    I am fairly new to F#, but have spent the last few weeks reading reference materials. I wish to process a user-supplied input string, identifying and separating the constituent elements. For example, for this input: XYZ Hotel: 6 nights at 220EUR / night plus 17.5% tax the output should resemble something like a list of tuples: [ ("XYZ", Word); ("Hotel:", Word); ("6", Number); ("nights", Word); ("at", Operator); ("220", Number); ("EUR", CurrencyCode); ("/", Operator); ("night", Word); ("plus", Operator); ("17.5", Number); ("%", PerCent); ("tax", Word) ] Since I'm dealing with user input, it could be anything. Thus, expecting users to comply with a grammar is out of the question. I want to identify the numbers (could be integers, floats, negative...), the units of measure (optional, but could include SI or Imperial physical units, currency codes, counts such as "night/s" in my example), mathematical operators (as math symbols or as words including "at" "per", "of", "discount", etc), and all other words. I have the impression that I should use active pattern matching -- is that correct? -- but I'm not exactly sure how to start. Any pointers to appropriate reference material or similar examples would be great.

  • Android layouts within layouts, with separate classes handling their input?

    Hey all, I have created a program in Java that uses Jpanels within Jpanels. One example of this is having a side view containing buttons that change the main view when pressed. The main view also has buttons that can be used to alter itself. I am trying to re-create this on the android. I have my layout set up from an xml, with a side panel containing buttons and the main view. There is another xml that contains what I want in the main view. Now I am struggling to get this separate xml to be displayed in the main view and can’t figure out how I would get the class to handle its own input. I don’t want to paste the code into the main.xml as I want to keep things object orientated and each view needs some custom elements such as different textviews. An example of what I am trying to convert for the android is below:- //The ViewInt class has its own layout ViewInt tempView = new ViewInt(i, mFloorNo); //The viewInt class is then added to the main window. mainWindowPanel.add(tempView); This small bit of code would create a view, add it to the main view and then any input in the main window is handled by that class, but at the same time any input not in this main window is handled by another class (probably the root class). Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks. To clarify: The program has a side panel layout, containing buttons. And a main view layout that is empty. I am trying to set a .xml layout to this main view layout, and have it so that if any buttons are pressed in that main view then a class for that layout will handle it.

    I know innerHTML is supposedly evil, but I think it's the simplest way to change link text. For example: <a id="mylink" href="">click me</a> In JS you can change the text with: document.getElementById("mylink").innerHTML = new_text; And in Prototype/jQuery: $("mylink").innerHTML = new_text; works fine. Otherwise you have to replace all of the child nodes first and then add a text node. Why bother?

    I am using BGHUDAppKit for an outline view within a HUD-style (black) NSPanel. As such the text in my outline view cells is light gray or white. Unfortunately this means that when I hover to bring up a tooltip for a cell's value, it shows up as light gray text on yellow, which is illegible. How can I set the text color for the tooltip, or is there a way that I can modify the control itself (without changing its appearance) to work better with the tooltip mechanism?

And after if i click on row(anyrow), i want to rollback previous operation. i.e. replace texts with html element. and htmlElement.val()=text. Even though I have set their widths to be 100%, the select box is a few pixels smaller than the input.   • Align text with bottom as it comes in during a chat?

    I'm building a custom web chat application, and while I have the basics worked out, I've been wondering if this was possible... right now, the chat comes in at the top of the div, and when it reaches the bottom, the div starts scrolling. This works. This is great. But I was wondering if it was possible to create it more like an IRC client, where the chat comes in initially at the bottom of the div, then each new line comes in below the old ones, etc, and again, when the div is full, it starts scrolling. I've managed to get part of this working: I can get it displaying this way. But I can't find a way to scroll it; either the scroll doesn't appear (when there's no overflow on the inner, text div, despite there being an overflow on the outer, container div), or it's confined to the width of the text rather than the width of the container div. Some options I've tried: <div id="chatbox" style="overflow: auto; position: relative; width: 100%; height: 400px;"> <div id="chatmessages" style="overflow: auto; position: absolute; bottom: 0;"></div></div> This has the text appear properly at the bottom, but no scrollbar ever appears. <div id="chatbox" style="overflow: auto; position: relative; width: 100%; height: 400px;"> <div id="chatmessages" style="overflow: scroll; position: absolute; bottom: 0;"></div></div> This has the text appear properly at the bottom, and a scrollbar appears, but it's only ever as wide as the text, even if width=100%... and when the text reaches the top, the scrollbar remains gray. Basically, do I want the scrollbar on the inner or the container div, is this even possible, how do I force it to work, and am I going about this entirely wrong?

    I'm building a social networking type site that will be storing large chunks of text that's entered by users, such as blog entries and private messages. As such, these will be entered once, with minimal revisions, but many reads by multiple users over time. I'm using MySQL, by the way. My concerns are: Storing large blocks of text on the database will fill the database to capacity eventually. I read somewhere that storing user text in flat files is a security risk? (The filenames will be generated dynamically by the PHP, not by the user.) Storing them as text files may cause them to become out of sync if I ever have to reinitialize the database and restore it from backups. What are all your thoughts and advice, pros and cons?

  • How to optimize this simple function which translates input bits into words?

    I have written a function which reads an input buffer of bytes and produces an output buffer of words where every word can be either 0x0081 for each ON bit of the input buffer or 0x007F for each OFF bit. The length of the input buffer is given. Both arrays have enough physical place. I also have about 2Kbyte free RAM which I can use for lookup tables or so. Now, I found that this function is my bottleneck in a real time application. It will be called very frequently. Can you please suggest a way how to optimize this function?     Hello SO; I've been fighting with this problem all day and am just about at my wit's end. I have an XML file in which certain portions of data are stored as escaped text but are themselves well-formed XML. I want to convert the whole hierarchy in this text node to a node-set and extract the data therein. No combination of variables and functions I can think of works. The way I'd expect it to work would be: <xsl:variable name="a" select="InnerXML"> <xsl:for-each select="exsl:node-set($a)/*"> 'do something </xsl:for-each> The input element InnerXML contains text of the form <root><element a>text</element a><element b><element c/><element d>text</element d></element b></root> but that doesn't really matter. I just want to navigate the xml like a normal node-set. Where am I going wrong?
