    I've got a LinqDataSource that retrieves a single record.   • ASP.net DAL DatasSet and Table Adapter not in namespace - Northwind Tutorial

    I've been attempting to walk through the "Creating a Data Access Layer" tutorial found http://www.asp.net/learn/data-access/tutorial-01-cs.aspx I create the DB connection, create the typed dataset and table adapter, specify the sql, etc. When I add the code to the presentation layer (in this case a page called AllProducts.aspx) I am unable to find the NorthwindTableAdapters.ProductsTableAdapter class. I tried to import the NorthwindTableAdapters namespace, but it is not showing up. Looking in the solution explorer Class View confirms that there is a Northwind class, but not the namespace I'm looking for. I've tried several online tutorials that all have essentially the same steps, and I'm getting the same results. Can anyone give me a push in the right direction? I'm getting error: Namespace or type specified in the Imports 'NorthwindTableAdapters' doesn't contain any public member or cannot be found. Make sure the namespace or the type is defined and contains at least one public member. I think I might need to add a reference OR they may be creating a separate class and importing it into their main project. If that's the case, the tutorials do not mention this.   • WiX major upgrade refuses to replace existing file!

    Hello! I have inherited this project with a WiX installer, and am required to make this version usefully upgrade the previous one! My problem comes in replacing the database files with new versions. No, the problem is not that they are locked, I can replace them manually, and in fact now ONE of them is replaced, while the other is not. Please, please tell me what I'm doing wrong here. I've tried several other solutions (including registry keys as KeyPath instead of CompanionFile) but nothing is quite working. The button renders perfectly, but I can't get it to hit any event handlers.   • JSF 2/Primefaces p:ajax not updating panel after onchange event is fired

    I am really stuck with this for the last 2 days and am struggling to understand how Primefaces updates UI components on the client based on their ID. I have a h:selectOneMenu with a count for the number of panels to be displayed. Each p:panel will contain a panelGrid with numerous form elements. The onchange event on the drop down is fired and I can see the count in the Managed Bean.     I'm using the new Silverlight 4 support for IDataErrorInfo. So I have a POCO object that has implemented the interface, and when a validation rule fires the Silverlight UI correctly shows the error. So that is all working fine. The POCO object looks like this: public class SomeDomainClass : IDataErrorInfo { public string SomeString { get; set; } public string Error { get { return String.Empty; } } public string this[string columnName] { get { if (columnName == "SomeString" && PolicyNumber.Contains("%")) return "SomeString cannot contain '%'. You'll ruin everything!!!"; return String.Empty; } } } However, I want to be able to detect whether or not there are any errors on the page. For example if I have a Save button and I want to disable it if there are errors, or display a message or something. What is the best way to detect if there are existing validation errors on the page? Is there a facility for this based around the IDataErrorInfo support in Silverlight? Or do I have to track it in the domain model myself?

My code works as intended I'm just trying to see if there is a manner in which I didn't have a lot of replicated code.     Hi I already have experience in developing websites using java technologies ... Now i have a task to develop another website and i have the liberty to select technology to built. I dont want to built using Java/J2ee standard technology as i want to learn new language. The specification about website i can give is that: 1) its a real estate based site. 2) so it will have a db of real estate data around million records 3) website will have more than 1000 hits /day and will have various functionality like search, add , delete,generate reports etc. So i mean UI should be good and fast. Technologies i have in mind .NEt( i have already worked on it but it licensed so may not go for it) , Groovy, Ruby on rails ,Play, GWT etc ... I am a college student and the website is again of a student(non techie guy) so i have 5-6 mnths to bring the website up I have read about them but all have adv and disadv but would like to hear from people who have used it and can tell me what they felt about the languages and problems while developing it..   • Selection Highlight in NSCollectionView

    On some occasions my head just hurts from banging it against the Cocoa wall. Today is one of those days. I have a working NSCollectionView with one minor, but critical, exception. Getting and highlighting the selected item within the collection. I've had all this working prior to Snow Leopard, but something appears to have changed and I can't quite place my finger on it, so I took my NSCollectionView right back to a basic test and followed Apple's documentation for creating an NSCollectionView here: http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/DOCUMENTATION/Cocoa/Conceptual/CollectionViews/Introduction/Introduction.html The collection view works fine following the quick start guide. However, this guide doesn't discuss selection other than "There are such features as incorporating image views, setting objects as selectable or not selectable and changing colors if they are selected". Using this as an example I went to the next step of binding the Array Controller to the NSCollectionView with the controller key selectionIndexes, thinking that this would bind any selection I make between the NSCollectionView and the array controller and thus firing off a KVO notification. I also set the NSCollectionView to be selectable in IB. There appears to be no selection delegate for NSCollectionView and unlike most Cocoa UI views, there appears to be no default selected highlight. So my problem really comes down to a related issue, but two distinct questions. How do I capture a selection of an item? How do I show a highlight of an item? NSCollectionView's programming guides seem to be few and far between and most searches via Google appear to pull up pre-Snow Leopard implementations, or use the view in a separate XIB file. For the latter (separate XIB file for the view), I don't see why this should be a pre-requisite otherwise I would have suspected that Apple would not have included the view in the same bundle as the collection view item. I know this is going to be a "can't see the wood for the trees" issue - so I'm prepared for the "doh!" moment. As usual, any and all help much appreciated.

