    I'm revisiting data structures and algorithms to refresh my knowledge and from time to time I stumble across this problem: Often, several data structures do need to swap some elements on the underlying array. So I implement the swap() method in ADT1, ADT2 as a private non-static method. The good thing is, being a private method I don't need to check on the parameters, the bad thing is redundancy. But if I put the swap() method in a helper class as a public static method, I need to check the indices every time for validity, making the swap call very unefficient when many swaps are done. So what should I do? Neglect the performance degragation, or write small but redundant code?

I'm backending on SQL and a bit confused whether to use LINQ to SQL or trtaditional ADO.net ? what are the advantages and disadvantages of using LINQ/SQL over ADO.net? If it is ADO.net,then what is the best way to retrieve data means either calling the stored procedures or directly calling the t-sql code?     is there any Simple opensource live audio streaming Server using WCF? I need it to have simple structure: it should listen to some url format like http://example.com/service/stream?write&id=ANY_STRING and if any data comes to such address format it'll start making it avaliable by something like this http://example.com/service/stream?read&id=ANY_STRING Main thing here to be able to stream live data thru WCF service not buffering it just sharing stream. So can please any one help me with such idea? I think not only I have seen such problem with WCF alot on different sites so answer will help the WCF comunyty alot. I hope. BTW: I know some people say WCF is not prepared for live streaming over bacikHTTPbinding but hey! We all need it to, and we ask MS alot so some day they'll make it beter and we all want to be prepared for it.

Some sessions could live up to severals days.     I'm using the Zend Framework database relationships for a couple of weeks now. My first impression is pretty good, but I do have a question related to inserting related data into multiple tables. I load the executed Fetchrequest into this NSArray "entityArray" This is what I do to display my data in a UITableView for example to display title in main cell: NSManagedObject *object = (NSManagedObject *)[entityArray objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; cell.textLabel.text=[object valueForKey:@"title"]; Now I have no clue how to access my relationship image ([object valueForKey:@"image"]), because it contains more than just a string.

  • Database design: one huge table or separate tables?

    Currently I am designing a database for use in our company. We are using SQL Server 2008. The database will hold data gathered from several customers. The goal of the database is to acquire aggregate benchmark numbers over several customers. Recently, I have become worried with the fact that one table in particular will be getting very big. Each customer has approximately 20.000.000 rows of data, and there will soon be 30 customers in the database (if not more). A lot of queries will be done on this table. I am already noticing performance issues and users being temporarily locked out. My question, will we be able to handle this table in the future, or is it better to split this table up into smaller tables for each customer?

    Data in the file_name field of the generation table should be an assigned number, then _01, _02, or _03, etc. and then .ldf (example 82617_01.pdf). Somewhere, the program is putting a state name and sometimes a date/time stamp, between the assigned number and the 01, 02, etc. (82617_ALABAMA_01.pdf or 19998_MAINE_07-31-2010_11-05-59_AM.pdf or 5485325_OREGON_01.pdf for example). We would like to develop an SQL statement to find the bad file names and fix them. In theory it seems rather simple to find file_names that include a varchar2 data type and remove it, but putting the statement together is beyond me. Any help or suggestions apprecuiated. Something like ........... UPDATE GENERATION SET FILE_NAME (?) WHERE FILE_NAME (?...LIKE '%STRING%');?

    Hi, what is a good way to write unit tests with a LINQ to SQL DAL? Currently I am doing some database testing and need to create helper methods that access the database, but I don't want those methods in my main repo's. So what I have is two copies of the DAL, one in my main project and one in the Test project. Is it easier to manage these things if I create a separate project for the data layer? I'm not sure which way is a better way to approach this. If I do create a data layer project would I move all my repo's to that project as well? I'm not sure how to properly setup the layers. Thanks

    I'm making a Rails application. In the one action I need to spawn a long running process. This is not a problem. I can fork new process using spawn gem or some other. But some time after process has been spawned, user must be able to pass additional data to that process. Sure, I can fork process which will listen a UNIX socket, store socket address in the HTTP session and communicate with that process using drb protocol when user will require to pass new data to process. But I think it is not best solution and it will be a problem to deploy an application to the hosting. What is the easy way to do that?

    I have a database of start and stop times that have previously all had fairly recent data (1960s through present day) which i've been able to store as long integers. This is very simialr to unix timestamps, only with millisecond precision, so a function like java.util.Date.getTime() would be the value of the current time. This has worked well so far, but we recently got data from the 1860s, and the following code no longer works: to_timestamp('1-JAN-1970 00:00:00', 'dd-mon-yyyy hh24:mi:ss') + numtodsinterval(int_to_convert/(1000),'SECOND' ); This wraps the date and we get timestamps in the year 2038. Is there a way around this issue? All of the documentation i've looked at the documentation and timestamps should be able to handle years all the way back to the -4000 (BC), so i'm suspecting an issue with the numtodsinterval. Any ideas suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
