CSS: Why is my floated <span> being displayed below an <a>nchor in IE6/7 but not IE8/FF

i'm getting this weird CSS bug in ie6/7 (but not in ie8 or firefox): for some reason, my nchor and , two inline elements, which are on the same line, are being displayed on different lines. the span is floating to the right, too! heres the HTML: <div class="sidebartextbg"><a href="journey.php" style="width:50%" title="Track past, present and future milestones during your employment">Journey</a> <span class="notificationNumber">2</span>  </div> and here's the CSS: .sidebartextbg { background:url("../images/sidebartextbg.gif") repeat-x scroll 0 0 transparent; border-bottom:1px solid #A3A88B; font-size:14px; line-height:18px; margin:0 auto; padding:5px 9px; width:270px; } .notificationNumber { background:url("../images/oval_edges.gif") no-repeat scroll 0 0 transparent; color:#FFFFFF; float:right; padding:0 7px; position:relative; text-align:center; width:17px; } so: why would the floated span be displayed on the line under the nchor? thanks!

jQuery toggle pushing other elements around... bullies!!

Ok, so in the left_col of my page, i have a list UL LI that incorporates a jQuery toggle to open a small box, which is "LoginBox". <ul> <li class="members"><a href="/members/signon.asp?userType=member">Members</a></li> <li class="employers"><a href="/employers/signon.asp?userType=employer">Employers</a></li> <li class="providers"><a href="#LoginBox" class="clicker">Providers</a></li> <div class="loginbox" id="LoginBox"> <p>Medical</p> <p>Dental</p> </div> <li class="brokers"><a href="/brokers/signon.asp?userType=broker">Brokers</a></li> </ul> when the jQuery is invoked, it pushes the elements below it down. As expected. What i dont get is that i have an H3 tag below this UL LI which has a background image. The text portion of the H3 gets pushed down, but the background image seems to stay put, and the UL LI that gets pushed down just covers up the background image of the H3. why would the text move, but not the background image itself? here is the H3 style: .sectionmenu h3{ background: url(/_images/h3-triangle.gif) left center no-repeat; color: #000; font-size: 12px; font-weight: bold; padding: 4px 0px 4px 10px; margin: 0; border-bottom:1px dotted #aeaeae;; } and the login box style: .loginbox{ display:none; width:100px; height:50px; margin:0 0 0 77px; }

Silverlight: Button template with texttrimming cut off

I'm replacing the default Button template's ContentPresenter with a TextBlock, so the text can be trimmed when it's too long. Works fine in WPF. I'm trying to reuse a group of Obj-C clases between iPhone applications. The values that differ from app to app have been isolated and I'm trying to figure out the best way to apply these custom values to the classes on an app-to-app basis. Should I hold them in code? // I might have 10 customizable values for each class, that's a long signature! I would like to change the style of a text field based on the value selected in a combo box. Specifically, what I'd like to do is make the txtDepartment field gray and marked as "read only" if the option value selected in cboSource is 1. Left floated element and unordered lists (ul).

Hello, I am trying to indent the li elements of a ul. There is a left floated div with an image in it. The li element will indent only if I add left padding that is wider than the image itself. I you would like to look at a version irl, take a look. sIFR 3 randomly placing text on a single line in FF3.6

Hello, sIFR 3 is behaving strangely in Firefox. The actual sIFR flash element is set within a box that is 412px wide. In IE, Chrome, Safari, etc., the with of the Flash element is a consistent 412px; however, in Firefox, the Flash element is briefly as wide as the Body element, before correcting itself. When the page finishes loading, sometimes the Flash element remains that wide, breaking the layout (the Flash text flows underneath the sidebar to the right). Setting a width in the CSS for the .sIFR-flash element causes it to remain the proper 412px wide, but the text doesn't wrap at all--it just cuts off at the right edge, and the height of the flash element remains one line high. The markup is simple; it's just an h2 within a div. My sIFR code: var clerkenwell = { src: '/flash/sifr.swf' }; sIFR.activate(clerkenwell); sIFR.replace(clerkenwell, { selector: '.post h2', css: '.sIFR-root { color: #1899c4; text-transform:uppercase; font-size:30px; }', transparent: 'true', }); Setting forceWidth: 'true', just causes the same problem as using a CSS width on the .sIFR-flash element. Noise with multi-threaded raytracer

This is my first multi-threaded implementation, so it's probably a beginners mistake. The threads handle the rendering of every second row of pixels (so all rendering is handled within each thread). The problem persists if the threads render the upper and lower parts of the screen respectively. Both threads read from the same variables, can this cause any problems? From what I've understood only writing can cause concurrency problems... Can calling the same functions cause any concurrency problems? And again, from what I've understood this shouldn't be a problem... The only time both threads write to the same variable is when saving the calculated pixel color. This is stored in an array, but they never write to the same indices in that array. Can this cause a problem? Multi-threaded rendered image (Spam prevention stops me from posting images directly..) Ps. I use the exactly same implementation in both cases, the ONLY difference is a single vs. two threads created for the rendering.