  • WNetAddConnection2 in Windows 7 with Impersonation and no Error Code

    I'm doing some crazy impersonation stuff to get around UAC dialogs in Windows 7 so the user does not have to interact with the UI (I have the admin creds of course). I have a process running as the Administrator and elevated past UAC. The issue that I'm facing is that when I make a call to WNetAddConnection2, within this process, I am not getting a new mapped net drive. The function returns ERROR_SUCCESS but no net drive is visible. We have another method of adding network drives using 'subst' but this, again, returns successful does does not add a net drive. I have tried to use the default user (which is the Administrator because of process's security context) and I have tried using specific user credentials. I can map the drive just fine through Explorer. Of course the same functionality works fine in XP/2003. I haven't got around to testing on Vista because of issues with impersonation that are limiting my ability to spin up the process. Are there unique Windows 7 limits on this function? MSDN does not glean any that I can find. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I think I'm going a little crazy. Right now, I'm working with the following languages (I was just doing a mental inventory): C++ - our game engine Assembler - low level debugging and a few co-processor specific routines Lua - our game engine scripting language HLSL - for shaders Python - our build system and utility tools Objective C/C++ - game engine platform code for Mac and iPhone C# - A few tools developed in our overseas office ExtendScript - Photoshop exporting tools ActionScript - UI scripting VBScript - some spreadsheet related stuff PHP - some web related stuff SQL - some web and tool related stuff On top of this are the plethora of API's that often have many different ways of doing the same thing: std library, boost, .NET, wxWidgets, Cocoa, Carbon, native script libraries for Python, Lua, etc, OpenGL, Direct3d, GDI, Aqua, augh! I find myself inadvertently conflating languages and api's, not realizing what I'm doing until I get syntax errors. I feel like I can't possibly keep up with it, and I can't possibly be proficient in all of these areas. Especially outside the realm of C++ and Python, I find myself programming more by looking at manuals that from memory. Do you have a similar problem? Ideas for compartmentalizing so you're more efficient? Deciding where you want to stay proficient? Organizational tips? Good ways to remember when you switch from Lua to C++ you need to start using semi-colons again? Rants on how complicated we programmers have made things for ourselves? Any ideas welcome!

  • How can I dynamically access user control properties?

    Im trying to create a "user control menu" where links to a page's usercontrols are placed at the top of the page. This will allow me to put several usercontrols on a page and allow the user to jump to that section of the page without scrolling so much. In order to do this, I put each usercontrol in a folder (usercontrols) and gave each control a Description property (<%@ Control Language="C#" Description = "Vehicles" .... %>). My question is how can I access this description dynamically? I want to use this description as the link in my menu. So far, I have a foreach on my page that looks in the ControlCollection for a control that is of the ASP.usercontrols type. If it is I would assume that I could access its attributes and grab that description property. How can I do this? (Im also open to a better way to achieve my "user control menu", but maybe thats another question.) Should I use ((System.Web.UI.UserControl)mydynamiccontrol).Attributes.Keys?

I found that the easiest way which does not require to use Excel XML or to install Excel on server machine is to output data as a table and specify application/vnd.ms-excel type. The problem is when I do so and try to open the file in Excel Viewer, I receive the following error message: Microsoft Excel Viewer cannot open files of this type. Then nothing is opened.   • IIS: No Session being handed out, but only in production

    I've reproduced this in a simple project - details below. It's a WCF service in ASP.NET compatibility mode. What I'm seeing is that when run on the dev machine (Win7), a HTTP session id is available inside the service operation (HttpContext.Current.Session is non-null). But when deployed to the server (Win2k8R2), I get "No session". On both machines the app is configured to use the classic app pool, and the app pools themselves are configured identically as far as I can tell. The only differences I can discern between the two applications is that on the dev box, under "Handler Mappings", ISAPI-dll is disabled (not on the server), and on the server there's a spurious handler called "AboMapperCustom-7105160" (does not exist on the dev box). What should I be looking at next? Am I missing something head-slappingly simple?   • Adding click/double-click events to static group box controls

    Having realised my own reasons were way too dubious, I've now gone about this a different way. But I'm still curious... For reasons of nostalgia, familiarity and laziness, I'm coding a UI with MFC. For dubious reasons (as if those were not enough), I wanted to add a (double-)click event to a group box. Naturally, the group box contains things - in fact, it contains another static item, to which I can successfully add a (double-)click event handler. Is there any reason I cannot get an event handler to work for clicks on my group box the same way I can do that for the simple text static item? No amount of clicking on, in or near the control fires the event. Note - I've read through http://www.codeproject.com/KB/static/staticctrl_tut.aspx and tried responding to both ON_STN_... events and ON_BN_... messages, setting the notify style (BS_NOTIFY appears in the rc file)... and still I'm missing something - what is it? Is it even possible? Most of what I've googled suggests it is... but without clear answers for C++/MFC. Since first posting this question, I've found reference to a WM_NCHITTEST message, and hints that you have to create a handler for this message to override the group box default behaviour of responding with HT_TRANSPARENT... despite having its transparent property in ClassWizard set to false. Hmmm. Can anyone confirm that this is indeed the key?

