,3,4,5,6... etc adding on till the limit, but this files its 'i' repeat the 1st number twice, only it continues to add 0,0,1,2,3,4,5,6...etc The code is completely the same with the other file I'm using, but I don't know why it just doesn't work here. The code does not seems to have any problem.
