• Change notification in CouchDB when a field is set

  Hi, I'm trying to get notifications in a CouchDB change poll as soon as pre-defined field is set or changed. I've already had a look at filters that can be used for filtering change events(db/_changes?filter=myfilter). However, I've not yet found a way to include this temporal information, because you can only get the current version of the document in this filter functions. Is there any possibility to create such a filter? If it does not work, I could export my field to a separate database and the only poll for changes in that db, but I'd prefer to keep together my data for obvious reasons. Thanks in advance!

• jQuery - How do I make the menu fadeout when the user clicks anywhere else in the document besides the menu itself?

  Hi, I have a link that functions similar to a drop down menu in that it fades in a list of links below it when clicked. Currently, the list fades back out when the link is clicked again, but I'd like for it to also fade out if the user clicks elsewhere on the page. I'm not sure how to add the $(document).click(function()... that handles this, or if this is even the right approach.   I'm dealing with a file with a linked list of lines with each node looking like this: struct TextLine{ //The actual text string text; //The line number of the document int line_num; //A pointer to the next line TextLine * next; }; and I'm writing a function that adds spaces at the beginning of the lines found in the variable text, by calling functions like linelist_ptr->text.insert(0,1,'\t'); The program compiles, but when I run it I get this error: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::out_of_range' what(): basic_string::at Aborted Any ideas?

• Is it good to use JQuery's validation plugin?

  Hi all, I am learning JQuery, and I have checked out that JQUery has got a validation plugin. http://docs.jquery.com/Plugins/Validation#Validate_forms_like_you.27ve_never_been_validating_before.21 To use it, users have to include another script file in the Head tag in HTML. I am thinking if this will cause any code collisions to the codes in the validation plugin when more and more javascript files are included. Should I use JQuery to write myself new customed functions for checking data input from users or use the JQuery data validation plugin? Please advise.

• Thread help with Android game

  I need some help dealing with three Threads in Android One thread is the main thread, the other is the GLThread, and the other is a WorkerThread I created to update the game state. The problem I have is they all need to access the same LinkedList of game objects. Both the GLThread and my WorkerThread only read from the LinkedList, so no problem there, but occasionally I have the main thread adding in another game object to the list. How can I manage this? I tried using synchronized in front of the functions involved but it really slows down the application. For some reason, just catching the errors and not rendering or updating the game state that frame, causes it to start lagging permanently. Anyone have any great ideas?

  I'm migrating from C#.NET to Python/Flask. In .NET I have MasterPage, UserControl, PartialView each has its own code behind. e.g. I can save the check login functions in Login.ascx.cs and render the Login.ascx wherever I'd like to. If logged in, it shows the welcome message, else shows the login form. But in Flask I only found {% include 'login.html' %} which include the static html file. How can I implement this design in Flask?

• mootools: $ not defined

  I've strange error i don't understand. I'm just moving my code from jQuery over to Mootools because it's much cleaner than the jQuery mess. Now when i use the $$('div.canvas') in mootools i get the correct element. When i try $(document).getElement('div.canvas') it tells me that $ is not defined. How can $$ and all helper functions like $lambda etc. be defined but not $? Has something changed there from 1.1 to 1.2 and the docs are not updated yet?

  Hi, I am trying to find out the maximum value for an integer (signed or unsigned) from a MySQL database. Is there a way to pull back this information from the database itself? Are there any built-in constants or functions I can use (either standard SQL or MySQL specific).   Hi, I have to define a 24-bit data type.I am using char[3] to represent the type. Can I typedef char[3] to type24? I tried it in a code sample. I put typedef char[3] type42; in my header file. The compiler did not complain about it. But when I defined a function void foo(type24 val) {} in my C file, it did complain. I would like to be able to define functions like type24_to_int32(type24 val) instead of type24_to_int32(char value[3]).

• Limiting what a .net plugin can access

  I have a web application that can load plugins through reflection. It currently uses Assembly.LoadFrom() and Activator.CreateInstance() to get this done. Right now plugins are loaded into the same AppDomain and have access to anything in my app and anything my app could access. What I'm looking for is a way to limit what classes and methods the plugin can access for security purposes. I want to have all of my classes and methods throw an exception when called unless they are whitelisted. I'd be whitelisting basically all the functions in an API class and a few data transfer objects. I also don't want the plugin to be able to access the filesystem or the database on it's own. I think I can do that with trust levels in a separate AppDomain though. Does anyone out there have any good ideas or resources? Is this something that could be done with Code Access Security or the new Security-Transparent Code features in .net 4?