  • How do you handle 'SelectedItemChanged' events in a MVVM ViewModel?

    I have some logic that depends upon two properties being set, as it executes when both properties have a value. For example: private void DoCalc() { if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(Property1) || string.IsNullOrEmpty(Property2)) return; Property3 = Property1 + " " + Property2; } That code would need to be executed every time Property1 or Property2 changed, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to do it in a stylistically acceptable manner. Here are the choices as I see them: 1) Call method from ViewModel I don't have a problem with this conceptually, as the logic is still in the ViewModel - I'm not a 'No code-behind' nazi. However, the 'trigger' logic (when either property changes) is still in the UI layer, which I don't love. The codebehind would look like this: void ComboBox_Property1_SelectedItemChanged(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { viewModel.DoCalc(); } 2) Call method from Property Setter This approach seems the most 'pure', but it also seems ugly, as if the logic is hidden. It would look like this: public string Property1 { get {return property1;} set { if (property1 != value) { property1 = value; NotifyPropertyChanged("Property1"); DoCalc(); } } } 3) Hook into the PropertyChanged event I'm now thinking this might be the right approach, but it feels weird to hook into the property changed event in the implementing viewmodel.   • 2-column; multi-accordion pane

    Alright, I'm having some issues and I believe it's a CSS one. Here is what I'm working on currently: http://www.notedls.com/demo/ Focusing on the News accordion menu. The idea here is to have a small image (50x50 with padding) and then a huge headline next to it. When the user clicks the headline, it expands to the article. If the user wants to read comments or make a comment themselves they can then click the View Comments to expand it even further. The issue I'm having (if it isn't clear) is the spacing with the image and the text. I could simply just increase the height of the ui.accordion-acc or -left to make everything fit, but that doesn't solve the issue. If you notice when you click on the first expansion of Headline 1, it will wrap View Comments underneath the image. This is something I don't want, I've tried separating these elements into additional divs and even floating, but its just not working. Essentially, I want blank space infinitely underneath the image for however long the article+comments may take the field.

If i log the rowString i see the correct value so data is good but in the UI it's the old data. I can see the cellForRowAtIndexPath beeing called so i know the reloadDatacall goes thru.   • How to speed up WPF programs?

    I love programming with and for Windows Presentation Framework. Mostly I write browser-like apps using WPF and XAML. But what really annoys me is the slowness of WPF. A simple page with only a few controls loads fast enough, but as soon as a page is a teeny weeny bit more complex, like containing a lot of data entry fields, one or two tab controls, and stuff, it gets painful. Loading of such a page can take more than one second. Seconds, indeed, especially on not so fast computers (read: the customers computers) it can take ages. Same with changing values on the page. Everything about the WPF UI is somehow sluggy. This is so mean! They give me this beautiful framework, but make it so excruciatingly slow so I'll have to apologize to our customers all the time! My Question: How do you speed up WPF? How do you profile bottlenecks? How do you deal with the slowness? Since this seems to be an universal problem with WPF, I'm looking for general advice, useful for many situations and problems.   • Ajax actionlinks straight from a DropDownList

    I've got a small linkbox on the side of my page that is rendered as a PartialView. In it I have a dropDownlist the should change the routing value of the links in the box but I'm having difficulty doing so. My current plan is to call on something similar to a Ajax.ActionLink to reload the partial view into the with a different parameter based on the value of the dropdown selection. However I'm having multiple problems with this, for example as a novice in using dropdownlists I have no idea how to call on the selected value for example. <%= Html.DropDownList("DropDownList1", new SelectList(Model, "ID", "Name"), "--Pick--", new { AutoPostBack = "true", onchange = "maybe something here" })%> I tried putting in the sys.mvc.AsyncHyperlink into the onchange attribute and that worked except I don't know how to put in the route value for it. Sys.Mvc.AsyncHyperlink.handleClick(this, new Sys.UI.DomEvent(event), { insertionMode: Sys.Mvc.InsertionMode.replace, updateTargetId: 'SmallMenu' } Is there no straight Ajax drop down list that fires events onchange? Any way this is possible? I have later in the Partial view the Ajax actionlinks but they need to have their id's updated by the value in the dropdownlist and if I could do that somehow else I would appreciate a suggestion.