Center text inside a circle on a canvas

I have the coordinates of the center of a circle where I need to draw some text. The circle may be larger or smaller depending on the attributes I have specified. I have set the center horizontally using mTextBrush.setTextAlign(Align.CENTER);. The problem is that I can't figure out a way to center the text vertically. Ruby 1.9: turn these 4 arrays into hash of key/value pairs

I have four arrays that are coming in from the client. Let's say that there is an array of names, birth dates, favorite color and location. The idea is I want a hash later where each name will have a hash with respective attributes: Example date coming from the client: [name0, name1, name2, name3] [loc0, loc1] [favcololor0, favcolor1] [bd0, bd1, bd2, bd3, bd4, bd5] Output I'd like to achieve: name0 => { location => loc0, favcolor => favcolor0, bd => bd0 } name1 => { location => loc1, favcolor => favcolor1, bd => bd1 } name2 => { location => nil, favcolor => nil, bd => bd2 } name3 => { location => nil, favcolor => nil, bd => bd3 } I want to have an array at the end of the day where I can iterate and work on each particular person hash. There need not be an equivalent number of values in each array. Meaning, names are required.. and I might receive 5 of them, but I only might receive 3 birth dates, 2 favorite colors and 1 location. Every missing value will result in a nil. How does one make that kind of data structure with Ruby 1.9?

How can I get sIFR to render the .sIFR-alternate correctly with FlashBlock enabled?

So I've looked this up in a few different places, and the only answer I've seen is "style the span.sIFR-alternate element". Problem is, if I apply any styles to that element that will actually have it appear & be placed correctly, it shows up alongside the sIFR text when FlashBlock isn't present (e.g. in Safari/IE) or is disabled. Here's the default styles for .sIFR-alternate: .sIFR-alternate { position: absolute; left: 0; top: 0; width: 0; height: 0; display: block; overflow: hidden; } And I'm adding these: span.sIFR-alternate { font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 24px; line-height: 14px; color: #000000; padding: 0; margin-top:12px; margin-bottom:7px; } What am I missing? Otherwise though, sIFR is working well.

Why won't this work; opencv Mat_<float>

I can't seem to get this to work. expand floating object when floating object within expands

Hey guys, quick question, I have a link when clicked drops down a list. This list is floated to the right to position it properly. This list is in another box that has been floated. My problem is that when the list expands, the box does not and the list comes out of the container box, unless the list is not floated. However floating it seems like the only way to get it to the position I want. How to avoid mouse move on Touch

I have a WPF application that is capable of being used both with a mouse and using Touch. I disable all windows "enhancements" to just have touch events : Stylus.IsPressAndHoldEnabled="False" Stylus.IsTapFeedbackEnabled="False" Stylus.IsTouchFeedbackEnabled="False" Stylus.IsFlicksEnabled="False" The result is that a click behave like I want except on two points : The small "touch" cursor (little white star) appears where clicked an when dragging. Completely useless as the user finger is already at this location no feedback is required (Except my element potentially changing color if actionable). Elements stay in the "Hover" state after the movement / Click ends. Both are the consequences of the fact that while windows transmit correctly touch events, he still move the mouse to the last main-touch-event. I don't want windows to move the mouse at all when I use touch inside my application. Is there a way to completely avoid that? Notes: Handling touch events change nothing to this. Using SetCursorPos to move the mouse away make the cursor blink and isn't really user-friendly. Disabling the touch panel to act as an input device completely disable all events (And I also prefer an application-local solution, not system wide). I don't care if the solution involve COM/PInvoke or is provided in C/C++ i'll translate. If it is necessary to patch/hook some windows dlls so be it, the software will run on a dedicated device anyway. I'm investigating the surface SDK but I doubt that it'll show any solution. As a surface is a pure-touch device there is no risk of bad interaction with the mouse.

AngularJS not validating email field in form

Background image css opera issue

Am having an issue in opera. I have a series on hyperlinnks in a ul li with backgorund images applied. The pointer cursor isnt displaying when I hover over the links. i have following html, i want to make simple tab using jquery <td style="border-color: black; border-style: solid; border-width: 1px 0 1px 1px;"> <div id="cont-1-1"> My first tab content </div> <div id="cont-2-1"> My second tab content </div> </td> <td style="width: 30px"> <div id="tab-box"> <div style="height: 121px;"><img src="/Images/Tab1.png" /></div> <div style="border-left: 1px solid Black;"><img src="/Images/Tab2.png" /></div> <div style="border-left: 1px solid Black; height: 40px;"></div> </div> </td> </td> Where Tab1.Png and Tab2.Png are my tab headers and div id :cont-1-1 and 2-1 are tab content, i don't want to use any jquery plug-in for this, just need something simple when i click on tab,,hide and show contents thanks

Striped table rows in ASP.NET MVC (without using jQuery or equivalent)

When using an ASP.NET WebForms ListView control to display data in an HTML table I use the following technique in to "stripe" the table rows: <ItemTemplate> <tr class="<%# Container.DisplayIndex % 2 == 0 ? "" : "alternate" %>">  </tr> </ItemTemplate> With the following CSS: tr.alternate { background-color: #EFF5FB; } I have just gone through the ASP.NET MVC Movie Database Application tutorial and learnt that in MVC-land table rows can be (must be?) constructed as follows: <% foreach (var item in Model) { %> <tr> <td> <%= Html.Encode(item.Title) %> </td>  </tr> <% } %> What can I add to this code to stripe the rows of my table? Note: I know that this can be done using jQuery, I want to know if it can be done another way. Edit If jQuery (or equivalent) is in your opinion the best or most appropriate post, I'd be interested in knowing why.