  My application uses Lua in multithreaded environment with global mutex. It implemented like this: Thread locks mutex, Call lua_newthread Perform some initialization on coroutine Run lua_resume on coroutine Unlocks mutex lua_lock/unlock is not implemented, GC is stopped, when lua works with coroutine. My question is, can I perform steps 2 and 3 without locking, if initialisation process does not requires any global Lua structs? Can i perform all this process without locking at all, if coroutine does not requires globals too? In what case I generally can use Lua functions without locking?

I found that I can change the hostname via sethostname but couldn't find how to change IP address settings such as: IP Address DHCP Subnet Gateway DNS1 / DNS2 WINS1 / WINS2 Any advice / pointers would be great.   I am a total beginner and would like to eventually learn to develop for the iphone. I have just done a beginner's CS course where the language we learned was JavaScript. We studied basic concepts like: variables, arrays, loops (for,while,if,if..else..), properties and functions. I'm wondering if I am starting in the right/wrong place by following this book: Learn C on the Mac by Dave Mark? I have read a few chapters and am finding it a bit hard to get my head around the way that C works, for example the way that Strings are printed seems overly complicated as compared to JS. Do you think that JS was the wrong language to start off with and would I be better to go from JS straight to Objective-C rather than to C? I have tried to read up on previous threads on the merits/demerits of learning C first but haven't found any that relate JS to learning C/Obj C/ Cocoa. Any advice appreciated as I am very new to this. Thanks

  I am currently porting some Windows mobile C++ code to standard C++. So I am trying to find alternatives for windows specific functions. I have had very little luck in finding a standard C++ function that can help me replace the WSAGetLastError() windows specific function. WSAGetLastError() returns error numbers for errors that occur with sockets in windows. So I was wondering if anyone was aware of a way to replace this function in standard c++? A way to get different error numbers for different outcomes of connecting/dissconection a socket would be sufficent.

  i have a query like this: ID | name | commentsCount 1 | mysql for dummies | 33 2 | mysql beginners guide | 22 SELECT ..., commentsCount // will return 33 for first row, 22 for second one FROM mycontents WHERE name LIKE "%mysql%" also i want to know the total of comments, of all rows: SELECT ..., SUM(commentsCount) AS commentsCountAggregate // should return 55 FROM mycontents WHERE name LIKE "%mysql%" but this one obviously returns a single row with the total. now i want to merge these two queries in one single only, because my actual query is very heavy to execute (it uses boolean full text search, substring offset search, and sadly lot more), then i don't want to execute it twice is there a way to get the total of comments without making the SELECT twice? !! custom functions are welcome !! also variable usage is welcome, i never used them...

I realize this is most likely per-OS or per-architecture, but I was hoping someone might know some of the more common OSes and Arches. I could only dig one up for a few versions of windows: for windows NT,2k and XP that would be: 0x00000000 - 0x0000ffff - lowest page is protected to simplify debugging 0x00001000 - 0x7ffeffff - memory area for your application 0x7fff0000 - 0x7fffffff - protected area to keep memory-functions from damaging the following part 0x80000000 - 0xffffffff - memory where the system including drivers and so on is located Anyone know about for Linux, or BSD (or anything else, for that matter)?

• Drawing with GDI+ under IIS

  I'm running a web application under IIS that we draw graphs with that are sent to the clients. We were previously running under iis6, while migrating to 2008 ( iis7 ) we have encountered some very weird issues with the graphing. I stumbled across the msdn docs for GDI+ stating that "GDI+ functions and classes are not supported for use within a Windows service." I suspect that my issues are probably related to further isolation of services http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms533798%28VS.85%29.aspx My question is how the heck are we supposed to draw graphics? Raw GDI? OpenGL - but doesn't that still require a DC?

• Order of execution and style of coding in Python

  Hi guys. I am new to Python so please don't flame me if the question is too basic :) I have read that Python is executed from top - to - bottom. If this is the case, why do programs go like this: def func2(): def func1(): #call func2() def func() #call func1() if __name__ == '__main__': call func() So from what I have seen, the main function goes at last and the other functions are stacked on top of it. Am I wrong in saying this? If no, why isn't the main function or the function definitions written from top to bottom?

• Jquery - How to make $.post() use contentType=application/json?

  I've noticed that when using $.post() in jquery that the default contentType is application/x-www-form-urlencoded - when my asp.net mvc code needs to have contentType=application/json (See this question for why I must use application/json: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2792603/aspnet-mvc-why-is-modelstate-isvalid-false-the-x-field-is-required-when-that) How can I make $.post() send contentType=application/json? I already have a large number of $.post() functions, so I don't want to change to $.ajax() because it would take too much time If I try $.post(url, data, function(), "json") It still has contentType=application/x-www-form-urlencoded. So what exactly does the "json" param do if it does not change the contenttype to json? If I try $.ajaxSetup({ contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8" }); That works but affects every single $.get and $.post that I have and causes some to break. So is there some way that I can change the behavior of $.post() to send contentType=application/json?
